“threatened”?!? way to miss the point, coppins. the problem is that they never, ever cover when he does well or has successes, and in the rare times when they do, it is always, always dulled by some sort of negative spin added to it, and the few times he doesn’t immediately kick butt, “the news” makes a huge deal out of it no matter how trivial it is (jedi mind meld?!?!? are you freaking kidding me the “the news” would make something out of that?!?!).

meanwhile, we were subjected to constant fawning over the previous president, who literally could do nothing wrong in their eyes, even when he was almost killed by a pretzel (allegedly), and to this day are still propping up the legacy of easily the worst president ever by almost any measure. a president who lost the popular vote, mind you.

our problem is the double-standard, mckay.

Thank you John Miller. These darn idiots act as if it was Michael Jordon, or Lebron James , or Kobe Bryant in the seventh game of the NBA Championship, and they went 2 for 22. For pete’s sake it was President Obama. If the President had hit 22 and missed 2 they never would had mention it. Such silliness from these haters. And then try to act like we have the problem.

Isn’t is funny how President Obama did not have to say a single word in this entire Dr. Ben Carson fiasco all the way from the Prayer Breakfast to Dr. Carson’s outrageous comments about same sex marriage.

Do the google and you’ll find enough stuff to fill your library. Anything from his inappropriate political remarks at a prayer breakfast, which catapulted him to RWNJ stardom, to his crazy LGBT talk on Hannity, to his non-apology apology that followed, to the medical students campaigning to have him removed as speaker at their commencement. The good news? He will make $$$$$ from the RWNJs as he peddles his new book and TV appearances. The Dems will hold him up as the face of BobbyJindal’s stoopid party.

Marco Rubio joins the “slow down” caucus

Indeed, one group opposed to reform has explicitly called on Senators to slow the process down, apparently for the purposes of derailing it. And we’ve seen this before: back in 2007, opponents of reform similarly tried to slow the process, with Senator John Cornyn urging colleagues to “slow down and read this bill” because Americans had not yet digested the plan. Now, six years later, we’re again hearing the calls to “slow down.” But the American people have made their verdict clear: They want a path to citizenship.

No doubt Rubio has a very tough balancing act to strike. He needs to reassure conservatives that he’s prepared to walk away from any deal, and that he’s getting them everything he can in the process. If he does this successfully, it could potentially bring some of them along. But as Benjy Sarlin points out, Senate Democrats have already vowed not to procedurally rush the process and have promised to run things through the typical committee and amendment process. Lending aid and comfort to the “slow down” caucus could make things worse, given that their apparent aim is to allow opponents more time to kill reform.

Pennsylvania’s Casey joins the marriage bandwagon

    By Steve Benen

There are 55 members of the Senate Democratic caucus, and of this morning, 47 of them have now publicly declared their support for marriage equality. The latest is Pennsylvania’s Bob Casey.
As we talked about last week, with each similar announcement, the pressure rises on the remaining eight Senate Democrats who have not yet endorsed marriage equality: Mark Pryor of Arkansas, Bill Nelson of Florida, Tom Carper of Delaware, Tim Johnson of South Dakota, Joe Manchin of West Virginia, Mary Landrieu of Louisiana, Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota, and Joe Donnelly of Indiana.

    • 83 jackiegrumbacher
      April 1, 2013 at 4:20 pm

This is a very big deal, LH, as Casey was getting all kinds of grief from people over over his hold out on marriage equality. I think it was partly political pressure that did it for Casey, but also the fact that he’s a fundamentally decent man and he finally saw it as a fairness issue. So good for Casey, good for PA and good for all of us.

There are several other very good candidates for the Dems…..nothing counts or makes any difference until 2015, after the midterm elections. People like Rubio peak right now, and they’re done by the time it counts.
Also, do these Republicans realize they are not going to run against President Obama? They have no idea who their opponent will be, and all this posturing and bloviating now is wasted breath.

Apparently, now President Obama is also responsible for (and has to answer to) the tone of Dr. Luis Leon’s sermons.

Press Briefing by Press Secretary Jay Carney, 4/1/2013

    Ed, sorry.

Q I want to ask about yesterday’s Easter Mass. The President brought his family over to St. John’s, as a lot of Republican and Democratic Presidents have. But was he surprised, were you surprised that the Reverend León decided to get so political and attack leaders of the religious right, at one point saying that they want, quote, “blacks to be back in the back of the bus.” It seemed sort of odd for Easter. Were you surprised by that?

MR. CARNEY: Well, I wasn’t there and I have not spoken with the President. I know that he enjoys going to Easter services with his family. And in keeping with a tradition that dates back many presidencies, he went right across the park here to St. John’s and attended those services.

I think it’s been noted that Reverend León has been there for quite some time. He has — I think he gave the invocation at President George W. Bush’s second inaugural. So, again, I wasn’t there. I don’t have a characterization to make of his comments. The President was just attending Easter services with his family.

Q He did speak at President Bush’s inaugural, and also did the benediction at President Obama’s most recent inaugural and said something about loving thy neighbor, et cetera. Do you think this kind of language, though, changes the tone in a positive way?

MR. CARNEY: Well, again, this is — he is not a politician. This is not a senator or a member of Congress or the President. This was a sermon that the — at a church here that’s been visited by Presidents of both parties for many, many years. And I think — I just don’t have anything more on it for you. I haven’t talked to the President about it.

Enjoyed watching the cute Kid President (9-yr Robby Novak) video in the briefing room from the previous thread. He’s adorable.

CBS has more info about him in a photo gallery accompanying this article about his “press briefing” today:

He’s quite the inspiring young lad. He suffers from osteogenesis imperfecta, a rare disease in which bones break easily.
[Sci-fi fans out there will remember that’s the diisease the Samuel Jackson’s character Elijah Price/Mr. Glass had in the movie “Unbreakable”]

“Robby Novak suffers from osteogenesis imperfecta, a disease that makes his bones brittle. But the nine-year-old doesn’t let his frequent injuries slow him down.

His “Kid President” video has been viewed 12 million times online. In it, Robby gives the world a pep talk, but it’s his life off camera that’s the real inspiration.”

“Little Robby has had more than 70 broken bones and 13 surgeries. He has steel rods in both legs.”

“Robby and his sister Lexi, who also has brittle bone disease, were adopted by Lori and David Novak nine years ago. Even when his bones were broken, Robby’s positive attitude and energy were so infectious, his brother-in-law decided to put him on video.”

“Robby says he doesn’t worry about breaking bones. “I’m trying not to worry about it,” he says. “Like, I want everybody to know … I’m not that kid who breaks a lot. Like, I’m just — I’m just a kid who wants to have fun.”

“He wakes up, and you will ask him, ‘How was your day today?’ and he’ll go, ‘Awesome!'” says brother-in-law Brad Montague.”

“Robby recently broke his finger. He says he usually injures “mostly arms and legs, but not a finger. This is my first finger break.”

“At first, the “Kid President” videos were just for the family, but once Montague posted them online, Robby’s motivational monologue became an internet sensation — and even caught the attention of the real president.”

I’m sorry, but what in the heck are you talking about. The movie is a biopic of Jackie Robinson based in the era where the N-word was repeatedly thrown at him LIBERALLY as you say. What the words African American, and Black American, was not widely used then. I bet if Jackie Robinson had a nickel for everytime some white person called him the N-word he’d be as rich as Bill Gates.

It doesn’t serve anyone anything to try to white wash the language of the era which was NOT PC into the PC language of today.

I’m sorry, but I just don’t understand what your objection has to do with this particular movie.

i will not support a move that uses the N word….period……..everytime i hear the N word i am reminded of my grandmother who told me stoires of being called the n word while working as a domestic….i’m sure that was authentic as well…

.i do not object to the telling of the Jackie Robinson story…it is indeed powerful….but i will not honor this notion that using the n word is necessary to tell the story….hell…i’m sure that we can find some white folks today who are more than willing to use the N word…nothing nostalgic about it at all..

In addition…stand on a street corner and on any given day…some young black person is blasting a song that uses the n word,,,

so this is not about being authentic…

i object to the word ….period…….and so did my grandparents….

      • April 1, 2013 at 9:22 pm

it’s a historical depiction. it was 1945. Black people were Negroes. We were officially second class citizens in the laws of the land.

Yes, Nigger will be used….because that is what the culture was.

Have you read any books about what Jackie Robinson went through?

HE went through it, so you could have the luxury of ‘deciding’ whether you could deal with a movie about his life.

    • April 1, 2013 at 6:52 pm

I think it’s easy to forget just how important Jackie Robinson playing on The Bums was to the civil rights movement. Baseball was the country’s common language, but spoken in two distinctly different dialects, one for whites and one for blacks. Jackie should be included when discussing Rosa Parks, MLK, and PBO.

So seriously CBS.com ( probably a Mark K’s doing) now has the video of pres Obama shooting and getting 2 of 22 shots on a running Loop? HP has it on their front page running in a loop…. courtesy of CBS.com. I left my displeasure on their site too.

How bad do these people have it that they must find a manufactured wrong to make them feel better and try in their minds to soil pres Obama? These people are just wickedly pathetic.

Nena I think I will skip Huff Puff and CBS,com this time. I rather watch the video of the Easter Egg Roll today. I just finish watching FLOTUS, Malia, and Sasha read their books. I have to see POTUS read his book, then I want to see FLOTUS at the Kid’s Kitchen.

I don’t blame you. It was my way of letting TODers know. I was shocked that they had the actual video running in a loop. In all my years visiting HP, I have never seen such thing on their front page.

Wow, I am laughing out loud. I find this comical that the media is trying to manufacture something out of nothing. There must be something more serious happening in the world. Don’t they know by now, that PBO is like Teflon. He just let this crap bounce off. 🙂 I was reading on the thread about a reporter asking Jay about the statement made by the pastor of the church where PBO and all other presidents have attended. Ridiculous!!!

Rev Al had Rush having a heartache about it. Rush went as far as saying that pres Obama inspired it and encouraged racism for the rev Leon was told that pres Obama was coming and the sermon was tailored to accommodate pres Obama’s desired point of views.

It is so funny how these people react to this president.

Rev Leon is Not pres Obama’s pastor. He has been there for years. It matters not to these haters. Now they are flipping for the good rev Leon called out the righties. He doubled down when contacted and said that he stands by his Easter Sermons.

    • April 1, 2013 at 8:06 pm

It doesn’t bother me. PBO couldn’t draw iron today and the media is having fun with it. Tomorrow nobody will even remember.

As far as I am concerned, the U.S. media are useless. The majority of the so called MSM are no better than Tabloids. All they are interested in sensationalism. I am glad that more and more people no longer rely on the MSM pundits for serious analyses of important issues facing the country. The way I see it, MSM pundits are mainly impressing their fellow colleagues. But they are Increasingly irrelevant to most of us.

Thanks Nena! The poor media don’t know that the game has changed. They no longer have a total monopoly on informing and shaping public opinion. I read posts on TOD and other blogs by people who are more politically astute and well informed than the pundits in the MSM.

    For AMK and Yardham:
An attorney arrived home late, after a very tough day trying to get a stay of execution. His last minute plea for clemency to the governor had failed and he was feeling worn out and depressed.

As soon as he walked through the door at home, his wife started on him about, ‘What time of night to be getting home is this? Where have you been? Dinner is cold and I’m not reheating it’. And on and on and on.

Too shattered to play his usual role in this familiar ritual, he poured himself a shot of whiskey and headed off for a long hot soak in the bathtub, pursued by the predictable sarcastic remarks as he dragged himself up the stairs.

While he was in the bath, the phone rang. The wife answered and was told that her husband’s client, James Wright, had been granted a stay of execution after all. Wright would not be hanged tonight.

Finally realizing what a terrible day he must have had, she decided to go up stairs and give him the good news.

As she opened the bathroom door, she was greeted by the sight of her husband, bent over naked, drying his legs and feet.

‘They’re not hanging Wright tonight,’ she said.

He whirled around and screamed, ‘FOR THE LOVE OF GOD WOMAN, DON’T YOU EVER STOP?!’

Get ready folks. The drums of war are starting to beat. There are some willing to engage N. Korea right now.

    • April 1, 2013 at 8:18 pm

As you know Sailor, certain ‘triggers’ bring a scale of death and destruction humanity has never seen. NK is in the top 3. There would be no ‘conventional’ warfare and the scale would be determined by what China did in response to annihilation of the NK regime and it’s infrastructure.

China ain’t gonna do squat if N. Korea jumps off first. I think. Man o man, Iraq would be a walk in the park if the Pacific jumped off. And Taiwan would love to see China fall.

Let me just say that if the worst thing we could say about President Bush was that he missed 20 out of 22 basketball shots at an Easter Egg Roll, he would have been on Mt. Rushmore by now.

So for the MSM to be going on about PBO’s missed BB shots at an Easter Egg roll simply tells the country and the world that this President is doing a damn good job of governing the country – so much so that the media has to anxiously hope he misses a BB shot or else there’s no news for them to report….

Well said, Hopefruit! Personally, I think the U.S. mainstream media are becoming more and more irrelevant each and every day. Do the MS media really think that sane people are going to think less of their 51-year-old President because he missed basketball shots? It’s nice that President Obama is an avid athlete who loves sports. But I certainly did not vote for him because I expected him to be as good as Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant in shooting hoops. To be even more honest, I did not vote for him because he was a better basketball player than I am. And I did play basketball in High School 50 years ago. Just to think that these media people are paid incomes of 6-7 figures just to insult the intelligence of the American people by reporting these bs as if they were really important news that affected people’s lives!

I’m late to the Easter Egg Roll comments, but I LOVE THESE PICTURES AND OUR FIRST FAMILY!!! Thanks so much. Each one of the pictures is so full of warmth and caring and humanity, even before you know the back stories (Easter egg gone astray, Kid President and his brittle bone disease, the Newtown father, etc.) that make them even more meaningful and moving. Did I say I love this family?!
