    “Steve King Sees an Opportunity”
    By Steve Benen

For much of the country, the focus is on developments in Boston and the search for answers. On Capitol Hill, there’s also new interest in comprehensive immigration reform, which is finally advancing in the Senate.

Leave to Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) to combine the two, and urge Congress to stop immigration reform in light of yesterday’s bombs.

“Some of the speculation that has come out is that yes, it was a foreign national and, speculating here, that it was potentially a person on a student visa,” King says. “If that’s the case, then we need to take a look at the big picture.”

On immigration, King says national security should be the focus now, and any talk about a path to legalization should be put on hold.

I don’t expect much from the right-wing congressman, but even for him, this is low.

Yeah, Steve King, I took a look at the “big picture,” which has you in it, and me no likey. Get off the national stage.

A “like” button. Now I know I’m an outsider. I’ve never seen anything resembling a “Like” button on this site.

It’s at the bottom of the leader (?), shows the avatar of those who click on it. I have found it only allows you to like if you are ‘officially’ a member of WP, which you do not have to be to use this site. There may be some advantages, like the notification of reply little boxy thingy, which some elite TODobots use and love! That is only my opinion, one of the ‘tyrants, or mini-tyrants’ could elaborate, veryslowwriter.

President Obama will travel to Boston on Thursday to attend an interfaith service reflecting on the attacks at the city’s marathon earlier this week.

Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick announced the president’s trip during a press conference Tuesday afternoon.

White House press secretary Jay Carney confirmed the president’s plans in a statement, adding that the president’s planned trip to the University of Kansas on Friday will no longer take place.

If U.S. District Court Judge Carl Barbier, who is trying the complex case without a jury, rules that BP deliberately ignored safety protocols, it would result in a four-fold increase in the billions of dollars of Clean Water Act penalties expected to be levied.

    That would be great!

So glad to hear that PBO will attend service in Boston on Thursday. Being POTUS is no walk in the park. I’m thinking of how many times the President has been to very sad events. The miners funeral, Ted Kennedy’s funeral, early on, Tuscon, Aurora, Sandy Hook—many more I think. PBO always strikes just the right note for soothing and healing and resolve to make our world a better place.
    I love our President.

I hope the First Lady goes too. It’s important that she is more publicly a part of these condolence visits as opposed to her husband showing up alone at these seminal non-political moments!!!

Her presence beside her husband at the Tucson memorial was positively powerful and impactful and her absence at Newtown albeit understandable, was felt!!!

U.S. Capitol police on Tuesday intercepted an envelope addressed to a Senate office after finding that it had tested positive for the toxic substance ricin, according to multiple reports. Politico later identified Sen. Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) as the intended recipient.

CNN reports that the letter was tested by authorities three times, each time turning up positive results for ricin. The envelope has since been set to a lab in Maryland for additional testing.

Politico reports that Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and FBI Director Robert Mueller are briefing senators on the incident now.

Good article. My spouse and I just said that if it were a black male walking through the crowd with a black bag he would be noticed immediately and thought to be a threat by some. A white male with a black bag walking through that all white crowd is practically invisible.
