The 11 Biggest Conservative Scandal Flops

    By Ryan Cooper

    ———————————

With most of the right convinced that Barack Obama is the most corrupt president since Nixon, or maybe Harding, or probably Of All Time, conservative media just can’t resist a good scandal. And it’s killing them. From deliberately cooked-up lies, to garbled reporting, to failures of the most basic due diligence, there’s scarcely a breath between one conservative media faceplant and the next. Even Erick Erickson recognizes the damage this behavior is doing to the Republican brand, but so far at least, the right can’t help itself.

So here is a (non-exhaustive) list of the biggest failures of conservative media in the Obama age.

Actually, I don’t think that the right genuinely believes that PBO is the most corrupt President since Nixon. Quite the opposite – they KNOW that he is one of the more honest and morally upright Presidents we’ve had in a long, long time, and that is precisely what bothers them so much about him. They would have liked for him to be corrupt – that would have satisfied them very much, because they would have TRUE reasons to go after him, and the American people would be on board. But that’s not the case so they are increasingly frustrated, and the end result is that they are unhinged and enraged.

I think you have to make a distinction between the leadership and the base. The GOP leadership know that President is indeed one of the more honest and morally upright Presidents ever. But with their constant demagoguery and their lies, they have convinced their base that President Obama is corrupt and evil.

…I often wonder….nasty things were said about PBO in OK….I have several friends who live there…I wonder how many folks have changed their minds…

but I do know that the GOP leadership…appeals to the worse in people….ginning up fear and hatred….

My problem is with the so called mainstream media. People spreading false and manufactured scandals would not get anywhere if the MSM did not aid and abate them, either by failing to point out the lies or by reporting the false scandals as if they were true.

I believe all that you have written to be true and it is truly frightening to watch. Hence I have quit watching all newscasts including PBS. They are no longer any better. And I have quit listening to any politician of any stripe except for President Obama. I appreciate very much the summaries and links found here that keep me informed. It is the only way to stay sane.

Sharon, saving your sanity and energy is an important first step to winning. We have a big job ahead of us in 2014 and we have to focus with laser like precision on getting that job done well. While the right wing and extreme left rants around us, we have to build up our forces, define our strategies and keep our eyes firmly on the prize of redeeming the US Congress with more Democrats and taking back our state houses.

Nail on the head. Very well said. Thank you, Hope. They are very aware that he is no Nixon. Heck Nixon was one of theirs, a very dirty one and they want so badly for PBO to be like him. They can fathom his honesty. It is maddening to them. Excellent point.

I dare say many would like to be like him. They just don’t have the same ingredients.

I agree with you hopefruit2. I always let these media folks, Chris Matthews, Bill Press, CNN, ABC, CBS, MSNBC, NBC, know that my confidence in President Obama has not change one bit.

    • 24 jackiegrumbacher
      June 2, 2013 at 5:26 pm

LH, here’s something else that’s making the Republican knee-jerk Nixon/Watergate comparisons fall flat. Not only do they over play every hand they get to the point of absurdity, they are also painfully out of synch with the times. Nixon hasn’t been in office for FORTY years, which means that for most of today’s electorate he is ancient, stale, irrelevant history. Right wingers nurture their grudges through generations, but most of the rest of America moves on. Today, people see a vibrant, intelligent, hard-working president who talks to them about things that resonate with their lives. What does some weird looking old guy from the past have to do with that? The GOP is embarrassingly inept at communicating with younger people (and by that I mean anyone under 45) and they are now underlining, flagging and just about screaming that ineptness to the world.

      • 25 prettyfoot58
        June 2, 2013 at 5:31 pm

and look at all the time that is being wasted…when our country and our people could be doing so much better….talking about this scandal fakery means that they are not talking about…JOBs…the budget…sequestration….student loans….etc…this is the real scandal…and part two of this …is how the press is not calling them out on it…

        • 26 jackiegrumbacher
          June 2, 2013 at 5:36 pm

That’s the core of it, PF. They’re wasting our time, running out the clock so nothing will get done while PBO is in office and I truly despise them for that. As for the media, they’re like children following the jelly beans down which ever little alley the right wing sends them. It’s long past the era when anyone in the media cared about the truth and had a sense of gravitas. That is the real scandal, and absent the media, it’s up to us to spread the word.

          • 27 prettyfoot58
            June 2, 2013 at 5:46 pm

Maybe we overestimate the role of the press…there was an old clip of Dr King on MTP…in which he was challenged on the correctness of the March on Selma…he was asked if perhaps there was a better way of challenging Jim Crow…

Love that my very modern and unique Ct. grandson invited 2 boys AND 2 girls to go to the pizza/pasta restaurant tonight to celebrate his 10th birthday. I remember boys at that age thinking all girls had cooties. He told his mom that this was his “lunch bunch” from school, his best and most fun friends. Requested a separate table from mom, dad and sis too. He’s quite the kid—in my very objective opinion :)—-he was the one who when he was 5 made his own Obama posters and marched around his neighborhood campaigning. (and just won a big tennis tourney AND just got the lead child role in Hartford theatre’s production of Les Mis) End of brag.

So, now we have House Republucans in Russia, meeting with their Officials. Why? These House Republucans, for example Steve King, are trying to get to the bottom if the Boston Bombings.
The only thing they have done is what we already know, that the information sharing between both countries were inadequate.
But, are these Republicans in Russia beating the war drum, with Russia, or Syria or both?

Rohrabacher said a higher level of cooperation between the United States and Russia is necessary to keep people safe in both countries. “Radical Islam is at our throat in the United States, and is at the throat of the Russian people,” he said.

The congressman repeatedly thanked Seagal, who took credit for arranging the congressmen’s meeting at the FSB, and said it helped avoid the experience of past foreign trips when all of the meetings had been arranged by the U.S. Embassy.

“You know what we got? We got the State Department controlling all the information that we heard,” Rohrabacher said. “You think that’s good for democracy? No way!”

The action movie star escorted the congressmen on a trip Saturday to the site of a terrorist attack in the Caucasus town of Beslan, where militants seized a school in 2004 and took more than 1,000 people hostage, most of them children. More than 330 hostages died, most of them when federal troops stormed the school.

Seagal had invited the delegation to visit Chechnya, but the trip was called off in part because U.S. House rules would have prevented the congressmen from flying on his private plane, Rohrabacher said.

The Kremlin has given Kadyrov lavish funding and political carte blanche to fight terrorism since he came to power in 2005. Activists accuse him and his feared security forces of staggering abuses, including torture, kidnappings and murder.

“All these accusations are thrown around,” said Seagal, who was given a lavish welcome in Kadyrov’s palace. “Is there any evidence? Has he been indicted?”

AND THIS totally ties into all this mess….

          http://www.nytimes.com/2013/04/14/world/europe/russia-bars-18-americans-in-tit-for-tat-on-rights.html?_r=0

The diplomatic tussle comes after a year of deepening strains between Russia and the United States, and on the eve of a visit by President Obama’s national security adviser, Tom Donilon. The Obama administration has sought Russian cooperation in crises in Syria and North Korea, and recently decided to scale back plans for a missile defense system in Europe, an irritant to Russia. But Mr. Putin attributes a wave of protests against his government to Western interference in domestic affairs, and is increasingly hostile to American criticism of his human rights record.

The Kremlin has made no comment since Friday, when the Obama administration announced that it had penalized about two dozen Russians, ordering their assets in the United States frozen and denying them entry to the country. There were no high-ranking officials among the 18 names made public on Friday, but a handful of other names are on a classified list — among them the Kremlin-allied leader of Chechnya, Ramzan A. Kadyrov, according to people briefed on the matter.

Mr. Kadyrov mocked the measure on Saturday in remarks to journalists, telling Interfax that he was glad to be on the list.

“I am proud that I am Russian, proud that I am unpleasant for America, because they are involved in outrages all over the world,” he said. “I love my homeland, and as I said, even if I were not on the list, even in that case I would not buy a ticket to America.”

Mr. Kadyrov is a close ally of Mr. Putin’s, and his reported inclusion on the classified list led the headlines in Russia on Saturday. With the Kremlin’s backing, Mr. Kadyrov has used harsh methods to suppress a separatist insurgency in the volatile southern region he leads. The public list of those Russians to be penalized included a man accused of gunning down one of Mr. Kadyrov’s former bodyguards who was providing evidence for a case against Mr. Kadyrov in the European Court of Human Rights.

This Kadyrov guy is the one that Seagal has a fondness for…and connections with (see above snippet) Something nefarious is going on here.

Thanks Bob for re-tweeting David Plouffe’s tweet. Many of us here in California are very much aware of Darrell Issa’s criminal background that foiled his plan to run for Governor after he successfully funded the re-call of Gov. Gray Davis, a recall that was based on manufactured lies as well as ENRON’s manipulation of the CA energy. Just as Issa was gearing up to run for Governor, reports surfaced about his criminal background that David Plouffe alluded to and he quit the race in tears. Issa’s criminal background should be highlighted every time the MSM try to push his BS investigations as if they were legitimate. What we need is an in-depth investigation, and an expose, of Issa’s criminal background. That way the American people can decide who to trust: President Obama or Darrell Issa.

A WOMAN’S WEEK AT THE GYM

    Dear Diary,
For my birthday this year, I purchased a week of personal training at the local health club. Although I am still in great shape since being a high school football cheerleader 43 years ago, I decided it would be a good idea to go ahead and give it a try.

I called the club and made my reservations with a personal trainer named Christo, who identified himself as a 26-year-old aerobics instructor and model for athletic clothing and swim wear.

Friends seemed pleased with my enthusiasm to get started! The club encouraged me to keep a diary to chart my progress.
    ________________________________
    MONDAY:
Started my day at 6:00 am. Tough to get out of bed, but found it was well worth it when I arrived at the health club to find Christo waiting for me. He is something of a Greek god– with blond hair, dancing eyes, and a dazzling white smile. Woo Hoo!!

Christo gave me a tour and showed me the machines.. I enjoyed watching the skillful way in which he conducted his aerobics class after my workout today. Very inspiring!

Christo was encouraging as I did my sit-ups, although my gut was already aching from holding it in the whole time he was around.

This is going to be a FANTASTIC week!!
    ________________________________
    TUESDAY:
I drank a whole pot of coffee, but I finally made it out the door. Christo made me lie on my back and push a heavy iron bar into the air then he put weights on it! My legs were a little wobbly on the treadmill, but I made the full mile. His rewarding smile made it all worthwhile. I feel GREAT! It’s a whole new life for me.
    _______________________________
    WEDNESDAY:
The only way I can brush my teeth is by laying the toothbrush on the counter and moving my mouth back and forth over it. I believe I have a hernia in both pectorals. Driving was OK as long as I didn’t try to steer or stop. I parked on top of a GEO in the club parking lot.
Christo was impatient with me, insisting that my screams bothered other club members. His voice is a little too perky for that early in the morning and when he scolds, he gets this nasally whine that is VERY annoying.
My chest hurt when I got on the treadmill, so Christo put me on the stair monster. Why anyone would invent a machine to simulate an activity rendered obsolete by elevators? Christo told me it would help me get in shape and enjoy life. He said some other crap too.
    _______________________________
    THURSDAY:
Jerk head was waiting for me with his vampire-like teeth exposed as his thin, cruel lips were pulled back in a full snarl. I couldn’t help being a half an hour late– it took me that long to tie my shoes.
He took me to work out with dumbbells. When he was not looking, I ran and hid in the restroom. He sent some skinny girl to find me.
Then, as punishment, he put me on the rowing machine– which I sank.
    _________________________________
    FRIDAY:
I hate that Christo more than any human being has ever hated any other human being in the history of the world. Stupid, skinny, anemic, anorexic, little aerobic instructor. If there was a part of my body I could move without unbearable pain, I would beat him with it.
Christo wanted me to work on my triceps. I don’t have any triceps! And if you don’t want dents in the floor, don’t hand me the stupid barbells or anything that weighs more than a sandwich.
The treadmill flung me off and I landed on a health and nutrition teacher. Why couldn’t it have been someone softer, like the drama coach or the choir director?
    ________________________________
    SATURDAY:
Satan left a message on my answering machine in his grating, shrilly voice wondering why I did not show up today. Just hearing his voice made me want to smash the machine with my planner; however, I lacked the strength to even use the TV remote and ended up catching eleven straight hours of the Weather Channel..
    ________________________________
    SUNDAY:
I’m having the Church van pick me up for services today so I can go and thank GOD that this week is over. I will also pray that next year my husband will choose a gift for me that is fun– like a root canal or a hysterectomy. I still say if God had wanted me to bend over, he would have sprinkled the floor with diamonds!!!

There’s no rest for the weary. These people are amazing. The projects and initiatives that are taking place on a daily basis under the radar are just remarkable. Our energizer bunny president and his administration just keep going and going and going. It’s a tremendous source of comfort to me that they just keep doing their jobs in the midst of all of the noise and obstruction coming from the Republican Party. They are truly solid as a rock. Or should I say solid as BARACK!

So now they want to make a big deal out of the costs of IRS conferences over a three year period…$50 million. Strikes me that’s the same amount they’ve wasted repealing ObamaCare. Anyone know where to find figures for past years?

Well I must say if you haven’t already watched that ‘Life inside the White House’ video that UTAL shared in today’s Rise & Shine you should do so now (Alright. Okay. Do so before you go to bed). I usually hesitate when videos are longer than 10 mins (short attention span, don’t you know) so I kept putting this one off, then decided to watch 10-15 mins while catching up on the comments I missed here. I skipped the intro, started in with Jon F at about the 20 minute mark and was hooked!! I was so enthralled I never bothered to catch up with comments. All four speakers gave awesome testimonies – you have to listen for yourself if you haven’t yet!

It’s excellent, VC. Couldn’t agree with you more. BTW, loved the way Elizabeth Jarvis-Shean dissed Chris Mathews 😀 😀 😀 😀 Golden!!!

You noticed, eh? I love all the others joining in with the fact that even then she was generous with the # of viewers she ascribed to Tweety. 😉

Truth is, apart from Jon F I didn’t know anyone’s name ( because I skipped the very beginning) but I sure loved what they had to say. I particularly loved the fact that they spoke so naturally. I never get a sense that people are pretending when they speak about the O Admin, and I always get the idea that they a) respect the Pres and his family, and b) had a terrific experience working with him.

Yes members of Congress (Republicans ) should pay attention, since they are the ones who need some mental help the most.

OMG. My daughter just finished watching Game of Thrones and I thought she was having sensory overload! She was wailing and screaming and had to leave the house to compose herself…
