night owl chat – ode to joy

Probably the greatest musical expression of unbridled joy is the “Ode to Joy”, the fourth movement of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony. It’s been a hell of a couple of weeks, so some versions of the Ode to take you soaring and lift your spirits.

Flash Mob “Ode to Joy”

“Ode to Joy” scene from “Immortal Beloved”

“Ode to Joy” from the Opening Ceremony of the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics

And the most iconic performance of the “Ode to Joy”: Lenny Bernstein in commemoration of the fall of the Berlin Wall, renamed “Ode to Freedom”

Live life with joy. That’s what our opponents lack.

This is your night owl open thread.

Typical spring…pretty soon, 102 will be considered a “cooling trend” and we’ll be BEGGING to see 102! July, August, Sept….are brutal. Feels like the low setting on the oven.no joke.

No one like Rachel Maddow ask the question what if the person helping the U,S . were discover, and the terrorists plot had went on and succeeded, who would be blame? Who would these tv pundits and journalists blame for hundreds of Americans being kill. Of the night shows on MSNBC, the only one who talk like they have some sense is Lawrence O’Donnell.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this movie. And truly loved his triumphant speech and his triumphant walk afterwards. Speaking of favorite movies, this is one of my favorite ones. I thought Colin Firth was fantastic in this movie, but, then I thought the other actors were superb too.

Could some smart TODer with a great memory point me to a summary of everything PBO has done for the environment? I know Time magazine had a piece way back about all the green energy stuff embedded in the stimulus. We’re having an OFA planning meeting on climate change tomorrow, and CREDO sent out an email trying to hijack it into a Keystone Pipeline freak-out. I need to calmly present the facts about what a green President we have.

Notre-Dame de Paris is a sung-through French-Canadian musical which debuted on 16 September 1998 in Paris. It is based upon the novel Notre-Dame de Paris (The Hunchback of Notre-Dame) by the French novelist Victor Hugo. The music was composed by Riccardo Cocciante (also known as Richard Cocciante) and the lyrics are by Luc Plamondon.

Since its debut, it has been played in Canada, France, Belgium, Russia, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Japan, China, South Korea, Haiti and Taiwan. A shorter version in English was performed in 2000 in Las Vegas, Nevada (USA) and a full-length London production, also in English, ran for seventeen months. Popular songs from the show, such as Belle and Le temps des cathédrales have also been translated into Belarusian, Catalan, Czech, German, Lithuanian, Polish, Russian, Dutch and English.

Notre-Dame de Paris, according to the Guinness Book of Records, had the most successful first year of any musical ever. The score has been recorded at least seven times to date (2007): the original French concept album, which featured Israeli singer Achinoam Nini (aka Noa) as Esmeralda was followed by a live, complete recording of the original Paris cast. A complete recording of the score in Italian was made, along with a single disc of highlights in Spanish from the Barcelona production. The original London cast album featured several of the original Paris stars, but only preserved a fraction of the score in English. The orchestral group I Fiamminghi recorded a CD of melodies from the score. A complete set of instrumental backing tracks has also been released.

You know Dudette, this is the history, of African achievements against incredible odds, that most Americans are not familiar with. At the top of that list are all black men and women who volunteered to serve in the military to defend this country, going as far back as the American Revolutionary War. Sadly, their patriotism and their valor never protected them racial attacks and denigration. Yet, they held their heads high and served with distinction for a country that dishonored them on a daily basis.

Any way, it’s obvious that you and the Mrs. did a wonderful job raising incredibly smart children. On a completely unrelated topic – during the fixing of the roof today – the apprentice managed to trip & his butt fell through the patio ceiling! Fortunately he wasn’t hurt – but is he being picked on. His boss assures me it is like the “get back on the horse after a fall” – but I think they were mean.

They have, however – with minimal fuss – replaced the panel and painted the ceiling (with the lad do much of the repair) – I’m impressed.

    Good evening TOD!
    Well, well, well.
    Looka here. Looka here.
Just catching up with all the today’s threads. I was out all day attending our Giveaway Ministry where we hand out clothes, food, shoes, books, hugs and smiles to whomever needs.

I knew today was going to be special. I felt it all last night. Not only did AG Holder kick ass, he wiped the floor with the egg on all of their racist faces as I sensed he would very early this morning.
JT dropped a dime on his BFF. Wow! They are eating each other alive.
And yes……..PBO and AG Holder made their enemies and ours their footstools. It was done so humbly smooth. So cool. So much class and grace.
    Need I say more?

    Talking about joy!
We are in GOOD hands. Another night of blissful sleep.
I think it is time for a Nutella sandwich.
    #TrustBarack. He deserves it.
