I want to know who PBO is sending to the UN? Susan Rice has been fantastic. Little know fact: The name Susan is of Hebrew decent, and means Lily. It is a great name!
Congratulations to Susan Rice and Samantha Power! Powerful and committed ladies, both!
BTW, the NPR facebook page had another sensational story about the FLOTUS incident. A commentator wrote this:
Sarah Kelley: I was at this event and the media COMPLETELY blew this out of proportion. The first lady’s handling of this heckler was completely in step with the rest of the crowd in attendance. The discussion they had was much lighter than it is portrayed in this article. I was shocked to wake up and find this “news.” The heckling was such a minor event in the grand scheme of the evening. We were laughing at the situation. It was lighthearted. I think it is sad that this is what the media took out of the event because it shines a negative light on LGBT people whom have a wonderful relationship with the first lady and this administration. This just proves to me that the media only cares about publicity and sales. I always thought NPR was better than the rest but this has proven me wrong. The news should be about the beautiful and important points she made in her speech. You should be ashamed of yourselves NPR. Of course it was rude, and our first lady handled it perfectly, but the heckling was NOT the most newsworthy portion of the night. Giving this poorly behaved person the spotlight is a reward for her inappropriate behavior.
So there we go. First hand account decrying everything the media is portraying. And, as usual, they are missing the forest for the trees in their push to sensationalize the incident – including NPR! Sad…

SOME JACKALS WERE PERPLEXED BY PBO ANNOUNCING THREE JUDICIAL NOMINEES TO D.C. CURCUIT
JAY CARNEY EXPLAINS WHY……
Press Briefing by Press Secretary Jay Carney, 6/4/2013
———————————–
Q On a different topic altogether. The event just now in the Rose Garden on the judges, the President seemed heated when he was talking about obstacles facing judicial nominees. What did he hope to accomplish by expressing his frustration in public? Is he trying to shame Congress into — by making an appeal to the court of public opinion on this?
MR. CARNEY: The President spoke today because this is an issue that is vital to the carrying out of justice in our system of government. We need judges nominated and confirmed to our courts. And, as the President made clear, his nominees have been subjected to political obstruction repeatedly. The duration from nomination [Committee approval] to confirmation is three times greater in his presidency than it was in his predecessor’s.*
He also made clear that both parties have practiced the slowing down of this process in the past, but it is irrefutable that this situation has gotten out of control, that it is one that some have called a crisis. And it has to be addressed. I mean, every one of his nominees, once they overcome the obstacles, have been confirmed. These are highly qualified nominees.
The case of Caitlin Halligan is unconscionable. She was an enormously qualified nominee. The President is pleased by the confirmation, the overwhelming confirmation of Sri Srinivasan. But there are still three vacancies on that court. And the argument being made that the workload has been reduced and therefore we should eliminate some of the seats on that court is spurious on its face. The caseload is higher now than it was 2005 when some of the same Republican senators were arguing for the necessity of confirming President Bush’s nominees to that court.
There are other courts where some of the same Republican senators have urged for and voted for the confirmation of judges that have a lower caseload than the D.C. Circuit. This is politics. And it is not helpful to the carrying out of the constitutional responsibilities that the President has or that the Senate has. The President is doing his job. He is nominating qualified candidates for these judicial posts. The Senate has to do its job, which is to consider and vote yes or no on those nominees.
And while the progress I noted for one seat on this court was welcome, we have a long way to go before this Senate, Republicans in the Senate, demonstrate a willingness to fulfill their constitutional responsibility in the way that they were meant to fulfill it, which is efficiently. The Constitution doesn’t say advise and consent over two years after a nomination is put forward of a highly qualified individual. These need to be acted on quickly.
Republicans will bristle at Susan Rice’s new job but are impotent to do anything about it.
How the appointment of two liberal interventionists changes the debate about what the US could or should be doing in Syria is harder to gauge.
Samantha Power has a long history of the study of genocide. Susan Rice is said to have been in the forefront of those arguing for intervention in Libya.
But as the Benghazi “talking points” episode demonstrated, the UN ambassador does pretty much what she or he is told. Ms Power won’t be able to get out in front of US policy, even if she wants to. Ms Rice will be in a more critical position.
It would be unwise to expect a sudden change on Syria, but frustrated advocates of intervention will be hoping for a shift.
Hello everyone, including podium topper, PMGZ! I was fiddling around with my laptop so this is a very tentative big-toe-first entry. 😀 I notice the sign-in box does not acknowledge me at all. 🙄
Nothing?? Oh dear! I suspect that all my fiddling around has not landed me in the spam basket for the first time. Now I know what it might feel like when you go back home and your key doesn’t open the door. Sigh! I’ll just sit here (patiently) until Chips Chica, or one of the Chipadees notice me and open the door.

Hel-loooo! Chips! …… Hey, Utal! ……. Hel-looo! ‘Sup, Amk! LL! …..LP!!! Hel-loooo! Drat! Shouldn’t they be able to intuit that I’m just outside the door?
Learned my lesson, so was trying to do it on my own. Obviously got rid of something I shouldn’t because WordPress will not accept my ‘Remember me’ request. For each of these trial comments I’ve had to show my ID – very exasperating, and exactly the reason why I don’t usually touch anything (i.e. clean up) when the ‘puter is working – even sluggishly.
I just don’t believe she was ever considered for SOS. I think it was Kerry from the get go…..and that is because I remember reading that Governor Patrick met with PBO the Friday after the election in the WH Residence…..
I think it was to discuss how they were going to handle Kerry leaving the Senate.
I think Kerry was PBO’s choice in 2008 but chose Hillary to keep party unity. I never thought Susan Rice would be nominated for SOS, but I did think she was going to be the next NSA.
GOP standard Operating Procedures. Sour grapes, not to mention that they never willingly admit defeat.
If they could’ve, they would’ve, described PBO’s re-election as a crushing loss for the Obama family and their vacation plans.
Oppositeland a lot of the time.
What I see is that they can’t stop POTUS and they are getting humiliated by his picks which started with Shinseki, and now culminating with Susan Rice and Samantha Powers.
Get on the wrong side of the MSM/GOP? Next stop WH!
Howdy doody all you O’s!!! Another great getting up day in TODville, wouldn’t you say?
Girl power! Girls rule! We are Woman!! go Stephanie and Susan! woot!!! woot!!
Off I go to wrestle with the weeds. I want PBO to sign an executive order that proclaims weeds to be beautiful and acceptable in all the land. No more backbreaking, never ending, pulling on the little @$%$& only to have them pop up again in two days.
CM, maybe you should act as if PBO has already declared them untouchable. /smirk/ I do. My theory is that if they have so much more determination and character than the perennials/annuals I pay so much for, they deserve a chance. 😉
Her father, Emmett J. Rice, has a wonderful story. He is from Florence, SC and died in 2011 at the age of 91. It is worth googling his Wikipedia entry.
You know Amb. Rice sent out this cryptic tweet (at least I thought it was) yesterday….and I said if that is what renovations look like at the UN….and your happy about it, you have a low standard for what constitutes *improvements* turns out it was a big middle finger…
Let’s stipulate that it’s totally uncool for IRS agents to single out Tea Party groups for extra scrutiny. But let’s also stipulate that it’s totally absurd for Tea Party groups, as well as liberal groups and any other blatantly political groups to qualify as tax-exempt “social-welfare organizations.”
What social-welfare organization really means, in the Tea Party context, is “tax-exempt political organization that doesn’t have to reveal its donors.” It’s a dodge. In other contexts—the National Rifle Association or the Sierra Club—social-welfare organization really means “tax-exempt political organization that doesn’t have to limit its lobbying and campaigning like a normal charity.” Another dodge. The obvious solution would be to eliminate the social-welfare organization as a tax entity—the technical term is 501(c)(4)—and stop giving tax breaks to political groups. That would bring some positive change out of the who-knew-what-where-when IRS circus.

Because that’s what this focus in the scandals is for, to get more republicans in congress, another wave, if you will…
But, it ain’t working…
