I love this woman. My husband of 45 years is magnificent, but hers”s truly awesome! (Example: I bought him a Rolex on our 25th (on a payment plan), I got dinner at Richie’s Diner – yep, just like it sounds). I still treasure him and always will for putting up with me and my, ahem, idiosyncrasies. Go Michelle, you got the gold ring at the carnival! (And I am still wearing my grandmother’s plain gold band – an honor, but a diamond would be relish)!

First Lady gave some good tough advice, as only she could—–to stop aspiring to be a “baller or a rapper”—–and stop the accusations of “acting white” if you have a book in your hand.

To Japa and JOB, here is my question: What purpose do the so called mainstream media serve? For example, did CNN even bother to do research before writing their “Marines holding umbrellas ‘extremely rare.'” headline?

          • 40 jacquelineoboomer
            May 17, 2013 at 9:13 pm

Actually, on the latter question, CNN’s article quoted the reason we’ve heard (trouble saluting) and may have had more one-liner “research” to it, and some worthless quote, ho-hum, but my problem was their freakin’ headline … on top of such a ridiculously unimportant topic with such a racist edge. Who cares how rare it is? It isn’t rare, turns out, based on all the photos we’ve seen today of umbrellas being held over the heads of other (white) Presidents, but who cares?

My bottom line: if the Marines in question are holding an umbrella for the Commander in Chief and his guest, NOBODY’S GOING TO BE ASKING THEM TO SALUTE AT THE SAME TIME, bigots!

As everyone says, this is all a distraction, meant to demean President Obama, but – nevertheless – they must be called out, each and every time.

And to your bottom line, nathk, what purpose do the so called MSM serve? NONE at this point in time.

      The history of the umbrella

… reliefs and pictures from Ancient Mesopotamia and Egypt show slaves holding an umbrella … over the monarch’s or God’s head in a procession …

CNN still trying to cater to the KKK-set. The racist underpinnings of the MSM/GOP’s “problem” with PBO become more evident every day.

meta – If I were you, I’d gather up your friends and go out to dinner – and put this out of your mind! (When I googled to find photos of others holding umbrellas for past Presidents, to get behind all of the current UmbrellaGate slanders, I found Pres. Obama has had an umbrella held for him once or twice before and there are a gazillion racist comments on various websites about it. Maybe we should post all of Chips’ photos of the President giving whole speeches in the rain without cover!) Anyway, don’t pay attention to any of this – just enjoy your evening, my friend!

          May 17, 2013 at 5:53 pm

Those who react negatively to seeing someone hold an umbrella for PBO are lost causes. They never were and never will be reachable and it is a waste of time and engery to even think of them. They are, thankfully, a dying breed. The MSM is going over the top with its anti-Obama bias and is turning off large swaths of the public (just like they did during the 2012 campaign). The “Tea Party” group created by and for corporate interests. They make alot of noise, but don’t have the numbers (that is why they have to engage in voter suppression and gerrymandering to win elections).

Empty vessel makes the loudest noise. Our national media gravitates to the Loudest bunch……the very reason Nixon told Roger Ailes to develop a Rightwing Media……..Rush started on the radio and once the Fairness Doctrine was repealed, today, we have 1300 talk hate radio…….USA has never been the same. In the 1930/1940……..This nation rejected Propaganda from the late Rev Fr Charles Coughlin. Now Propaganda is what the right uses to shut the media up and to control the narrative…….the nation be screwed. That is their attitude.

I agree that Democrats must vote in the 2014 midterms and not be swayed by the MSM’s pro-GOP propaganda (like many were in 2010). If all the GOP has is its base, they will lose, so long as Democrats vote (2008 and 2012 proves this fact). The GOP/MSM is preaching to the right wing choir, that is why these fake scandals are creating a collective yawn among the general population. As the MSM continues to destroy its standing among the public and more and more people ignore MSM pundits (left, right and center), the Democrats have a good chance of defeating the GOP in 2014. Hopefully 2010 has taught Democratic voters the lesson that not voting doesn’t teach PBO a lesson, not voting gets Republicans elected and harms the country.

  16. May 17, 2013 at 5:33 pm

We listened to the Republicans lie about altered talking points for months. In the end, they were the ones who altered documents. We should demand to know who? We should be tweeting, emailing and calling… demanding to know who altered White House communications.

Meta, you must be a fellow Californian who lived under Ronald Reagan when he was Governor. By the way, he left the state in a financial mess and it was the young and frugal Jerry Brown who cleaned up the mess in his first round as Governor. Now it is the elder Jerry Brown who is once again cleaning up the mess left by another B movie actor who become the Republican governor of California.

FYI – promoted tweets on twitter are about $200,000/day. This is what these RWNJ morons think will help them gain traction in social media. BWWAAHHAAAAA!

    • May 17, 2013 at 5:41 pm

Hold on. That price is for promoted trends……Let’s see if I can find the correct price for promoted tweets.

      • May 17, 2013 at 5:46 pm

Hmmm, the only thing I can find is this:

“Promoted tweets use cost-per-click pricing and Twitter recommends $.50 to at least max of $1.50.”

        Not sure how that works.

This umbrella crap is the same kind of Republican B.S. like when POTUS didn’t have a jacket on in the Oval Office, or he had his feet on the desk, these things are so stupid. Surely there has to be some Republicans out there with some common sense who don’t like what their party have become, and they are ready to stand up and fight all this craziness. Are have all the Republicans lost it, are they rule by their racism, their hatred for this black President?

IRS problem started with vague tax exemption rules

    By Matea Gold, Washington Bureau
    May 16, 2013, 4:44 p.m.

At the heart of the issue is the murky role occupied by nonprofit “social welfare” organizations, set up under Section 501(c)4 of the tax code, which are allowed under IRS regulations to engage in a certain amount of campaign activity, as long as politics is not their “primary” purpose. The groups pay no tax on the money they bring in. They can accept unlimited donations and, unlike political committees, can keep their contributors secret.

That status became especially valuable three years ago with the Supreme Court’s decision in the Citizens United case, which lifted the ban on direct campaign spending by corporations, including many nonprofit groups. The ruling triggered the boost of applicants to the IRS.
That has left much of their regulation in the hands of the IRS, which has never clearly defined how much political activity is allowed for social welfare organizations.

The vagueness of the law may have contributed to the problems, President Obama said Thursday in his response to the controversy. Congress and his administration need to “look at some of the laws that create a bunch of ambiguity in which the IRS may not have enough guidance,” he said.
