Michael Tomasky: Well, we learned something new about what’s going on in wingnut land. Apparently, you see, there are four–no; make that at least four!–diplomatic officials who are in possession of vital information about Benghazi: the department’s (er, Hillary’s) refusal to increase security in the months before the attack; the diplo security forces (er, Hillary’s) failure to respond to the attack in the most forceful way; and finally, the administration’s (er, Hillary’s) cover-up and lies in the aftermath.

Ed Henry asked about this right off the bat, injecting a dose of Breitbartism into the proceedings. Like everyone else in America who tries not to patronize the fever swamps, I went “huh?” Then I Googled it and got this Fox News piece laying out the whole vast conspiracy:

WH: Two years ago, President Obama announced a challenge to the private sector to hire or train 100,000 unemployed veterans or their spouses by the end of 2013.

Today, President Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama, Vice President Biden, and Dr. Jill Biden all participated in a Joining Forces Employment event at the White House.

President Obama set a goal of asking the private sector to hire or train 100,000 veterans and military spouses by the end of 2013.

Today, the First Lady announced that America’s businesses nearly tripled the goal set by President Obama and did so eight months early. The private sector has already hired or trained 290,000 veterans and military spouses.

The First Lady also announced that American companies have committed to hire or train another 435,000 veterans and military spouses over the next five years.

Washington Post: When President Obama delivered some self-deprecating stand-up comedy at the annual White House Correspondent’s Dinner on Saturday, he was clearly speaking to fellow Americans. He joked about U.S. media personalities and U.S. pop culture. He made offhand references to minor political controversies and network television ratings.

It was not the kind of speech that you, or Obama himself, would likely expect to become a hit in China. But, according to the Wall Street Journal’s Josh Chin, that’s exactly what has happened, with the speech attracting wide and largely positive attention on the Chinese Web. A video of the speech, appended with Chinese subtitles, has attracted an astounding 25 million views on the Web site Youku.

TPM: The daughter of Sandy Hook Elementary School principal and shooting victim Dawn Hochsprung confronted Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) over her vote against expanding gun background checks at a town hall in Warren, N.H. on Tuesday.

“You had mentioned that day you voted, owners of gun stores that the expanded background checks would harm,” Erica Lafferty said, according to NBC News. “I am just wondering why the burden of my mother being gunned down in the halls of her elementary school isn’t more important than that.”

Steve Benen: McConnell’s ‘viral’ sensation (literally) comes at a price …. I had a little fun last week, briefly mocking Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s new campaign video …. It did not occur to me at the time to appreciate its total number of views, which, as it turns out, is far more interesting than the video itself.

According to YouTube, this video was posted by McConnell’s campaign team on Thursday morning, and by mid-day Friday, it had 651,021 views. Just 16 minutes later, it had 1,036,039 views…..

To borrow a word, I’m calling bullpucky. There’s just no way this is legit. There are plenty of companies folks can pay to increase their YouTube views total artificially, and I have a strong hunch Team McConnell wrote a nice check and bought 1 million hits to their silly video.

Which, if true, is kind of a sad move for a Senate Minority Leader to have to resort to….

The biggest bullpucky in Kentucky! If he’d been sitting naked, drinking Kentucky moonshine from a jar, with Lady GaGa on his lap and a dead possum on his head…..maybe… maybe it would have had that many hits.

Maybe.

Well it finally happened. Dropped my iPhone on the floor & cracked the face! It’s pretty bad. Feel like I’m going to cut myself if I just pan up. Unfortunately I don’t can’t upgrade. I currently have AT&T. I’m looking to change. I don’t want T-Mobile or Verizon, so I’m looking towards Sprint or last resort Virgin. I’ve always had the IPhone since it first came out, but now I’m looking for something new.

So help a sista out, alright peeps phone survey: HTC or Samsung Galaxy; Virgin vs Sprint.

Left a response on last thread. Also, too, Virgin’s customer service SUCKS!

        thanks Alycee.

I’ve decided to go with Sprint and the Galaxy 4 from Sprint. It was a good deal and the unlimited data plan and text message sold me.

    • April 30, 2013 at 5:36 pm

I’m a T-Mobile person myself. And the missus loves her Galaxy III.

        April 30, 2013 at 6:19 pm

I use Sprint and have an almost two year old Samsung Conquer which I really like. This December I will get the Samsung Galaxy III. Sprint service is good too. I had an iphone for several months, and somehow it and I just did not sync. I have found the Samsung android easy and friendly to use.
I also have a Samsung tablet which I really like.

        April 30, 2013 at 6:21 pm

I had T-Mobile before and I hated it. I barely use my phone to make calls, but I do use the data bits a lot. AT&T does not have unlimited data, and I was always having to pay the extra GB for data usage.

        • April 30, 2013 at 6:23 pm

T-Mobile just came out with unlimited data. You may want to check them out again. If it’s Sprint v. Verizon, stick with Sprint.

          • 9 lamh36
            April 30, 2013 at 6:24 pm

thanks I’ll go with Sprint. I really can’t stand T-Mobile anymore. I’ve been decided to never go back to them.

            thanks for the info LL

            • April 30, 2013 at 6:27 pm

With Sprint you’d get unlimited data. With Verizon it’d be ATT all over again.

              Happy phoning!

                April 30, 2013 at 8:19 pm

I have an iPhone with Verizon. After holding other people’s phones I don’t think I could ever go back. The iPhone is like a gorgeous piece of art (ok, ok – enough vodka and 7 for me)! Seriously though, how much longer do you have on your contract? You can get some seriously good deals on iPhones if you have quite a bit of time on . I know Verizon is pricey, but not that bad when you consider the service.
Sprint sucks, do put it bluntly. Have you considered a month to month plan? There are quite a few good ones. Where do you live, some are regional and are good. What a bummer! I’ll put my thinking cap on (meaning one more small drink, lol) and see what I can think of. I know, Tracfone has triple minutes FOR LIFE. They finally have some decent phones also.

Sad to say Bobfr, that Dick Durbin was a culprit as well. He killed off funding (300 million) to upgrade Thompson Correctional Facility in IL.

Oh, I know, and I gave him hell about it!

        • April 30, 2013 at 8:08 pm

It really pisses me off that the media (w/ complete knowledge that the funding was stripped in the DAA 2010) still accuses PBO of not trying to close GITMO. It’s a ball faced lie, the MSM perpetuates it, and gives no context to the casual citizens who may see a press briefing.

I have been so angry about this. The Emos have also continued to blame PBO. I turned of Chris Hayes –again. His first segment was ‘why didn’t PBO use his override power?’. I know exactly how you feel Zekke! For me, I am through with the holier than thou progressives who some times make the tea baggers look like the smartest people in the country. As for the so called mainstream media, after viewing today’s Presidential Press Conference, I really see no need for having a White House Press. The people in that WHPC are not journalists out to inform the American people; the people I saw to day are nothing but GOP Right wing Propagandist on a mission to destroy President Obama. Thank God we elected a president who has incredible patience and the capacity to deal with vile people without losing his cool. If I were the President I would refuse to answer any more stupid questions from that GOP/right wing propaganda cabal masquerading as the White House Press Corp.

IRS eyes U.S. accounts at Caribbean bank
    http://tinyurl.com/c3a5gyg

The Justice Department said on Tuesday that a federal court had authorized the Internal Revenue Service to seek information on U.S. taxpayers who may have accounts at Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce FirstCaribbean International Bank (FCIB).

In a move resembling a recent IRS inquiry into Americans with Swiss bank accounts, the Justice Department said a court order would let the IRS serve a ‘John Doe’ summons seeking records of FCIB’s U.S. correspondent account at Wells Fargo & Co. A correspondent account is a bank deposit account maintained by one bank for another bank.

The order would allow the IRS to identify U.S. taxpayers with “interests in financial accounts at FCIB and other financial institutions that used FCIB’s Wells Fargo correspondent account,” the Justice Department said in a statement.

The IRS uses ‘John Doe’ summonses to get information on possible tax law breakers whose identities are unknown. “This John Doe summons directs Wells Fargo to produce records identifying U.S. taxpayers with accounts at FCIB and other banks that used FCIB’s correspondent account,” the statement said.
