    Misdiagnosing the Problem

    by BooMan

I want to discuss each of these ideas separately. The debates hurt the Republicans because their candidates were far outside of the mainstream. Rick Santorum is not a normal politician. Michele Bachmann is a space cadet. Rick Perry is a moron. Newt Gingrich is a very strange individual. Ron Paul is not really a Republican. Herman Cain is just silly. In combination, those candidates were more like a circus act than people offering a serious critique of the president’s policies. In 2004 and in 2008, the Democratic debates, which were also numerous, didn’t hurt the party at all. In fact, they hurt President Bush because the candidates were offering substantive critiques and the news organizations were covering those critiques and taking them seriously. The Democrats weren’t discussing birth certificates or the implementation of Sharia Law or anything equivalently detached from reality.

After the 2008 Victory by sen Obama, the righties complained that the many debates by Dems made that win possible for it energized pres-elect Obama’s Dem Base. So in 2011, TBGOPers had numerous debates. Now after another loss, they now blame the debates for their loss. Not one Journo reminded these people what they said and what the Media themselves said as well. I remember, the righties smirking saying that the lengthy debates and primaries would be a loss for Dems. They said that the division between Senators Obama and Clinton camps were so HUGE that reconciliation was impossible. We had PUMAs. Heck that was why John McCain picked Sarah Palin. Now they think that many of Us have forgotten all that took place?

Well, if the TBGOPers delusional fog and the MSM’s codependency continues, heck 2016, may it go as 2008 and 2012.

Nena you are exactly right. The Republican party will never grow or evolve appropriately because they repeatedly fail to accurately diagnose their own weaknesses (which are many and profound) and do something about them. And unfortunately, they have the corrupt media coddling/enabling them and never allowing them to experience the full consequences of that failure.

Someone had tweeted that at the CPAC meeting, there was no consensus on why Romney lost in 2012. Well, duh!?! When you spend 3 whole days focusing on nonsense like Obama’s teleprompter or birth certificate, featuring washed-up, has beens like Donald Trump and/or Sarah Palin as the main events, there is no reflection on where the party went wrong and why they just lost a major election after spending billions to win.

          HF, You are so right.

Let us keep wishing that Karma continues to reward their wishes with the same Results from 2008 and 2012. 1992 and 1996. 2000 was great too. Scalia and Rehnquist took the Victory from Al Gore to GW Bush.

May the TBGOPers continue with their turmoil confused state of misery.

After spending nearly $6B to try and defeat ONE Black Man……the Billionaires didn’t say enough and ask for TBGOPers to account for the defeat. Sheldon Aderlson said he is prepared to spend more. So may they continue to spend and May they keep getting the Very same result………Losing. πŸ˜‰

Funny Definition Of “Liberties” You Have There, Rand Paul
    Posted by Zandar
Sen. Rand Paul is nothing more than a misogynist Tea Party douchebag like the rest of the Republican party’s “conservatives”. The use of sweeping federal power to outlaw choice is fine, as long as it’s used against groups that don’t include the subset of white Republican male senators.

I received this e-mail earlier today and have seen similar ones before though never in this light. If any of this is true, the American people are being thoroughly SCREWED! I wonder why this isn’t a big deal with the MSM? Sorry for the rant.

Who died before they collected Social Security?

Remember, not only did you and I contribute to Social Security but your employer did, too.

It totaled 15% of your income before taxes.

If you averaged only $30K over your working life, that’s close to $220,500.

    Read that again.

Did you see where the Government paid in one single penny?

We are talking about the money you and your employer put in a Government bank to insure you and I that we would have a retirement check from the money we put in, not the Government.

Now they are calling the money we put in an entitlement when we reach the age to take it back.

If you calculate the future invested value of $4,500 per year (yours & your employer’s contribution) at a simple 5% interest (less than what the Government pays on the money that it borrows), after 49 years of working you’d

    have $892,919.98.

If you took out only 3% per year, you’d receive $26,787.60 per year and it would last better than 30 years (until you’re 95 if you retire at age 65) and that’s with no interest paid on that final amount on deposit!

If you bought an annuity and it paid 4% per year, you’d have a lifetime income of $2,976.40 per month.

Another thing with me…. I have two deceased husbands who died in their 50’s, (one was 51 and the other one was 59 before one percent of their social security could be drawn.

I worked all my life and am drawing 100% on my own social security).

Their S.S. money will never have one cent drawn from what they paid into S.S. all their lives.

Entitlement my foot, I paid cash for my social security insurance!

Just because they borrowed the money for other government spending, doesn’t make my benefits some kind of charity or handout!!

Remember Congressional benefits? — free healthcare, outrageous retirement packages, 67 paid holidays, three weeks paid vacation, unlimited paid sick days.

Now that’s welfare, and they have the nerve to call my social security retirement payments entitlements?

We’re “broke” and we can’t help our own Seniors, Veterans, Orphans, or Homeless.

They call Social Security and Medicare an entitlement even though most of us have been paying for it all our working lives, and now, when it’s time for us to collect, the government is running out of money.

Why did the government borrow from it in the first place?

It was supposed to be in a locked box, not part of the general fund.

    Sad isn’t it.

hope that after PBO’s trip to Isreal, he and Dems totally ignore the circus on debt reduction through cuts or grand bargain because, the gop will just obstruct farther

instead focus should turn on PBO’s main agenda including gun-control, immigration, climate change, civil rights/voting rights and especially job-creation.

If more people are working, the revenues from taxes will go a long way in dealing with some of the debt issues

As long as the sequester is in place the cuts it made will continue to punish our citizens. We need to cancel the sequester.

How could it be moral to continue to legislate as though nothing terrible was happening?
I think Ignoring the cuts are only possible for people not affected by them.

Maybe I am misunderstanding you, globalcitizenlinda. I am sure you mean well.

      • 57 globalcitizenlinda
        March 17, 2013 at 9:21 pm

true my thoughts are not clear as should be.

What I am trying to say is that the gop is just wasting the Presidents time and will NEVER agree to a “grand bargain” because they insist on no new revenues/taxes. it is also hard to see how Dems agree to destruction of safety net without shared sacrifice from the corporations & rich individuals. so by spending the bulk of PBO’s time on reducing debt, the gop is using this tactic to run out the clock on other avenues through which more jobs would be created and other changes in policies which are also critical.

definitely the sequester MUST be cancelled because it is very destructive to so many ppl many of whom have so little to begin with and its also doing really damage to current & future economy.

I am just puzzled that there seems to be very little protesting activity from people who are most hurt directly by the sequester. Lack of vocal opposition to Sequester really frustrates me – it seems that people have hidden their heads in the sand and are all looking to PBO to solve this issue.

It is us, the people, who can make this group of gop take notice of the harm the sequester is doing nationally by making very loud noises. you can see that the lazy media is focused on cancellation of White House Tours just because the rightwing media is focing the issue through obnoxious protests.

although many have reported that both PBO & BDF VP will be out of the US at the same time, I suspect that the timing may be altered in such a way that PBO leaves after VP touches down.

The President, so long as he is not incapacitated, remains in control no matter where he is in the world. In other words, he is still the one who makes final decisions, both affecting domestic and foreign issues, regardless of whether he is in the air or on the ground any where in the world. The only time you should be concerned is if both the President and Vice President are incapacitated. That’s the only time “cry baby orange man” would be any where near the Presidency and “in charge of domestic US.” Obviously it’s good optics to have the VP home whenever the President is abroad. But understand that the VP cannot exercise the powers of the Presidency just because the President is abroad.

So true Linda – i remember one interview when someone decided to stir & asked about Palin – PBO said something like “I never think of her”. The only time the President spoke of Mrs Palin was to say this

“Sen. Barack Obama said firmly that families are off-limits in the campaign for president, reacting to news that GOP running mate Sarah Palin’s 17-year-old daughter is pregnant. “Let me be as clear as possible,” Obama said. “I think people’s families are off-limits, and people’s children are especially off-limits. This shouldn’t be part of our politics. It has no relevance to Gov. Palin’s performance as governor or her potential performance as a vice president.”

Sarah Palin should have got down on her knees and thanked him – the whole discussion about Palin’s children could have become very ugly. PBO stopped it before it started.

My view – those children were massively involved in Sarah’s politics – not in a good way – but the President is a much kinder person that I will ever be.

They were here in Oklahoma to push it, and Oklahoma is home to the huge majority of fundamentalist right wing religios. One interesting note….at lunch today with our daughter, son-in-law and his family, two of them have watched it, and they said what they noticed was how DIRTY everyone looked! Hair is long and greasy, no one is beautiful….so at least that is more realistic. They mentioned several people, but especially King David. Our son-in-law’s mom said her picture of David had always been Gregory Peck, gorgeous man, in David and Bathsheba…….but in this series, they are not beautiful at all. She especially remarked about David’s stringy, greasy hair…….

On another note. Today I wrote the evening news of NBC, CBS and ABC telling them we expect FULL and Complete coverage of the President’s trip this week. That means objective facts, not half-baked opinions of some reporters, and pictures! I reminded NBC that when GWB went, we were forcefed pictures of him all the time. I doubt it will make much difference, but it felt good to say what I did.

So why is the devil so dark? It’s the color of bad people! I certainly agree as to who will watch this show – fairy stories for the dumb and ignorant. Add in a devil played by a black man – and still more will watch. History is not bible stories – they are fiction.

“it’s the color that makes people like Glenn Beck say that…” So why is the history channel running a show that depicts satan as a black man? I don’t know about you, but as far as I am concerned that image looks like President Obama. Simply put: it’s a disgusting subliminal message!

          March 18, 2013 at 12:14 am

I agree nathkatun7. This was clearly designed to look like the President – whether or not some people actually think it looks like him is beside the point. Most racist people will immediately see the resemblance and accept the desired message.

          • 133 nathkatun7

“Most racist people will immediately see the resemblance and accept the desired message.”

Exactly, hopefruit2! The danger, of course, is that this will further inflame the racist passionate hatred of the President. But now they can hide behind a supposedly reputable History Channel. This is similar to what happened in response to Reconstruction that enfranchised Black males, who then went on to be elected in record numbers. What used to be a fringe terrorist movement’s (the KKK) determination to restore white supremacy was legitimized by the motion picture: “The Birth of the Nation,” which was produced by respected people, and was highly praised by the President of the United States, Woodrow Wilson, who proclaimed that it was true “History written in lightening.” The movie, “The Birth of the Nation” not only legitimized the KKK, but It also legitimized the idea that it was a mistake to have made Black people citizens and allowed them the right to vote and the right to run for elective office. What I saw in that image is a similar subliminal message, which thought to convey the idea that Americans, and especially deluded white folks, elected a Satan President.

Thankfully, we now have many sources of information so the message being sent can be easily debunked.

You are absolutely right, JOB! Like you, I think this was deliberate! Surely people running the history channel are not that stupid not to realize what they were doing when they racialized the image of satan and then went further by making him resemble the President. So seriously did they make this actor darker or was the actor a Black man with make-up looking sinister? I have no doubt that it is possible that the make-up artist might have made it and modeled it to look like a “Barack”? The producers of that show are a husband and wife team…..the wife, the lady that did a show about an Angel with Della Reese. She is English and a bit of a rightie. Yes, Touch With An Angel was the name of the show. If she and her husband did this, may they both go to Blazes.

Just in time for PBO’s visit to Israel, it is clear that the MSM is going to again go with the gop premise & set this trip as POTUS vs Israel.

Already, a glance at a few recent headlines from the US media include (ps, I am not the one who omits PBO’s title – PBO disrespect is uniform in media):

    “Isreal to grill Obama on …” ;

“For Obama, trip is a chance to repair relations with disappointed Israelis

‘J’lem to ask Obama to stop Syria arms transfers’

“We love Israel, but Israelis don’t like Obama”

‘Obama will Pressure, but Israel Should Politely Refuse’

headlines with alternative points of view/emphasis include:

“President Obama plans listening mission in Israel, West Bank”

“Oren: Obama’s agenda aims to combat Jewish history deniers”

“Obama to Appeal to Israelis in Trip”

“Hoenlein expects Obama to win over Israeli people”

The deepest place in the ocean is teeming with microscopic life, a study suggests.

An international team of scientists found that the very bottom of the Mariana Trench, which lies almost 11km (7 miles) down in the Pacific Ocean, had high levels of microbial activity.

The research is published in the journal Nature Geoscience.

The underwater canyon was once thought to be too hostile an environment for life to exist.

But this study adds to a growing body of evidence that a range of creatures can cope with the near-freezing temperatures, immense pressures and complete darkness.

They were feasting on a plentiful supply of dead plants and creatures that had drifted down from the sea surface, the decomposing matter becoming trapped within the steep walls of the trench.

“The amount of food down there and also the relative freshness of the material is surprisingly high – it seems to be surprisingly nutritious,” said Dr Turnewitsch.

The level of material found at the bottom of the trench was so high that it suggests the Mariana Trench – which is in an area of the ocean known as the Hadal zone – could play a key part in the carbon cycle and therefore in regulating the planet’s climate.

Here is what I found after several searches:

By Michael FalconeThe Washington Times and conducted by the GOP firm, Fabrizio, McLaughlin & Associates.
Here’s a rundown of the top 2013 CPAC straw poll finishers:
Ky. Sen. Rand Paul β€” 25 percent
Fla. Sen. Marco Rubio β€” 23 percent
    Other/Write-in β€” 14 percent
Former Pa. Sen. Rick Santorum β€” 8 percent
    N.J. Gov. Chris Christie β€” 7 percent
Wis. Congressman Paul Ryan β€” 6 percent
Wis. Gov. Scott Walker β€” 5 percent
Neurosurgeon Ben Carson β€” 4 percent
Texas Sen. Ted Cruz β€” 4 percent
La. Gov. Bobby Jindal β€” 3 percent
Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin β€” 3 percent
    Undecided β€” 1 percent

this time the fuzzy Math is closer. 102% way better than 124% πŸ˜‰ Hmm?

It is ONLY VP Biden, who can build relationships with McConnell or John Boehner.
It is Only Clinton that can save him and afforded him a 2nd term by saving the Dem Convention.
It is Scott Pouty that saved the debates and 47% won him the election.

Isn’t The Bible, with Obama as Satan—-I don’t see how anyone could deny the resemblance—-being aired on Lifetime also? I saw a promotion there and thought I saw it airing there once when I was channel surfing—–clicked away fast but I swear I saw it there. Something’s amiss—–like changes at Discovery and their Palin obsession etc.—–conservative media buying up all these outlets? Like they are with all the radio stations—–including in my area in Illinois? Even Animal Planet—-which I used to love—–because I love animals—–has changed and is now mostly about animals as beasts and attackers and the enemy——-I’m assuming to make hunting more palatable with the masses. Conservatives are buying up all the media—-making it a tough fight—-control the message, control the population. This dirty deed by The Bible directors/producers is so blatant and they should be sued/shut down.

The cons across the sea managed to defang the new press monitoring council that was supposed to stop the rupies style of gutter journalism. The right wing everywhere owes its existence to the moneyed class.

Nice wry comment from Chris Mason in the liny.

To anyone outside Westminster this must all sound like not so much a dance, but more like an enthusiastic disco on the head of a pin.

It boils down to how to set up a new system for regulating the newspapers that is respected, but not seen to be a law that undermines the freedom of the press.

After months of talks and hours before a crunch Commons vote, a few buckets of midnight oil were burnt to bring the political parties very close to a deal.

David Cameron, Ed Miliband and Nick Clegg will speak this morning to nail it down.

Government sources say officially there isn’t a deal yet because complexity and half two in the morning are not comfortable companions and the Prime Minister wasn’t at those nocturnal negotiations anyway.

Labour are claiming there will be a Royal Charter underpinned by law. But Conservatives say it is merely a clause that will say the Charter can’t be amended.

Or to put it another way, when is statutory underpinning not statutory underpinning? Let that disco begin.

    • March 18, 2013 at 8:26 am

“Buying up all the media……control the message, control the population…..” This has been the conservation plan for many years. I first learned about it reading David Brock’s “The Republican Noise Machine.” He spells out their entire “revolution plans” in that book and it was written many years ago. He (former Republican) was heavily involved in the gathering info against the Clinton’s, especially when they were in Arkansas. He came ‘clean’ and also came ‘out’ (gay) and, I believe has redeemed himself. He started Media Matters and I think, has done a good job with it.

Once I saw who was producing this….Roma Downey and her husband, I knew this production was not to be trusted. I remember Roma Downey from way back on Touched By an Angel with Della Reese. She is a far right evangelical fundamentalist, who will bend the production to her peculiar beliefs. I don’t know anything about her husband, but they were in Oklahoma last week promoting this, and Oklahoma is ripe for this kind of thing. It will only reinforce all the ugly prejudices.
This kind of program is certainly not needed now. Next the RWNJs will be calling for that to be shown in schools! Sad.
If there is one thing I stay away from, it’s “religious” programming. Cannot stomach it, and I was brought up in a minister’s home. Most of this stuff is total perversion.

And I see they have a whole money-making production to go along with this—-t-shirts, trinkets, companion books etc. I don’t see how they can get away with this—–this is defamation of the POTUS and worse. It seems to me there should be some legal way to stop this, but I imagine that would bring about a whole new level of brouhaha and support. If the evangelicals went wild about chick fil a, I can imagine what they would do with the halting of “The Bible”. It’s beyond belief and beyond despicable to me that this kind of manipulation is allowed to transpire. And I saw that this series has high ratings—-lots of people seeing an Obama devil.

And it is not 10:00, yet. Have so much to do, people to see. What a day this will be.

But with all that, praying PRESIDENT Obama has a safe trip going and coming. I cannot stand it when he is referred to as Obama!
I have tried to reason with this and make light of it, but I must be transparent……it really, really pisses me off!
Okay. Now, I feel better. Let the day begin!
