    OFA Update

    Greeting TOD family

I wanted to let you know what our local OFA will be doing today…

We are meeting at 4 in Old courthouse Square to hold up signs about background checks. e also have 4 signs with pictures of the Newtown victims and words of Thanks for Cong. Mike Thompson, cong. Jared Huffman, Senators Feinstein and Boxer. We hope to have about 20 folks. I will post pictures tomorrow.

Amid all the noise, hair on fire, and distraction, we are working on immigration, climate change, and gun violence legislation. Remember what we did in 2012, we stayed calm, put out heads down, and WORKED.

Please visit this website and find an event near you. If you don’t have an OFA team near you, write to me and I can send your information to an OFA team leader near you.

    Forward…

Thanks. In addition to this fight happening nationally and in Texas, we’re also fighting to make sure the Texas legislature doesn’t close down all but five women’s clinic and make back alley abortions a thing of the present and future.

It seems like we take two steps forward and neanderthal congress members takes us 10, 000 steps backwards but the fight goes on!

          We’ll see.

thank you. Issa is so outrageously gross, Bob, I can hardly speakof/look at him.

President Barack Obama says being a father is the best job he’s got.
Obama says a Father’s Day luncheon at the White House on Friday was a great way for all the dads to celebrate the coming occasion and
remember how lucky they are. Obama has two daughters, 14-year-old Malia and 12-year-old Sasha.
Fathers and their kids along with students and leaders from the Becoming a Man program at Chicago’s Hyde Park Academy were among those treated to burgers, fries and lemonade in the State Dining Room. Obama spoke at the school in February.
His chief of staff, several economic advisers and his legislative affairs director sat with guests during the lunch.
Father’s Day is Sunday. Obama leaves that night on a three-day trip to Northern Ireland and Germany.

Japa, Snowden isn’t smart enough for this kind of thinking. There’s something/someone with lots of money behind him. This whole incident would rise to a different level if he could be proven to be paid by a foreign government for his information. In any case, I think Snowden is a tool in a larger game.

I think you’re on to something.

@Lawrence asked if there was any high school in the country that you could drop out of and still get a Top Secret security clearance.

Snowden’s formative years were spent a stone’s throw from NSA HQ in Maryland; wonder who he knew back then and still keeps in touch with now?

    http://www.advocate.com/politics/transgender/2013/06/14/social-security-removes-surgical-requirement-gender-marker-change

The Social Security Administration today announced a revision to its policy around changing one’s gender marker on a social security card, in a move hailed by transgender advocacy groups as a victory.

The SSA removed its requirement that transgender people wanting to amend their gender on a social security card provide proof of gender reassignment surgery, opting instead for more inclusive language that simply mandates a transgender person provide a passport or birth certificate reflecting their accurate gender, or a certification from a physician confirming that the individual has had appropriate clinical treatment for gender transition. The SSA’s revision brings its policy in line with changes made in the past three years by the U.S. State Department and Veterans Health Administration.

“Most people may not see this as a big deal, but transgender people know that this seemingly small technical change will protect their privacy and give them more control over their own lives” said Mara Keisling, executive director of the National Center for Transgender Equality, in a statement heralding the announcement.

JER, Tom Corbett is in a death spiral. He’s getting to the point where he has alienated so many groups within the state that you have to search with a candle to find anyone who can stand him. He’s also dumb as a doorpost and probably thinks that alienating all Latinos in the state would make him popular with his two or three remaining supporters. This week our state treasurer, Ron McCord, stepped into the ring to challenge Corbett. He’s a genuine progressive, well-spoken, charismatic and rich. Fingers crossed.

Thanks 57 – I was just about to post this 🙂 Excellent article from a GENUINE civil libertarian…not the fake ones who only become “concerned” about issues when they can use them to go after our President and his administration.

Hey Chris & Rachel – please read this article before spewing the stuff that you swallowed from GG’s toilet bowl..

    • 60 jackiegrumbacher
      June 14, 2013 at 3:17 pm

Gee, 57, didn’t you know that ‘sane’ voices were not allowed in this hysterical NSA debate. Glen Greenwald is the only one in the country with the appropriate purity of mind to call the shots on what is an abuse of privacy or not–as his Greek chorus of Hayes and Maddow cheer him on.

      • 61 57andfemale
        June 14, 2013 at 3:33 pm

I didn’t even know Eichenwald was a self-described civil libertarian because he actually did research and stuff and doesn’t use libertarian as an excuse to hate PBO. In fact, I can’t think of many tweets where he hasn’t been supportive of PBO. Gee, that’s probably because he knows that PBO is concerned with civil liberties and stuff and he’s actually researched stuff and reported it honestly. How refreshing.

This is a great article (read the preceding article that is linked as well).

GG is a complete sham. You don’t ‘spur debate’ and then resort to nothing but insult and blocking if people don’t agree with you. He is a complete sham and The Guardian should be deeply ashamed for the association with him and their immature gloating about this story.

UT, the president and first lady keep on supporting young girls and empowering women, while the US House and state legislatures demean women as incapable of assuming responsibility for their own health care. There is a backlash building in this country and its fury is going to make these legislatures rue the day they launched this crusade against women.

Bob, what’s your guess about who’s the money behind Snowden? I don’t think there’s a chance in the world this addle-pated twit acted alone. Some power–foreign or domestic–is pulling the strings. All the hysteria mongers are walk-on players, I think. If they go down in flames, they’re just collateral damage.

      • 76 japa21
        June 14, 2013 at 3:35 pm

I agree and I think it is foreign. As my earlier tweet indicates, I think he chose Greenwald knowing he would run with things without verifying anything, giving him an excuse to skip town with some pretty damaging to our security info. He played Greenwald for a fool, which, when you think about it, is pretty easy to do.

      • 77 Bobfr (aka Our4thEstate)
        June 14, 2013 at 4:16 pm

No question he’s on someone’s payroll and whatever Booz Allen was paying him was probably pocket change compared to what he probably was & is collecting. If the intent was to harm President Obama then we can all imagine a host of plutocrats who’d pay the bills. But, given his past history of infatuation with China & North Korea, I’d have one or both of them at the top of the list.

        • June 14, 2013 at 5:12 pm

Wouldn’t be surprised if he had help here too. I mean, who’s allowed to get the keys to the kingdom after only 3 months? In most jobs three months is probationary, which means they watch you closely to see if you would fit in and follow the rules. Even after 4 months, it usually takes a year or so before they relax around you. If that’s true in a regular business, then what about the NSA, an NSA that has like a lot of federal agencies a host of long-time employees with greater responsibility?

  34. 79 hopefruit2
    June 14, 2013 at 3:13 pm

Okay, I’m probably getting into tin foil territory, but I find the timing of a few things rather curious…thus I hereby speculate:

This whole thing with GG, Snowden and Chris Hayes being promoted to prime time happened within weeks & months of each other. Hayes has been the main cheerleader on MSNBC for this Greenwild-snowjob SCAM-dal. Hayes is becoming just as unhinged as GG – as the story is falling apart, almost as if he’s personally invested in this story.

    Hmmm…..

Homemade explosives found after NY apartment blast: AP is reporting.

SPRINGWATER, N.Y. — A New York man with a stockpile of homemade bombs was apparently drying explosive material in his oven when it exploded, leading to the evacuation of several nearby homes and his arrest, sheriff’s investigators said Friday.

No injuries were reported in the Thursday night explosion, which heavily damaged the oven.

Crews responding to the blast found 30 to 40 pipe bombs and other explosive devices and firearms inside the apartment in the rural hamlet of Springwater, south of Rochester, authorities said. Crews continued to remove items into Friday.
