With most of the right convinced that Barack Obama is the most corrupt president since Nixon, or maybe Harding, or probably Of All Time, conservative media just can’t resist a good scandal. And it’s killing them. From deliberately cooked-up lies, to garbled reporting, to failures of the most basic due diligence, there’s scarcely a breath between one conservative media faceplant and the next. Even Erick Erickson recognizes the damage this behavior is doing to the Republican brand, but so far at least, the right can’t help itself.
So here is a (non-exhaustive) list of the biggest failures of conservative media in the Obama age.
Actually, I don’t think that the right genuinely believes that PBO is the most corrupt President since Nixon. Quite the opposite – they KNOW that he is one of the more honest and morally upright Presidents we’ve had in a long, long time, and that is precisely what bothers them so much about him. They would have liked for him to be corrupt – that would have satisfied them very much, because they would have TRUE reasons to go after him, and the American people would be on board. But that’s not the case so they are increasingly frustrated, and the end result is that they are unhinged and enraged.
I think you have to make a distinction between the leadership and the base. The GOP leadership know that President is indeed one of the more honest and morally upright Presidents ever. But with their constant demagoguery and their lies, they have convinced their base that President Obama is corrupt and evil.
My problem is with the so called mainstream media. People spreading false and manufactured scandals would not get anywhere if the MSM did not aid and abate them, either by failing to point out the lies or by reporting the false scandals as if they were true.
I believe all that you have written to be true and it is truly frightening to watch. Hence I have quit watching all newscasts including PBS. They are no longer any better. And I have quit listening to any politician of any stripe except for President Obama. I appreciate very much the summaries and links found here that keep me informed. It is the only way to stay sane.
Sharon, saving your sanity and energy is an important first step to winning. We have a big job ahead of us in 2014 and we have to focus with laser like precision on getting that job done well. While the right wing and extreme left rants around us, we have to build up our forces, define our strategies and keep our eyes firmly on the prize of redeeming the US Congress with more Democrats and taking back our state houses.
Nail on the head. Very well said. Thank you, Hope. They are very aware that he is no Nixon. Heck Nixon was one of theirs, a very dirty one and they want so badly for PBO to be like him. They can fathom his honesty. It is maddening to them. Excellent point.
I dare say many would like to be like him. They just don’t have the same ingredients.
I agree with you hopefruit2. I always let these media folks, Chris Matthews, Bill Press, CNN, ABC, CBS, MSNBC, NBC, know that my confidence in President Obama has not change one bit.
LH, here’s something else that’s making the Republican knee-jerk Nixon/Watergate comparisons fall flat. Not only do they over play every hand they get to the point of absurdity, they are also painfully out of synch with the times. Nixon hasn’t been in office for FORTY years, which means that for most of today’s electorate he is ancient, stale, irrelevant history. Right wingers nurture their grudges through generations, but most of the rest of America moves on. Today, people see a vibrant, intelligent, hard-working president who talks to them about things that resonate with their lives. What does some weird looking old guy from the past have to do with that? The GOP is embarrassingly inept at communicating with younger people (and by that I mean anyone under 45) and they are now underlining, flagging and just about screaming that ineptness to the world.
and look at all the time that is being wasted…when our country and our people could be doing so much better….talking about this scandal fakery means that they are not talking about…JOBs…the budget…sequestration….student loans….etc…this is the real scandal…and part two of this …is how the press is not calling them out on it…
That’s the core of it, PF. They’re wasting our time, running out the clock so nothing will get done while PBO is in office and I truly despise them for that. As for the media, they’re like children following the jelly beans down which ever little alley the right wing sends them. It’s long past the era when anyone in the media cared about the truth and had a sense of gravitas. That is the real scandal, and absent the media, it’s up to us to spread the word.
Maybe we overestimate the role of the press…there was an old clip of Dr King on MTP…in which he was challenged on the correctness of the March on Selma…he was asked if perhaps there was a better way of challenging Jim Crow…
Ok, now that I’m done dancing around the house naked after the famous US victory over Germany, a happy Sunday to one and all. I haven’t been online most of the weekend, as I’ve discovered there’s a whole world—OH MY GOD ENGLAND LEADS BRAZIL 2-1!!!!!!

Thanks Anniebella for your e-mails! These media people need to be pushed to stop giving this crook, Darrell Issa, megaphones to falsely tarnish the President and the AG! As far as I am concerned, nothing that comes out of the mouth of this Crook, Issa, should be given any credibility. I hope Democrats can groom a credible candidate to challenge him in 2014.
So, now we have House Republucans in Russia, meeting with their Officials. Why? These House Republucans, for example Steve King, are trying to get to the bottom if the Boston Bombings.
The only thing they have done is what we already know, that the information sharing between both countries were inadequate.
But, are these Republicans in Russia beating the war drum, with Russia, or Syria or both?
In Russia undermining John Kerry’s work these past few weeks.
OMG!
My Only question is why did the Trip include, Steven Seagal the Film and TV actor? He is neither a lawmaker nor an intel agent. So why was the House Intel Committee inviting Mr. Seagal as a tag along? Hmm? Acting as an special agent is not Real life. I had seen a photograph and Steven Seagal is standing behind Koln, a Dem from TN, Sensenbrenner from WI and another House member next by..
Rohrabacher said a higher level of cooperation between the United States and Russia is necessary to keep people safe in both countries. “Radical Islam is at our throat in the United States, and is at the throat of the Russian people,” he said.
The congressman repeatedly thanked Seagal, who took credit for arranging the congressmen’s meeting at the FSB, and said it helped avoid the experience of past foreign trips when all of the meetings had been arranged by the U.S. Embassy.
“You know what we got? We got the State Department controlling all the information that we heard,” Rohrabacher said. “You think that’s good for democracy? No way!”
The action movie star escorted the congressmen on a trip Saturday to the site of a terrorist attack in the Caucasus town of Beslan, where militants seized a school in 2004 and took more than 1,000 people hostage, most of them children. More than 330 hostages died, most of them when federal troops stormed the school.
Seagal had invited the delegation to visit Chechnya, but the trip was called off in part because U.S. House rules would have prevented the congressmen from flying on his private plane, Rohrabacher said.
The Kremlin has given Kadyrov lavish funding and political carte blanche to fight terrorism since he came to power in 2005. Activists accuse him and his feared security forces of staggering abuses, including torture, kidnappings and murder.
“All these accusations are thrown around,” said Seagal, who was given a lavish welcome in Kadyrov’s palace. “Is there any evidence? Has he been indicted?”
The diplomatic tussle comes after a year of deepening strains between Russia and the United States, and on the eve of a visit by President Obama’s national security adviser, Tom Donilon. The Obama administration has sought Russian cooperation in crises in Syria and North Korea, and recently decided to scale back plans for a missile defense system in Europe, an irritant to Russia. But Mr. Putin attributes a wave of protests against his government to Western interference in domestic affairs, and is increasingly hostile to American criticism of his human rights record.
The Kremlin has made no comment since Friday, when the Obama administration announced that it had penalized about two dozen Russians, ordering their assets in the United States frozen and denying them entry to the country. There were no high-ranking officials among the 18 names made public on Friday, but a handful of other names are on a classified list — among them the Kremlin-allied leader of Chechnya, Ramzan A. Kadyrov, according to people briefed on the matter.
Mr. Kadyrov mocked the measure on Saturday in remarks to journalists, telling Interfax that he was glad to be on the list.
“I am proud that I am Russian, proud that I am unpleasant for America, because they are involved in outrages all over the world,” he said. “I love my homeland, and as I said, even if I were not on the list, even in that case I would not buy a ticket to America.”
Mr. Kadyrov is a close ally of Mr. Putin’s, and his reported inclusion on the classified list led the headlines in Russia on Saturday. With the Kremlin’s backing, Mr. Kadyrov has used harsh methods to suppress a separatist insurgency in the volatile southern region he leads. The public list of those Russians to be penalized included a man accused of gunning down one of Mr. Kadyrov’s former bodyguards who was providing evidence for a case against Mr. Kadyrov in the European Court of Human Rights.
This Kadyrov guy is the one that Seagal has a fondness for…and connections with (see above snippet) Something nefarious is going on here.
Don’t go all crazy quoting the Bible and stuff, I already know I’m going to hell. I wish they had taken them all hostage. Then McCain could go over to rescue them and they could take him hostage too.
Thanks Bob for re-tweeting David Plouffe’s tweet. Many of us here in California are very much aware of Darrell Issa’s criminal background that foiled his plan to run for Governor after he successfully funded the re-call of Gov. Gray Davis, a recall that was based on manufactured lies as well as ENRON’s manipulation of the CA energy. Just as Issa was gearing up to run for Governor, reports surfaced about his criminal background that David Plouffe alluded to and he quit the race in tears. Issa’s criminal background should be highlighted every time the MSM try to push his BS investigations as if they were legitimate. What we need is an in-depth investigation, and an expose, of Issa’s criminal background. That way the American people can decide who to trust: President Obama or Darrell Issa.
Perhaps, nath, one of Issa’s biggest concerns about AG Holder is that Holder could well have the DOJ and CA AG cooperating on just such an investigation.
Dear Diary,
For my birthday this year, I purchased a week of personal training at the local health club. Although I am still in great shape since being a high school football cheerleader 43 years ago, I decided it would be a good idea to go ahead and give it a try.
I called the club and made my reservations with a personal trainer named Christo, who identified himself as a 26-year-old aerobics instructor and model for athletic clothing and swim wear.
Friends seemed pleased with my enthusiasm to get started! The club encouraged me to keep a diary to chart my progress.
________________________________
MONDAY:
Started my day at 6:00 am. Tough to get out of bed, but found it was well worth it when I arrived at the health club to find Christo waiting for me. He is something of a Greek god– with blond hair, dancing eyes, and a dazzling white smile. Woo Hoo!!
Christo gave me a tour and showed me the machines.. I enjoyed watching the skillful way in which he conducted his aerobics class after my workout today. Very inspiring!
Christo was encouraging as I did my sit-ups, although my gut was already aching from holding it in the whole time he was around.
This is going to be a FANTASTIC week!!
________________________________
TUESDAY:
I drank a whole pot of coffee, but I finally made it out the door. Christo made me lie on my back and push a heavy iron bar into the air then he put weights on it! My legs were a little wobbly on the treadmill, but I made the full mile. His rewarding smile made it all worthwhile. I feel GREAT! It’s a whole new life for me.
_______________________________
WEDNESDAY:
The only way I can brush my teeth is by laying the toothbrush on the counter and moving my mouth back and forth over it. I believe I have a hernia in both pectorals. Driving was OK as long as I didn’t try to steer or stop. I parked on top of a GEO in the club parking lot.
Christo was impatient with me, insisting that my screams bothered other club members. His voice is a little too perky for that early in the morning and when he scolds, he gets this nasally whine that is VERY annoying.
My chest hurt when I got on the treadmill, so Christo put me on the stair monster. Why anyone would invent a machine to simulate an activity rendered obsolete by elevators? Christo told me it would help me get in shape and enjoy life. He said some other crap too.
_______________________________
THURSDAY:
Jerk head was waiting for me with his vampire-like teeth exposed as his thin, cruel lips were pulled back in a full snarl. I couldn’t help being a half an hour late– it took me that long to tie my shoes.
He took me to work out with dumbbells. When he was not looking, I ran and hid in the restroom. He sent some skinny girl to find me.
Then, as punishment, he put me on the rowing machine– which I sank.
_________________________________
FRIDAY:
I hate that Christo more than any human being has ever hated any other human being in the history of the world. Stupid, skinny, anemic, anorexic, little aerobic instructor. If there was a part of my body I could move without unbearable pain, I would beat him with it.
Christo wanted me to work on my triceps. I don’t have any triceps! And if you don’t want dents in the floor, don’t hand me the stupid barbells or anything that weighs more than a sandwich.
The treadmill flung me off and I landed on a health and nutrition teacher. Why couldn’t it have been someone softer, like the drama coach or the choir director?
________________________________
SATURDAY:
Satan left a message on my answering machine in his grating, shrilly voice wondering why I did not show up today. Just hearing his voice made me want to smash the machine with my planner; however, I lacked the strength to even use the TV remote and ended up catching eleven straight hours of the Weather Channel..
________________________________
SUNDAY:
I’m having the Church van pick me up for services today so I can go and thank GOD that this week is over. I will also pray that next year my husband will choose a gift for me that is fun– like a root canal or a hysterectomy. I still say if God had wanted me to bend over, he would have sprinkled the floor with diamonds!!!
“The only way I can brush my teeth is by laying the toothbrush on the counter and moving my mouth back and forth over it” ……….thank your for that Yardarm!
There’s no rest for the weary. These people are amazing. The projects and initiatives that are taking place on a daily basis under the radar are just remarkable. Our energizer bunny president and his administration just keep going and going and going. It’s a tremendous source of comfort to me that they just keep doing their jobs in the midst of all of the noise and obstruction coming from the Republican Party. They are truly solid as a rock. Or should I say solid as BARACK!
So now they want to make a big deal out of the costs of IRS conferences over a three year period…$50 million. Strikes me that’s the same amount they’ve wasted repealing ObamaCare. Anyone know where to find figures for past years?
I don’t even know what to say. That’s one of those things the cynical me has always believed was going on, but i never would have guessed regulators and law enforcement simply looked the other way. I could only think as I read that garbage about the many little small-time drug dealers and users they lock up for decades. Disgusting!
Well I must say if you haven’t already watched that ‘Life inside the White House’ video that UTAL shared in today’s Rise & Shine you should do so now (Alright. Okay. Do so before you go to bed). I usually hesitate when videos are longer than 10 mins (short attention span, don’t you know) so I kept putting this one off, then decided to watch 10-15 mins while catching up on the comments I missed here. I skipped the intro, started in with Jon F at about the 20 minute mark and was hooked!! I was so enthralled I never bothered to catch up with comments. All four speakers gave awesome testimonies – you have to listen for yourself if you haven’t yet!
You noticed, eh? I love all the others joining in with the fact that even then she was generous with the # of viewers she ascribed to Tweety. 😉
Truth is, apart from Jon F I didn’t know anyone’s name ( because I skipped the very beginning) but I sure loved what they had to say. I particularly loved the fact that they spoke so naturally. I never get a sense that people are pretending when they speak about the O Admin, and I always get the idea that they a) respect the Pres and his family, and b) had a terrific experience working with him.
Paging Naughty Mats….Paging Mr. Yardarm with the Naughty Mats…Paging the ‘Audrey’ & ‘Eleroy’ concern trolls who spring from nowhere to complain about TODers who invoke Mr. Yardarm with the Naughty Mats….
Chips, LL, UT, AMK………any of you going to post something? I am watching Game of Thrones, and was expecting somebody to have started a thread by now….I can throw something together for the village if need be.
OMG. My daughter just finished watching Game of Thrones and I thought she was having sensory overload! She was wailing and screaming and had to leave the house to compose herself…
Thanks for the laughs. Love em!
Congrats on 1rst Almablanca! feels good doesn’t it
Thanks..Sunday funnies/toons are my favourite. Chips has the best team. My T-shirt says ‘I read the news on TOD.”
Congrats on first Amblanca! Sorry about the WP glitch TOD…..fixed now.(hopefully)
Hello!
great stuff LP! so funny and yet so sad!
TY layla, and a belated congrats on first from the previous thread….
Afternoon Obots!
Just one thing to say right now: USA! USA1 USA beats Germany 4-3!!!!!!!
We shall join PM Cameron…..in celebrating the German defeat!!
And England is tied 1-1 with Brazil.
FANTASTIC !!!!
Whew…. when i clicked on the link, and was told the page did not exist, I felt quite lost and alone!! Relief is settling in, and now off to make some lunch! BBL! Hugs all around, beautiful day over here in the Pacific NW!

but I do know that the GOP leadership…appeals to the worse in people….ginning up fear and hatred….
My problem is with the so called mainstream media. People spreading false and manufactured scandals would not get anywhere if the MSM did not aid and abate them, either by failing to point out the lies or by reporting the false scandals as if they were true.

Wonder who will step to challenge Boehner…
What is it with Democrats…they start a race and just drop off at will…like they forgot the implications of running and winning beforehand. Republicans can be involved in a criminal investigation and still run..insane!!
I wonder if it was support and funding….
I really don’t want to question this guy’s motives but he had the same priorities before he announced he was going to run, and he still signed up. These planted Democrats need to be weeded out.
Well, Don, the DCCC had best hop to it and find someone willing to run with every thing he has against Boehner. That man HAS to go.
Don, I agree with you. the Democratic party should be vetting their candidates more thoroughly. This should not be happening so close to 2014.
A guy goes to the opera and meets a couple, he tells the couple how much he liked going to the opera with his wife before she passed away.
The couple says to the guy “it’s so nice of you to continue to go to the opera to honor your wife.”
The guy says “well, it was either go to the opera or go to the funeral.”
smh
Totally off topic but in line with your..ummm….joke….hahaha

Me too, that is the one that caught my eye..
Watching Mission Impossible:Ghost Protocol. Can’t stand Tom Cruise, but do love the movie. So I can’t resist watching it.

Sorry….Holds a “special” place in my heart…watched this the night before our family cruise 🙂 Sick hubby humor
I thought…Oh goodie, Desertflower will give me a good movie to look at and you come up with that. 🙂 Actually, I think in another life I was a bank robber, probably during the roaring twenties. Heck, I might have even been in the mob, because I love heist movies. I love a well-executed plan. 🙂

I’ve turned all of them off!

Go right ahead and BRAG!! You’ve got plenty to brag about. 🙂

I sent a email to Candy Crowley and I told her that Darrell Issa is a bold face liar who is like a rotten hound dog sniffing around for anything he can make into a scandal even if he has to lie, which is something he does very well.
Good for you, anniebella! Thanks for pushing hard!!
You welcome desertflower.
Candy Crowley, now that’s another piece of work for ya. 😦
OMG!
The Keystone Cops have invaded Russia. The Republicans are an international embarrassment.
This isn’t what I was going for….but Sam Cooke is always welcome.
There we go! 🙂
Jeeze!
Lord, help us.
Between Dennis Rodman and Stephen Seagal, we should be able to solve all our international problems. I don’t why we need John Kerry.
Oh, I forgot McCain.
…………and Daffy Duck.
🙂
Got a feeling after Plouffe’s smack down tweet on Issa, we may soon see this:
THIS Steven Segal???? http://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain/2011/08/31/actor-steven-seagal-sued-for-driving-tank-into-arizona-home-killing-puppy/

Ahh, starting to crystallize. Another chuck Norris?
worse..
NO words.
You need to read this…. http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/world/la-us-lawmakers-meet-russian-officials-with-help-from-actor-steven-seagal-20130602,0,512488.story
AND THIS totally ties into all this mess….
http://www.nytimes.com/2013/04/14/world/europe/russia-bars-18-americans-in-tit-for-tat-on-rights.html?_r=0
Issa talked about his friend and David Plouffe hit back. That’s what friends are for! 🙂
Send in Stephen Segal, he has connections?
I loved Plouffe hit back, I think I will borrow it . 🙂
Perhaps, nath, one of Issa’s biggest concerns about AG Holder is that Holder could well have the DOJ and CA AG cooperating on just such an investigation.
happy damn day!
Hmmm….you may very well be on to something here Bob…
A WOMAN’S WEEK AT THE GYM
Dear Diary,
For my birthday this year, I purchased a week of personal training at the local health club.

SATURDAY:
Satan left a message on my answering machine in his grating, shrilly voice wondering why I did not show up today. Just hearing his voice made me want to smash the machine with my planner; however, I lacked the strength to even use the TV remote and ended up catching eleven straight hours of the Weather Channel..

You’re welcome! 😀
I am dying laughing Yardam, just too funny! Thanks for that.
It had me dyin’ over here. 🙂
😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 Well done, Sailor!!!
if God had wanted me to bend over, he would have sprinkled the floor with diamonds!!!.
LOL.
That’s the way it is. Diamonds make wimmin forget everything.

Lol!
🙂
Typo corrected …
Please tell me that Seagel isn’t that two bit sorry action actor from the eighties. If you call what he did acting.
One and the same.
OMG!!!!!!!!!!
Those things are solid Granite!
Great posts, LovelyPlains!
How much does it cost McAss to go on all these foreign trips? Crickets?
LOL @ “McAss…”
🙂 🙂
I hear you:) But look what else was going on….
http://www.pbs.org/wnet/need-to-know/economy/getting-dirty-money-clean/1121/ I guess this was ok though
I don’t even know what to say. That’s one of those things the cynical me has always believed was going on, but i never would have guessed regulators and law enforcement simply looked the other way. I could only think as I read that garbage about the many little small-time drug dealers and users they lock up for decades. Disgusting!
That’s why the RW “holier than thou” attitude pisses me right the hell off.
It’s excellent, VC. Couldn’t agree with you more. BTW, loved the way Elizabeth Jarvis-Shean dissed Chris Mathews 😀 😀 😀 😀 Golden!!!
“I particularly loved the fact that they spoke so naturally. I never get a sense that people are pretending when they speak about the O Admin …”
Felt the same way, VC.
Great collection of toons, lp.
Yes members of Congress (Republicans ) should pay attention, since they are the ones who need some mental help the most.
I am in love with David Plouffe. That is all.
These things will not help the matter.
LMAO! Okay then…here’s a nice tweet from Dan. 🙂
WHOA.
Not yet on the mats hope. I haven’t detected any swooning yet. 😀
There’s a long line ahead of you on that, meta.
Oh, I’m happy to wait my turn. More time to study the simmering intellect.
New post.
