Okay, that was the single busiest day in my entire life, it took me, oh, 15 hours to get 90 minutes work done. So, I have no clue what happened in the world while I was away. But I’d guess Wayne Rooney won the ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ award??

96,367 thanks to today’s blog tyrants, the stupendous LP, UT and Amk.

Promise, I’ll catch up with all the news in tomorrow’s R&S. Meanwhile, chat away, and feel free to tell me how awesome I am to get 90 minutes work done in 15 hours πŸ˜•

A lady went into a bar in Waco and saw a cowboy with his feet propped up on a table. He had on the biggest boots she’d ever seen! The woman asked the cowboy, “Is it true what they say about men with big feet?”
The cowboy grinned and said, “Shore is, little lady! Why don’t ya come on out to the bunkhouse and let me prove it to you?”
The woman wanted to find out for herself, so she spent the night with him. The next morning she handed him a $100 bill.
Blushing, he said, “Well, thankee, ma’am. Ah’m real flattered. Ain’t nobody ever paid me fer mah services before.”
The woman replied, “Don’t be flattered. Take the money and buy yourself some boots that fit.”

It may be overblown, but unfortunately it is effective. Consider the fact that the only gun control legislation that MAY pass (if it can get through the House) is background checks. That’s it. Sad that we cannot get restrictions on semi-automatic weapons for example.

God Bless President Obama and Vice President Biden for trying their best to get something passed. Hope it happens.

Last night BobFR posted a tweet that highlighted @lawrence’s great #Rewrite segment on Frances Perkins’ birthday yesterday.

He’s going to air part 2 sometime during the next 90 minutes; here’s that segment.

It gave me chills while I watched. “the nation’s most important Cabinet secretary ever,” the “the most important liberal woman forgotten from American political history: Frances Perkins, the architect of Social Security.”

So is Greenwald, Sirota and daily GOP shill gonna be Chris Hayes go to guest? If so, #WordsINeverThoughtIWouldSay “I already miss Ed Shultz”, just sayin’.

Maybe Steve Kornacki’s β€œUp With…” show is better than Hayes’ new daily. I am looking forward to Karen Finney’s show too.

MSNBC is no longer showing ANYTHING that middle class voters will watch. Say what you will about Ed Schultz, his show seemed to be geared to a middle class sensibility

I haven’t watched Chris since he took over the 8 pm slot. Sorry to hear that you don’t like his show. I didn’t mind him on “Up With”. I loved Ed — passionate dude. Cared about the middle class. Oh well.

My husband watched Ed regularly. Ed cared about the things he cared about. He has tried to watch Chris. He never lasts the entire hour. In addition to being TOO cerebral, Chris is way too jumpy. He did an excellent segment on raising the minimum wage last week, but that has been about it. I know his mind must be going 200 mph, because you can just see him dying to jump in all the time…..I’m sure my husband is not the only regular viewer lost at 7:00 (CST). As soon as I see Sirota is a guest, I’m outta there.

    • 41 Melanie
      April 11, 2013 at 9:48 pm

Do you listen to Ed’s radio show? He’s been going after PBO hard due to his budget. If he were on tv right now it would be the same thing. Bottom line is when you have your own show, you get to dictate the way it flows. We as viewers are not going to agree with everything in the media. That’s what remote controls were made for.

      • 42 lamh36
        April 11, 2013 at 10:22 pm

You don’t know me, I don’t know you, but I am talking about Ed’s show on MSNBC. The majority of people I know DO NOT LISTEN to talk radio but they do watch political shows on TV and Ed Shultz’s tv show was geared to a middle classes sensibility.

This ain’t got nothin to do with your bottom line at all. And BTW, that IS NOT how it works. If it were true, then we’d still have Ed Shultz show, Keith Olbermanns show and Phil Donahues show. On the crazy side, Glenn Beck, Lous Dobbs and Imus would also still have shows if your bottom line was remotely true.

show live and survive by ratings and the people who watched Shultz at 8pm are not the same people who will watch Hayes show and it’s shows, cause ratings are down and Hayes show is even hurting Maddow’s ratings.

Also, I know what my remote control is for thank you.

Here is something cool, a first (for me): my phone rang 10 minutes ago, a recorded voice invited me to stay on the line to join in on a “Tele-Town-Hall” for my legislative district, with all three members of my district live on the phone! There is an option for asking a question, by pressing *3 to speak to a staffer and be added to the queue. I think this is great, as I wasn’t able to get to the live TownHall two weeks ago. This is a pretty simple way to bring people up to date on what they are doing down in the State Capitol!

I have often commented how PBO, when he is visiting some place like a factory or a lab or a science fair, it is obvious, by looking at his face tht he is truly interested in what is going on around him. That picture of him looking at the Easter stole, wore by a man who died as a prisoner of war but who gave evrything for his fellow man, is the look of a man who genuinely gets the meaning behind what he is holding. Some, like his predecessor, wouldlook at it and grin, not understanding the solemnity and what this soldier/chaplain gave up and recognizing he was holding a stole representing Easter. Not to get all theological, but the Easter season is all about sacrifice, which is what this man did. And PBO really gets it. That picture, in case you couldn’t tell, really got to me.
And as an aside, when I was studying to be a minister, my goal was to become a chaplain. ,

it occurred to me this morning. all the Hillary talk going on is supposed to INTIMIDATE UP AND COMING DEMOCRATS from going into the primary with her because she is so strong, so unbeatable blah blah blah.
they tried this in 2008 with Obama and failed. and i am hoping that this blows up in their face as well.

Hilary has been a good SOS for the administration but i did not trust the Clinton on bit. they had their time, and it was good. but now their time is up and I want fresh blood, someone with the righteous of a POTUS like the gov of MA or MD….

lastly, i think the pundits that are talking about this like its a done deal fail to understand that Obama supporters are not sheep, nor are they democrats. The support the PERSON and not the PARTY.

      Social Security’s peculiar partisan problem

      By Steve Benen

Right. Carter not only changed the index, he proposed doing so in a way that reduced benefits more than chained-CPI would. Carter also scaled back eligibility rules for Social Security’s disability insurance.

What’s more, in 1993, President Clinton taxed benefits for higher-income Social Security beneficiaries, which had the practical effect of cutting benefits for quite a few retirees. Clinton later said he wanted to cut Social Security even more, reducing benefits by about 1% per year, though Congress wouldn’t go for it.

Taken together, the last Democratic president who didn’t try to make at least some kind of Social Security cuts was President Johnson, who left office more than 44 years ago.
But when it comes to tweaking the program, and even trimming benefits, Obama is hardly the first.

I admit I don’t understand all about the chained CPI, I contact my Congressman today about it, to get some info. But I am starting to wonder if some isn’t making more of this than need to be made. Specially when I learn that other Democrats have made cuts to S.S. to make it stronger. I have to finish watching O’Donnell rewrite tomorrow or Monday night.

You hit the nail on the head, hopefruit2! I am convinced that when objective historians get around to writing the history of the Obama presidency they will conclude that President Obama was the most progressive President compared to all the other Presidents that came before him.

In response to Van….yes, another answer is Jimmy Carter, and it was done to ensure Social Security remained viable. Larry O’Donnell tonight gave a lecture on Frances Perkins and FDR and the origin of Social Security. I don’t tweet, but perhaps someone who does can tween Van and refer him to The Last Word tonight. Larry sets it all out, and PBO is following in FDR’s template and his and Frances Perkins’ plan for Social Security.
EVERYONE of the far left needs to listen to Larry’s lecture tonight. He explained things clearly. He is valuable. Not a knee jerk reaction. What the president is proposing is the right thing to do. ALSO…….at the time of the initiation of SocSEc, the elderly were the biggest poverty group. They are not any more. NOW, childrena are the largest, and PBO tackles improving this age group in his budget.
This segment would be good to have on this blog so we can spread it. This was the second part of what he called “His Love letter to Frances Perkins” the first woman ever on the cabinet, and the true mother of Social Security.

Lawrence O’Donnell is once again the reasonable and informed voice. If I recall, Lawrence O’Donnell was also the only MSNBC pundit who didn’t erupt in anti-Obama hysterics after the first Presidential debate. In fact, he actually said, using the matador and bull analogy, that PBO was simply biding his time and would go for the kill at the appropriate time – which he did.

      • 130 nathkatun7
        April 12, 2013 at 12:42 am

One thing I like very much about Lawrence O’Donnell is his knowledge of how the government, and especially Congress, works. The holier than thou progressives think the President can dictate policies and Congress will simply rubber-stamp everything they want him to do. If you challenge them they quickly invoke FDR and LBJ, without any regard to the context of the times. In most cases, they are usually repeating mythology and not the actual historical records of FDR and LBJ.

Lawrence has been the only pundit who has done his in depth research on Social Security. I hope Van Jones, Ed and all of the Emos are watching his show tonight. Bernie Sanders need to watch also.

Thanks DF. These last two rewrites from Lawrence O’Donnell have been like a mini seminar on Social Security and chained CPI. He is doing a terrific job explaining everything so that even Van Jones should be able to understand it. Once the second segment is available, I am going to send to everyone on my email list.

Agreed, Ladyhawke. Everyone that’s screaming and everyone that’s not, should take time to watch….Frances Perkins deserves a more prominent place in history….as usual, the guys in power take all the credit for the work of a woman. She was insightful, smart and quite amazing, considering the times. Someone that you’d love to talk to…glad that LOD introduced her to us.

    Educating Van Jones:

Social Security Administration says chained CPI protections would reduce poverty among the very elderly

First of all, there is a “benefit enhancement” for the very elderly. The formula (described at the link) is a bit complicated, but here’s the end result:

Because of the benefit enhancement for the very elderly, the Budget proposal would not increase the poverty rate for Social Security beneficiaries, and would slightly reduce poverty among the very elderly according to SSA estimates.
The White House says that without these protections and without “substantial revenue raised through tax reform” – no deal.

So now in the face of overwhelming and irrefutable evidence, he concedes he was wrong. That’s the first step. Will he retract the nasty column he wrote lambasting PBO?

Yes, and the MSNBC article that ladyhawke posted. That’s when he realized his ass was exposed. Now he’s saying “nobody’s perfect” to excuse his shooting from the hip. But he did not grant PBO the “nobody’s perfect” excuse when lambasting him in the media.

As usual. They ALL think they’re “perfect” when they start slamming things they don’t fully understand….then it’s ” Opps, sorry” when they screw up…can’t put the lie back in the bottle though! He better apologize and then re write the story to stand corrected.

DF, I totally agree with you and HF! Van Jones needs to write an apology for savaging the President! based on mythology.
