Night Owl Chat – Dance Like Nobody’s Watching

“Faeries, come take me out of this dull world,
For I would ride with you upon the wind,
Run on the top of the dishevelled tide,
And dance upon the mountains like a flame.”

Thought that I would put this up here for anyone that wants to contact them and let them know that what happened tonight with FLOTUS is NOT ok! Their itty bitty contact info is on the very bottom of the page….read the schpeel…as usual, they are mad at the wrong people. If it were up to POTUS, it would be done already. I hate stupid people. Really.

That’s so right Goldie, FLOTUS told that protester that the crowd can listen to FLOTUS or they could listen to that rude disrespectful protester. And I think the crowd made their decision. The protester was shown the door.

I read one article that said the heckler was “taken aback”. Guess she didn’t think the FLOTUS had it in her to “smack down” a rude, inconsiderate person. I love FLOTUS’ response.

When bush was occupying the White House, these folks were complaining he was a dictator, now that President Obama doesn’t do their bidding, they are upset that he’s not THEIR dictator.

Michelle Obama Let a Protester Have It and I Approve!
    [ 13 ] June 4, 2013 | Luvvie

People gon learn that folks got limits. According to the Washington Post, Michelle Obama was speaking at a private fundraiser when a lesbian activist named Ellen Hurtz kept interrupting her. She wanted POTUS Obama to sign an anti-discrimination executive order.

Wells, that wasn’t the time for her to be showing out and clearly, FLOTUS wasn’t here (nor there nor anywhere) for that. So she left where she was standing and stood in front of the woman and said:

“One of the things that I don’t do well is this. Do you understand? Listen to me or you can take the mic, but I’m leaving. You all decide. You have one choice.”

OOP!!! Like a REAL G! Apparently, people asked Michelle to stay and Ellen was showed the door, and I hope given the suggestion that it better not hit her where the good Lord split her. Cuz… WELP. And afterwards, the lady talmbout she was “taken aback” by Michelle stepping to her because she paid $500 to be there.

Oh, I have another essay boiling up in me after this shit.

Yes, I know that the real enemy is the Right. But fuck me running backwards if we don’t have to fight the whiny Left as well. All they’ve done during these two terms is solidify the stereotype most of the country holds of them.

saw this on the heckler’s twitter page:

    “Scoops Westside ‏@ScoopsWestside 15 Jan 11

    Ellen Sturtz ‏@eos16 15 Jan 11
Are you back with the new flavors?@ScoopsWestside

    Ellen Sturtz ‏@eos16 6 Jan 11
When will you be on the Westside? We can’t wait!!”

yet another white-privilege “activist” with all the time in the world, and tens of thousands of dollars to donate to campaigns and causes, attending high-dollar fundraisers across the country, and heckling a completely self-made person who rose above racial and gender barriers at the same time to become one of the great role models of the world. looks like ms. sturtz “married” into zacky poultry money (and perhaps had family money before too?), which is a major poultry and meat company in california, similar to tyson foods. no wonder she was surprised to have someone stand up to her and her bullying ways:

  18. June 4, 2013 at 11:33 pm

Someone will have to explain the proper heckler “ettiquete.” Ignore? Try to converse with them? PBO has tried that, they instead want to talk “at” you and not with you, and have NO listening skills. MO gave her heckler a choice….hopefully she also reminded her to contact her dully elected officials, especially ones who do not share her concerns.

Our president is with you on this issue, it’s a part of his agenda…now go “heckle” bonehead and mcturtle, plus your state officals.

When a gay rights group ignores the current President’s many accomplishments in the areas they care about, and instead give an award to the former President who signed into law many of the things they detest, then they do their group a huge disservice. I’ve checked out of the gay rights issues for now. The people who speak for them aren’t doing them any favours.

    • June 4, 2013 at 11:45 pm

Read my post from earlier today. It’s a perfect example of the cynicism which infects our politics. If she heckles FLOTUS, she doesn’t have to do the hard work of getting a Congress that will enact change; but, she gets kudos from the usual suspects. It’s all a big con.

You prior post, on cynicism, totally nailed it LL! This woman thinks her “cynical” theatrics, heckling FLOTUS, constitutes political action. She probably knows very little about the Constitutional limitations on Executive Powers.

Yes Indeed UT, They don’t want to do the hard work of convincing Congress, or working to elect allied members of Congress, to pass laws that protect and advance the rights of gay people. They are all about instant gratification. I wish they would take time to study the history of Black freedom struggles. It took almost 100 years for Congress to finally pass laws to enforce the 13th, the14th and 15th Amendments. Moreover, despite all the passage of Civil Rights Laws, African Americans still face rampart discrimination.

It’s just like anything in life, whether it’s losing weight, building a career, starting a family…it’s all about the process, and the process is what makes the outcome either a success, or not. Progress can not be rushed, and when folks try to cut corners, it never works as much as if it happens naturally and slowly over time.

Thanks Dudette! Posting this is absolutely worth loosing your sleep. I made a similar comment about the need of GLBT to seriously study the history of Black Freedom struggles. I don’t remember Blacks heckling JFK or Jackie Kennedy or LBJ and LadyBird. Blacks folks didn’t show up to heckle Bill Clinton or First Lady Hillary Clinton. Once again, what we are witnessing from the so called purity left is this notion that it’s ok to disrespect the President and the First Lady simply because they are Black. And if the President or the First Lady dare to respond then they are the ones that the media will attack for being overly aggressive, or as Kristof said “confrontational.”

Change of subject…but AMEN and good for Rep. McDermott!

“But as I listen to this discussion, I’d like to remind everyone what we are talking about here,” he continued. “None of your organizations were kept from organizing or silenced. We are talking about whether or not the American taxpayers would subsidize your work. We are talking about a tax break.”

“Each of your groups is highly political,” the congressman said. “From opposing the President’s healthcare reform, to abortion restrictions, to gay marriage, you’re all entrenched in some of the most controversial political issues in this country – and with your applications you are asking the American public to pay for that work. Many of you host and endorse candidates. The line between permitted political activity and non-permitted political activity can be very fine, and it’s important that tax payers know which side you fall on.”

When is Jeff Zucker going to put David Gergen out to pasture?

    • 86 4morefor44
      June 5, 2013 at 12:53 am

huh? gergen’s going to get a promotion with that. you have to understand that jeff zucker and his ilk WANT republican propaganda spread. that’s why they have those jobs even though ratings tank everywhere they go and they just keep failing upward. this is what the billionaire owners of “the news” want. that’s exactly why jeff zucker was hired, and david gergen stays for DECADES, despite steady ratings drops at cnn.

      • June 5, 2013 at 1:04 am

Zucker is no idiot……he is actually phasing out the dusty old bulls that have occupied CNN for the last decade. If you notice last week, Tapper was anchoring “breaking news” while Blitzer was sent and kept in Oklahoma… He just made 28 yr. old Kate Bouldan the youngest anchor/co-anchor in morning news history….he just hired Kevin Madden and Stephanie Cutter last week, and let Carville/Matlin go…I think you have your impressions of Zucker backward. Candy Crowley will be next, mark my words…he just has to be subtle and not do a kamikaze mission.

        • 88 4morefor44
          June 5, 2013 at 1:26 am

well, jeff zucker’s recent track record has been horrendous, yet he keeps getting bigger and bigger jobs. why is that? and what difference does it make if he’s replacing older republican shills with younger republican “both sides do it” shills? we all know what jake tapper is about already. i never heard of kate bouldan, yet her wiki page says she’s married to a principal of the CARLYLE GROUP, one of the biggest and longest-running slush funds for the military industrial complex, and for a long time controlled by the bush family. are we to expect good honest journalism from young, unaccomplished kate? we’ll see how stephanie cutter is used and how much airtime she gets or lasts, plus “news” outlets always have to at least one or two voices of sanity (meaning a liberal) so it doesn’t become TOO obvious such as fox snooze. it helps keep up the facade of “news.”

a few billionaires own all “the news” today. the things people are so mad about here day after day will continue until the ownership is changed, either bought by smarter, more fair billionaires such as george soros or others, or they are forced to break up through the kind of anti-trust legislation that dominated the industry for decades before republicans and bill clinton got rid of all those pesky restrictions. that will only happen if we keep electing more and better democrats.

I am too pissed right about now to sleep.
That $500 heckler has the nerve to say that she was “taken aback”.
She had better be glad SS was not resuscitating her while lying on her back.
I recall while in D.C. At the first election a couple of guys who were selling their soveneirs on the street were discussing amongst themselves how tough and smart our then new First Lady was going to be. I bought extras just to hear more and they were serious and so is she.

trying to wrap my brain around their logic at “get equal,” which admits they planned this heckling event against the FIRST LADY. what was said at that strategy meeting? “okay, so we want the president to do this specific thing. i got it! let’s go try to aggressively embarrass his wife publicly and shout at her! yes, that will make him warm up to us and want to do what we ask. perfect!”

i know if someone would try to come after my wife like that, i’d set them straight right quick, and they would probably go to the last on my list of people i’d respect or listen to. what a bunch of idiots!

and to these “occupy” nitwits…isn’t that literally what first lady obama did today? she did a “mic check” right in front of the group, and the group chose the first lady. if they believed in egalitarian society, they’d have to respect that and take a seat, yet like all these people, they can’t handle the “will of the people” and must whine and shout, and now play the victim after being the aggressor in the first place, when they can’t act as dictators. hypocrites, each and everyone of the professional left!!!

The protester and her group plan this whole thing, and I too do not like it one bit. Am I glad FLOTUS gave it back to that protester, you dam right I am. This was just another show of disrespect for the Obamas. I agree that protester and her group owe the First Lady an apology, but I don’t expect one.

Good Morning…..I am still disturbed about the incident that was thrust upon Michelle Obama…..I posted, in anger, last night and reread it this morning….although I feel exactly the same, I wanted to expand….I refer to Michelle Obama, in this instance, not as First Lady but as a human being…My anger is not b/c MO is First Lady, wife of President Barack Obama, but b/c Michelle Obama is a fellow human being with the same feelings of joy, love, fear, pain, self doubt, confidence, anger and so on as the rest of us. It is just as rude and classless to scream at the cashier at a fast food joint as it is the First Lady of the United States…..Yet it seems to have become a trend that it is acceptable to do both….Where are we going as a Nation when it has become acceptable to be rude but unacceptable to react to the rudeness? It seems to me that a lot of the ills of this country are being attributed to our “freedoms”…Freedom of speech, Freedom to bear arms, etc; ….

    • June 5, 2013 at 7:15 am

Thank you, kathryn. That is perfectly said.

Someone wondered how MSNBC would spin its own poll. Well, I made myself keep TV on Today Show until that segment was done. I couldn’t make it through Chuckie’s full report, but what I heard was “some serious concerns for the administration……..major loss among independents….” CLICK/switch to my local morning show.

    • June 5, 2013 at 9:10 am

We seem to have become a society that believes that in exercising our freedoms, we have no accompanying responsibilities. And our children are learning that there are no consequences to our actions. Our children are learning that as long as they get the benefits and attention that they want, it does not matter who is negatively impacted. Our children are learning that you don’t have to work hard and do the right thing to succeed.

Through our media, through our government, through our acceptance as citizens, we are teaching our children that these things are okay. Look at how the media is exalting the actions of this heckler rather than condemning it.

      • 125 99ts
        June 5, 2013 at 9:32 am

As far as our children are concerned, I think the saddest thing is the lack of respect (from children & some parents) for their teachers – it causes such grief for themselves their schools and their communities. I can still remember telling my child when she was 12 – “If you have an argument with a teacher – I am on the teacher’s side”. It worked well – there were few – if any – arguments with teachers.

        • June 5, 2013 at 9:51 am

99ts you are so right about the lack of respect shown to teachers. I am a substitute teacher and am witness to it. Parents are more willing to blame the teacher for their child’s bad behavior and lack of respect. Administrators do not help either; more worried about their performance as opposed to whether teachers have the resources and support to do what they are there to do — TO TEACH.

There is also an “everyone wins” mentality in many schools. Hard work and special achievements are often not acknowledged in the way they should be for fear of another child feeling slighted.

So many students learn there are no consequences for bad behavior and you can be rewarded even if you don’t work hard. And it is carrying over into their adult life.

I know change is good but with some things – I wonder. my dad was a teacher in a city and then a small town. We used to get some amazing gifts from parents – in thanks for what he did. Never forgotten the day I arrived home and on the front doorstep was an enormous snapper (fish) – big enough to feed a dozen – and a bunch of bananas (probably 60 or more). My Dad used to tell the story as to how he got some paint in c. 1947 – when in very short supply (as was much in my world after WWII) – to paint his house. Very doubtful origins – one of his students had an uncle with access to all sorts of needed items!

The heckling of our First Lady at yesterday’s event and the constant criticism of our President from all directions continues to emphasize that President Obama is held to a different standard than previous presidents. He is too involved. He’s not involved enough. He is expected to do so much more against all odds. Every accomplishment is never enough. Every response is not fast enough. Every positive achievement is unfairly credited to the action(s) of someone else. Every negative incident is all the fault of this President.

There are individuals and groups who think that, unlike other presidents, President Obama was given some magical power just by being elected; that he could wave some magic wand and things would happen just because he commands it to be so. Sadly, this perception speaks to how little people really know about how our government works. Besides, would we, Americans who are protective of our rights and freedoms, really be happy having a President who had that much power?

People are falling for the lies spread by the GOP that the President’s administration is a culture of intimidation. Seriously!?!?!?!? If the President was THAT intimidating, why is it that the GOP is so comfortable with their obstructionism? Why do people like McCain, Graham, Cruz, Paul, et al freely spout their lies on Sunday talk shows and other venues? Would a Darrell Issa be able to generate this “Scandalgate” environment? Congress has spent the last 5 years doing NOTHING! That is the REAL scandal.

The President is not looking for a quick, temporary fix via an Executive Order. He is looking for a more permanent fix; legislation. A fix that will be hard to take away once he leaves office. The President does not want to short change us by giving a false sense of security via an EO, knowing that the benefits from an EO can be easily reversed. Besides, if these groups REALLY want change, why aren’t they going after Congress, the people who we have elected and who are in the position to enact legislation that will result in change that’s more real and more permanent?

In addition, all the things that people seemed to have expected the President to accomplish on day one were overshadowed by the crises that he had to confront on the first day he walked into the oval office. Should he have ignored the financial crisis? Should he have put aside the fact that we were in the midst of two wars? The President recognizes that the interests of his “base” are broad. We should recognize that, even with the deliberate obstruction of the GOP fueled by the misinformation of the MSM, and yes, the passive “support?” of his own party, everything cannot be done at once. And everything will not be done the way we THINK it should be done. But if we are really paying attention and stop allowing ourselves to be distracted by faux issues, we will realize that the President and his administration have overcome many obstacles and that we are benefitting so much from what they have been able to accomplish. And in the long run, if historians are fair and truthful, President Obama will be touted as one of the greatest Presidents– if not THE GREATEST President — of our lifetime.

Chuck Todd is on Today spinning decent steady poll numbers for PBO as a big negative. He seems frustrated that after all his maligning, President Obama’s personal likability is still high. He keeps talking about “ominous signs” and scandals affecting his administration. I think he’s saying that this means Romney will win.

From my a.m. observations, it looks like all news media is supportive of FLOTUS’ reaction to the rude protester at the fundraiser. Either everyone has had it with these stupid, counter-productive interrupters —–or it makes a diff that these recent protests come from the left. I wondered if there would be a diff reaction if it was a tea party protester——because I remember the media silence when the tea party nutballs were going wild with all kinds of preposterous protests and misspelled signs and dumb chants and brazen appearances at campaign events with guns on proud display——–and —–complete crickets from our news media.

    • 168 hopefruit2
      June 5, 2013 at 8:57 am

Actually the media has no choice but to grudgingly support FLOTUS because they know that NO ONE dare tried the same with Barbara or Laura Bush. They know that none of these groups have heckled Boehner and his GOP colleagues in congress for stalling, obstructing, or passing all kinds of discriminatory legislation. The media also knows that they were silent or even applauding when Christie cursed out a heckler – that was not long ago, and if they dare oppose FLOTUS, not only will they be (rightfully) seen as sexist/misogynist, but racist as well. And I think finally, the amount of Twitter support that FLOTUS received from ordinary people may have been instrumental as well.

    • 169 99ts
      June 5, 2013 at 9:07 am

Part of the support comes from the fact that the protests came from the left. If a GOPer had done this they would have had some negative things to say about the first lady.

It is good to see that on twitter CodePink are getting no support – they have managed to do themselves a lot of harm – when will such people ever realize who is on their side – and who is not.

LOVE Susan Rice and Samantha Power. Both absolutely well-deserving of these positions.

I believe POTUS always had in mind John Kerry for SOS, so it’s not retaliation for that. But the way she was treated over Benghazi was a sham and a shame and POTUS stood up for her on that. I’m so thrilled she’s moving up in his cabinet!! And Samantha Power is FIERCE!!
