Indian-American Srikanth Srinivasan Thursday scripted history after he was confirmed as the first South Asian judge to America’s second highest court.
Described as “trailblazer” by US President Barack Obama [ Images ], Chandigarh-born Srinivasan’s nomination to the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit was unanimously approved by the Senate with 97 voting in favour.
With Senate confirmation, 46-year-old Srinivasan has become the first Indian-American to be appointed to the top American court.
He was first nominated by Obama on June 11, 2012. On January 2, 2013, his nomination was returned to the president, due to the sine die adjournment of the Senate. On January 3, 2013, Obama re-nominated him for the same office.
Excellent news AMK. Almost two damn years those mofo jackwagons, held this man’s nomination up. Glad the Prez stuck to his guns and simply re-nominated him AGAIN. See AMK? There are some lawyers who are worthy and do good work! 🙂 😉
I am so proud of my President! All he has done is nominate the best judges and justices, regardless of their ethnic/racial/gender/sexual orientation, backgrounds. Srikanth Srinivasan is an excellent choice.
THAT was a speech. Came in late and just watched it thanks to Chipsticks as usual for making everything so easy. I will never understand the people who don’t appreciate this President. But in the end I think I just feel sorry for them. Look at what they’re missing. It’s good to know that a truly great human being with a conscience is in charge. What the hell are we going to do when he’s no longer the President? He’s the stuff of legend.
So much in that speech I liked. As much as I didn’t like the interruption by the heckler, the President handled it so well and with grace.
So happy the war is coming to an end.
Also found time to read about Obamacare insurance exchange rates in California being lower than expected. (I’m not in Calif. but see it as a sign of more good things to come) Oh happy day!
Late night thoughts….. I was so impressed by my beloved president today. So inspired and so proud. Thankfully, I could “interact” (mostly vicariously) with the TOD family here – and I could get a reasoned, appreciative analysis from Lawrence O’Donnell. But, other than my husband, there were few other outlets for sharing my enthusiasm. Surely tonight, I thought, Hayes and Maddow would be thrilled. But, no. It is never enough (same with a front-page poster on DK. Then I realized the emoprogs were just like the Code Pink lady. The president is moves in the direction they prefer, but it is never enough. One might think the CP lady would be grateful for PBO’s efforts, but she screams. The emoprogs were the same, though they wouldn’t deign to scream. They just sit wrapped in their own self-righteous superiority and malign the president. The CD lady yelled that he was commander-in-chief so he can close Gitmo. That’s just how the emoprogs acted. Like, okay, he’s president so he can and should do….. and list THEIR agenda, seemingly with no more willingness to compromise than the Tea Partiers. PBO is more than earning his Peace Prize!
What a day! I’m going to bed, but just wanted to poke in and say that the speech that President Obama made today will be one for the history books. Heckler or not, it was a thoughtful, long term, moral and values laden speech that was thought provoking and definitely adult conversation. I am so appreciative for this President. Every. Single. Day.
Bigelow Aerospace LLC, a maker of inflatable space habitats, will study the possible return of men to the moon as part of an agreement with NASA that may lead to more public-private partnerships for exploration.
The company said it will identify options for government and private investments to advance human space exploration beyond low-Earth orbit, or more than 1,200 miles (1,900 kilometers) from Earth’s surface. Las Vegas-based Bigelow Aerospace won’t be paid for work that is scheduled to be completed this year.
A lunar base will be part of the study announced today by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, though the space agency isn’t planning to fund a moon mission. NASA instead intends to focus on landing humans on an asteroid by 2021.
It’s quiet out here tonight. I just sent the link of the President’ s masterful speech PLUS the text of his speech (Thanks Miz Chips!!!) to a friend who is always doing the “Obama coulda/shoulda” crap and “TEH DRONEZ” crap with me, politely telling him to STFU and have a seat.
If there are any So CAL TOD Peeps still around, OFA-CA is having a reception/grassroots event next Tuesday, May 28, 2013 from 7 – 9 pm at the Bhudda Belly restaurant in Los Angeles – 7475 Beverly Boulevard. The special guest speaker at the event will be Buffy Wicks who served in the White House as the Deputy Director of the Office of Public Engagement after being the Missouri State Director on the 2008 campaign. For the 2012 campaign, she was the National Operation Vote Director, spearheading outreach to crucial constituencies who helped re-elect the President. RSVP for the event at barackobama.com/events as they are trying to get an accurate head count as possible. Each state is also getting their own OFA grassroots fundraising page. LL, you never cease to amaze with the musical selections. Art Rock? Who’d a thunk? 🙂 I do like that 3rd selection “First Breath After Coma”.. Nite all. Fais de beaux rêves mes TOD peeps.
Thank you LL – very much enjoy ‘Explosions in the sky’!
Mark your calendars, everyone, and share 23 May 2013 with everyone you know because it is a historic day for America, perhaps one of the most significant in our entire history.
TY Nobelist #PBO for 23May2013, the day you ended the #NEOCONSTERS curse of Perpetual War; their & the #EMOPROGS worst nightmare. @VP@vj44
Marine Private First Class Delmar Walter Westerman (July 10, 1924 – February 22, 1945) Killed in Action at Iwo Jima
Stationed with 3rd Battalion 28th Marines 5th Division
Private Westerman’s first field of combat was at Iwo Jima, where Marine Private First Class Delmar Walter Westerman was wounded on February 21, 1945, while in action fighting for Mount Suribachi. He was immediately evacuated to a hospital ship where he died on February 22. He was given a military burial at sea.
He received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, the Victory Medal, and the Purple Heart, all posthumously. Delmar Walter Westerman was a great Marine who died fighting for his country. He will always be remembered as a brave man who sacrificed his life for the United States.
Delmar was my first cousin. Mount Suribachi is where the iconic photo of the Mariens was taken.
Hurricane season of 2005…Rita, Katrina and WILMA! Under Bush….we lost a lot during 2005. FEMA was a joke! Too much to go into but, looks much better now
I’m sorry, that’s too bad. I know of Rita and Katrina as much as someone can who wasn’t there, but I’ll have to google Wilma. They were all under W? That’s almost as bad as the hurricane, but more a joke. What did you think of Red Cross? Do you still live in same area? Hope your skies are sunny and blue this week-end. 🙂
Apparently Huffpoop is now demanding that Eric Holder GO AWAY!! Lmao. They’ve had a headline up for at least 12 hours shouting “Time to go” because Holder signed off on the dreaded AP search. I’m starting to get really tired of the endless whining in the media about the AP investigation. They are only proving that they are incapable of covering a story about themselves (the media) with any objectivity whatsoever.
The Emos have been demanding that Holder must go since he was confirmed in office. Bil Pess leads the charge. It is funny how none of these folks talk about all of the positive things which he has done. They are so narrow minded and only look at their little interests. They never forgave him for not putting everyone in the Bush administration in jail while the economy was literally falling off a cliff. They are very selfish.
If I remember correctly t was the same HuffnPuff that had screaming headlines a few yrs ago: “GEITHNER SHOULD RESIGN!!!!!” and “JOE BIDEN SHOULD RESIGN!!!!” How did that work out for them?
Good Morning……On a “vacation” weekend for a lot of us, PBO doesn’t get long weekend vacations….Not sure about Sat…sure hope he gets to at least sleep late and play golf…but Sunday…travel to Oklahoma…Monday…lay wreaths………..and if he is so lucky to find a few hours to relax and play golf(notice they don’t criticize him if he plays basketball, wonder why?,, ; ^ )…)….well, the world is going to come to an end b/c the black man dared to use golf clubs rather than carry the bag…..they might as well shut down Camp David b/c he never gets to go there.
When I used to watch Morning Joke, most of the time she sits up there like some airhead Miss America, allowing the men to talk all over her. Unless she has change, I no longer watch Morning Joke, it’s been years.
She has no core belief – as Linda said, she sways with the wind and will sell herself to the highest bidder. MSNBC and Morning Joke (the bully) LOVE her for that reason.
Of the morning shows the only one who mention alittle bit about POTUS speech yesterday was CBS, and they had that old guy Bob Schieffer who host Face the Nation spreading his lies about the speech. Trying to put it in a negative light. We know most of the media folks are piss off with the administration about the AP story.
The media has yet to accept that their favorability with the public ranks along with Congress, in the under 20%, yet they set themselves up as arbiters of everyone else.
Actually, people just don’t care about the AP business. Most of us think these press people have no business spewing classified material to the detriment of our security. They keep harping on that to their even lower ratings.
They think they are the center of the universe…..more ink has been spilled on this subject than on any other, and the response from the American public is a big YAWN!
Much more important to us is the end of war, and no more people sent to die in other parts of the world, for no defined reason.
I agree Carolyn, which is why I rarely watch MSNbC anymore. I used to watch it regularly, starting with Keith Olberman, then Rachel Maddow… Now the only sane one is Lawrence O’Donnell (I loved his coverage of the President’s speech with the amazing Joy Reid). I also like Martin Bashir and Rev Al, but am working during their shows, so don’t get to see them that often. I find, at work, no one watches the news on TV anymore. They are just too busy.
I was born and raised in one of the poorest neighborhoods in Miami Florida, but at no point did I lose my humanity. How could a person want his fellow man to go without health care? How could a person not want his fellow man to be able to eat when he is hungry? I just don’t understand how someone could be okay with people starving or someone being homeless or someone being sick.
Don, I don’t get it either. But these Republicans fine it easy to stomp on the poor and the needy, all the while taking care of the rich and powerful. But the one you hear hollowing about religious the loudest are the Republicans. But I do recall Jesus saying take care of the poor, for they will always be with you. He didn’t say take care of the rich.
anniebella, just tell me what is the end-game with these people? I’m serious, what is the end-game? Take out the religious aspect for a moment and tell me what these people gain by denying people their basic needs.
Meeka was a woman that poised on a magazine cover with her legs cocked open, and that is what she is. She does not offer anything of substance to the show; her only job is to ridicule Joe for eating Dunkin Donuts. The next time she says something intelligent will be the first time she’s said something intelligent.
WASHINGTON — U.S. orders for long-lasting manufactured goods rebounded in April, buoyed by more demand for military and civilian aircraft and an increase in business investment.
The Commerce Department says durable goods orders rose 3.3 percent last month after a 5.9 decline in March.
And a measure of business investment plans increased 1.2 percent after a revised 0.9 percent gain in March. Business ordered more machinery, computers and electronics last month.
More spending by businesses could ease fears that companies are worried about slower global growth and deep cuts in U.S. federal spending.
Durable goods are items expected to last at least three years.
Hi fellow TODers,
Today is a special day for me ! It’s my Birthday !!!!! I officially join FLOTUS in the countdown to the big 5-0 next year. I’m not as svelte as her though. But it’s a goal to be in my best health and physical shape for that milestone. Also going through major professional changes. Big challenge but hey nothing ventured nothing gained. So whip out your bubblies at the appropriate time of day and join me in cheer!! 😆 : lol:
Happy Birthday, zizi!!!! It must be early because I read, ” whip out your bubbies at the appropriate time..” I thought. omg…zizi is a wild and crazy person…maybe that’s a zizi tradition? Who am I to say! Whatever makes you happy on any given day is ok with me!! Then I checked again 🙂 Bubbies will stay inside, and maybe Chips can pop the cork on some bubbly:) Have a great day!!!
Lets be happy all day in honor of zizi2? Is there a zizi? I posted a Happy day poster at about 6am. New it was your day! 😆
Are you fussy about cakes, cupcakes, something unusual?

“NJ: Caramel-colored rubbing alcohol sold as scotch”
—–
TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — At one bar, a mixture that included rubbing alcohol and caramel coloring was sold as scotch. In another, premium liquor bottles were refilled with water — and apparently not even clean water at that.
State officials provided those new details Thursday on raids they conducted a day earlier as part of a yearlong investigation dubbed Operation Swill.
Twenty-nine New Jersey bars and restaurants, including 13 TGI Fridays, were accused of substituting cheap booze — or worse — for the good stuff while charging premium prices.
A new Post/ABC News poll suggests that even Republican voters are turning on austerity and the fiscal status quo. It finds that among overall Americans, 56 percent disapprove of the sequester cuts, and among Republicans, 54 percent disapprove of them. Only 39 percent of Republicans approve. While majorities still say they have not personally felt the cuts, ABC News notes that the poll also finds that the number who have felt them is rising, and among those people, economic pessimism runs stronger.
The sequester, of course, is the result of Congress’ inability to reach a fiscal deal. The Tea Party brigade — with the apparent support of GOP leader Mitch McConnell — won’t even allow Congress to enter into fiscal discussions unless it is established beforehand that raising the debt limit must require 60 votes in the Senate.
Hello

Well the last time I check, Huff Puff didn’t hire AG Holder. The one who need to go is Huff Puff.
AG Eric Holder should stay. He is doing a darn outstanding job.
Huff Puff has been taken over by right wing nut jobs.
That figures. I stop going there long ago.

Stay forty-nine forever! This year I turned thirty-nine. I’m the same age as my oldest son. We’ll be thirty-nine for as long as Jack Benny!
O/T: This is scary. People have no qualms about the harm they may cause to others to make a profit.
