jason easley with a good take on what’s going down, which is similar to ideas of many folks here:

“They were hoping that Obama would take a defensive tone. They were dreaming that the president would act like his administration was hiding something, but he has done the exact opposite.

By adopting the position that he is the problem solver within the government, President Obama is taking away one of the key contentions that Republicans have been basing all of their scandal investigations on. House Republicans claim that they want to solve problems to make sure that these sorts of things never happen again. President Obama challenged them to prove it.

The White House is trying to out the partisan motives of the scandal chasing Republican led House. The president has also painted the Republicans into a corner. Either they have to work with Obama and his administration in a high profile way, or they will spin their wheels inventing another dead end conspiracy that most of America will reject.”

The 2014 ads for Dems are writing themselves this week. If the ‘Pubs resist PBO in providing funds for embassy security, or refuse to pass the bill again that would have avoided the IRS mess, they will be signing their own last term in office papers. Of course, this only holds true in non-gerrymandered districts. There’s no hope in areas where tinfoil hats are in abundance.

I agree JO, this is a sweet ‘get’ for AWrence. I can’t wait for the interview. I absolutely adore Jay ‘Clark Kent’ Carney. At least he will be able to answer questions without being interrupted. Lately, the only host I can tolerate on MSNBC is Lawrence. I bet he is strutting around the MSNBC studios like the peacock in their logo. Good for him. He hit the ground running with the IRS 501 (c) 4 story and made many of his colleagues in the media look like amateurs. He went straight to the heart of the matter. In “1959” the IRS changed operate (EXCLUSIVELY to PRIMARILY) for the social welfare and that created ambiguity and fertile ground for abuse/confusion we are seeing.

BAN POLITICAL SPENDING BY 501 (c) 4 ORGANIZATIONS

The Real Problem At The IRS

    By Melanie Sloan

    —————————————-

My organization, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), has regularly criticized the IRS for spending the last two elections sitting on its hands while dark money groups, organized under section 501(c)(4) of the tax code, spent millions of dollars contributed by anonymous donors to run vituperative, deceptive political ads. Under the law, 501(c)(4) status is reserved for groups promoting social welfare; it was never intended to apply to political groups.

Nevertheless, largely due to the disastrous 2010 Citizens United decision, the number of applications for 501(c)(4) status more than doubled between 2010 and 2012. The Tea Party became a political force during the same period. As a result, an overwhelming number of the new groups attempting to benefit from 501(c)(4) status supported Republican candidates and causes. While there are some 501(c)(4)s oriented toward Democrats, including Priorities USA, because of liberal opposition to dark money groups, the vast majority are conservative.
    .
    .
As Congress holds hearings and demands answers from the IRS, members on both sides of the aisle should consider a solution to this problem: banning political spending by 501(c)(4) groups. The effect of such a change would allow the IRS to get out of the business of attempting to ascertain the goals of these organizations, without impairing groupsโ€™ participation in the electoral process.

His interview with the Watertown police department was over the top great. Everyone should hear it….Wayne LaPierre and the NRA should hear it. These police gave the best reason for NOT arming civilians I’ve heard, and they didn’t even know they were doing it. They just talked about what police are supposed to do, and that is protect civilians. It is not civilians’ jobs to be a vigilante group. Civilians with weapons make policing much more difficult.

Great, great job, UT. Was at a Progressive Dems meeting today and told group that the only way to counter the Beltway war on the president was to make ourselves as knowledgeable as possible and become his message bearers. Each of us encounters people all the time who try to push false memes, but, armed with facts, we can destroy every one of them. We aren’t powerless and don’t have to rely on any form of media to tell us what to think. Got into it with a man who said he thought Hillary would have been a stronger president. My husband tried to warn the guy, but I got started listing PBO’s accomplishments and wouldn’t stop and then in the end, he said, “well you have a point.” My husband was laughing his head off.

They are, by the way, doing this to gin up support in 2014. Rove literally said so in a (WSJ?) op-ed. We have to stay engaged, ahead of the curve and not let another 2010 happen.

The ‘pubs will realize once again, that they have outplayed themselves. They have made sure that the head people in the IRS, appointed by Bush, will be let go. PBO gets to appoint his own people. It’ll take a week or so, before they go….oops, or as Boehner has been known to say, ‘We got 98% of what we wanted’, only to find out their pockets have been picked clean.

    Repub face palms all around.

[Hello TODers, Mighty Blog Tyrants, Dear Chips! Just dropping in!]

[Markey gave Cooter the hissy-sadz (Cooter of Dukes of Hazzard TV show — my little nephew used to call it Jesus Had It! I dare you to say Dukes of Hazzard real fast & doncha know my nephew was right! ๐Ÿ™‚ )! The whole letter is in the twilight zone kinda place, here’s a little piece]:

[….] When I ran for Congress after the โ€œDukesโ€ was over, I campaigned as an unabashed Southern populist, and was elected because of strong support from the black communities of Atlanta. [Gazelle: Really?!!] They all knew me as โ€œCooter,โ€ [Gazelle: ummm, & that’s a good thing??!!] and they had all seen me riding in that General Lee. But they also knew me as someone who was a brother-in-arms. {Gazelle: I’m joining the Jesus Had It group!]

It seems to me, Eddie, that in this Internet world you and Al Gore invented, things are being simplified to the point of idiocy. [Gazelled: Here’s looking at you, idiot!] So rather than having a serious discussion about the use of symbols, and the context of symbols, and the meaning of symbols, the argument has been boiled down to something like this: โ€œRebel flag bad. Racist! Me good. Not racist!โ€

Well, I reckon I am โ€œold school.โ€ [Gazelle: Eff wot?!] To assume that a friend and former colleague should be banned from a fundraiser because the St. Andrews Battle Flag has been used by racist idiots like the KKK in their sad rituals raises a lot of questions:Are you assuming that black folks cannot tell the difference between a Confederate flag displayed at Antietam or Manassas and a Klan rally? [Gazelle: spewing tea over keyboard!] Or between a Confederate flag on the โ€œDukes of Hazzardโ€ and a Neo-Nazi meeting? And doesnโ€™t the Klan also use the American flag? And the Christian Cross? Wouldnโ€™t that make them equally as noxious? And donโ€™t they wear bedsheets? Does that mean we should stop sleeping on them? [Gazelle: Oooh, Lawd, that’s some mis-edumakashun going on!] [….]

    .

I’m now going to every article and saying what?! Another Obama scandal?! I can’t believe it!

Seriously though I am glad the president told AP kindly to get fucked when it comes to those leaks and to feel free to make inaccurate comparisons to Nixon. It just makes them look stupid and out of touch.
