We have rain & sleet. I was going to go out today, but decided to stay in and catch up on the reading. Really good posts the last few days. Just not commenting. Went to the Doctor on Friday for my 90 day check up the surgery took, have a problem with the PVc’s but hopefully that will clear up too. So I am dancing with joy.

That is wonderful for your health! Sleet is a terrible thing for driving. My relatives had to deal with it in the area of Sioux Falls, SD. Even lost power, hurts the trees too.

You know Nena, we can only hope. He is doing really great so far. He got in the race too late last time. I hear she was applied for her Swiss dual citizenship again. I can only ask the man upstairs to take overseas and leave her. Did you hear her questions to Brennan at the hearing? She has let more national security leak from her dumb mouth than anyone I have ever heard. I just shudder thinking about her. We really are not all that crazy here. I came back from TX because of the crazies down there. Not realizing we had our own here in MN.:) 🙂 🙂

      • April 14, 2013 at 3:22 pm

I am not a troll and I take offense that you would can that post. I have posted here before and have been reading here forever – I am a big Obama supporter but not a Tiger one and I stand by what I said I think the guy is lacking in ethics and morals and I hope he never wins another tournament. I don’t always agree with you but I have just as much right to my opinion as you do and I would not can any of your posts!!

        • April 14, 2013 at 3:32 pm

Yeah you have the right to your opinion but quit with the name calling and not all of us can always come out with 100% ethics and morals grades because we are humans and we fall short all the time. Tiger is not the first person to cheat and he will not be the last and I am not here to judge him and continue to hate on him. Too many of us act like we are paragons of virtues but only if walls could talk.

Iowa was not the one who brought up the topic of golf. I never got a good feeling about Tiger from the first time I saw him; same with Lance. Same with my daughter’s boyfriend. I’m a bit surprised that liking Tiger appears to be a prerequisite for loving our wonderful first family?

Rubio’s “Meet The Press” talking points dissected

      By Samuel Knight

Finally, Rubio blasted Jay-Z and Beyonce Knowles’ trip to Cuba, saying that if the communist island wants “normal relations… it should become a normal country,” and proceeded to call it “dictatorial” and “tyrannical.”

Again, no need to delve into peer-reviewed literature here. This is shameless pandering to a powerful subset of his constituents, former Cuban elites who fled the island after their dictator, Flugencio Batista fell in 1959.

Rubio hasn’t, after all, suggested embargoes against Saudi Arabia, China or Vietnam. Although he did, amid Arab Spring mass demonstrations, offer a meager policy of not “endorsing the status quo” in Egypt, Bahrain or Saudi Arabia, it seems to be all flash an no substance. In other words, typical Rubio.

Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) backed the NRA-supported “concealed carry reciprocity” Sunday morning, an initiative which would require concealed carry permits to be accepted universally across the country, forcing states with tighter permit restrictions to accept permit-holders from states with looser ones.
Rubio took the initiative one step further, saying on Fox News Sunday that if a person has undergone a background check for a concealed carry permit in one state, that person shouldn’t necessarily have to undergo another background check to buy a gun in another state.

That’s it, idiot! All those loons that love you…will they “love you” after you trample all over that “states rights” thing? If you love this idea so much…let’s bring it on! That means what’s good for the goose, is good for the gander! Abortion rights, SSM, Healthcare access…..let’s make all THOSE equally available across state lines! I’ll see you, and raise you, asshole!

Good pushback by Gillibrand. There’s video of the exchange. Click on the link.

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) corrected NBC host David Gregory on Sunday after he repeated the National Rifle Association’s (NRA) talking points in opposition to expanding gun background checks even though only 10 percent of the country agrees with the lobbying group.

During a panel discussion on NBC’s Meet the Press, Gregory argued that “not a lot is about to be accomplished” even if the Senate succeeds in passing a bill to close the so-called gun show loophole and expand background checks to Internet sales.

“I disagree,” Gillibrand insisted. “I think we have a very good start on beginning to crack down on gun crime. And the bottom line is the families of Newtown, the families all across America who lose children every single day, they deserve a vote, they deserve an answer, they deserve leadership out of Washington.”

“But the NRA doesn’t believe that,” Gregory interrupted. “The NRA does not agree.”

“This is not about the NRA!” Gillibrand exclaimed. “This is about families! This is about America! Seventy-percent of NRA members like the background check bill, like the straw purchase bill. They even support things like assault weapons ban.”

“So if you’re talking about people and if you’re talking about America and what Americans want, Americans want these reforms. We just saw that mother who lost her child, you cannot do nothing in the face of that tragedy!”

    • 69 hopefruit2
      April 14, 2013 at 3:23 pm

Good for her! The last time Gregory had her on MTP, he kept interrupting her and allowed Michele Bachmann to talk over her spewing lies and garbage, unchallenged. She wasn’t as prepared as she could have been then. But today things were clearly different. I guess Gregory won’t be extending another invitation soon. He’s a bully.

I am truly sorry if this has already been posted – I haven’t been able to read the threads for most of the week. I saw this today, and just had to post. This is Michele Bachmann at Senate Intelligence committee hearings. First she asks about the White House launching its own drone strikes, then she asks about stuff that isn’t supposed to be talked about. The reactions of Mr. Brennan and the other gentlemen around the table are priceless. Keep watching to the end! Again, if everyone has already seen this, I apologize.

    • 80 Cathy from MN
      April 14, 2013 at 5:19 pm

She is so amazingly ignorant. It is such an embarrassment to have her in the US Congress and she poses a security risk. On the Intelligence Committee, she should know which topics are classified.

LIke how she says 9-1-1 instead of the date 9/11? We teach people to remember 9-1-1 to call emergency on their phone so they don’t get stuck mentally thinking eleven.
The attacks on World Trade Center really did happen on the ‘eleventh’ of September, so it is not 9-1-1.

This is what the executive producer of the Puppy Bowl, Melinda Toporoff, had to say earlier this year:

// Next year Toporoff hopes to score President Obama’s family dog, Bo, as a very special guest.

“Maybe we can get Bo for the 10th anniversary show,” says Toporoff of the first dog, a cuddly black Portuguese water dog. “I know he’s an incredibly busy dog, but now that he’s secured in his home for another four years maybe he can do the coin toss.” //

This is another must-read gem from The People’s View! 🙂

// The Loud Left is imploring the rejection of the president’s modest proposal on adjusting cost of living increases to Social Security – and with that bathwater, the baby, i.e. the president’s budget which would raise taxes on the rich, invest in universal early childhood education, and create a $50 billion stimulus package. A big part of the reason, they say, is because voting for a budget that includes the president’s Social Security reforms would be political suicide, opening Democrats up to attacks, fair and unfair, from Republicans in 2014.

Two words: tunnel vision. Last week, I argued that by attacking President Obama viciously on chained CPI, the self-important Left was missing the forest for the trees, given Barack Obama’s vast expansion of the social safety net. Today, I am going to lay out the tunnel vision of the armchair activists’ political acumen. What they are missing is the comprehensive political dynamic that will be at play in 2014. Four major factors will influence 2014: the first three are being referred to as B.I.G. in the political press: budget battle, immigration reform, and gun safety. The fourth, and perhaps the most potent weapon for Democrats is Obamacare, which will be in full effect in 2014. //

Based on what I’ve read, TODville would do well to exhibit the patience-of-Job that our esteemed CIC has.

Gun Safety legislation (including background checks) will not occur overnight, or next week. It’s gonna be a long process.

“When the Senate convenes Monday afternoon, Sen.Joe Manchin III (D-W. Va.) plans to take to the floor to go through his proposal piece-by-piece to dispel what he considers misrepresentations from critics of tighter gun laws. He’ll then challenge colleagues who have any questions to come to join him in the chamber for an open debate, and stay there for as long as it takes to satisfy concerns.”

  40. April 14, 2013 at 7:02 pm

    And speaking of GOP obstructionism:

  41. April 14, 2013 at 7:30 pm

Also re: GOP obstructionism wasn’t just a DC-based conspiracy (McConnell, et.al).

See this article published on Nov 13, 2008 about GOP GOVERNORS:

“At a meeting in Miami, the governors debate how the party can reclaim the momentum from Democrats. The confab is also an early audition for the 2012 presidential race.”

Bill, a commenter on Smartypants blog offered words of Wisdom from SUN TZU’s “Art of War” that illustrated President Obama’s strategy in dealing with Republicans. Here are some more of SUN TZU’s wisdom that I think reflect the way President Obama is approaching his war with Republicans over the budget and other issues.

” Warfare is the Tao of deception. Thus:

      1. Although you are capable, display incapability.
      2. When committed to employing your forces, feign inactivity.
      3. When your objective is nearby, make it appear distant; when distant create the illusion of being nearby.
      6. If they are substantial, prepare for them.
      7. If they are Strong, avoid them.
      8. If they are angry, perturb them.
      10. If they are rested, force them to exert themselves.
      12. Attack where they are unprepared.
      13. Go forth where they will not expect it

These are the ways military strategists are victorious. They cannot be spoken in advance.”

Not everyone, VC! Some of us West Coast late-comers are here. For me I am grateful to hopefruit2 and desertflower, for sharing, respectively, two fabulous posts by Spandan at TPV and Smartypants. These two posts should be a must read for everyone who doubts the political skills of President Obama. They should also inspire us to do everything we can to make sure that the Congressional elections of 2014 will be different from those of 2010. We must never again allow the purity progressives to disillusion us by their idiotic attacks on President Obama. The President is doing his best to outwit the Republicans in order to advance the progressive agenda. And all we get from the PL is the freak out about the chained CPI. I am a senior citizen and there is no way any one can convince me that a president who did away with the donut-hole in the prescription drugs, madated free annual exams for seniors, outlawed insurance caps on medical coverage, and did away with denial of insurance coverage because of pre-exitent condition, is now, all of a sudden, anti-seniors.

      • April 14, 2013 at 9:21 pm

“These two posts should be a must read for everyone who doubts the political skills of President Obama. They should also inspire us to do everything we can to make sure that the Congressional elections of 2014 will be different from those of 2010.”

Couldn’t agree more, nath, and hope one of the many ‘blog tyrants’ will feature both of those fine essays when they launch a new thread. Perhaps even Madam Blog Tyrant, herself could do the deed 🙂

TOD is clearly the place to coalesce all those committed to rendering the PL/emoprog/whiners to the obscurity they deserve as we prepare for #LandslideDEMS2014 – Federal & State & Local.

Nicely put, Nath. No way they can convince me either.

For some reason my laptop is taking FOR-EV-ER to update when I refresh, AND I have to click it more than once. My patience is rapidly running out.

So Tiger didn’t have a good day. I am no golf fan, but I sure was hoping he would win or make it close. Well I will go back to not liking golf.

Actully, he had a decent day. Just too far back. And was his own fault. Ended up 4 back and took 4 penalty strokes. One bad shot cost him at least a chance at the playoff.

well, that “bad shot” was in reality a very good shot that got extremely unlucky. his aim was too accurate as it hit the flag and bounced into the water. it was a short shot, so he was bringing it in to spin back, and unfortunately hit the pin before it could spin back. it’s funny how for any other golfer in the world, 4th place at the Masters would be considered great, but since he’s set such a high standard over the years, for tiger it seems like failure. players are competing into the 50s nowadays and tiger is what, about 37, so he’ll be around leaderboards for a 15 years at least. he’s only at about the halfway point of his career!

I’m still here!! Had to run to the grocery, make some phone calls to family, and now I’m trying to eat and read. What happened to Chips? Thought she was feeling feisty and was going to post soon….fell asleep? Got TOO feisty? The pieces on TPV and Smartpants were more than awesome….some people have such short term memories, and for people that are “supposed” to be so damn smart, they certainly haven’t learned a damn thing in nearly 5 years. That doesn’t SOUND smart to me! PBO. Everyone’s fundraiser. Idiots.

See below – I have new dishwasher – so husband gets a reprieve – but I can never convince him to do the cooking – despite is is definitely not my “thing”.

I was really so pleased that your continual contact with the politicians seem to bear fruit – little steps – but it is nice to see ANY results from everyone’s efforts.

Hello late night people – I have just had a new dishwasher installed – tradesman said he would be here between 10 & 12 – rang at 10 – arrived at 10.15 & finished by 11. Compared to the runaround of the the past months by roof repairers – what a joy it was.

But what happened to Chips and that new post – was that 3 hours ago & coming soon?

We need a new dishwasher. What kind did you get? We have a Bosch, but I don’t know if I’ll get that kind again

I got a samsung – thought they made TVs! There were 5 in a line at the shop of the color, style that I wanted. No idea how to pick which one – so the salesman sold me the one he thought was the best of the five – It seems to be very “dumb user” proof which is needed – I had to turn on the “child controls” on the last one cause I kept starting it by mistake – sigh. This one is all electronic controls & truly easy to understand – but my first problem was opening the door – I just wasn’t pulling it hard enough – another sigh. 🙂 🙂

He can pass my ‘share’ on to AnneD. I wouldn’t want to have to listen to her complain that ‘it’s hard’ for her to live with less of his love than she’s been accustomed to,.
