Thanks so much df for remembering my plea and holding my first place spot. As an expression of my deepest gratitude, I hereby confer upon you the TOD Nobel 1st-place prize – which you have duly earned!!
Oh, you could tell he was enjoying himself as he ripped the scab off of this hysterical outburst over something everybody knows. I was giving him virtual high fives throughout. I was out of my seat with both fists in the air. It was just fabulous. Like I said in the previous thread, it was like a Government 101 tutorial for the lazy media stenographers. They just look like fools.
Pres. Obama was freaking amazing. He was not having any BS. He was like, if you want to have a discussion? Fine. If you want to whine and feign outrage, go have a seat.
I stopped watching after his prepared statements because I knoew that the a**holes would ask about anything but the reason that they were there; glad that PBO was not taking their crap.
Yes – this was an extraordinary smackdown. I was rivetted the whole time and couldn’t help (as zizi and others noted) the gentle smirk and look of utter satisfaction on My President’s face as he took the MSM and their boy Greenwald to the shed.
Perfect picture for this post.
Does anyone here agree with me that president Obama’s eyes were twinkling with mirth while he demolished the bs that has been shoveled at us lately?
I canât help but to think this is similar to the economic âstarve the beastâ trap set by the Republicans. In that case, they spent eight years spiking the deficit and ruining the economy, and then, when the Democrats took over, the Republicans accused the new administration of spending too much, while restricting its ability to resolve the crisis.
Likewise, the eavesdropping and wiretaps and PATRIOT Act and FISA laws and the AUMF, along with the âyou canât have a Constitution if youâre deadâ fearmongering about terrorists, was embedded into both the minds of Americans, but also government systems in Washington. And so when the next guy came along, and we learn about whatâs been happening, itâs the new guyâs problem.
Eight years of scare tactics and 9/11 exploitation for increased government surveillance power. The attorney general under Bush, Michael Mukasey literally cried on stage while griping that Congress was risking another 9/11 by not passing the FISA authorization for warrantless wiretaps. A Republican attorney general cried while exploiting 9/11 in yet another executive power grab.
Yes, the president should work with Congress to roll all of this back. But the cancer here is from second-hand smoke.
I hear there were some back room deals done on who would win the prize for 1st place on this thread. Since it’s Friday, and in honor of Pres. Obama’s wonderful press briefing, everyone is number one today. Congratulations! đ
Thank you Goldie – that’s what I keep saying. When you claim to “support” this President or be part of his “base” but waste no time questioning his competence, credibility, motives, agenda, saying that he’s no different from Bush, you shouldn’t get upset when people turn around and question YOUR agenda, motives, etc.
I loved it when POTUS explain to them that Congress were aware of all of what was going on. I trust President Obama more than I trust the media, and that snake Greenwald.
UT, Goldie struck a golden ore on this last tweet. The “base” that belongs to PBO and elected him TWICE to the presidency belongs to him, not the Democrats in general. If Democratic candidates want our overwhelming support and hours of work, they had better support the president and stand up for him. Anyone Democrat who is piling PBO now and in the next three years had better know that we’re watching and taking names.
My husband misses good ole “Text A for Yes and B for No to 0000000” He felt Ed was with him and understood him. Chris wears him out, and I cannot tolerate him more than two minutes.
Verizongate Fades With a Whimper as Obama Explains What the Program Really Does
By: Jason Easley
——————————-
The Verizongate flap officially faded with a whimper today, as President Obama stood before the American people and explained what the program does.
The president said, âNobody is listening to your telephone calls. Thatâs not what this program is about. As was indicated, what the intelligence community is doing is looking at the numbers and durations of calls. Theyâre not looking at names and theyâre not looking at content, but sifting through this so-called meta data, they may identify potential leads with respect to people that might engage in terrorism.â
This really is a poor excuse for a scandal. It turns out the government is collecting as much metadata on you as your bank, employer, ISP, and search engine already do. This data collection is distasteful whether it is done in the private or public sector, but the fact of the matter is that somebody is watching and keeping tabs on almost everything that we do.
In a post on The Guardian’s website, Greenwald wrote that he’s less interested in addressing the political fallout from his previous scoops and more interested in breaking new stories, which he seemed to suggest could be imminent.
“I don’t have time at the moment to address all of the fallout because – to borrow someone else’s phrase – I’m Looking Forward to future revelations that are coming (and coming shortly), not Looking Backward to ones that have already come,” Greenwald wrote.
HUH! CONGRESS WAS BRIEFED AND NOW THEY ARE OUTRAGED???
Obamaâs Justification For Monitoring Phone Calls And Emails: âModestâ Privacy Encroachment Is Worth It
———————————————–
The federal government is âlooking at phone numbers and durations of callsâ to identify patterns that could produce âpotential leads with respect to folks who might engage in terrorism,â Obama said, but intelligence officials can only access names and the content of conversations if they âgo back to a federal judge, just like they would in a federal investigation.â âEvery member of Congress has been briefed on this program,â he added, âit has been authorized since 2006 by broad bipartisan majorities.
.
.
Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have expressed outrage over the revelations and pledged to introduce legislation limiting the governmentâs surveillance capabilities.
Just had a call from the college republicans, asked me to listen to one minute recording and then answer a one question survey (I figure fundraising call). Recording: glowing verse about Saint Ronnie; Obama won because Hollywood gave big money to buy off youth vote. 250,000 college rethugs on 1000’s of campuses launching the largest grassroots army in history to ensure Pelosi doesn’t become speaker, they revere my generation and want my input (now I know they are dialing for dollars). Live voice comes on line, thanks for listening; Question: Do you support PBO? YES, I BELIEVE HE IS DOING AN OUTSTANDING JOB AND SUPPORT HIM WITH MY TIME & $$$$. She was shocked! I then asked her if she had student loans; Yes. Suggested that her time would be better spent lobbying rethugs in congress as they currently are planning to INCREASE loan rates.
Obviously, they are working off a really old registration list — I switched parties December 2, 2010. The only republican campaign I ever donated to was MYOWN!
hopefruit!!!

Brush it off, Mr. President.
ok now TOD is rigged!
Gangs of TOD’ers, rigging the system.
Yes indeed! You understand the picture. Brushing that emoprog and whiny dirt off his shoulders. đ

Obama; “I welcome this debate.” Says 5-6 years ago some on left and right weren’t worried about it when it was a Republican president.

Is it me or did it seem that President Obama enjoyed schooling these fools?
I noticed it too which is why I posted this:

It was a thing of beauty.
My heart was bursting with joy watching PBO answer that question. đ đ

I would not want to be the staffer who did not place the copy of the president’s prepared remarks on the lecturn. OOOOO, somebody’s in trouble.
CEB, Knowing POTUS, he’ll probably buy them dinner.

I thought the same thing, he had that “who me” look in his eyes. It was so funny, he was like “motherfucker please I got this.”

For those who missed it.
I love Joy Reid, there, I said it.
Me too. She is the best political analyst on MSNBC. I thought I saw that she is covering for someone this weekend. I have to check on that.
Did I hear right? Did PBO say “bleeding” in his remark to the stenographers before he took the first question?
Yes, indeed…..POTUS said Bleeding…..I did a double take…..Yes indeed.
Someone been talking to David Cameron too much. đ
BOOM!
This was the shut your feigned outrage BS moment of the day. POTUS for the win.
PBO probably wanted to add “duh” after this statement of the obvious.
I cringe when PBO uses ‘folks’ in this way. Bush started it and I hate it. That is the negative thing I can come up with about my President.
The other shut your BS feigned outrage moment. Pres. Obama for the win.
Fine, Fine, Fine….Job, oh lady TOD Tweeter reporter. Thank you.
You do it si very well. Your TOD Thread/s, Fantastic. Thank You.
Thank you so much, UT, for this excellent report on what the President said.
