I see we had a traffic jam – ut and lp both had new threads ready to go.

I bet Chipsticks is loving the fact that we have some great people ready and willing to post up new and interesting Threads – and we are the recipients! 🙂

That is so true … and I think Chips likes the fact that she can sometimes just “visit” the blog and post, like the rest of us merry Obamabots!

My children are in the demo, and they NEVER turn the TV on that early, in fact they don’t watch any news shows on TV. They get their news from the internet. They rarely watch TV at all.
We, on the other hand are in the age that supposedly watches TV all day. We don’t turn it on until the local news at 5 pm Central time. Then, during that half hour, my husband usually switches toRev. Al, and usually does not turn to network news.
We watched Chris Hayes a couple of times, and there were fairly good substantive discussions with new and interesting guests. However, Chris exhausts me! He bounces up and down, and always wants to insert himself………so, when hockey is on, that’s where my husband goes. I’m afraid that MSNBC has just about lost two once upon a time loyal viewers.

Off topic, but true. The starting pitcher today for the Chicago White Sox was D. Axelrod. He pitched 5.2 innings but did not get the decision. 58 years of age is a little old to go from politics into sport, but could it be?

    Thanks for posting, Hopefruit.

I hope that via Ebert’s generosity, a new generation of unpretentious film critics take his place.

He was so firmly rooted in the midwest, and the east coast elite no doubt dismissed his intellect.

But Ebert was, like our President, true to himself and admirably unbigoted toward everything in his life, whether human or art-related.

He was so generous and kind-hearted, as only progressives can be.

    Will miss him dearly.

I posted this last night, but thought I’d repeat myself for those who might be thinking of watching MTP (or who do watch).

One of Ezra Klein’s two preferred candidates for SecDef will be on MTP this Sunday.

    http://www.aei-ideas.org/2012/12/a-woman-of-substance/

Wolfowitz’ praise of Flournoy in the WSJ:
    http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887324669104578207782486407190.html
    Michele Flournoy’s Afghan Intervention
“Thanks in part to her hard work, Afghanistan’s security forces are better able to protect their own country.”

Ezra’s sage opinion in January, after @BuzzfeedBen sent that tweet:

And Chris Hayes tweeted this about good ol’ Ezra’s second choice for SecDef this week:

    http://nation.time.com/2013/04/03/current-top-pentagon-official-urged-bombing-north-koreawhen-he-was-on-the-sidelines/
“Ashton Carter, the current deputy secretary of defense, advocated bombing North Korea seven years ago when he was safely in his bunker at Harvard University.”

What bothers me the most about all this is that the journalistic standard on the national level is so low.

Did any national reporter mention that Ezra favored fellow Harvard alums instead of an actual Vietnam enlisted vet for SecDef?

Did any national reporter mention that today’s affluent male college students can bide their time in internships and graduate school, but honorable young men of SecDef Hagel’s era did not have that luxury?

Here is another one I found- AFL-CIO is sending a petition around right now asking supporters to sign and fight against the Presidents proposed cuts to SS.
    Unbelievable!
I am sorry, but as much as the Republucans are fucking up, I just think us Democrats should be doing a lot better.
But, as a whole, we are a flighty bunch, and always take our eye off the ball.
    😦

    • April 6, 2013 at 8:31 pm

They are only hurting themselves and the party. PBO will not be running again, and we need to stay united so that we can defeat some of these republicans in 2014, and give PBO a congress to work with, instead of causing problems.

Thanks, Jovie, for sharing this. It would be wonderful if President Obama and SoS, John Kerry, could find a way to end this long nightmare and bring peace between the Israelis and the Palestinians. This is a conflict that has gone on for more than 65 years. I think it’s way past time for the youths in Israel and Palestine to be able to enjoy normal lives without the constant threat of war and violence.

  31. April 6, 2013 at 9:34 pm

    Here’s something for fellow Californians:
” Gov. Jerry Brown, who comes off like a hypercompetent Joe Biden/The Dude hybrid.”
    LOL.

    http://www.ft.com/intl/cms/s/2/331e85b0-9cb1-11e2-9a4b-00144feabdc0.html#axzz2PbnLgwv9

Unfortunately, the Financial Times requires a login, but doesn’t charge for articles until you’ve reached a certain threshold (10 per month?).

It really bothers me that the east coast elite media freely ridicule Jerry Brown as “Gov Moonbeam,” without looking at what he’s done for Oakland (which, yes, still has its problems) and for CA.

He promoted the concept of “spaceship earth” back in the 1970s, and lived frugally during all his terms as Governor.

Other states would do well to elect a Jesuit such as Gov. Brown.

    • April 6, 2013 at 9:37 pm

I think the “hypercompetent Joe Biden” is an apt comparison! He’s doing a great job of cleaning up the Republican messes left behind and he’s got energy to spare. Remarkable, really. I wish he could be our governor for another decade.

      • April 6, 2013 at 9:51 pm

        Yay! Thank you Meta.

Joe Biden has always been a true progressive, someone who speaks and acts from the goodness of his heart. I’ve always thought of him as similar to Paul Wellstone. (Didn’t know much about Wellstone until after his tragic death, so please correct me if I’m wrong.)

I don’t trust “Slick Willy” or his wife.

I pray that Biden remains in robust health and is able to continue Barack Obama’s progressive strategy forward beyond 2016.

        April 7, 2013 at 12:26 am

I totally second that Meta! Jerry Brown cleaned up after Ronald Reagan and he is cleaning up again after Gov. terminator! By the way Meta, although right now I am 100% focused on doing everything I can to help President achieve his policy goals, come 2016 VP Joe Biden will be my #1 choice if he decides to run. On this my mind is made up! I know people will bring up his age, but Jerry Brown, who is four years older than Joe Biden, is demonstrating that age, especially when you are perfectly in good health, does not matter all that much if you are determined to do a good job on behalf of the people.

Thanks for another great post Lovely Plains! Michelle Obama has been an incredible First Lady who is going to leave a solid legacy of being a transformational FLOTUS.! I don’t care if I piss off the “holier than thou feminists” by saying that, besides her smarts, her accomplishments and her dedication to the country, she is also an incredibly gorgeous lady!

    • April 6, 2013 at 10:03 pm

Much obliged nathkatun, I believe the C-Span finally is Feb.18 ’14 w/ FLOTUS….so you are going to have to wait a bit on that one! I watched the one’s on Martha Washington and Abigal Adams..looking forward to Lady Bird Johnson’s down the line as well.

      • 128 nathkatun7
        April 7, 2013 at 12:52 am

LovelyPlains, Abigail Adams and Eleanor Roosevelt are two of my favorite FLOTUS! Both were incredibly smart and deeply committed to human rights. Abigail Adams was anti-slavery and she actively championed the abolition of slavery in the North. Eleanor Roosevelt was a champion of Civil Rights and the establishment of the United Nations. I have, in my conscious lifetime, known all the First Ladies, from the glamorous Jacqueline Kennedy to the equally glamorous Michelle Obama. But I know of no other First Lady, during my lifetime, who has had as much impact on the country as Michelle Obama has with her campaign to support military families as well as her passion for health and physical fitness. Of course, First Lady Hillary Clinton has gone on to make a name for herself as a Senator, presidential candidate, and Secretary of State. But I just can’t pinpoint what she exactly accomplished while she was first lady to change the country.

Not at all JO! That’s a great tweet! I heard a rumor that the defeated MA senator, Scott Brown, is thinking about challenging Sen. Shaheen in NH. Is there any truth to that? I am sure he doesn’t stand a chance if he does.
