I’m hopelessly behind on most of the news, it was one of those (yucky) days, but will catch up for tomorrow’s R&S – and it sounds like there’s a serious amount of catching up to do….

Monster massive hugs to UT and LL for their wonderful posts today, where would we be without ya? You’re the best.

The MSM have decided to use every means necessary, including lies and exaggerations, to try to bring down President Obama. What the MSM fail to understand is that they no longer have a total monopoly on shaping public opinion. Yes I still read some newspapers, but, since March 2009, I have not watched TV network news or the 24-7 cable tabloid hypes.

Something really stinks about this “scoop” of GG’s…..the timing, the means of publicizing, all of it. On the previous thread someone mentioned Susan Rice’s being named National Security Adviser yesterday as perhaps the prompter for this, and that makes sense to me. Someone is or someones are scared of Susan Rice. She knows where the bodies are buried…..she knows secrets. Behind that beautiful smile, are many, many secrets, and some people are scared to death. Once again, our “press corps” are gullible.
Always glad to see the President in California, amid congenial people.

    • June 6, 2013 at 9:19 pm

Yesterday, he was panhandling asking his readers for cash. This is all orchestrated to give him relevance, and to get MSNBC eyeballs after sinking ratings. The professional left is seeking it’s pound of flesh in a media frenzy-scape

    • June 6, 2013 at 9:19 pm

“Gullible” is another word for “lazy.”

I so hope this is a sting operation. Will be patient. (I commented at end of previous thread that the two papers who simultaneously “scooped” this PRISM story were linked by Assange’s Wikileaks.)

    • June 6, 2013 at 9:24 pm

It has been Greenwald’s intent to paint Obama as worse than or equal to Bush. And it’s his fantasy that if he can take this mainstream then the whole world will see what he sees.

It won’t work. Civil Libertarians and other single issue voters won’t accept reality that vast majority of us just don’t care.

      This too shall pass.

If you are a Federal employee, your pay has been cut, you have been furloughed, and you are under the microscope for any wrong doings.
I would say the Republicans are winning the battle of small government.
So, when the next sequester comes along, nobody will care about cutting government, and when the next debt ceiling comes along, nobody will care that the congress defaulted for less government.
    At least, that’s the theory.
Both right and left wing news MSM are going for the kill…

Sorry if this has already been posted. I love Deval Patrick.

I got drunk after marathon manhunt: Mass. governor

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Gov. Deval Patrick went to his rural home the day after the surviving Boston Marathon bombing suspect was captured and got “quite drunk” alone in a restaurant, he said during a candid conversation at a Boston area marketing firm.

    [snip]

Maggie Merelle, co-owner of the restaurant Rouge in West Stockbridge, said Patrick had a “glass of chardonnay or two” with dinner but she doesn’t remember him being drunk.

“He wasn’t tipsy. I never would have known,” Merelle said.
She said hosting the governor made her feel “like an old Jewish mother feeding him. We just wanted to nourish him.”

    [snip]

President Barack Obama called Patrick on April 19 and advised him that he couldn’t keep the region in lockdown indefinitely, the governor said. He said he would have ended the “shelter in place” order once the door-to-door search in Watertown was completed had Tsarnaev not been captured.

I read the article before I came here tonight and I also loved the statement that was quoted in the article that the lady spoke so lovely about Gov. Patrick. I am sure Gov. Deval Patrick had a huge load lifted from his space for his entire state. Sometime food, drink, quietness, a good book, your spiritual foundation and beautiful family and friends can give much peace in times like those. Gov. Patrick had the entire world on his shoulders, but I am so grateful that he and POB are very dear and close friends and brilliant men as well.

We thank that beautiful and dear lady for being there and taking her job so seriously as well as looking out for her governor after all of them had been through so much. God sends angels and places where angels just are there to help us replenish our spirits after going through so much. HZ

Yes Indeed Carolyn. California is Obama country. I know Darrell Issa is from California, but he is an endangered specie! Here in San Diego County we have 5 Congressional Districts. For a very, very long time 3 of the Districts voted for Republicans and 2 for Democrats. Last election, in 2012, One of the Republican districts went Democratic. so now we have 3 Democrats and 2 Republicans. If Democrats recruit a good candidate, and are willing to spend some money, there is a good chance we can topple Darrell Issa. in 2012, he had the slimmest margin of victory compared to all his previous races.

        • 115 HZ

Nath, I am praying for that. I really am. I do not mean in a mean spirit, but in a hopeful and ‘goodness in my heart’ that Rep. Issa will not be able to continue to cause pain to people and their families and friends with his power and money. It is a simple prayer, but I am putting a lot of trust as I speak the words of my prayer. I have to have faith that he will be removed and not be able to hurt not one more soul.HZ

NPR had a very nice story about the place that the Presidents will be staying at this weekend. The original owners were high-falootin’ California/Hollywood movers and shakers, and hosted all sorts of celebrities and Presidents. This is the first time the complex will host a President since the original owners died – and they had hoped that the place would continue to be used as a summit for important events like this. The wife, in the original owner couple, used to go to great lengths to make her guests feel comfortable, including putting yellow jelly-beans in the yellow room, and pink ones in the pink room. It was actually quite a sweet story – seems like they’re excited about hosting the Presidents this weekend.

THE NATIONAL SECURITY vs PRIVACY CONUNDRUM – IT IS UP TO CONGRESS TO FIX THIS MESS

Senator Franken Calls for FISA Court Opinions to be Made Public When Possible

    By Sarah Jones

    ————————————–

This is how you actually try to change things. Senator Al Franken isn’t grandstanding for the press and pretending he never knew about the Patriot Act and wasn’t briefed on just how the government was using the Patriot Act. Instead, he used this opportunity wisely to call for greater transparency, within reason and with respect to national security issues.

And Tien Le’s perfect response…which is basically what I said on the last thread

    Tien LeJune 6, 2013 at 9:17 PM
I recall previous summers when important issues took a back seat to silly season sensationalism. Ratings go down during the summer–they just do. Most people, and by that I mean real people who are busy living their lives, don’t give a rip about any of this. They want good weather, backyard barbecues, vacations, graduations, new babies, weddings. There just isn’t any significant room left to care about the NSA. They don’t care about the IRS, Benghazi, leaks, Syria, immigration reform. They care about how to pay their bills and what to do with their kids now that they’re out of school. They’re more worried about the weeds in their yard than infrastructure.

Two weeks from now only the most paranoid noise-makers will still be beating the NSA drum. Everyone else will be onto the next tropical storm and flooding and tornadoes and mass shooting.
