I know this is really, really old. I was probably about 5 years old, but I remember this playing on the radio and my father weeping because his father had just died.
Oh, Sabreen, this is from the way back machine. I was about ten years old when this song came out, but I remember it so well–especially since it was three of us girls and Mom after my father died. In those days, I could not hear this song on the radio without crying.
There is not a day that goes by that I don’t read Smartypants…and this is why.

Thanks for this link. It is informative. I also re-read the page 6 of the Vanity Fair article. One thing I appreciated about the info, is that the president does not watch cable tv…..so all the time these people think they are giving HIM advice…..it’s falling on deaf ears. He makes his decisions with input, and lots of it, but he does not dance to any one’s tune. Maureen Dowd, certainly has no influence…….contrary to her inflated ego.
I think these two articles help explain why he remains such an enigma to the bloviators. They will never understand him, therefore they will not accept him. He operates totally opposite of them. He’d rather read a book than go to a cocktail party…..imagine!!! After reading the summaries of a couple of his days, I thought how could he even have time for that social circuit…..he’s working, or spending time with his family, or resting in his own productive way. Air Force One seems to be an escape hatch for him, and give him some down time.

I have shared a number of stories about our church. Well, today I am super, duper proud to be a part of this community of faith. At the campus we attend, we had a baptism this morning. Baptized a two month old baby boy—-so sweet and cute……..THEN, baptized 5 children from toddler to junior high age……white, AA and bi-racial. The parents: TWO DADS!!!!! How awesome is that on Father’s Day. The congregation stood and applauded and applauded and applauded!!!!!!!
We truly try to live everyday by our missions statement: LOVING PEOPLE into a relationship with Jesus Christ to change the world. That means ALL people, of course. As PO has said so many times: It shouldn’t matter where you are from, what your name is, what the color of your skin is, how much education you have or who you love, every person deserves the same opportunities to be happy, successful, achieve his/her dreams, etc.
So happy you are able to attend a church and be a part of a community that is open to all.
Amen. Keep in mind this is the Bible Belt and in a very red area of east TN.

You do. Well let me tell Bill and Hillary something, we blacks will not stand for anyone who disrespect POTUS or FLOTUS. I think they Bill and Hillary better watch their steps.
In many ways, they are delusional. They think winning a primary in a red state means that red state will actually vote for them over a Republican. Hillary may win a WV or KY primary against PBO with their barely racist campaign but they ain’t winning WV or KY unless they really are completely delusional and think it’s 25 years ago.
Let me say, as a white, Jewish Northern girl one of the things that took Hillary out of the running for me entirely was their racist campaign against PBO. He was my choice anyway in 2008, and I thought the Clintons would have the grace to clear the field for new people and not create a dynasty. (Ah, the days when I still thought there was an ounce of class in the Clintons).
I remember a Republican strategist saying early on in 2008 that they didn’t know how to run against PBO. I will never, ever forget the Clintons for opening the door to the massive disrespect and belittling of PBO – they were the ones who made the PBO Derangement Syndrome possible. They should hang their heads in shame instead of parading Hillary for a Presidential run.
That being said, anniebella, if she’s the nominee (and I think she will be) we CANNOT allow a Republican to undo all the good that PBO has put in motion. We not only need to hold our noses and vote for Hillary, we need to get others to vote for her as well. PBO’s legacy is at stake and the entire future of our country.
But I ain’t gonna like doing it.
I’m stunned that @zbig posted this tweet, after he absolutely TRASHED our President last week on Morning Joe. (Don’t remember which day, will not post here because it was enough to make me yell at the television.)
Hope he continues in this vein rather than attacking our President while so much is happening at ONCE:

Is it possible to talk about the inequities in our justice system without mentioning race?
I guess it is if you’re two white guys.
I post this for two reasons. The first is that it is one of the most blatant examples of white privilege I’ve ever seen. Even a blue dog like former Senator Jim Webb made the racial inequities of our current criminal justice system the center piece of his attempts at reform. And if you’re going to talk about our history, how about discussing the decades when – for all practical purposes – there actually was no justice system for African American…lynching via mob violence was adequate.
My second reason is that this is the backdrop from which many of us are viewing Glenn Greenwald’s reporting these days. Its not just that he’s blind to his own white privilege, he regularly ignores whole parts of a story in order to bend it to the agenda he wants to promote. Some of us have been watching him do that for years now. Little by little others are beginning to catch on.
