I don’t know the future – but I am very worried about this news (a moral guide for a significant portion of my life)

      • June 8, 2013 at 10:52 pm

YES…I feel you on this…when he came to America after his release from prison I was in the stadium cheering and screaming….what a longggggg struggle he waged against Apartheid…and how long it took the US to become part of that struggle…….Mandella and King….and now PBO…have had tremendous influences on me ….

GCL, we just have to pray for his recovery. At the same time, we should be thankful that this great man walked the earth! His courage and his moral example will live forever! I’ve said this before, but I will say it again, three of the most important events in my life that I thought I will not live long enough to see were: the release of Nelson Mandela from prison; the end of Apartheid and the election of Nelson Mandela as the first African President of South Africa; and, the election of Barack Obama as President of the United States. For me, this is what “HOPE” is all about. Hope is never about instant gratification. Rather, it requires dogged determination to push on even when everything looks bleak and hopeless.

Bless you HZ, and thank you for your kind words! I am definitely praying for the quick recovery of Nelson Mandela. For me, he exemplify what leadership and humanity is all about. Here is a man who spent 26 years in prison for the crime of wanting freedom for his people, yet in all those years of brutal confinement, he never, ever, lost hope! Nor did he ever abandon his search for common humanity and practical solutions to complex political problems. He is, as you say a”beautiful soul.” By the way, so is Bishop Desmond Tutu.

Nath, it is so beautiful that we have these two ‘beautiful souls’ in our journey through this land with both of them making their marks of peace, sweetness of spirits, and a true humility that we all can take a drink from their cups of Hope and Courage. HZ

Dir. of National Intelligence James Clapper Condemns “Rush to Publish,” “Reckless Disclosures”

Irresponsible click-bait journalism driven by egomaniacs

    By Charles Johnson

    —————————————–

Director of National Intelligence James Clapper had some very strong words today on the subject of those leaks published by the Washington Post and the Guardian’s Glenn Greenwald:

    —————————————–

    http://littlegreenfootballs.com/article/42103_Dir._of_National_Intelligence_James_Clapper_Condemns_Rush_to_Publish_Reckless_Disclosures

  17. June 8, 2013 at 11:06 pm

    People my people!

GiGi has made a terminal mistake. The fact that the NSA is opening an investigation merely means that the NSA already knows who leaked. And that leaker is not going to go down by him/herself (or themselves). They WILL say if GiGi solicited the leaking. Stay tuned.

    http://news.cnet.com/8301-13578_3-57588337-38/no-evidence-of-nsas-direct-access-to-tech-companies/

The National Security Agency has not obtained direct access to the systems of Apple, Google, Facebook, and other major Internet companies, CNET has learned.
Recent reports in The Washington Post and The Guardian claimed a classified program called PRISM grants “intelligence services direct access to the companies’ servers” and that “from inside a company’s data stream the NSA is capable of pulling out anything it likes.”
Those reports are incorrect and appear to be based on a misreading of a leaked Powerpoint document, according to a former government official who is intimately familiar with this process of data acquisition and spoke today on condition of anonymity.

    **** The Big Part!!****

“It’s not as described in the histrionics in The Washington Post or The Guardian,” the person said. “None of it’s true. It’s a very formalized legal process that companies are obliged to do.”

    • 72 desertflower
      June 8, 2013 at 11:14 pm

Ok… alittle more from that piece:

That former official’s account — that the process was created by Congress six years ago and includes judicial oversight — was independently confirmed by another person with direct knowledge of how this data collection happens at multiple companies. The leaked presentation slides say the program began in September 2007, only weeks after the foreign surveillance law was amended.
The legal process, the person said, is akin to how law enforcement requests information in criminal investigations: the government delivers an order to obtain account details about someone who’s specifically identified as a non-U.S. individual, with a specific finding that they’re involved in an activity related to international terrorism. Both the contents of communications and metadata, such as information about who’s talking to whom, can be requested.

Can we really just put some smackdown on that lying grifter now???!!!

Thank you so much, desertflower, for sharing this excellent piece. I just finished reading the piece and it’s indeed a “MUST READ.” It really a shame about the state of U.S. media.

            June 9, 2013 at 12:07 am

Truly a shame. Because they work for a profit, not for the people….their priorities are corrupted and misplaced…and America suffers for it. So glad that you liked it…I think it should be spread all over the place…much more detailed than other pieces I’ve read. Pass it on:)

Obama’s message to Xi carried a warning, “that if it’s not addressed, if it continues to be this direct theft of United States property, that this was going to be a very difficult problem in the economic relationship,” White House national security adviser Thomas Donilon said.

Hello Chips and our ‘old’ ( 😆 ) TODobots:

You will remember Political Junkessa who used to be with us regularly and at one point shared daily O-quotes that added much to our community spirit. Remember she was my ‘date’ for the Inauguration last January? PJ was on my mind today so I sent her an email to say ‘hi’. She sends a ‘hi’ to the village and a wish that you’ll send some positive energy and prayers her way. Here’s a bit of her email….

“I have been preoccupied lately. I lost my mother last month after a period of illness during which she needed lots of intensive care. I am still in shock and gathering myself. …..

Nonetheless, I will drop by my TOD family in the very near future to say hello. I do miss you all.”

Because we have a truly caring, supportive community here I know I can count on the TOD village to help PJ at this time by praying and holding her ‘up’ in spirit.

{{{{Political Junkessa}}}} We are here whenever you can drop in PJ, and we pray that you will be strengthened even as you remember the relationship you and your mother shared.

On the agenda tomorrow afternoon is the memorial service honoring those our conference has lost this past year. Sadly, the main person to be remembered this time will be our senior pastor. It is going to be an emotional time. Your thoughts will be appreciated.

GM UT, TODers, Etc, etc, etc.

CNN did devote time on this story. MSNBC hardly…..any time there. I don’t watch Fox, so I have no idea what they did. The other alphabet stations are Obsessed with finding faults and distorted stories to go Crazy on 24/7. All Sunday Talk Shows are DC oriented……to them on Sundays, the rest of the 50 states don’t matter. Now had there been a problem or disagreements of some conflicts between pres Obama and the Chinese pres, then our National News Media would care to exploit. They are no longer News outlets…..just Gossip rags.

    Morning…

Here is Joy Reid’s timeline for FISA is anyone wants to keep it handy in their notepad.

1975 Church Committee discovers documents of warrantless wiretapping by Nixon

1978 FISA Act establishes FISA Court which allows wire trapping of ” Agents of Foreign Power ”
Including Americans working with the enemy.

1994 Congress amends FISA ACT to all physical searches of homes in wake of Aldrich Ames spy case.

1999 FISA amended to add Business records of suspected ” Agents of Foreign Powers” ..includes American businesses.

2000 FISA expanded to cover ” Agents of Foreign Powers ” that enter US with fake ID’s

2001 Patriot Act passed that makes any safeguards in FISA null and void.

2002 FISA expanded to AG to wait 72 hours, NOT 24 to seek FISA Court Order.

2004 ” Lone Wolf ” added to FISA and ” Foreign Power ” requirement dropped.

2007 Protect America Act passed…strips warrant requirement. Adds 72 hour ” Notification only ” to FISA Court.
