‘Put points on the board faster than Plutocrats can take them away’

by Zizi

The one thing the Professional Left (PL) and their Emoprog cohort don’t seem to realize about Pres Obama is that unlike them he KNOWS the depth of nihilistic destruction that the GOP and their corporate backers are prepared to unleash on this country.

Emos have no clue what the stakes are, being stuck as they are on the eras of FDR & LBJ. The Conservative movement has evolved into a more powerful malignant force since their defeats in the 1930s & 1960s. It is a force that continues to destroy whether their minions hold political power or NOT. Destructive force is easier to deploy than constructive building which liberals-Democrats try to do. Our societal building task is harder, less understood and prone to being demagogued by the conservative retrogressives. The PL is oblivious to the asymmetrical nature of our struggle.

We don’t have the institutional structures to fight the plutocrats mano-a-mano on their turf. We don’t! We can only fight them using guerrilla strategies & tactics. No amount of Bully pulpiting or screaming “progressive chants”, or “twisting arms a la LBJ” is gonna dent the power of the wingnuts’ backers. Those are the facts. They have the power and money and nihilistic bent to destroy us all without batting an eye.

The PL-Emos don’t realize that the $32 Trillion that the plutocrats have stashed in tax havens means that THEY DON’T CARE what happens to this country and the people in it. NADA. Unlike the barons of the gilded age who were at least propelled by some sense of nationalism, today’s plutocrats feel no allegiance to this country. It is only a place to exploit for $$$, and feudalize us against our will.

They can and will SURVIVE our demise. Their red state rubes live vicariously through the ideological fog of their corporate masters and are prepared to do their bidding. Why? they don’t believe they themselves deserve anything or social protection beyond the crumbs that their puppeteers give them, so long as they get the satisfaction of knowing that “those people” (minorities, liberals, gays, immigrants etc…) don’t share the crumbs with them.

So that is the America we have NOW, and it is the country Pres Obama must captain at this precarious time. How should he do it?

1. Put points on the board faster than Plutocrats can take them away:

a) He pushed for and got a critical safety net for the poor and the Middle Class in the form of Obamacare bringing our safety nets to 3 (SS, Medicare/Medicaid & Obamacare). The plutocrats’ response came in the form of Paul Ryan’s thrice voted on budget that threatens to privatize SS & Medicare while eliminating Medicaid (“block-grants” are how you kill a program).

2. Fight wildfire with controlled fire:

a) The Chained CPI is the “controlled fire” to guard against the Ryan budget blitzkrieg if GOP gets the reins of power (not that they won’t keep trying). Deaniac explains the policy implications of the Chained CPI on TPV so I won’t do that here. The PL-Emos never tell us what they would do to “SAVE” SS & Medicare/Medicaid if Ryan’s budget gets signed into law by a GOP president. When the WH aide said “we are not gonna be in the WH forever”, what he is referring to is the need for us NOW to shape the future trajectory of the safety net. Cuz if we don’t, the GOP will. It’s as simple as that!

b) Case in point: Women’s dwindling rights.

The women’s movement rested on its laurels and was slow to shape the narrative and state-by-state policy about women’s reproductive freedom. Result? Roe v. Wade is an empty law on the books, cuz wingnut Taliban have systematically dismantled women’s rights state by state, locality by locality. And look where we are today? Reduced to trashing POTUS for complimenting an Attorney General while state after state (blue & red) passes personhood amendments, banning abortion clinics.

Women’s organizations did not fight wildfire with controlled fire. POTUS saved critical women’s rights in Obamacare, while ceding the meaningless repetition of Hyde Amendment in the bill to the conservadems. The real policy benefits for women have been left intact

This is the exact strategy the president is doing with his budget — head off real disaster by making symbolic concessions.

“People get paid $100 million to throw a baseball! Shouldn’t we all take less and pass some of that money onto others? Think about firefighters, teachers and policemen. We should celebrate people that are intellectually smart and trying to make this world a better place.”

    ….

    From Rolling Stone:

“That’s one of the times I’m fucking embarrassed to be a Republican,” he seethes. “It’s fucking Republican lawmakers passing those laws, you dumbasses. They already did it in New York and they’re trying to do it in Michigan. I’ve even called some of those guys to try and stop it.”

Both FDR and LBJ, even Carter had far more Dem Senators and House members to work with. None has the House in GOPer control. Clinton has 6 yrs of GOPer control and look at the many laws that Pres Obama had to redo. They also had North East GOPers who also wanted to govern and who believed that Science and Infrastructure were part of a Civilized nation.

Those Romantics who long for what once were, Never mention the legislative advantage those POTUS’ from yesteryears had.

Today, TBGOPers since 1995 have been willing to hold the nation Hostage. The media is no longer holding those who are in the wrong accountable. Citizens are less informed even though, now we have more places to seek and obtain information. However, We have become dumber as a nation, We have become collectively inept of what a True Citizen is all about.

    Great Posts.

Good reminder, Nena. This is the worst Congress that any president has had to deal with. They are actively working to undermine him and the country. Truly the enemy within.

And they have friends in the media – left and right who benefited tremendously from the neglect of the Bush years and other presidencies, and who are now pissed that they too will have to make some damn sacrifices for a change in order to get this country back on track. For too long this country has been subsisting on the backs of the poorest (usually minority) communities, and these damn limousine liberals like maddow and her friends have been chirping along happily, engaging in their usual slacktivism while benefiting from all the abuses that were going on.

Now they hypocritically shout and yell because their cover is being exposed, slowly but surely. PBO is the real deal and he’s not playing any games.

Remember, Rush said before the inauguration that they wanted this POTUS to fail. Then on Jan 20, 2009, 20 TBGOPers including Newt Gingrich held a Political Coup de’tat against this President. Never heard of and Our National media found out and have yet to hold the TBGOPers accountable.

Al Qaeda declared war on USA. What is the excuse for these TBGOPers? Who Loves You, America?

I need reminding as to what Pres Clinton did – other than get attacked for an indiscretion and not pass health care reform. Did I read somewhere that he deregulated the banks? – well that worked well for about 10 years and then Ahhhhhhhhhhh

DADT. DOMA. He helped in the Consolidation of the media. That led to the elimination of the fairness doctrine. Glass/Segall(sp). Etc.

Then there were NAFTA, CAFTA, those helped in exporting our manufacturing jobs overseas.

Thank you Nena. I would not even have known what those letters meant in the 1990s – TOD has been well educating me because I only had to look up CAFTA (should have been able to guess it from NAFTA )

Not much in the way of liberal ideas – I had forgotten about the media – we used to have rules in my world about not being allowed to own multiple types of media – and then the Newspaper people wanted to buy the television stations – and so they did – sigh

So after Dr. Ben Carson showed his ass at the prayer breakfast, he was the brand new invincible hero of the far-right.

Then people started to hear from their new hero and things went south fast… Edwina3 posted in the last thread:

“Neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson stepped down Wednesday as commencement speaker at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine after complaints from students about controversial comments concerning same-sex marriage.”

This pattern is not new. Ask any members of the the Dissing President Obama Implosion Club, like Palin, Beck, Cain, the anti-Obamacare CEOs.

Disrespecting President Obama only gets you so far. Eventually, people start to focus on you. And if you have nothing to offer but hate and disrespect, that’s not going to sustain you.

It has come to the point where Lawrence is the one person at MSNBC I can rely on half the time – even though he’s not always right about the outcome when he speculates. But when he gives historical contexts of policy making, he’s usually accurate with his knowledge of facts and it’s always informative and enlightening.

That is why I love Lawrence he always put the issues into perspectives. I am tired of those on the extreme of both political spectrum who are always demanding things go their way. Well if they believe they can do better than the Prez why don’t some of those loud mouth band wagonists run for office. I will never forget when everyone of those pundits and so called journalists were talking about the Prez going to lose Lawrence never doubted that President Obama would get a second term and of course Chips

See what I mean? Just a few weeks (or months) ago, a few TODers were worried that PBO had signed a bill that would entail slaughtering horses. I told them to be careful about pulling info from questionable sources (in this case it was some animal rights group). I doubt that PBO would encourage the slaughter of horses for kicks and giggles – there had to be a story that was not being properly told.

So for all of you wondering: “Just how does LL cook his rice?”

Well, I used to have a fancy shmancy rice cooker. Said cooker croaked. Then I discovered you can just make rice in a pot and it tastes just as good. Just monitor said rice to avoid overcooking, and you’re golden.

Consider this your cooking tip of the day. (Which I would never give to my mother. She is wedded to her rice cooker.)

Rice I can cook in a pot – bread – I needed a breadmaker. Problem with making my own bread – it is so fresh & yummy I ate way too much – so I gave away the breadmaker but I did discover that it is super easy to make bread rolls in the oven. Use the same flour etc as for the breadmaker – but make a small batch – cook as little rolls – perfect.

I only use my rice cooker to hard boil a lot of eggs for what ever. I put a dozen eggs in it & cold water up to the line, turn it on & wait till the light goes on that says keep warm. I turn it off & have perfect hard cooked eggs every time. I cook rice on top of the stove.

USA is still the Lion. Little Kim really should not Touch the Lion’s Tail. He is just too stupid to know what he is in for.

      • April 10, 2013 at 11:26 pm

The Beeb had a very cogent analysis.

No, Lil’ Kim doesn’t want war. But he has to prove himself in his people’s eyes, so he has to cause a ruckus. This is all for show. If, by some madness, he decides to push things too far, he will learn quite quickly what pulling the tiger’s tail will bring him.

I have come to the conclusion the Liberals in the media are in on it, and the joke is on the People.
They attack from the left, they have their scripts, and they have at it, always the same meme, to demonjze and weaken this President and then complain that he doesn’t get things done.
It’s a Ruse- they are all running a big scam and K street is in charge.
2014 is right there for us, probably still us, as Republicans are all over reaching, people are suck of all the stone walling.

Lord, you folks have been busy on the blog today. It is going to take me eons to catch up!

Today has just been one of those hellified days! Woke up at 11:15 am — my offices hours were scheduled to begin at 11:00! Wireless kept going out, therefore, I had difficulty printing reports needed for tonight’s municipal meeting; gave up around 4:15 and made copies at the Borough office. Was triple booked for this evening (wake, non-profit dinner meeting, and municipal meeting) — showered around 5 and promptly fell asleep! Just woke up about an hour ago. Oh, well… glad I delivered my reports this afternoon.

Now, need to work on the next big project — MY INCOME TAX! Mind you, I’ve completed taxes for fifty-eleven different folks (including my ex-husband) and haven’t even started mine! Time to get on it. Have a great night!

Police have shot dead a gunman holding four firefighters hostage in a house outside the US city of Atlanta.

The firefighters suffered minor injuries from stun grenades armed police threw in the rescue raid.

One officer was shot in the hand or arm in the gunfight with the captor, who had demanded his electricity and telephone service be restored.

The firefighters were taken to hospital but were expected to be released later on Wednesday evening, police said.
