Well, I was at the end of the last post, talking to myself, but I am proud of what happened so will bring it here.
Sunday morning our pastor said that sometimes civil disobedience is necessary and spiritual. He then said that someone from Mayflower would be participating in this kind of action this week, and smiled toward the right front of the sanctuary.
Well, this evening we watched Chris Hayes (excellent segment on the positive outlook for gun legislation) In his Click 3 segment, the second picture was of a small lady who chained herself to the XL pipeline in Oklahoma. He showed her picture clearly, gave her name, and wow! There was the lady from our church. Tiny, but determined. She was able to postpone their working for 3 to 4 hours. I am proud to know her and proud of her for doing this. She is a very bright woman and very concerned with what’s going on. Her car is covered with stickers for many liberal causes.
So glad to be able to report this after the stupid statement by Jim Inhofe today!!!
Have to report that I got two of my college colleagues to write our senators today about gun legislation.
Well, Rachel just showed the tape of stupid Inhofe in all his ignorance. She said this is the first tape of that now infamous interview. It’s out there for all the world to see. She said so far he has “not responded to their entreties for a response.” The filibuster has lost…Inhofe has lost. This is a GOOD day. The president knew what he was doing when he took those Newtown parents to D.C. on Air Force One.
She stated that now for the first time we have an even fight. The Newtown parents have hired a lobbying firm to work for and with them. I said a couple of days ago that one difference with the Newtown group is that they have time and money to keep this going. Previous groups of victims did not have the resources for this. The equation is now changed.
That’s great news, Carolyn. It is long past time for the momentum to change. So glad the Newtown parents are doing this in a sustained and professional way rather than trying to appeal to the non-existent better nature of Republican senators.
Thank you Carolyn, for bringing over from the last thread (with timely updates, to boot).
MSM really needs to take a hard look at itself and issue corrections when they’re wrong. This is standard practice for (the dying) print media, but Chuck Tod blatantly LIED yesterday on his program, saying that the support for gun safety was trailing off after the gruesome Sandy Hook massacre.
WTH?
He said this on-air about 12 hours after the heartwrenchin 60 Minut4s interview with the courageous parents (and some callous local lawmakers).
He said this when he KNEW President Obama would be speaking Connecticut that very same day.
His head is too big for his hat and he should be disciplined.
The biggest tragedy in all this is that he serves as a mentor to young Luke Russert, who is learning that being an arrogant lying clown is how to ahead in TV-world. To me, Chuck Todd is the polar opposite of Tim Russert, who seemed like a *genuine* *caring* man.
Thanks Carolyn for sharing this! You must have an incredible Church with a courageous pastor. Bravo for your fellow Church member for her courage in standing up for right. I apologize for coming down hard on Oklahoma voters who voted for James Inhofe. Obviously, Inhofe does not represent ethical Oklahomans like you and members of your Church. I was also lamenting the passing of the good old days when Oklahoma elected real progressive people, like Fred Harris, to the U.S. Senate.
That performance at the White House was so much fun! I was acting like I was in the audience. Clapping, cheering, answering back when Dana asked me if I was having a good time! Oh, these are special times at the White House.
TOMS RIVER, N.J. — A 6-year-old boy is hospitalized in serious condition Tuesday after he was accidentally shot in the head Monday night, apparently by a 4-year-old neighbor with a .22-caliber rifle, police said.
He died tonight. New neighbors with 3 kids all with names related to guns/hunting—–one of them the 4 yr. old who somehow got his hands on a loaded gun and shot his new friend in the head at close range. His home said to be over-stocked with guns.
I heard on the news today about some guy who was showing off his gun, it might have been a officer, and some 4 year old grab the gun and shot the officer’s wife. Now I ask what the heck was that person showing off a gun for in front of a kid. I hope I got the facts right.
Dotster, how are the parents of that 4-year old not criminals. How could they allow such easy access to guns? They shouldn’t be allowed to shirk this off as an “accident.” These parents are culpable.
This is absolutely insane! I am for prosecuting the parents of the 4-year-old for criminal negligence for not securing a loaded gun out of reach of children.
Bobfr, our total Warrior, my sphone & WP seem to need intervention today! Left u a message @ This & That re: grabbing OFA names: is Opt For Action gone?
Bob, you are amazing. I stand in awe. The right wing mobsters think they will defeat us with their dirty tricks, but they always underestimate their opposition.
Okay. I did get to see Queen Latifah sing and the ending. Really a treat to see this at the WH.
Everyone needed this including us. It is amazing that we have such a fantastic couple who is so alive and so gets it.
I admire the girls and their friend who bravely sat through this and looked interested.
99ts, I did it!
Talking to myself over yonder and did “bring it over”
I was so afraid that I was going to end up in your backyard……
Thank you.
Okay. now,I am ready Mr. Bobfr for my close up( a.k.a tweet)
I doubt anyone on this blog will disagree (who knows, maybe someone) but “Hail to the Chief” SUCKS and has ALWAYS SUCKED. Seriously, I just HATE it. YES it needed to be played during PBO’s first term because….duh – OUR PRESIDENT. I would LOVE it if he would pick something else to replace it in his 2nd term. (Green Onions? Ok. But I can think of LOTS of other things.) And then future president’s can pick a song that is in keeping with America’s ideals but based on their ……….umm…whatever, style, story, etc. Oh cr*p: Future President’s. DEEEPRESSING.
I don’t mind Hail to the Chief as long as it’s played for President Obama. I DESPISED it when it was played for GWB. It’s traditional and short…..I would dislike for POTUS to get any less recognition than previous presidents.
I imagine there’s LOTS of the pomp and regalia he wishes he could do without. But overtly rejecting a lot of that did NOT work out for President Carter and lots of Americans expect that traditional….I’ll be nice and just say “stuff’. Yet PBO has commented that Airforce 1 is very nice. BUT AIRFORCE 1 IS very nice and the president needs it for a host reasons that are practical and symbolic.
In an old movie, 1996, Jack Lemmon and James Garner, in “My Fellow Americans” play ex-presidents from opposite parties. They hate each other, but collaborate for the good of the country. Hillarious. They discuss how they hated Hail to the Chief. Lemons choice of words to sing in his head while he heard it played…. [Russell Kramer’s made-up words to “Hail to the Chief.”]
Russell Kramer: Hail to the chief, he’s the chief and he needs hailing. He is the chief, so everybody hail like crazy. Hail to… that’s more or less how it… I’m Baaack, for a little while. 😎
Okay, delurking here. Hi TOD, just had to say…..damn there are some old folks on this blog, anytime you all remember “Green Onions”. Just kidding, though. 😀 I was in 7th grade when that came out. Good show, and PBO–very strategic standing off to the side.
Wow. Just ….. WOW. ALMOST speechless here. THANK YOU SO MUCH CAROLMAEWY. Whew!! Trying to clear my head and catch my breath. THE SINGLE GREATEST piece of music AND music video ever. EVER. The musicianship! The STAGE PRESENCE!!!! EXEMPLARY, UNMATCHED PRODUCTION VALUE. I’m changing my will ASAP becuase THAT definitely gets played at my funeral!!!!!!!!!
Dotser3: in so many ways…….and never got the credit. Pat Boone, also sang his version of others songs. My sisters had albums of AfroAmerican singers with white artists pictures. They would listen all night to the Memphis Sound. It was mesmerizing! It still is.
😎 😎 President Barack Obama cracks me up when he laughs at himself with the little chuckle he has at the end of that silence he gives after he tells a jokey-joke. He is just too cool! 😎 😎
And reposting this from yesterday (before President Obama’s Hartford speech) because @MichaelScherer’s original tweet didn’t display on one of yesterday’s threads:
We talk about Motown alot, but that Memphis sound was real good too. And what’s up with Al Green? He couldn’t sing at the when the President and First Lady had their dance, and Jennifer Hudson sang. Now he couldn’t make it tonight. Next time POTUS need to sing some Steve Wonder.
Alycee, this brings back so many memories! I am so happy that we are remembering all these incredibly talented musicians/artists. Way back in the 1920’s, W.E.B. DuBois wrote a book (which is now forgotten) entitled “The Gift of Black Folks” In it he discussed what Black people had contributed to the United States. Among the many gifts, he listed three main gifts: (1) The gift of story and song; (2) The gift of sweat and brawn; and (3) The gift of the Spirit. Undoubtedly, America has received many gifts from many different cultures and peoples, but it’s undeniable that African Americans have given so much to what became America. What continues to baffle me are white supremacists who still regard African Americans as outsiders and African American culture as outside the main stream culture.
Hi EDP4BHO, so good to see you. Yes, we are dating ourselves. That is one thing that we have to enjoy on this beautiful haven, our TOD Family. We are a true representation of America: young, old and from all backgrounds who allow the most beautiful love to pass through our beautiful ‘spirits of goodness.’, to dwell here with us as we enjoy and work hard for our president.
Did anyone see how there was such a beautiful glow to our president tonight? It was just so apparent tonight. I love each moment of the concert. We all needed this tonight. I am so grateful to be a part of this beautiful TOD Family.HZ
Hello HZ – Yes indeed, I did notice that special glow on our President tonight! Glad that you enjoyed the concert too. It was a wonderful evening for all. 🙂
Yes HZ, I did notice the glow on both the President and First Lady! As far as I am concerned, music brings out our true humanity by transcending age, gender, race, ethnicity, etc. One thing I love about TOD are all the people who post a variety of music. Although my favorite posters are Yardarm and Dudette, I still love and appreciate all the music posted here. Tonight, Alycee has been on fire, sharing many oldies that were popular, and meant so much, when I was young/
Follow @AnthonyYorkLAT for live-tweet updates of @GovJerryBrown in China.
Not only is this an important economic trip for the entire USA, but we may be able to negotiate access to their clean energy (solar) production in exchange for helping with Beijing’s abominable air quality (not sure how, just a wild guess on my part).
Jeez, just as I pressed “post comment,” I thought to myself “how could you have left off Nath and Tally, consistent regulars on this blog, from whom I learn so much.”
Thanks for the heads up, Arapaho415 – I still have a bit of doubt about him, but am trying to keep an open mind. This helps! I hope their trip is successful.
POTUS will be releasing his budget tomorrow, then he will have dinner with those Republicans tomorrow night. And FLOTUS will give her speech in Chicago. Anyone have any information about what time and were we can see her please let me know. Please.
Let me prepare the meal for the Republicans, I scrap up some of the road kill on the highway and put it in a pot and add alittle salt, pepper, rice, and wine. It would be just for our Republicans friends. Serve with love.
I’ll leave it up to someone else to prepare their dessert. Sh*t pie. To the Republicans with all our love. With alittle pee wine on the side. Let me stop it.
Bob, you owe me a key board which I am cleaning as I type! Thankfully I was just drinking water and not coffee! I just couldn’t contain myself because your comment was deliciously hilarious!
First Lady will visit a high school hit hard by violence after her lunch mtg. with Mayor Rahm and bsns. leaders on ways to combat youth violence. 29 kids in that high school have been shot in the last year, 8 fatally. Isn’t that unbelievable? 29 teenagers from one high school have been shot this year.
Alycee, you are killing me with all these oldies but goodies! Confession: My first girlfriend in college loved Jean Knight- and especially this song. The 60’s and 70’s were such interesting times.
A secret recording of Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and aides discussing in February how they might attack actor/activist Ashley Judd, then a potential 2014 challenger to McConnell, attracted widespread attention after Mother Jones published it Tuesday morning. Much of the news coverage focused on the McConnell team’s comments about Judd’s religious views and her mental-health history. But the tape might raise ethics questions for McConnell and his staff.
Senate ethics rules prohibit Senate employees from participating in political activities while on government time. But the tape indicates that several of McConnell’s legislative aides, whose salaries are paid by the taxpayer, were involved with producing the oppo research on Judd that was discussed at the February 2 meeting.
I can hear him now. “First, the left attacked my wife’s ethnicity, then they bugged my office, and now they’re attacking my staff.” Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!
b. Bribery Amendments
Congress has also modernized the bribery provision originally enacted in 1853. In its 1962
overhaul of the corruption and conflict-of-interest laws, Congress brought the disparate bribery provisions that then applied to various categories of government officials ‘‘within the purview of one
section and ma[d]e uniform the proscribed acts of bribery, as well as the intent or purpose making
them unlawful.’’ S. Rep. No. 87–2213, 87th Cong., 2d Sess. 7 (1962), reprinted in 1962 U.S.
Code Cong. & Admin. News 3852, 3856. The new omnibus provision provided for punishment
for any public official, including a Member of Congress, who ‘‘directly or indirectly, corruptly
asks, demands, exacts, solicits, seeks, accepts, receives, or agrees to receive anything of value for
himself or for any other person or entity, in return for . . . being influenced in his performance
of any official act’’ and defined ‘‘official act’’ as ‘‘any decision or action on any question, matter,
cause, suit, proceeding or controversy, which may at any time be pending, or which may by law
be brought before any public official, in his official capacity, or in his place of trust or profit.’’
Corporations aren’t giving them shit tons of $$ for nothing! They expect something in return for their investment! Sounds like a bribe to me!
Bob, you are amazing! You are already on top of this breaking story. May be you can send a similar tweet to my Senator, Barbara Boxer, who I think is still chair of the Senate Ethics Committee.
Yo!
Congrats LL on #1 🙂
HF #2!
LL!
LL (or as Dudette calls ya, LibLib) thanks for representin’ CA in the gold position tonight.
Just like Gov Brown is representin’ us in China right now.
More on this downthread.
Congrats!
Howdy LL, Congrats!
Anyway it’s really something when folks are hoping that their President will sing after a live taping of a concert!
Oh I KNOW!!! Remember how we would wait with bated breath, hoping W would sing to us?? 😆 (again, thank you Lord, that he did NOT!) 😆
HAHAHAHAHA! I don’t remember that either 🙂
HOOOO-RAH!!
The song is “Green Onions” from back in the day around 1965.
and I was just sitting here thinking “wish they’d played Green Onions…”
Congrats LL!
Thanks for the name.
Yes indeed “Green Onions” by Booker T. and the Mgs! I think it first came out either in 1964 or 1965.
In election news… IL-02, Jessie Jackson Jr.’s old seat.
I have to give some credit to Bloomberg—-non-stop anti-NRA ads, linked to her opponents.
Agree.
Came home just in time for the last 7 minutes – I can imagine how wonderful the entire show will be 🙂
CTGirl, I’m not trying to rub it in but the show was gooooooooooooooooooooooooood. I hope you can see it. 🙂
I think maybe one less ” o ” would be “not rubbing it in,” but I feel the same way, so who am I to criticize! 🙂
Lol! Too funny! I really hope I will catch it 🙂
🙂
Change we can believe in! I WISH we could go with that and not “Hail to the Chief” 🙂 That would be great! Head’s would explode ALL the time!

That’s great news, Carolyn. It is long past time for the momentum to change. So glad the Newtown parents are doing this in a sustained and professional way rather than trying to appeal to the non-existent better nature of Republican senators.

TOMS RIVER, N.J. — A 6-year-old boy is hospitalized in serious condition Tuesday after he was accidentally shot in the head Monday night, apparently by a 4-year-old neighbor with a .22-caliber rifle, police said.
Tell me again why a 4 yo had a gun in his hands?
He was exercising his Second Amendment right.
I just saw on twitter that the boy has died. Another senseless tragedy.
He died tonight. New neighbors with 3 kids all with names related to guns/hunting—–one of them the 4 yr. old who somehow got his hands on a loaded gun and shot his new friend in the head at close range. His home said to be over-stocked with guns.
Dear god. These people need to be saved from themselves.
I heard on the news today about some guy who was showing off his gun, it might have been a officer, and some 4 year old grab the gun and shot the officer’s wife. Now I ask what the heck was that person showing off a gun for in front of a kid. I hope I got the facts right.
I think there would be many more accidental shootings like your example if teachers were to have guns in the classrooms.

Hi Gazelle, Didn’t see it, but in response to your ? …. It is now 🙂
#FORWARD
Awesome! #forward, as you always do! Hugs!
Awesomeness!
🙂
Bob, you are amazing. I stand in awe. The right wing mobsters think they will defeat us with their dirty tricks, but they always underestimate their opposition.
True!! 🙂
And, we’ve got some really spectacular hackers we can call on in a pinch 😉
Okay. I did get to see Queen Latifah sing and the ending. Really a treat to see this at the WH.

I don’t mind Hail to the Chief as long as it’s played for President Obama. I DESPISED it when it was played for GWB. It’s traditional and short…..I would dislike for POTUS to get any less recognition than previous presidents.
From what I understand, Pres. Obama doesn’t exactly enjoy the ‘hail to the chief” song. I thought I read that somewhere, wish I could remember where…
I imagine there’s LOTS of the pomp and regalia he wishes he could do without.
That would be perfect Bob
It sucks. Hard.
In an old movie, 1996, Jack Lemmon and James Garner, in “My Fellow Americans” play ex-presidents from opposite parties. They hate each other, but collaborate for the good of the country. Hillarious. I remember that movie and that dialogue. Garner’s words were half bleeped, and Lemmon’s eyes got big. That was a funny sequence.
Funny how we remember those little things about the movie. I loved the parade and then the SS who saved them at the end. 😎
Okay, delurking here. Hi TOD, just had to say…..damn there are some old folks on this blog, anytime you all remember “Green Onions”. Just kidding, though. 😀 I was in 7th grade when that came out. Good show, and PBO–very strategic standing off to the side.
Ah, you’re right EDP4BHO, lots of oldies here – I wasn’t born until, like, 24 years after it came out.
CAN YOU POST “96 TEARS” BY………hehehehe.. YOU KNOW!!

Hi EDP4BHO, it has been a while! And ‘Pshaw!’ in response to ‘I wasn’t born until….24 years after..’
You are a youngster EDP4BHO! I think I was a sophomore or a junior in HS when “Green Onions” first came out.
I was just thinking—-Memphis —–and Elvis—-he grew up with that music too—-which greatly influenced his style.
Dotser3: in so many ways…….and never got the credit. Pat Boone, also sang his version of others songs. My sisters had albums of AfroAmerican singers with white artists pictures. They would listen all night to the Memphis Sound. It was mesmerizing! It still is.
Don’t even mention Pat Boone, he is one of those christian who is a Obama hater.
PBO on a stroll…
AHHHH…..sorry guys thought I formatted it to the proper size.
Lovelyplains, I will look at President Obama in whatever size you choose to share him!! 😎 😀
😆 😆 😆 I’d bet, Ison!
Heh!
It’s perfect. I love the big photo. Shows the magnificence of the White House and frames our President perfectly.
Ahh..LP. This is DC at its most gorgeous and the trees are great, too.
😎 😎 President Barack Obama cracks me up when he laughs at himself with the little chuckle he has at the end of that silence he gives after he tells a jokey-joke. He is just too cool! 😎 😎
Yes, I’m looking forward to that chuckle at the WHCD to be held on the 27th of this month! 🙂
Reinforcing Carolyn’s update above:
And reposting this from yesterday (before President Obama’s Hartford speech) because @MichaelScherer’s original tweet didn’t display on one of yesterday’s threads:
For those still in the partay mood:
We weren’t sitting on our butts whenever/wherever Green Onions was playing in 1967 😀 😀 😀
nah, we sure weren’t. Heck, I’m about to breakout my Stax box set…
That’s the absolute TRUTH, Bob! I even remember this song being played during the Civil Rights marches jus to energize people.
and got to have some Otis:
Thank Alycee for posting one of my favorite singers, especially “Sittin’ on the Dock of the Bay. So cool. 😎
You’re very welcome. Laying here having a party in my bed.
😉
Alycee, Otis was the man! I still have the LP with this song! Unfortunately, my turn table no longer works.
and the last song he recorded:
We talk about Motown alot, but that Memphis sound was real good too. And what’s up with Al Green? He couldn’t sing at the when the President and First Lady had their dance, and Jennifer Hudson sang. Now he couldn’t make it tonight. Next time POTUS need to sing some Steve Wonder.
Motown, Stax and Philly International each had a unique sound; and each were essential strands in the fabric of our lives.
I agree with that. Alycee.
Alycee, this brings back so many memories! I am so happy that we are remembering all these incredibly talented musicians/artists. Way back in the 1920’s, W.E.B.
Huffington Post has invited NJ Gov Christie as their guest at the WH Correspondent’s Dinner held on April 27th.
Pretty telling…
POTUS will be releasing his budget tomorrow, then he will have dinner with those Republicans tomorrow night. And FLOTUS will give her speech in Chicago. Anyone have any information about what time and were we can see her please let me know. Please.
Hope he serves them cold #Sequester beans, two day old bread and water 😉
He should make it a “pot luck dinner.” Bring yer own.
Let me prepare the meal for the Republicans, I scrap up some of the road kill on the highway and put it in a pot and add alittle salt, pepper, rice, and wine. It would be just for our Republicans friends. Serve with love.
You are funnier than half the political comedians on the teevee! I love your “passion” !!!!!
#ServeThemRoadkill
Anniebella, remember “The Help”. They should be served a special pie for dessert. 🍪
Great news!
could we have a new internet name for the professional left, courtesy of our friend deaniac? “Donate-button Leftists” i like it!

Video How Parents of Newtown want their kids remembered
First Lady will visit a high school hit hard by violence after her lunch mtg. with Mayor Rahm and bsns. leaders on ways to combat youth violence. 29 kids in that high school have been shot in the last year, 8 fatally. Isn’t that unbelievable? 29 teenagers from one high school have been shot this year.

So do FLOTUS suppose to give a speech?
and because POTUS mentioned it and I’m still in a party mood; a jam from my teens:
Alycee, you are killing me with all these oldies but goodies! Confession: My first girlfriend in college loved Jean Knight- and especially this song. The 60’s and 70’s were such interesting times.
Such sweet, sweet karma this would be:)
http://www.motherjones.com/mojo/2013/04/mcconnell-use-senate-employees-research-political-attacks-ashley-judd
Oh man, that would be sweet if they violated the Hatch Act!
we shall see! To Be Continued……
I can hear him now. “First, the left attacked my wife’s ethnicity, then they bugged my office, and now they’re attacking my staff.” Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!
🙂 Turtle snits …
This story had a link to the Senate’s Ethics Manual…http://www.ethics.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/files/serve?File_id=f2eb14e3-1123-48eb-9334-8c4717102a6ewww.ethics.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/files/serve?File_id=f2eb14e3-1123-48eb-9334-8c4717102a6e
I found THIS mighty interesting!
Inquiring minds ….
Bob, you are amazing! You are already on top of this breaking story. May be you can send a similar tweet to my Senator, Barbara Boxer, who I think is still chair of the Senate Ethics Committee.
News to me, but I haven’t been paying attention…
So, Karen Finney is getting a weekend show? I thought Ed was getting a weekend show also. Can someone update me? Thx.
Still no week end or week day for the smartest one out there, Joy Reid.
