Hello
Another day, another first for the Blues š
I can’t believe I posted that.
Demba Ba? No! Demba BAM!
No, no, no – what you were meant to say was: “Chips, thank you for your extraordinary graciousness in posting that photo, it must surely have hurt. In return, out of deep gratitude, I will desist from gloating.”
Huh.
Yes, of course. The goal’s stunning nature blinded me to my duties.
That is surely what I would have said, Chipsticks, once I had ascertained you hadn’t gone off your crumpet!! {{{{Chipsticks}}}}
DEMBA BA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The goal that CRUSHED Man United. Gooooooooooooooooooooooo C-H-E-L-S-E-A!!!
Go UT!
Congrats, UT! You so deserve a first. I asked my husband to guess Mrs. Robinson’s age without telling him who it was, and he said 65. Looks about right to me. She’s a stunner at any age.
Chills all down my body. Powerful picture. Without one paving the way, the other would not be where he is today.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!
In metaphysical terms, UTAL, that ‘chills’ running throughout any part of the body is considered to be an “Affirmation of Truth”. When we stand witness to something that cannot be denied to have shaped the course of human destiny, we are rewarded with a full connection to that awareness. Most of us only get it in glimpses, but I imagine there are people who live in a near-constant state of affirmation, like our PBO!
Poetic, as usual, MightyPamela!
TY, JO’B…
” And here’s to you Mrs. Robinson!”
What a cool response from you Carla!
Here’s that wonderful Song š
Wow. Top 5 today! Hi UT.
Woohoo!
Bringing this from the previous thread, because I’m shameless that way.
**********************************
Ok, Iāve been mulling this over, and I think Iām going to ask some of you fine folks for a great favor.
As you may or may not know, Iām working on a couple of novels. Oneās finished, the other is in its gestation.
I havenāt been working too diligently on them; however, the example of the missusā fortitude with taking control of he health has spurred me to re-start revisions on the completed work.
What I need are: READERS. I have a blog where Iāve been posting pieces from both novels, but havenāt gotten much back in the way of critique.
So, if any brave souls want to volunteer to read āThe Genealogiesā as I finish revising chapters, I would be forever indebted.
Like the DC meet-up, we could organize emails via Chips, if sheās not opposed. Iāll be creating a special email for this endeavor.
I responded there, but to make sure you see it, I will give it a try. Not sure my advice will be helpful. But, I guarantee you an honest critique.
That’s all I ask.
I’d love to read your work. Blog address?
You know, I wasn’t going to post it on my blog, just because that hasn’t been working out. But now I think I might create a new blog that’s a bit less haphazard than the one I have now. I’ll have to think about that. Otherwise, I was thinking of just emailing interested parties my chapters, and you could respond back at your leisure.
LL, count me in.
LL, I will give this some thought, depending on what kind of feedback you are seeking. Might be just what I am in need of, to feel more ‘useful’! And it may be of help to you…..
I’m looking for honest critique, a sort of workshopping for the novel.
Count me in. With email, I can download and read offline, saving precious data..
LL. I love to read. Include me in your group. Can’t wait to read your books.
I’d enjoy reading for you, LL, as long as it’s not Sci-Fi. Totally out of my league in that quarter.
No, this is very autobiographical.
Okay. Would really love to participate!
I would love to read your work, if you would like that.
I love to read. Let me know what I can do.
If you have 2.5 minutes, watch this amazing video of how a Church pastor helped Jackie Robinson get into the MLB….That not even Jackie Robison or his widow Rachel Robinson new until last year.
The pastor didn’t specifically help Robinson, did he? The impression I got was that the other party (Hicky?) was conflicted and sought to clarify his thoughts by using the church as a place for reflection. Yes he spent a while there trying to determine if he was making the right decision but for the church to say they helped Mr. Robinson himself seems to me to be stretching things a bit. I’m somewhat of a cynic, I guess, but I am often skeptical of people most when they step forward themselves to claim credit/attention.
I think the entire line of connections is important in that story. What the pastor provided was a space for Rickey to fight out internally what he knew he should do. And, he obviously knew the pastor would believe his decision was right. Sometimes what we need is quiet and quiet affirmation. I think that is what Rickey sought.
Also, this church has quite a history. The first pastor, Henry Ward Beecher was an ardent abolitionist and active in the underground railroad, so this was a church with pastors very sympathetic to Rickey’s decision. Perhaps he believed that in that space he would clearly make the right decision, without any outer interference. So…..the church that had been a liberal progressive light for over 100 years, shone its light again.
Carolyn, I totally get the first part of your response, as I get the fact that at crucial moments we often need a breathing ‘space’. That such a place might often be a church for some I can also accept. The church history you have shared is indeed commendable, but what I don’t get is the church claiming they helped ‘sign’ Jackie Robinson. In this case, if they did anything they helped Rickey clarify his thoughts and reinforced his spiritual strength to do what was right. I can’t see that as them helping to sign Mr. Robinson. That’s a bit of a reach, I MO
The pastor helped him by just being there, I think. It’s like when someone dies, they ask you what can I do to help? I couldn’t ever think of anything, I always said it’s just you’re Being here….and I think that’s the help. Rickey could have gone any place for help, but that’s where he went. Remember, the pastor himself never said anything about it…..this came out years later. Not arguing, but I think it’s significant To WHOM Rickey went for the emotional and, yes, spiritual support he needed at that time. I probably relate to this more strongly because I am the daughter of a pastor, and have seen and experienced this kind of thing.
Also, as a professor, students have come into my office with horrible situations facing them, and have just sat, or spilled their guts, and I have said very little or nothing, but my being there and listening and giving them the space was what they needed. Afterwards, they would thank me for helping them…..that’s what they felt.
It may not seem so but I agree with you 100%, Carolyn! I do not for a moment question that the pastor of that church helped Mr. Rickey, emotionally, spiritually, physically, in all/every way with the momentous decision he had/was about to make. Kudos to him, though I do see shepherding of this nature as part of a pastor’s role. On the other hand, I don’t think I can be convinced that the pastor helped *Mr. Robinson* get into the MLB. I may be splitting hairs because he helped Rickey who in turn helped Robinson, but I don’t feel inclined to give this unknown pastor credit for helping to get Robinson in when he didn’t actually do anything other than listen or provide a venue conducive to soul searching, and he didn’t even provide it to Mr. Robinson.
Bringing this over from the last thread (I posted just before LibLib asked his favorite.
But I’m doing this for those old enough to remember #42 and his peers, including #32 (Sandy Koufax):
Jackie Robinson had unmatched courage and dignity, just heartbreaking that he died before witnessing Hank Aaron surpassing Babe Ruthās home run record.
My childhood HERO was Sandy Koufax, and his bio introduced me to the Negro leagues and the immortal Satchel Paige. I couldnāt believe what I read about that horrid discrimination. And Satchel Paige was the Oscar Wilde (wit) of baseball.
You donāt have to be a Dodger fan to appreciate what they did on opening day yesterday (check out todayās LA Times front page), which featured Vin Scully announcing Sandy Koufax to the mound, and celebrated the 1963 World Champion Dodgers (the first season I paid attention to baseball):
http://adage.com/article/media/check-mlb-s-opening-day-marketing-stunt/240656/
My oldest brother was a real sports fanatic. He collected baseball cards like most baby boomers. Sandy Koulfax was also one of his favorite players. I would have loved to have taken him to see the opening game. One day…..
Can’t tell you what it was like in a San Diego suburb listening to Vin Scully announce Koufax’s no-hitter-a-year. (This was before the Padres, so LA was my team.) The perfect game was almost more than I could bear.
Unlike Nolan Ryan (Houston Astros) who pitched more no hitters, Koufax had a short career. He was vilified by the press for joining with Don Drysdale in “holding out” for $100,000 a year (I think it was his last season pitching).
I know $100K went further in the mid-60s than it does today, but it’s not even CLOSE to the millions A-ROD is being paid.
We attended almost all the Dodger games 64-68. My college years. I love all of them.

I know Mrs. Jackie Robinson had some wise words of wisdom and encouragement for Mrs. Obama. How nice to have two Mrs. Robinson’s at the WH….
I was thinking the same thoughts, jojo. What a great time the two of them must have had. What a lot of great history being made again today in that beautiful space between our First Lady and the wonderful Mrs.Jackie Robinson.
We are so blessed to see all of the lovely things being done by our president and our First Lady. I pray that we all will have the opportunity to read their books when they leave the WhiteHouse in 2017. That is one prayer that I ask for each day as I meditate in my quiet times.HZ
Cyndi Lauper and Charlie Musselwhite ~ Down Don’t Bother Me
Good Evening Chips and my TOD Family. I hope that everyone in our wonderful family is doing great. We travel this beautiful but tough journey with love, joyfulness, peaceful thoughts, hopefulness to get us to the end with our wonderful POTUS.
I hope all who have the physical pains are being good to your bodies, kind with your patience, and allowing good and sweetness to enter your healing spaces.
I have been moving with much gratefulness, loving each TOD Family member here, and praying much for success for our beautiful president. I was getting a hair cut this morning, and I had the great opportunity to speak with the stylist about immigration. She had her facts all mixed up about what the president wants in the Immigration Bill, yet we had a very informative conversation. I tried to plant a seed of hope for her to read for herself on WhiteHouse.gov., about the issues and really what the president does daily. She was not aware of this tool.
Our conversations with others are still so important as we travel along daily doing our chores, etc. I came away feeling better knowing that it was not just a hair cut for me, but an informative beautiful sharing of knowledge that hopefully will help her to better share and explain with her family and young friends.
She shared with me that a group at her church were talking with the pastor about how our three brancjes of government works and how her friends at her church really did not realize how the power is spread around and how much the POTUS powers are limited. Most of her friends thought that the president could just say it and it would be done. So sharing the many great tools that has been put in place by our wonderful president and this administration really can help to lead others to a place to find out what he is doing.
One little seed planted wherever we may go, in my opinion can and will produce much good fruit for future generations. So thanks to my special and beautiful angel, Chips and all of our family here who share so much wonderful information and work so hard to help do what Chips always has stated from the beginning, Supporting our president on this site with love, respect, and with a very beautiful Positive Attitude.
Thanks so much Chips for all that you do to make this such a beautiful, loving, and brilliant space for all of us. I love you dearly, no matter how difficult my pain moves across this older body. I am doing better thanks to my new method of preparing my food with the Food Extractor. Great progess.
(((((((((( Lots of hugs to Pamela and others who are healing)))))))))))). LL, please give Mrs. LL a hug for me. I pray that she is healing beautifully. ((((( Loving thoughts to her))))))HZ
{{{{{{{{HZ}}}}}}}} Love and Light and Blessing of Angels all Around You dearest HZ, my temporary situation is a small thing beside your ongoing efforts… thank you.
MightyPamela, I left a little love in a message a few nights ago. I missed out on what happened, but I know that you are so strong and that you will heal beautifully. Please know that ((((( I love you, my dear one.))))))) Take good care and Never give up on the precious gift of Hope in your space. (((Love you))).HZ
{{{{ I Love You Back HZ }}}} š I saw that note a day or two later ~ it meant a great deal to me, and I am grateful for your thoughts and prayers.
I will always keep you in my prayers and thoughts, my beautiful one.HZ
And I, You! Lovely, loving HZ…
Am I too late? I love you HZ and you too Mighty Pamela. You all remember Good Times when the Alderman used to say “And you to Winona.”

You’re on a roll Dudette, fab videos, thank you!!!!!
Hi my two dear angel, Chips and Dudette. Yes, Dudette keep the beautiful music rolling. You lift my spirit so much with your great selection. I loved the Vivaldi a few nights ago. Beautiful. I love Vivaldi.
Have you listened to the beautiful Diane Schuur and another wonderful musician, Chris Botti. Beautiful.
Have I told you lately how much I love your musical mind and your beautiful sharing within our TOD Family.
((((((((( Thank you, Dudette))))))))))HZ
Thank Chips and HZ! My heart soars knowing that my small contribution to life on the best blog in the whole wide world makes you smile! Love to you both! š
From the underrated “The Dana Owens Album,” 2004. š
Underrated Indeed
More from the same Album
Queen is verrrrrry talented.
I saw this on ET when FLOTUS talk about her husband.
O-ho! Who wouldn’t fall in love with PBO? FLOTUS said it was okay? Dear me, I bet that’s all some Obamabot wimmin have been waiting to hear — the ones who could wait, that is. š š
She is saying who wouldn’t fall in love with a man like that. But catch that little look at the end, which means it’s okay to look, but you better not touch.
He has a little swag, she is proud of him, he’s stylish, healthy, smart, passionate, inspiring . You don’t have to rub it in FLOTUS, we know you have a good man. š
I know that’s right! š
{{Annieb}}, I love you. You are so marvelously consistent. š
That’s our girl! š
Spent some time reading a bit today to show myself that I’m not addicted, you know. However I didn’t escape as this little passage brought you guys right back to mind with a chuckle. š
[Husband and wife were in the NICU in the middle of the night keeping their preemie daughter company, and wifey just asked hubby if he was awake.]
āI am,ā I admitted. ā⦠Nuala, do you think God loves us the way you love Socra Marie at this moment? Does he touch us the way you touch her?ā
āOch, thatās a strange question, Dremot Michael, and yourself knowing that thereās no point in being God unless you can do them kind of things and himself sending Jesus to tell us that, poor dear man.ā
Lofty praise for Jesus. Rarely was I referred to as a āpoor dear man,ā the highest praise an Irishwoman can bestow on a member of the inferior gender.
Author ā Andrew M. Greeley
As I chuckled I wondered if the author āAndrewā was male or female. š š I also felt pleased to find a high compliment I can use in TOD village. š š
Is your author Father Andrew M. Greeley, an Irish-American Catholic priest? I read some of his novels decades ago.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Greeley
Apparently. Imagine that! I haven’t read anything ‘religious’ in a while and never suspected this was. ( I looked front and back just now and this was published in 2002.) I like it so far as the preemie angle got me (found it on the bookshelf that I’m trying to weed out) and though I’d read it before, must have been years ago, I had no idea I was reading work by a priest.
This is one main reason I can never de-clutter effectively when it comes to books! I have to read them over, then of course by the time I get involved I no longer want to throw them out BUT I AM RUNNING OUT OF SPACE!
Sounds like we both know that books are technically never “clutter”!
And then we have the latest batshitiest craziest proposal from nra.
Some former GOP Congressman is on O’Donnell Show right now talking about the NRA latest idea about arming teachers and putting arm guards in schools.
Asa Hutchinson. A former House of Rep. His brother was a senator once. Both from AR. One had an affair. I think the senator and lost to Pryor. I could be wrong there. My memory these days are suspect. I used to have a vivid memory.
Both brother had affairs.
Yes indeed, his trip down to the Appalachian hills……oops, Argentina, yes that kind of experience.
57% Sanford won by. The puritans voted for this man with all his spending corruptions…….. yes, SC you elected him.
The hypocrisy on the right is rampant. They’re the same people who voted for Romney – when they believed he was a cult member.
Forget that she’s using him as an ottoman. Why aren’t they getting hit by cars?!
It was such a joy to see Rachel Robinson at the White House meeting the First Lady and President. The black President and First Lady. I can imagine Rachel Robinson talking to her husband about meeting them. I can imagine also the talk POTUS and FLOTUS had after watching that movie.
Off to the doctor early tomorrow, so I shall bid you all a goodnight, sweet dreams. Dream of a World filled with peace and love.. May we wake to such a reality one day ~ soon.
Good Luck. Be well. See you tomorrow. I will follow you and call it a night too.
Sweet dreams TODers.
God willing, see all tomorrow š
I’m trying to compose tweets to remind folks to cast an eye on the Repubs who are in Blue states YET are not supporting gun reform. Wouldn’t it be somewhat effective if we could at least draw some attention to them, resulting in them losing a few (more) votes come 2014? We won’t if we don’t try.
Excellent idea! Retweeted them all!
I love the accountability that these tweets represent – lets continue applying the pressure. I will join you in this
Thank you GCL & Dudteer, Here are a few more…
Right ON!
Great news, Pf.
Welp, I guess my question has been answered. Mark Sanford and his jump-off…coughs “Fiance” Marie at his campaign headquarters.

Nite everyone
whoa. just re-watching a clip from a while ago, and it’s just mind-blowing to see how different “the news” treats president obama compared to the previous president (who lost the popular vote). unbelievable watching the press conference w.bush had to sell the iraq invasion, and see how so many of the same faces today (including mark knoller) guffawed along with w.bush as he told his childish jokes with his nervous laughs, even though they were talking about such deadly decisions.
these “press” people are as vile as the republicans who bullied their way into the middle east messes to profit. compare how these exact same tools treat one of the most competent presidents of all time who significantly helped stave off another great depression, and these “news” people are criminal in my mind. incredible.
I agree 1000%.
4morefor44, I agree with everything you said about the so called mainstream media!
I can’t even watch it.
photo of PBO with Mrs. Robinson is stunning and historical.
It reminded me of the day PBO gave Mr. Willie Mays a ride on Air Force One.
If I remember correctly, that video of Mr Mays & POTUS includes an PBO’s clear acknowledgement of the role Mr Jackie Robinson played in the fact that he is President and that him & Mr Mays could ride in AF1.
anyone else remember that video?
i do. thanks for the reminder. president obama does so many historical things so fast that it’s hard to keep track of them all!
I remember that video, globalcitizenlinda. President Obama always remembers people who paved the way for him to be where he is; unlike Black right wingers, like Ben Carson, Justice Clarence Thomas and Herman Cain, who think they got where there are purely on their own individual merit.
Last group of GOPs in BLUE states.. Please use and reuse when people start to point fingers at the conservadems.
Thank you all so much for you who are willing to help this lowly scribe with his novel.
My email for this project is lib_librarian@outlook.com. Drop me an email and I’ll create a contact list. I should have the first three chapters ready for reading by Friday.
Well, LL, I couldn’t get through at above address and couldn’t DM you, Mr. LibrarianSir, because you do not follow me (I is crushed! Crushed I tell you.)
Ok, that is totally weird. I just tested and sent myself an email and got through.
And I could’ve sworn I followed you! Hold on, I will correct that oversight.
today’s White House events about 42 made me look up and listen to Ms. Yolanda Adams’ White House Performance of “Change is gonna Come” in 2010
notice the moment PBO reaches out for FLOTUS & the subject matter of the song at that point.
there is a much more clear video of this exchange that I watched and it also recorded Amb Susan Rice noting PBO’s reaching out to FLOTUS
Oh wow! God bless you, Mr. Holder sir!
Okay that went to the wrong spot! What I meant to say HERE was that I was moved to tears by that performance and by the gesture you called attention to. I love Yolanda Adams and listen to her morning show when I call. Beautiful voice, beautiful woman of God.
Yessss!
Since it IS way past midnight – my new guide – I’m off to court sleep. Sweet Dreams!
Ok, for anyone who is trying to reach me at the outlook.com email and can’t, if you type it out in your email “to” box, it’ll get to me. For some reason if you click on the link it won’t. Not sure why. What a bother.
And with that, again, thank you, and goodnight.
Dr. King’s Final Speech before he was taken from us “I’ve Been To the Mountaintop”
From Wikipedia: “King spoke on April 3, 1968, at the Mason Temple (Church of God in Christ Headquarters) in Memphis, Tennessee. On the next day, King was assassinated. The speech primarily concerns the Memphis Sanitation Strike. King calls for unity, economic actions, boycotts, and nonviolent protest, while challenging the United States to live up to its ideals. At the end of the speech, he discusses the possibility of an untimely death.”
Common ~ “A Dream”
Thank you for reminding us, Dudette.
People in the UK now fit into seven social classes, a major survey conducted by the BBC suggests.
It says the traditional categories of working, middle and upper class are outdated, fitting 39% of people.
It found a new model of seven social classes ranging from the elite at the top to a “precariat” – the poor, precarious proletariat – at the bottom.
…
Elite – the most privileged group in the UK, distinct from the other six classes through its wealth. This group has the highest levels of all three capitals
Established middle class – the second wealthiest, scoring highly on all three capitals. The largest and most gregarious group, scoring second highest for cultural capital
Technical middle class – a small, distinctive new class group which is prosperous but scores low for social and cultural capital. Distinguished by its social isolation and cultural apathy
New affluent workers – a young class group which is socially and culturally active, with middling levels of economic capital
Traditional working class – scores low on all forms of capital, but is not completely deprived. Its members have reasonably high house values, explained by this group having the oldest average age at 66
Emergent service workers – a new, young, urban group which is relatively poor but has high social and cultural capital
Precariat, or precarious proletariat – the poorest, most deprived class, scoring low for social and cultural capital

Always trust the limeys to divide and rule.
Good Morning TOD!
Good morning Ms. Chips and TODville,
God, I love you guys here, every single one of you. The knowledge, compassion, love, humor, integrity, facts, agree to disagree.
I have been in “lurke mode” for a couple of days and you just cannot stay away from here too long. Mrs. Robinson’s visit to the WH at such a time as this, makes all the prejudice, hate and bigotry I experienced as a child and probably will still continue in my adult life…..helps soften my heart even more. It makes me appreciate the Obama Family ( and the other Mrs. Robinson) more than words can express.
This is so difficult for me right now because when you have love in your heart, there is no room for hate. It cannot remain. I cannot wait to go and see the movie.
Have a great day!
