One of my patrons told me that I was a “softie”, and I needed to get used to the pain and misery of life.
Oh, I’m quite used to life’s pain and misery. One of the reasons I write, to lay them bare. But when I become “hard”, I may as well put a bullet in my head, because I’ve stopped being human.
I truly envy anyone who feels little or no pain in the face of the stuff life throws at us, but it just means they’re most probably incapable of experiencing the joy it throws at us too. So, together, we’ll try to get through the first, and cherish the second.
Once again, teachers showing their courage and love of their students; neighbors running toward the rubble to try to help others …. and a President who only inspires more of us to be just as courageous and always honors those who are.
We know America’s gravest enemy – the plutocrats and those that serve them and their greed.
Poor Oklahoma. My heart goes out to the victims of this storm. My girlfrind’s family lives there. She has heard from everyone and they are safe. He friend’s home is totally reduced to sticks.
I’ve had the same thought, amk. The teachers are selfless, and many have put their lives on the line to protect the children – in crisis after crisis. Thank heavens for the teachers. And shame on the GOP.
Carol, I was thinking of just that tune and agree. I think our dear LL was just making the point that the thread needed to be focused on reaching out to those in need of our help and honoring the brave folk who, once again, placed their lives on the line to save children, something the GOP has ZERO capacity.
Not a night for music, but I thought this might fit. It is one of my favorite hymns and the story behind it is touching too. I apologize for the ad but you can hit skip after a couple of seconds.
I grew up in the ’50s watching Mahalia Jackson on my grandmother’s first black and white TV. Can still see my Mother in her rocking chair, listening to this music, hushing us, when we walked to my grandmother’s house to watch. Mahalia’s voice was a comfort, even to me at a very young age. She and Kate Smith (When the Moon Comes over the Mountain) were two of the only women singers on TV back then, at least that I recall. So, thanks for the memories.
It was written by a man whose wife and 2 daughters were lost in a shipwreck coming back from England. He made the crossing from the U.S, to England (possibly for a memorial service) and wrote this hymn as he approached the spot where the ship sank.
Just got back from celebrating my sweet nephew’s elementary school promotion ceremony this evening. It was so exhilarating to see those beautiful kids, their families and teachers sharing in such a joyous occasion.
Then to come home and see the devastation in Oklahoma of an elementary school with 51 lost, including some little ones confirmed gone and dozens missing. I feel guilty for being so happy today while that was going on in that little town. My heart goes out to the families and I pray the remaining children are found. Thank goodness we have such tremendous leadership in our President and Vice President, who have moved with the appropriate sense of urgency to get assistance to those in need. Good bless the people of Moore, OK.
That photo of the teacher hugging his rescued student goes beyond all ideology, all red state/blue state crap and gets to the heart of what PBO said in 2004–when we are at our best, we are all in this together, united as a people and as a country. Those who are sick and twisted enough to turn tragedies of human devastation into political theater (I’m looking at you, Sen. Coburn and you, Eric Cantor) are not only unfit to govern, they are not worthy enough to tie the shoes of that teacher and his student.
In times of despair, people pull together. If only Washington could reach a point of despair. Then, maybe then they will see the need to pull together as these amazing people have done.
Some members of Congress still won’t listen to the scientific consensus on #climate change. Call these deniers out: OFA.BO/3j7EhL— Barack Obama (@BarackObama) May 20, 2013
Prayers to the people in the path of tornados tonight and to the men, women and children of Moore, OK. Thank God that PBO is President and that with so many natural disasters since his presidency the American people are in good hands. Their Government will help them because he cares about ALL Americans. Lord please give the teachers, fire fighters, police and all first responders the strength, calm, and your protection as they risk their lives for the people in their community.
Beautifully said, jojothecat! I hope this horrific day will teach us a lesson to stop fussing about small things as if they were a matter of life and death. Blessed are the people who chose to be teachers, cops, firefighters, doctors, nurses and serve in the national guards. Just imagine where we would be without them on a day like this.
Thank you jojo and nath for your beautiful words. I still count it a total blessing to have taught for thirty-six years and throughout those years of ‘loving goodness of service,’ I placed my students first. I know it was a grace given to me beyond my understanding.
I give thanksgiving for all those wonderful and loving teachers there in Moore. ((((((((((( We love our teachers))))))))))) HZ
“We love our teachers….” Thank you HZ! You may have retired, but you are still a teacher to many of us at TOD! In my humble opinion, no one is as important to any community as is a good teacher. From all the words of wisdom you share with us at TOD community, I consider you a Master Teacher.
Ok all, I have an early morning tomorrow, as it’s election day in L.A. and I have to open the library early for a polling station. I have a new essay ready for after Rise & Shine. Sleep well, all.
Absolutely horrific, Carol! Just imagine the heartache of their parents. Speaking from experience, the worst pain for a parent is losing a child. It’s so unnatural!
It is horrible, nathkatun, just horrible. There’s just no words adequate for that kind of pain. And these are poor people who have lost everything, just everything.
(((((((((((((((((((( Let them flow as you need to, Nath.))))))))))))))))))))))))) Yours may mingle in with those parents who will never see their young sons and young daughters shed another tear. The sweetness of your emotions hopefully will be comfort energy in the space of those precious parents in Moore, OK., tonight.HZ
Prayers, moments of meditational thoughts, beautiful music, all will help so many of us to be able to put our energy and power for each family in Moore.
My heart goes out to the teachers who again showed that very special gift of loving for the professional that touches a nation again in time of pain. Also, I want to give thanks for our President and his team. I feel that he will do everything that is in his power to make all of the necessary aid that is needed there in the state.
When we collectively say our prayers, light our candles, play our songs, and just speak out words of strength, hope, provisions to be made, as much safety for each person who is going through these times that are just so severe for their minds to deal with righ now.
I pray for the comfort of the little ones.
I pray for the strength of each family to move with faith
I pray for the community to reach out for each others strength as much as possible.
I pray that the nation will do whatever is possible to help in anyway that we can.
I pray for the seniors and the sick patients in the hospital to be comforted.
I pray for strength, safety, hope, faith, calmness, and compassion to go out to all of our first responders.
I pray that we will just try to give out good energy in our space which will move towards POB.
I pray for each TODer here who might have family and friends in Moore or in the surrounding state to be comforted by our TOD Family. That is how POB would have us do it. These are our brothers and sisters also. ()HZ
News reporter just told us that one five year old who was thought to be missing, has been found. A piece of good news. Thank you for all your prayers. The most difficult part is all the children fatalities and injuries. It’s amazing the strength and compassion I’ve felt today on this blog. Thank you, all of you. I read for a while, but came back, and wanted to thank all of you again.
Nath, I hope that someone’s heart will receive a little comfort tonight in OK., because of all of our prayer, thoughts of goodness, and actions of giving with a kind and gentle heart to our brothers and sisters who are in need in OK.
Yes, jojo. I really do believe that. We may not understand everything, but we Can Help to make the healing of the pain tonight to ease up a little. That is that strength God will give us, I do believe. I know we can do that along with our beautiful President. We Will.HZ

There is a song by the Five Blind Boys of Alabama I wish someone could post up here and I want to dedicate it to the people of Oklahoma. Name of the song is “You’ll Never Walk Alone”. I’m not good at posting things like that, so I would appreciate it if some one could.
Anniebella, thanks for asking. Meta, thanks for finding it. My eyes are swollen, but this one is one that I sing after my quiet-time praying for POB. I sing this one before or after meditating and praying for him and his Administration. So this is such a collective energy moment for those of us here in our TOD Family. See when we come together(which we always do) our collective thoughts, prayers, moments of quietness, moments of tears, always bring us closer to be the comforters we need to be for others and each others.

Very sad.
Prayers for Oklahoma
So sad 😦
Was just coming on to see if I needed to post this. Thanks, Chips.
Needless to say, no music post tonight.
Thanks a million LL, hope you’re okay with me posting it, last one was getting busy. You, sir, are the best. Thank you again.

Seems like we are.
Such a moving photo.
Prayers to all at this time of need.
Congrats on 1st Mary.
Chips, like what you’ve done with scrolling tweets in the sidebar!

Bob, we just need to hope the scrolling tweets don’t leave the blog in ashes 😕
Well, I’ll keep my cyber fire extinguisher handy 😀 😀 😀
I don’t call you Wise Bob for nothing!

Poor Oklahoma. My heart goes out to the victims of this storm. My girlfrind’s family lives there. She has heard from everyone and they are safe. He friend’s home is totally reduced to sticks.
As a son of a great teacher, I loathe the rethugs for their cheap lies about teachers.
One of the mystifying thing about the rethugs hatred of teachers is the fact most of them are probably where they are because of teachers.
Amen, nath!!!!!!HZ
I’ve had the same thought, amk. The teachers are selfless, and many have put their lives on the line to protect the children – in crisis after crisis. Thank heavens for the teachers. And shame on the GOP.
And just so everyone knows, our Chips added that heartrending picture of the teacher with his student to my post. So it’s a joint project.
You and Chips are a great team, LL!!!
This song just occurred to me:
We don’t have to avoid music altogether. There are some songs that are comforting in times of trouble, and we can post those.
Carol, I was thinking of just that tune and agree. I think our dear LL was just making the point that the thread needed to be focused on reaching out to those in need of our help and honoring the brave folk who, once again, placed their lives on the line to save children, something the GOP has ZERO capacity.
Thank you for this …

Thanks, I never have words for times like this.
What was that Mitt Romney said that we didn’t need anymore teachers, policemen and firefighters.
He also thinks things made out of bricks and mortar and spreadsheets and bottom lines are “people.”
Thank God he’s gone from the national scene. I remember a time when I thought he’d never leave.
Not a night for music, but I thought this might fit. It is one of my favorite hymns and the story behind it is touching too. I apologize for the ad but you can hit skip after a couple of seconds.
Thanks Maryl1 for sharing this. I actually think we need some music to ease the tremendous pain about this horrendous day.

Don’t feel guilty, because that’s the circle of life, and congrats to your nephew. But we’re all feeling sad, that’s for sure.
Oh man, I didn’t even know about this until I got here to TOD.
Precious Lord, I love that song!
Thanks Dudette for sharing this. As I said on a previous thread, it’s the quickest way to donate to Red Cross.
The core question ….

Because they are jerks; Bob. Got up for a middle of the night treat; thanks Liberal Librarian and TODers

Well said, JackieG.
Turn the volume down on the video time lapse………..but this gives some shocking perspective via the Smithsonian.

Republicans still leaking this shit, while we have people in Oklahoma dying ?
Man, are they nasty!
Who cares! As far as I am concerned, Republicans, The Washington Post, and most of the MSM are garbage.

Once again, PBO is going to have to make another trip to the midwest, survey damage and be Consoler-in-Chief to the poor victims and their loved ones.
Fifty-one confirmed fatalities at this hour. Twenty children.
Not the Blind Boys Version: But Elvis is good in a pinch.
Heard parents telling how teachers saved children with one child confirming he just had a scratch. They lifted parts of a wall of him.
Sorry for that double post. This is the first time I’ve ever tried embedding videos in a post before: but here’s another good song:
Elvis is worth a learning mistake. . . 😉
I just know that republicans are going to block disaster aid on this. I hope not but I have a fear that their will be a congressional deadlock.
Someone posted above that Tom Coburn is already making noises about needing offsets to aid the people of Oklahoma.
These are his constituents though!
Heartless bugger!
Hard to believe such people exist!

Good night, DF.
G’Night. . .

Got food poisoning the other day. It was the worst feeling I had in a long time. It was my fault though for under cooking sausage.
Jeff – I had food poisoning several years ago. I feel for you. Really painful. I hope you feel better, since you said it happened a few days ago. I’m careful about eating Chinese food from new places to this day!
it happened yesterday. It was the worse feeling in the world.
Feel better, Jeff. Drink lots of water. Take it easy.

Yikes – so terrible! Glad he’s doing better. It’s scary that you can pretty much get food poisoning from anything.
isn’t it? i don’t remember this being such a problem in years past, but maybe i was just lucky.
