Oh, you could tell he was enjoying himself as he ripped the scab off of this hysterical outburst over something everybody knows. I was giving him virtual high fives throughout. I was out of my seat with both fists in the air. It was just fabulous. Like I said in the previous thread, it was like a Government 101 tutorial for the lazy media stenographers. I canât help but to think this is similar to the economic âstarve the beastâ trap set by the Republicans. In that case, they spent eight years spiking the deficit and ruining the economy, and then, when the Democrats took over, the Republicans accused the new administration of spending too much, while restricting its ability to resolve the crisis.
Likewise, the eavesdropping and wiretaps and PATRIOT Act and FISA laws and the AUMF, along with the âyou canât have a Constitution if youâre deadâ fearmongering about terrorists, was embedded into both the minds of Americans, but also government systems in Washington. And so when the next guy came along, and we learn about whatâs been happening, itâs the new guyâs problem.
Eight years of scare tactics and 9/11 exploitation for increased government surveillance power. The attorney general under Bush, Michael Mukasey literally cried on stage while griping that Congress was risking another 9/11 by not passing the FISA authorization for warrantless wiretaps. A Republican attorney general cried while exploiting 9/11 in yet another executive power grab.
Yes, the president should work with Congress to roll all of this back. But the cancer here is from second-hand smoke.

The Verizongate flap officially faded with a whimper today, as President Obama stood before the American people and explained what the program does.
The president said, âNobody is listening to your telephone calls. Thatâs not what this program is about. As was indicated, what the intelligence community is doing is looking at the numbers and durations of calls. Theyâre not looking at names and theyâre not looking at content, but sifting through this so-called meta data, they may identify potential leads with respect to people that might engage in terrorism.â
This really is a poor excuse for a scandal. It turns out the government is collecting as much metadata on you as your bank, employer, ISP, and search engine already do. This data collection is distasteful whether it is done in the private or public sector, but the fact of the matter is that somebody is watching and keeping tabs on almost everything that we do.

Just had a call from the college republicans, asked me to listen to one minute recording and then answer a one question survey (I figure fundraising call). Recording: glowing verse about Saint Ronnie; Obama won because Hollywood gave big money to buy off youth vote. 250,000 college rethugs on 1000’s of campuses launching the largest grassroots army in history to ensure Pelosi doesn’t become speaker, they revere my generation and want my input (now I know they are dialing for dollars). Live voice comes on line, thanks for listening; Question: Do you support PBO? YES, I BELIEVE HE IS DOING AN OUTSTANDING JOB AND SUPPORT HIM WITH MY TIME & $$$$. She was shocked! I then asked her if she had student loans; Yes. Suggested that her time would be better spent lobbying rethugs in congress as they currently are planning to INCREASE loan rates.
Obviously, they are working off a really old registration list — I switched parties December 2, 2010. The only republican campaign I ever donated to was MYOWN!
