Mr. Hounshell won’t have any problem to raise money and get volonteers. This race will be nationalized I think !!

Read about his gripes with Patrick Murphy. I need some help here. I live in Progressive Ted Deutch’s district. I was Gerrymandered and my new district was suppose to be R but Lois Frankel won. I WORK in Allen Wests district now represented by Patrick Murphy. I registered about 100 new voters and updated many that moved since the 2010 elections. I carried people to get voter ID. I drove them to the polls and evidently Patrick Murphy is siding with the GOP on many votes?

From his bio….I made a mistake?!?

Herculean effort here, LP. I think you win the Longest Post in the History of the World contest. Took me about 2 1/2 hours to scroll through. Beautiful, meaningful photos tho. Too bad the public was kept mostly in the dark with reporters in a Bad Bad Leroy Brown contest, the Baddest Man in the Whole Damn Town—-who can be the snarkiest, most cynical, most critical of the U.S. president on foreign soil.
When did our news media evolve into this jr. high style behavior—–winking at and high five-ing each other on which one can ask and state the most outrageous things, can attempt to put President Obama in the worst light? Chuck Todd looked so smug there for a while—-so pleased with himself. Not sure if he’s still smiling after the response he deservedly got. But what a worthless bunch. They serve no purpose any more.

I liked it when JCP backed Ellen as their spokesperson when a Conservative group threatened a boycott unless they fired Ellen. There was another issue they stood up for that I appreciated then. I put them on my buy list. I do not buy at Walmart and do buy from Costco and Penneys. My first place I check is BiMart which is locally regional and owned by the employees. Between these places I can pretty well supply my needs. I buy JCP gift cards for those I gift.

My final post before I get out to start a busy day for me——TOD, Be careful who we applaud.
Mike Bloomberg is on our side in the gun legislation effort and we can thank him for that.
But maybe you should ask yourself where his money and influence is focused on in things that Don’t get publicity.

I can tell you that in the 12 years of his NYC reign he has left a smoldering trail of broken lives, lost jobs and homelessness. Longtime low-paid City workers were ousted from their jobs—losing not only the jobs but the modest $20,000 or less per year pensions. The jobs were then done by minimum wages no benefits workers.

The mayor talks about “affordable housing” but has actually approved poliicies that will continue to shrink housing opportunities for all but the 1%.

City shelters are bursting at the seams and new policies, cruel beyond description, are baring entry without extensive paperwork.

Mr. Bloomberg’s first attempt at National Status was as an Education expert. How did that work out for him? 80% of high school students can barely read and even with “juking the stats” Bloomberg can’t make this effort smell like anything but the pile of wasted effort that it is. Hasn’t mentioned education much since the cameras caught him saying “Children learn as well with 50 in a classroom.” I wonder if he’d send his kids ro a school with 50 per classroom.

So he wants to curb gun violence in the USA. So do we. Just be very careful about El Bloombito.

In re-inventing themselves, the GOP see a need for minority outreach. But their outreach does not focus on the needs of minorities; rather on how minorities can be used to “improve” their image.

Amazing how people listen to a speech and interpret words said with a totally opposite interpretation.

For instance, I still hear a number of people who are claiming that while in Israel, PBO did not say anything about the conditions in which the people of Palestine live – an assertion that is totally false. Did these people really listen to the same speech that was delivered?

I don’t know if it would help but I suggest that we petition the White House and the State Department to find a way to circulate PBO’s speech to the ordinary people through out the region. Young people could lead the discussions especially the call by PBO to see the world in the other person’s shoes and demand action from their leaders

    • March 24, 2013 at 10:12 am

It’s as you say. Most ordinary people still get their news through the sources that are making these false claims. They will not make the extra effort to look for the speech or go to alternative sources for reports about the speech.

That is also the reason that so many people know so little about the benefits of the Affordable Care Act and what they need to do to take advantage of these benefits.

    • March 24, 2013 at 10:35 am

All of his transcript’s are on whitehouse.gov.

    • 82 hgerhard
      March 24, 2013 at 11:01 am

It’s a shame that people do not take more advantage of the information on http://www.whitehouse.gov. There is a very detailed report on the President’s trip to the Middle East, complete with videos. The entire speech to the people of Israel is included. Right wingers can do what they do to distort, but the actual speech does not leave much room for misunderstanding. Instead of listening to all the “experts” about what the President said, I wish people would just listen to the speech, without the commentary. Then they can make up their own minds. Our media no longer explore issues and points of view, they distort and direct all discussion to their pre-conceived talking points. We can only fight them with facts.

      • March 24, 2013 at 11:23 am

Hgerhard, that would require a little bit of effort. In our society, many of us want to get what we can with little or no effort – at least for worthwhile things.

    • 84 prettyfoot58
      March 24, 2013 at 12:35 pm

      hello global…

the definition of a deliberate falsehood is a lie.
These folks just out and out lie. It is not a case of misunderstanding…i believe that they distort and lie to mislead the Ameriocan People…who do not watch as closely as should…

we often talk about low information voters….i say that American electorate is full of low information voters…and those who want to hold back the Middle Class count on that…

    • 85 theo67
      March 24, 2013 at 1:42 pm

The people who are saying that the President didn’t say anything about the plight of the people of Palestine obviously didn’t listen to the speech.

  34. 86 jackiegrumbacher
    March 24, 2013 at 10:05 am

Global, people are deliberately obtuse when they want to be. I hear so many people say that the president has never addressed climate change, or jobs, or infrastructure, when he talks about these issues all the time in his speeches and addresses them in his actions. Some people need to bear a grudge and they close their eyes and ears.

Just to add to the chorus, this is an absolutely fabulous photo essay, LP.

Might also add that he should have sent PBO a thank you card! SImply BECAUSE PBO said we needed to look forward, not back…did this little lying POS not end up in jail!

    • March 24, 2013 at 1:31 pm

“He is like the most focused, disciplined guy. To imagine being a former president and not having an opinion on anything over the last four years, really?

One he’s too busy painting cats out of proportion. And two why should now being any different from when he was wrecking the country?

PBO has never criticized Bush personally and if Jeb had actually read his brother’s book he would know that Bush spoke glowingly of The President. He’s talking nonsense.

  40. March 24, 2013 at 10:18 am

    From David Remnick:

A couple of weeks ago, my colleague Philip Gourevitch and I interviewed Susan Rice, the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, at a New Yorker event on stage, at Joe’s Pub. We hoped for a round-the-world survey of expansive and off-the-cuff honesty, but, as it turned out, there was only so much candor that diplomatic propriety would allow. Rice, from Syria to Rwanda, strictly adhered to the made-in-Washington talking points. She even pronounced herself “happy” that she was still U.N. Ambassador, even after losing a bid to succeed Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State. (I am sure she was “happy” beyond words to have been the hate-object of a cynical gaggle of right-wing senators who exacted some post-election revenge on the President by punishing her for the disaster in Benghazi.) It was frustrating but not unexpected. You had to admire Rice’s discipline—and even how, at the end of the discussion, she robbed some French fries from a guy in the audience who was eating, flagrantly, at the lip of the stage.

I think David R. was admiring Rice’s “good soldier” stay on message political abilities. At the same time taking a swipe at lack of substance.

      • 104 Nena20409
        March 24, 2013 at 10:46 am

Yes, let me try……not really. Seriously, these people have self appointed themselves to decide when in this case Amb Dr. Susan Rice is to feel a certain way, and to, I guess school her on how to be diplomatic too? The tone and the divisiveness of Rimnick is disturbing. They are the Jury, the Prosecutor and the Judge. It was still not enough that SCOTUS is what they have assumed to be now where this administration is concerned. They will in their minds, render the FINAL decision. The saddest part of it all, they don’t see the severely wicked error in their behavior. How could they? The DC/NY 98% that cover this White House, eat, vacation, live, party, their kids attend the same schools and the appear on the same shows or symposiums…….totally drinking each others’ bodily fluid.

Remember her comments on torture ?

      May 2009

“Some things in life need to be mysterious,” Noonan said on Sunday about the release of the torture memos. “Sometimes you need to just keep walking. … It’s hard for me to look at a great nation issuing these documents and sending them out to the world and thinking, oh, much good will come of that.”

Peggy Noonan, to Noonan and her kind it’s good when it takes people a little time to become free, and get civil rights. I am sorry but I have never like that woman.

Fact: the Press is and has been pissed off that it was duped by the Bush Administration for the Iraq war.
Fast forward to today, that is a big reason why they give this President such a hard time, it’s pent up emotions, sort of a catharsis.
The thing is, they are one President to late.
    😦

That would presume that they care about being good journalists and getting the story right this time. Almost all evidence to the contrary. I don’t give them that much credit. Most of them are whiny two-bit hacks (thank you amk) who are only interested in puffery, sensationalism and ratings while collecting their ill-deserved paychecks. Truth be damed.

I’ve wondered about this for quite some time. Maybe they are overcompensating because they know they didn’t do their job when W. was there. They want to heal their ego. They want to prove to themselves they are “journalists”. But since they’ve forgotten what real journalism is, that is, research and hard work, their model of “journalism” is all about gotcha questions and using the GOP talking points to create some “debate”.

But come to think of it, aren’t they always like this with democratic presidents ? Maybe this has something to do with the fact that with republican presidents they are always afraid of losing their job if they expose the friends of their bosses. And I’m pretty sure that republicans in power never hesitate to scare them, blackmail them even on refusal of access, career destruction, etc.

So they don’t dare question Power too much when republicans hold it, and when they have democrats in power who are nowhere as nasty towards them, they give themselves permission to become picky and critical. To reassure themselves they are still “journalists”.

Hi Dudette – if those who control the weather keep this up we won’t be bothered about a leaking roof – it will be no roof! Sometimes, I think it is good that the elements do what they do – stops some folks thinking they can control the world.

However, Ipswich – as mentioned in the story is not so far from us – about 25 miles from Brisbane – it has had a ghastly time over the past few years – just as rebuilding finishes from a flood – another flood – and when followed by storm after storm – it is easy to understand people wanting to walk away. It has been a long “wet season”.

Education is also what is needed and Zuckerberg has inject close to $100M in NJ.

Hiring a TBGOPer strategist makes sense for him.

Another book on the Must Read list:)

    http://www.alternet.org/books/outrageous-david-cay-johnston-explains-how-big-corporations-withhold-your-taxes-and-then

Let me give you a stunning number I reported the other day. From 1966 – when Lyndon Johnson was president — to 2011, 45 years later, the bottom 90 percent of Americans’ average income, as reported on tax returns, went up by a stunning $59 — almost no change at all. If you measure that $59 increase for the vast majority of Americans as one inch, then on the same scale, the incomes of those in the top 10 percent went up by 168 feet. The top one percent, 888 feet. The plutocrats — the Mitt Romney crowd, the top one percent of the top one percent? Their incomes rose by almost five miles relative to that one inch.

Almost hard to wrap your head around…..Almost.

I heard a discussion of this by the author on NPR.

I have told others that I believe that all those who are interested in exposing why states are going bankrupt & having no funds for schools & other basic services need to read this.

I thought that all those who are against corporate welfare and are interested in worker’s rights need to have this as mandatory reading

Brings back memories! The second inauguration was affirming, especially for those of us who’ve been paying attention and know just how blessed we are to have President Obama. But the first inauguration was magical – and this piece of music and the performance itself, just added to the magic of that day. It’s especially touching that while they were playing this music, the clock struck 12pm and the presidency transferred to President Obama for the first time, even before taking the oath.

    How far we HAVEN’T come…

“As we view the achievements of aggregated capital, we discover the existence of trusts, combinations, and monopolies, while the citizen is struggling far in the rear, or is trampled beneath an iron heel. Corporations, which should be the carefully restrained creatures of the law and the servants of the people, are fast becoming the people’s masters.”

I do not know if all the facts in this article are true but it has made my blood boil this morning.

Apparently, we not only have to fight against right-wingers to protect ObamaCare – we have to shame some in PBO’s party who are choosing big industry & the Chamber of Commerce over the un-insured!!

We need to determine which of the Democratic Senators are trying to undermine crucial funding of ObamaCare & the un-insured before it comes on line?

please read and see if these Dems can be such hypocrites and yet they are most the heros for the people who are ALWAYS proclaiming to be more progressive than PBO
