A tip to blog mini tyrants.

Keep chips posted about your posts by twitter DM or e-mail or by simply posting your proposed time in the latest thread.

    • April 10, 2013 at 12:29 pm

My fault Amk, I promised to come up with a plan ….. but, err, didn’t. We’ll get it sorted!

Or we could follow my simple plan above.

        • April 10, 2013 at 12:38 pm

Thanks Amk. I think the best idea might be for the next poster – especially me! – to leave a msg in the current post letting everyone know a new one is coming. I won’t always see DMs and emails in time, so that might be the best option. Also too, I’ll try to plan the days better, ie check the blog tyrants’ availability to post, get the timing right for heads ups, etc. Leave it with me!

UT, SOOOOOOOOOO sorry, I did it again, posted right after you 😳

    I’m a mess!!!

Just made your post private for now because i had the live YouTube video for the budget briefing in the newer one, but you can use those blissful pics in your next post??

WASHINGTON — Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul says Republicans face a “daunting task” in connecting with black voters and are often cast as “uncaring” in their policies – something that he says he wants to change.

Paul, a potential 2016 presidential candidate, says in a speech at Howard University that he hopes black voters will be more open to the Republican Party. He says members of his party support policies like school choice, economic opportunity and the decriminalization of drug laws, issues he says would appeal to blacks.

Paul’s speech at the historically black college was briefly interrupted when a young man unfurled a banner that included the words “white supremacy.” He was removed from the auditorium.

He says Democrats supported Jim Crow laws a century ago that discriminated against blacks.

Hey Rand…Some of us are old enough to remember that those Southern Dems are now all Republicans

    His statement is condescending

      April 10, 2013 at 12:35 pm

Republicans support the decriminalization of drug laws ??? Libertarians like Paul do, but the republican party ? I very much doubt it.

And the argument that democrats supported Jim Crow laws a century ago is pretty pathetic. Every person who has a basic knowledge of history of the political parties is very well aware that the Dixiecrats have migrated to the republican party.

      Intellectual dishonesty and pandering.

Rand Paul gutsily chose to speak today at Howard University. Inevitably, the uncomfortable subject of the 1964 Civil Rights Act came up, and Paul, non-gutsily, handled the awkwardness by lying: “I have never wavered in my support for civil rights or the civil rights act.”

Does Paul know what the word wavered means? Just to be sure I wasn’t making some horrible mistake, I looked it up. Because he has definitely wavered. He’s wavered publicly, repeatedly, and at tedious length. Read more: http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2013/04/rand-paul-pretends-he-favored-civil-rights-act.html

Yes, lots of research on the value of persistent ‘adult talk’ including reading during the first 3 years of life. It is one of the strongest predictors of subsequent learning success and all that depends on being able to think and communicate effectively.

My oldest granddaughter, a brand new mommy, told me she never uses baby talk with her now-two-year-old son, and she speaks to him as though he understands everything she’s saying. In the grocery store, she will pick up two flavors of something and say to him in the cart, do you want this flavor or that flavor, and he picks one. I complimented her for that little routine, and added that it also helps him from being the crying little boy in the store thinking he’s not getting the colorful goodie off the shelf that he wanted because nobody asked him!

Hope you followed that, because I drifted off picturing his adorable face at some point …

“U.S. Postal Service will keep Saturday delivery”

The financially strapped U.S. Postal Service will keep delivering first-class mail on Saturday because Congress has left it no choice but to continue, the service’s board of governors said on Wednesday.

The Postal Service, which lost $16 billion last year, said in February it wanted to switch to five-day mail delivery to save $2 billion annually. But Congress passed legislation in March that mandates that mail be delivered six days a week.

The Postal Service, an independent agency not funded by taxpayers, has said it could need a taxpayer bailout of more than $47 billion by 2017 if Congress does not give it flexibility to change its business model and provide it relief from huge benefit payments.

It had planned to drop Saturday first-class mail delivery in August.

Ending six-day, first-class mail delivery is part of the Postal Service’s larger plan to cut costs and raise revenues.

The mail carrier loses $25 million each day. The vast majority of the losses come from heavy mandatory payments into its future retirees’ health fund take a toll, but it has also suffered as more Americans communicate by email and the Internet.

I am very torn on this. I like Zerlina Maxwell. I agree with her most of the time but she is STILL equating Pres.Obama’s compliment of Kamala Harris to street harassment. Yet when she’s called on it, she denies that that is what she is doing. I don’t want to unfollow her but I can’t stand this anymore.

There is such thing as street harassment but not every compliment given by a man is street harassment.

    • April 10, 2013 at 1:02 pm

Dylan Byers asks her if Obama’s compliment was street harassment and she says she’s moving beyond Obama. But she still uses that moment to push her issues.

    • April 10, 2013 at 1:09 pm

She is doing no woman any favors by conflating a kind & accurate statement (made by a long-time friend) just to attack our President. Her behavior on this topic reveals how much psychiatric help she still needs to overcome her personal trauma – which I hope she seeks – and eventually finds enough peace and wisdom to realize that her behavior has been divisive, inflammatory, and unjust.

      • 68 jacquelineoboomer
        April 10, 2013 at 2:31 pm

Amen. Some of her trauma that she still needs to address (and I am NOT trivializing its origins) is that she is attributing acts of others not directed at her as victimizing her, and not distinguishing between harassment and a statement between friends.

Unfollow her already. She’s a grifter who has equated POTUS to a rapist and a pimp. Why would you want to follow someone like that? She’s no one special and she has nothing important to say.

      • April 10, 2013 at 1:22 pm

I agree, unfollow, based upon that really faulty logic alone. She just trolling us at this poing and working her 15 minutes hard. God bless her on her healing journey but she is not a voice that I find credible for women’s issues.

      • April 10, 2013 at 1:28 pm

I know. I know. Even if I unfollow, she’s still going to be Rt’d into my timeline. I can’t stop that.

    • April 10, 2013 at 1:20 pm

She has lost the plot – I admired her too, but she is reveling in the attention her reaction to this silliness has earned her, so she just won’t let it go. To me at least, her arguments about PBO’s comment are moronic.

      • April 10, 2013 at 1:28 pm

I think so too. She couldn’t find another starting point to this “larger conversation”? She says she’s moved on and that we should too but why did she just RT a comment about teaching Obama to be better? GTFOH!!!

I once had the partner of the consulting firm I worked at (at the time) and another senior consultant ask me to walk past their office again so they could ogle me in my new suit. This was in a different and developing country, so there was no recourse, but I think most women these days can tell the difference between harassment and a compliment. We’re not so delicate.

      • 76 jacquelineoboomer
        April 10, 2013 at 2:50 pm

Not to bore anybody with this by chronic repetition, but as Gloria Steinem said (something like), “Now, we call it sexual harassment. We used to just call it life.” Luckily, in this country, in the workplace, we’ve come a long way in preventing and addressing sexual harassment. Using that term, which is a REALLY SERIOUS term, when addressing a compliment to a friend, in front of others at a private gathering and not in a dark hallway somewhere, is deleterious to the cause.

      • April 10, 2013 at 3:17 pm

Oh and here we go again! I see a few people in my time line saying that Pres.Obama is being offensive when he says mothers, daughters, etc. Has Robert Portman not taught us anything? There are a lot of men who don’t respond to women’s rights until it affects the people( in this case women) in THEIR family? Lots of people don’t think “oh this could happen to me and mine” UNTIL you point out that they’re loved ones are not immune or could benefit from more rights for women?

    I just can’t today. I can’t.

question-so with the sequester cuts in place for a while now, shouldn’t “government spending” be decreasing at historic levels right now? are theere numbers out yet about this?

republicans for years have gone and and on about wanting to reduce spending, so they’re getting what they say they want in a big way (yes, I know they’re lying), and what they say is supposed to help grow the economy. So republicans and the media should stop pushing the “tax and spend” messaging they’ve associated with democrats these last several decades, correct? (yes, that’s rhetorical…i do know the answer).
