Benjamin Todd Jealous President and CEO, NAACP

In August 1963 a sea of diverse activists stormed the National Mall to demand social justice and an end to segregation. In April 2013 a similarly diverse wave of legal immigrants, undocumented immigrants, and activists of all backgrounds gathered at the United States Capitol to call an end to second-class citizenship. The March on Washington pressured Congress to pass the Civil Rights Acts. This year, we need to show Congress once again that American of all stripes care about progressive reform.

Progressives aren’t supposed to hand out a list of problems, then demand that someone else solve them. Progressives are supposed to solve the problems, too. The problem with some liberal groups is (and it’s not just Occupy; they just happen to be the latest example), they march a lot, and they list a lot of grievances and demand solutions. But they don’t seem willing to actually delve into the process and actually solve the problems themselves.

Because solutions are hard, PF. You don’t just grandstand, you have to get down into the dirt and do the hard work of people to people contact, persistent lobbying. You have to keep working at it when you’re so tired you want to scream, but you keep on going because you have to keep reaching out. You do the truly back breaking tough work of stepping out and running for local office, then state offices when you’re ready. You bear the burden. So much easier to whine and throw spitballs from the sidelines.

Particularly, when it came to voting in 2010

    • May 11, 2013 at 5:13 pm

Not just that, but they also reject incremental progress ( which is strange, since they call themselves “progressives”). If it’s not completely fixed the dirst time, then it’s not good enough…

Well, LP, all I can say is that this story regarding CO levels actually made the front page of our dinky home town newspaper, while Benghazi was buried inside. Sometimes real news appears in the most unexpected places.

Apologies to anyone who saw The Sunday Lynx flash before their eyes. I hit publish instead of preview, had a very mild heart attack, and then figured out how to fix it. But it’s a perfectly good time to remind you that it’s coming tomorrow, as long as the president doesn’t make any major speeches, and that it’s time to think about the links you’d like to add. For anyone who missed the intro, it’s here: http://theobamadiary.com/2013/04/28/join-the-team-the-sunday-lynx. For tomorrow I’ve including some tech info for those who asked for it.

GOP blasts Sebelius for seeking industry funds to promote ObamaCare
    Sam Baker
    05/11/13 10:36 AM ET
The top Republican on the Senate Finance Committee said he will investigate whether the HHS secretary’s fundraising push is legal.…

Sebelius needs to be more cautious.

    • May 11, 2013 at 2:55 pm

Why? No matter how she plays it Republicans aren’t going to cut her any slack. They’re crazy.

      • 34 Jovie
        May 11, 2013 at 3:13 pm

Well, she has 25 million at her disposal from the law itself, for messaging.
Asking Private companies to help out?
What did she think the Republicans were going to do?
That said, I am sure she asked Counsel if it is legal? Right?

        • 36 jackiegrumbacher
          May 11, 2013 at 4:01 pm

Of course, she asked counsel. Sebelius is a very smart woman and she would not have done this without legal support. If Congress doesn’t like what she’s doing, they can give her some funds. This is such typical R behavior. Pull some move designed to handicap someone and when they pull themselves up on their feet, try to knock away the support. To hell with them.

While hoping no one notices where they are getting the money to fight the ACA… Do they never tire of their own scalding hypocrisy?

Well, a US card obviously leaves out the rest of the world (try it, you’ll be convinced), so here’s my wish:

Thank you Mrs. Obama, for leading the world to appreciate Mother’s Day.

    Nice job, Colorado! http://thinkprogress.org/health/2013/05/09/1985901/colorado-obamacare-public-education-campaign/

Colorado is bringing health care reform to a TV ad near you.
With over 40 percent of Americans still unsure whether or not Obamacare is even the law of the land, and an open enrollment period for its statewide insurance exchanges that begins in less than five months, Colorado is pumping $2 million into an outreach effort aimed at preparing consumers for upcoming changes under the health law. This makes Colorado the first state to mount an aggressive push to raise awareness of one of Obamacare’s most important provisions for uninsured individuals and small businesses — although Oregon and Kentucky aren’t far behind with their own PR campaigns planned for next month.
Colorado is unveiling a state-run website to give residents more detailed information about Obamacare, and help them figure out whether they will qualify for federally subsidized individual or small business coverage once Colorado’s insurance marketplace opens up in October. For the next two months, the state will also run television spots and print, radio, and billboard ads highlighting the insurance marketplaces, where insurers must compete to offer Americans health coverage:
