Wow, UT. Not sure I’ve heard Darius Rucker and his “I Got Nothin'” before … but I love it. Here are a few of the lyrics, if you don’t mind, because that’s the important part of any song to me, and haven’t most of us been there, on one side of the door or the other!
It’s my third cup of coffee
Fifth time I’ve said I’m sorry
The sun slowly peaking through the glass
Says we been up all night
We both know where this is going
It’s been a long time coming
Is it really over, is this really goodbye
Maybe I should say something
Maybe you’d change your mind
Maybe, maybe buy a little more time
But I got nothin’
No magic words
To stop your leavin’
To end this hurt
I’m just blank
I’m just staring into space
Praying please, please let me think of something
Cause I got nothin’
I just realized who Darius Rucker is … lead singer and rhythm guitarist of Hootie & the Blowfish. Was on a road trip with my son last week, and Darius was being interviewed on NPR, I think, and my son pointed out his past connections. It was a great interview! Just didn’t connect the name tonight. Think he said the band might do a reunion gig, but no real plans for that.
Off to send my son a link to this great song. Thx again.
Got here eventually – I’m usually a couple of posts behind – sigh – it was another good discussion showing how our prejudices impact the next generation. Also explains well why issues like racism linger on for so long.
Our school, run in the name of our Late Father, won the second place in an international competition on robotics and won the first place on Indian level.
I beg to differ with LP, I think you are a master at using humor to disguise your smarts and your incredible discipline in raising those smart children. From some of your tweets, I sense that you really don’t suffer fools easily. Any way, Congrats on you school’s impressive achievement! So glad that your fathers name and memory are being honored.
Yet ANOTHER reason they wanted Holder gone and out of the way! THIS HAPPENED ON BUSH”S WATCH…..Holder corrected and this administration is getting the blame? Is that what I’m reading, UT?
That’s exactly the way I read and understood these articles that go way back at the beginning of President Obama’s presidency. This is so similar to what happened to the so called “Fast and Furious.”
Yes indeed, Lovelyplains! The condition metastasized and needs a new name. I vote for Medianesia! The U.S. media really never bother to remember what took place if what took place is more than a week old. The U.S. media are wholly invested in instant sensational gratification.
They’re also invested in the Republican slant on talking points, as we all know, Nath. Holder has been one of the most effective AG’s in history and the GOP finds that intolerable. The media has been doing all it can to help the R’s push Holder away. Thank God he has the full support of PBO and he isn’t going anywhere.
Thanks so much for pointing THIS out to us, UT. Kudos to Bob Cesca – if I’m not mistaken, he’s been doing the best job of all on correcting the details of this whole matter.
And, finally, take a bow, a couple of bows, President Obama and AG Holder!
Someone has used Mr Snowden for their own agenda & it would be nice to find out who that might be. GG (I think) had a somewhat different agenda but was very happy to carry “the news”. I also think GG was surprised when Snowden outed himself – that was something the former didn’t want to happen – much better that the story be about GG.
“Someone has used Mr Snowden for their own agenda….”
99ts, I think you are on to something than needs a thorough investigation. There is one thing though that bothers me about Glenn Greenwald! If Greenwald was “surprised when Snowden outed himself…”, what was Glenn Greenwald doing in Hong Kong.? I noticed he did an interview with Lawrence O, from Hong Kong, the day after Snowden outed himself.
I’ve no doubt he was visiting with Snowden – trying to stop the latter from outing himself I would think – but just surmising. Snowden seems such the fall guy – from all I have read – he doesn’t seem to have the fire of the great reformer/whistleblower/whatever.
99ts, in a discussion on an earlier thread, the thought was that either a US plutocrat funded and set up Snowden with the intention of undermining PBO, or, Snowden is being funded by a foreign power. There was too much money and too much cunning planning for all of this to be carried out by Snowden and I think GG was more of a dupe than an organizer. Bob thought that Snowden’s rush to China tipped the scale in that direction. In any case, the twit Snowden did not do this on his own.
Thanks Jackie – twit seems to fit the description – how to ruin your life – Guess I’m giving GG too much credit – although I thought the Hong Kong might be his idea. Very strange. I probably like the plutocrat option – there would be some in the US who still think HK is British.
Thank you, UT, for yet again providing some fine tunes.
Zero doubt that President Obama & AG Holder checked numerous Bush/Cheney abuses as noted by Bob Cesca, above. Zero doubt that’s why the #MIC #NEOCON plutocrats have their minions constantly on the attack. Zero doubt we will never allow them to prevail.
And, as for the failed President Clinton, a bit of truly empathetic advice …
Enough said……
That’s All Folks!
Thank you, UT.
If MSM would do their job, we would know of this and there would be no so-called “scandals”.
This is pissing me off right into 2014. We must keep on pushing even harder than 2008 to make sure the clowns get out and stay out!
Every scandal – a half life of 5 days – the GOP and the media keep trying. I notice they are now critical of ANYTHING to do with Syria. 2 days ago they were screaming for intervention. Best way for PBO to keep the US out of war would be to suggest the opposite.
And if every scandal mania they’ve tried to manufacture fails, there is always the scandal of the cost of the President and his family’s trip to Africa. The way I see this, this is the media payback because they wanted Romney to be the next president and the majority of American voters said NO to them and re-elected President Obama. Instead of acting like grown ups by realizing that you can’t always have everything you want, the media are acting like spoiled children who throw tantrums because they don’t instantly get every thing they want.
Hi Nath – it’s surely the illegitimacy of a black guy in the the white house – who doesn’t kowtow to the media and the GOP. I don’t think the media were much endowed of Romney – it was “anyone but Obama”. The media, like the GOP are 95% white – they try to make believe they are “liberal” and for the underling – but no – the majority are for the white guys. I must note that there are some great people in the media who recognize the brilliance of PBO but they are largely ignored.
The media worked hard to help the GOP win in 2010 – only reason Fox has rehired Palin is to GOTV of all the RWNJs in 2014.
Just watched an amazing segment on the spectacular HBO series Vice—–re. Dennis Rodman (our ambassador to N.Korea) and the Harlem Globetrotters visit N.Korea——weird, weird, weird——everything tightly controlled, staged—–but some human moments too—–just an unbelievable, never before seen look there—–a must see.
Vice is pretty awesome……..used to see their reporting on the internet before HBO picked them up….If you like that style of journalism Dotster, I suggest you try out RetroReport…..has good stuff.
I finally caught up with Frank Schaffer on Rev. Al’s show tonight … wish I also had a written transcript of how Frank explained “how it is” relating to the fringe right and how they “use” religion … should be required viewing/reading! In case you didn’t hear what Frank had to say:
ranians are waiting for the results from Friday’s presidential election, with early counts showing a clear lead for the reformist-linked candidate.
Hassan Rouhani has spoken about the need to re-engage with the West and has promised to free political prisoners.
Mr Rouhani had garnered about 45% of the votes after after almost two million ballots had been counted,
…
Although all six candidates are seen as conservatives, analysts say Mr Rouhani has been reaching out to reformists in recent days.
The surge of support for him came after Mohammad Reza Aref, the only reformist candidate in the race, announced on Tuesday that he was withdrawing on the advice of pro-reform ex-President Mohammad Khatami.
Mr Rouhani now has the endorsement of two ex-presidents – Mr Khatami and Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani – who was disqualified from the race by the powerful Guardian Council.
However, Mr Rouhani faces a tough challenge from hardline candidates, including top nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili and Tehran’s mayor Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf.
The remaining candidates are seen as conservatives close to Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Khamenei.
Just watched the vid “Count on Me”. This man who is our President, who would be successful no matter what road he chose to go down, he chose the road to put the country back on track, to save us from all those that were determined to destroy us, inside and outside of the country. He endures much ugliness, hate, divisiveness and still keeps on going. But to see so many look on him with awe, love, respect, they mirror my feelings. If only, if only we could have him at the helm for more than two terms.
Is it just because we love him so much that we can see the good and the extraordinary? I can’t understand the criticism that he is aloof and distant. I have never seen that in him. He is the most loving caring man I have ever seen in this world position, a role in which he could be so different. That he has opened the White house to so many ordinary folk and welcomed them lovingly. Never saw that with any other president.
My god CNN international, just now, is reporting only 10% of the vote counted……I thought their international division was worth a damn? (For what it’s worth they say 70% turnout) either way……puts us to shame.
That’s the $64,000 question:) The people of Iran do not like these dictators. They are smart and forward thinking….but the mullahs control. Please let them have good news….
Rest well everyone … or Good Morning to TODers arising …. in any case, Rouhani’s landslide is reason for much HOPE & undoubtedly has been inspired by the ANTI-NEOCONSTER Presidency of Barack Hussein Obama.
Wow! That’s an impressive win. The problem, of course, is that ultimate power in Iran still resides with Ayatollahs, and especially the “spiritual leader.”
Hassan Rouhani, 64, is the only cleric contesting the Iranian presidential election.
He says he wants to steer the country towards moderation and has the backing of the reformists led by former President Mohammad Khatami who are urging their supporters to vote for him.
…
Mr Rouhani is said to be fluent in English, German, French, Russian and Arabic, and has a law doctorate from Glasgow Caledonian University.
…
He has also vowed to restore diplomatic ties with Iran’s old enemy, the United States, which cut relations with Iran in the aftermath of the 1979 seizure of the US embassy in Tehran by Islamist students.
Mr Rouhani has been urging Iranians to vote, saying that the hardliners “don’t want you to vote, they want to win the ballot unchallenged”.
Morning PrettyFoot58! Morning TODobots!
It’s Saturday morning and PF58 promised me whole wheat raisin nut muffins and fresh fruit (from the vine/branches?) for breakfast, so I figured I’d best come in early-ish before you guys gobble it all up. Okay PF58, /patting stomach/ I’ve washed my hands and I’m all ready to be served. Thank you so much for your effort and ‘service’. 😀
Officials at the election headquarters said that with more than 16,716,937 votes counted so far – 16,166,392 of them valid:
Hassan Rouhani has 8,439,530 (50.5%)
Mr Qalibaf is in second place with 2,560,383
Mohsen Rezai lies third with 2,101,330, followed by Saeed Jalili on 1,890,462.
State TV channels said the winning candidate needed more than 50% of all ballots cast, including invalid ones, Reuters news agency reported.
…
Reporter Mohsen Asgari
In a grocery shop not far from the office, people seemed happy. I joined the shopkeeper and a few of his customers eagerly watching the main news bulletin on state TV.
Hassan Rouhani, a cleric backed by moderate and reformist figures, has taken an outright lead, leaving his main rival, Mr Qalibaf – the current Tehran mayor – a long way behind.
Mr Rouhani has been the supreme leader’s representative in various posts over the last 30 years.
The cleric, a moderate conservative, could line up all moderate and reformist figures plus many moderate conservatives and forge unity among them.
If he becomes Iran’s new president, the country could witness an age of moderation in the next four years.
I am sure the neocons, mcangry and his toadies will not like this outcome even a bit and will make the usual rabid noises abetted by the american emmessem. But this guy seems to be more level headed than the previous nutter. So, fingers crossed.
Hi Amk, TY for keeping us (me) informed in a calm way. I don’t usually follow (except for seeing the possible screamers on twitter) so you and other TOD reporters updating us really help.
You are a CRUEL man!!!!!! I’ll have you know, I think I backed up 😳 I use that Time Machine thingie, but whether it was working or not…..
So, am now trying to transfer everything to another hard drive before the current one dies completely …. but, the grinding noises are rather scary, and it’s taking 30 minutes for even one thing to transfer.
Let’s just say, my promise to stop using obscene language has faltered a little since yesterday.
Will do, have spoken to a bunch I trust and they’ll sort it out for me. Checked my back-up drive thingie and most of my stuff is there, not sure if the last Time Machine back-up got everything so trying to do it manually now. This is such fun! 😥
Crossing my fingers for/with you, CC! Hang in there!
This now confirms that I better go buy the backup thingy which I thought of doing last week when my laptop objected to *my* fix-it efforts. And I don’t have a 1/8 of what you would have. As I said, fingers, and toes, crossed in support.
I can sympathize with your ordeal. I went through the same thing two years ago. My computer died and I had to go through an expensive process to recover my data. That costly lesson taught me to be more vigilant in backing up my files. Hearing situations such as yours reinforces that lesson.
Dear Chips, in addition to amk’s wise suggestion of taking it to a professional data recovery company, please consider the very inexpensive and exceptionally easy to use Backblaze backup service. Highly worthwile. http://www.backblaze.com/
Officials at the election headquarters said that with more than 23,014,873 votes counted – 22,247,364 of them valid:
Hassan Rouhani has 11,754,013 (51.07%)
Mr Qalibaf is in second place with 3,494,938
Mohsen Rezai lies third with 2,723,202 followed by Saeed Jalili on 2,593,169.
I had been entertaining some out of town guests and had just come across this story. What an extraordinary young man and good for the Spurs for not cowtowing to haters.
This is 2 weekends in a row that Steve Kornhacky is saying that the obama Coslition will not show up in 2014.
That’s what he is positing.
Coincidence?
God damn MSNBC works for the other side now.
That is the aim of all the “scandals” – none lasts more than a week – the GOTV can explain that they have NOTHING with which to attack the President. Lots of folks are noticing MSNBC has had a fast slide right – hence the ratings. They may not exist in 1914
Although the “scandals” have proven to be NOT, the continuous introduction of new scandals and constantly saying that the Obama administration is dealing with “yet another scandal” tries to give the impression of a corrupt administration. Most people are probably rolling their eyes 🙄 and saying those TPGOPers and MSM newstainers are at it again.
When a car crashed into 14-year-old Brianna Boel as she was crossing a busy Louisville intersection on Wednesday, she fractured her skull, broke one of her wrists and snapped two bones in one of her legs.
At first, John Boel was at a loss as he attempted to comfort his daughter prior to her surgery to repair her mangled wrist and leg. Then the WAVE 3 anchor asked Brianna to remember the courage Louisville guard Kevin Ware showed after he suffered a similarly gruesome broken leg… “She perked right up, that all clicked, and she immediately seemed more calm about what lied ahead.”
If the conversation about Ware brought a smile to Brianna’s face, imagine how much more inspired she became when he showed up in her room at Kosair Children’s Hospital that evening… A friend of John’s saw his Facebook post about Brianna drawing strength from Ware’s story and relayed the story to Ware via social media. Ware contacted the WAVE 3 newsroom soon afterward and asked John’s permission to come visit with Brianna at the hospital.
Before Ware left, he signed Brianna’s cast. The message was perfect: “Pinky Promise. You will be fine.”
YES. This was a special briefing set up by Feinstein so they could informed since they’ve been denying they know anything. So what do the majority of them do? They leave town. It’s an absolute dereliction of duty.
Steve Kornacki never said the Obama coalition will not show up in 2014. I despise these blanket comments that don’t provide explanation and just seek to create hair on fire responses.
Kornacki asked why is it that more young people, women, and minorities come out for Democrats in presidential elections but not in midterm elections. He asked the panel what can be done to make sure those voters come out in 2014 so that Democrats could stop the Republican nonsense happening in the House and Senate.
He and his panel talked about organizing, going into different districts, messaging, and making sure they appeal to the groups who don’t turn out in midterms. It was constructive.
I have my problems with Kornacki sometimes but lets not ascribe things he didn’t say to him.
I don’t understand the logic behind the blanket 50.1% vote or run-off. When you are beating the next guy by double digit margins, why go through all the pain and expense of a run-off ? If the margin between the top two is, say 1%, it makes some sense.
Our President give the best White House performances.
Congrats on 1st
Thank you, proud.
Indeed. Congrats on being first.
Yaaayyy back on night duty and looking forward to enjoying the night stuff again.
Enjoy away! 😀

Great innovative students and dedicated teachers did this.
Congrats AMK…..too bad the smarts of the family skipped a generation, and went to your daughter……leaving us w/ you?
Heh, you can’t have all. You got only me. Deal with it.

Thanks nath. Our dad was a dedicated and popular engineering college professor. He too would be proud of our students and teachers.
I find it slightly mind boggling – envisaging a battlefield of robots
Congrats AMK!
What’s Indian level? You won 1st place for India?
Thanks, gb. Yes, we won the 1st place for India and the 2nd place globally.
AWESOME!!!

WOW, what an astonishing legacy!! Congrats, amk.

… must rest ….
Steve Weinstein is nailing it.
Clearly the GOP is still living in the Dark Ages.

Thanks for the updates. If it stands, this is huge!! Went to bed hoping early reports would remain ok.
Good morning everyone!! off to work, hope you all have a spectacular day! And you, President Obama, I just love you so!
Good morning Layla. Have a great day!
Good morning. Lots to do today but I’ll be lurking/scrolling through off and on. Hope everyone has a wonderful and blessed day!!!

I don’t usually follow (except for seeing the possible screamers on twitter) so you and other TOD reporters updating us really help.
interesting that invalid votes are included – makes the task a little harder.
wow that’s really hopeful news for the people of Iran. Cue RWNJ Neocon angst in 3, 2, 1….
Moooooorning everyone!
The bad news: My hard drive has 95% died. Not my personal one, the one on my desktop.
The good news: My laptop is kinda working today, so R&S will be up in an hour-ish.
See ya then!
Didn’t back-up, didja?
You are a CRUEL man!!!!!! I’ll have you know, I think I backed up 😳 I use that Time Machine thingie, but whether it was working or not…..
So, am now trying to transfer everything to another hard drive before the current one dies completely …. but, the grinding noises are rather scary, and it’s taking 30 minutes for even one thing to transfer.
Let’s just say, my promise to stop using obscene language has faltered a little since yesterday.
I think, therefore I am thingy doesn’t work with ‘puters.
Get it to a professional data recovery company and consider the euro 50/100/200 well spent on a life changing lesson.
OH, my heart goes out to you, Chips!! What a nightmare. I hope your tech friends can help get everything restored soon.
{{{{reaching for my G-drive and clicking on Time Machine}}}}
Dear Chips, in addition to amk’s wise suggestion of taking it to a professional data recovery company, please consider the very inexpensive and exceptionally easy to use Backblaze backup service. Highly worthwile. http://www.backblaze.com/

He is running away with it.
Good Morning everyone! Thanks for the awesomne musical post UT.
Facebook’s General Counsel posted this letter last night:
Good Saturday Morning TOD!
Please show this wonderfully poised and talented young man some love on twitter.
Wow! What a great perspective this young man has. Wish there were many more like him.
POTUS supports him, too!
His viewership is probably less than that of Chris Hayes.
Some positive news…

“Kevin Ware inspires 14-year-old car accident victim with surprise hospital visit”
http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaab-the-dagger/kevin-ware-inspires-14-old-car-accident-victim-175102554.html
—–
GM, SW! I’ll take the positive news, TY. 😀
Good Morning VC! Hope your weekend is off to a good start. 🙂
That’s why they’re always yelling that they have no knowledge of things they should know.
YES. This was a special briefing set up by Feinstein so they could informed since they’ve been denying they know anything. So what do the majority of them do? They leave town. It’s an absolute dereliction of duty.
And of course the crackerjack media will not call them out on that.
NO, of course not! Makes my blood boil.
Seriously Meta? Ack! What irresponsible hacks!
Thanks UT – I didn’t see it – sounds very positive from what you say
I don’t understand the logic behind the blanket 50.1% vote or run-off. When you are beating the next guy by double digit margins, why go through all the pain and expense of a run-off ? If the margin between the top two is, say 1%, it makes some sense.
At last:
