The race was apparently dedicated to the Newtown massacre. I did not know this. Now I think it’s a bagger even more.

Sorry everyone for the post confusion – and sorry UT. I posted again at the same time.

Re the earlier ‘Our hearts are broken’ post, I think when a comment is deleted in a thread it sends the whole thread crazy – I have no clue why.

    Thanks again UT.

What’s happening Chips? I went to work (in a cocoon) all day today and am just signing in for the 1st time. Obviously something negative has happened in Boston – please don’t say it’s another mass killing.

      • April 15, 2013 at 5:49 pm

Sorry VC, just saw your comment. Yes, horrifically, two bombs at Boston Marathon today, two dead at least, many injured. Beyond belief.

Just heard police report from Boston and they did mention a 3rd bomb at JFK and the bottom of the screen included Library with the JFK initials. They are making a plea for videos or photos taken in the areas of the explosions.

Also, as a reminder, Patriot’s Day had nothing to do with Waco siege end (1993) and OKC (1995), both of which happened on April 19.

Let’s not believe conspiracy theorists or talking heads today.

Something truly insane is happening in this country. My brain can’t comprehend the point of killing innocent people at random–people who have done no harm and are simply running or enjoying a race. It wasn’t clear on the last thread if a suspect has been arrested, so it’s too soon to speculate on the who and the why. Right now I just pray there are no more explosions, no more deaths, no more injuries. If there’s a blame game in this–the governor’s fault, or the president’s fault–I’m really going to lose it. We’re creating a culture in this country where violence is the answer to everything. We need a long and showboating free national discussion of just what kind of country we want to be. And if we don’t want to end up living our lives in fear, then we had better start working together to make things different.

I always imagined that Mr. Rogers had a wonderful mother. This quote proves that. When my son was very young, I used to turn on Mr. Rogers for “him.” He would go and play and I would watch. I just loved this man and all his words of wisdom and comfort.

      • April 15, 2013 at 6:05 pm

It’s just the most beautiful quote, Jackie, and so perfect for today. If it’s all terrifying for adults, it must be impossible for kids to take in.

Hi Susanne, It’s a long time since I was a child, but even I found it comforting – it’s a beautiful sentiment to share with children today and in the days ahead.

Call me crazy and distracted, but I would like the notes on Boehner’s desk magnified, so we could see how they read. The first one probably says, “The President’s name is Barack Obama. He lives at the White House.” You know, ’cause he might need notes.

      Okay, I’ll stop.

This is not to take away from Boston, or any of our sadness about that, but it’s a good reminder … our country has several balls to juggle each and every day. I, among many, believe none of us are going to forget #GunSafety any time soon, no matter what else happens.

I’ve watched CBS coverage. It’s been very good. No editorializing, no hypothesizing, no hyperbole…..calm, rational, complete coverage.
I went to college in Boston, go back as often as I can, have walked where this took place…..cannot imagine anyone wanting and planning to do this.
Have been so glad to see the calm co-ordination of all emergency services….city, state and federal.

    • April 15, 2013 at 6:22 pm

I think you mentioned before that you’re not on Twitter. Here’s some reasonable tweets from earlier today re: unsettling and tragic events in Boston:

    • April 15, 2013 at 6:29 pm

This does bring back our OKC bombing……that is a memory that doesn’t leave. Scott Pelley just mentioned that Tim McVeigh was apprehended that night because of evidence found at the crime scene. I’m so glad these people (CBS) aren’t making any conjectures as to perpetrators. After OKC some news people immediately jumped to blame Muslims, and one perfectly innocent man was arrested quickly.. Of course, instead it was a homegrown white Caucasian. A doctor is now cataloguing the injuries at one of the hospitals. People aged three through 62. Now we know 54-55 people injured. The trauma centers at the Boston hospitals are among the top in the country.

POTUS says exactly the right thing at the right time. They’ll find who did this, no doubt in my mind. To speculate on national tv by ‘journalists’ is destructive and wrong, so glad he commented on that.
