chat away: musical early st. patrick’s day edition

First a little Chieftains.

Now, of course, some Van the Man.

Nothing says “St. Paddy’s Day” like The Pogues.

And finally, the late lamented Kirsty MacColl, who was English, but should have been Irish.

And no, no Enya.

Consider this your evening open thread.

Alabama Shakes is becoming one of my favorite bands.

Oh my!!!!! A 21st Century Janice Joplin on the rise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • March 15, 2013 at 10:28 pm

I understand Russell Crowe is a big time Alabama_Shakes fan, so that can be good news! Not surprising, eh?

      • March 15, 2013 at 11:55 pm

Bob, I had never heard of Alabama Shakes, but it was something about the sounds and disposition of the lady that I said Deja Vu. Thank God that you mentioned Janice Joplin, because that is the answer to “my” Deju Vu. Thanks>>

Wow. I’d heard their name but never any music! Unreal. Thanks SO much – destined to become one of my new fav bands!! Showing my age here, but I remember my boyfriend at the time (now my husband of 45 years – though I did get married VERY young, haha) sitting outside the Golden Bear in Huntington Beach listening to Janis. We didn’t have the $3 per person to get tickets. My best friend was with us also – still my best friend of 50 years this year.

Again, thanks bunches; so much music today is so formulaic. Lucky to grow up when I did. From the best music into technological wonders. And no Aids in the lovin’ years. πŸ˜‰

WOW, take a nap and miss a whole thread! I’ll have to go back later and read the brilliance that LL has brought forth…

Meanwhile, just reading the Philly paper and found the below little gem. Most glancing at the subtitle would think this azzhole was a guest of the President. NOT; he’s a rethug and was the guest of our PA-07 congresscritter… Of course, they don’t provide that info until the end of the story…

Marcus Hook mayor probed in gun incident at his home
Mari A. Schaefer, INQUIRER STAFF WRITER
    POSTED: Friday, March 15, 2013, 4:48 PM
He was a guest at President’s State of the Union address just a year ago.

Now, he is under investigation for allegedly shooting a gun in his house and giving alcohol to a 20-year-old whom he threatened to hold
    hostage.

      March 16, 2013 at 8:37 am

Yes, the MacBook Pro does have Adobe Flash when you buy the laptop and walk through the set up. Adobe Flash already comes equipped and you get regular free updates of the newest Adobe that all you have to do is quit Safari and click the install button for Adobe and it’ll update your Adobe.

(To quit Safari, all you have to do is go look up at the top space bar of your Mac and you will see “Safari” click on it, a list will pop up, scroll down and you will see “Quit Safari”, click on that and you will exit out of Safari so that Adobe can load properly)

(if you go ahead and buy the Mac, when you set it up, make sure you check mark the button that enables Safari to pop back up if for any reason it shuts down or you quit it. What this does is that no matter what happens, if you shut down your computer or “Quit Safari” then when you turn on your computer again and click on “Safari” all the windows and websites you were previously on will pop back up. It’s fantastic like that. I don’t think this happens if you click the red “X” button which closes Safari)

Yes, I use Twitter and Facebook on my MacBook Pro. You can add them to your tabs (the Tabs bar is below the address bar) and the tabs has something called “News” and “Popular” in your “Popular” section if you click on it, a list will scroll down and you will see things like Amazon, Facebook, Flickr etc already uploaded or you can add them if you want by going to for example, http://www.facebook.com, clicking the Bookmarks button on that you’ll see at the top of the page of your MacBook Pro, click “Add Bookmark”, on the “Add This Page To” section, you’ll click “Popular” instead of “News” since Facebook and Twitter are a popular site you visit and then you’ll see “Facebook” in blue highlight and then an “Add” button and bingo! It’s added to your “Popular” section.

Yes, the MacBook Pro has a Homepage. Since Apple uses “Safari” instead of “Internet Explorer” you will click “Safari” (It’s a blue circle that looks like a compass) and when you click “Safari” it will pop open and that’s your internet. Safari’s default Homepage is http://www.apple.com. You can always change your Homepage to whatever you want it to be.

I hope this has helped you. Shoot me more questions if you have any. πŸ˜€

I guess Israel is going to press the President on releasing Pollard from federal prison.
He did get convicted of spying, so WTF does Israel care so much about Pollard?
And Israel also will press this President about attacking Iran.

No wonder the President hasn’t gone to Israel before now! LOL!

Pollard stole vital secrets including a map showing the targeting of Soviet missile sites during the Cold War which ended up being traded by then Prime Minister Yitzak Shamir in exchange for for permission for Russian Jews to immigrate. He should get no deals. As for attacking Iran, last choice only for our president. He will polititely nod to Netanyahu and move the conversation to other topics. Message is Go fuck yourself, Binnie!

Two guys went to a gas station that was holding a contest: a chance to win free sex when you filled your tank. They pumped their gas and went to pay the male attendant.

“I’m thinking of a number between one and ten,” he said. “If you guess right, you win free sex.”

“Okay,” agreed one of the guys, “I guess seven.”

“Sorry, I was thinking of eight,” replied the attendant.

The next week they tried again. When they went to pay, the attendant told them to pick a number.

    “Two!” said the second guy.

“Sorry, it’s three, said the attendant. “Come back and try again.”

As they walked out to their car, one guy said to the other, “I think this contest is rigged.”

“No way,” said his buddy. “My wife won twice last week.”

      Traditional Irish Blessing

May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields and,
      Until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Was trying to sleep but could not help but reflect on 16 March 2003 when I and many many others were calling and writing the White House, Senators, Reps, everyone we could begging them to not attack Iraq. The image I will never be able to erase is the photo in this tweet. I remember the first time I saw it, and the several times I posted it in comments on various blogs …

    http://t.co/s5Zd1ord0y

LPs tweet brought all those memories rushing back …

As we approach 20 March 2013, let us all do everything we can to remind Americans and the world that we despise what GWB and his gang of #NEOCONSTERS did to the people of Iraq, and to all humanity, by launching a criminal assault on innocent men, women and children.

It is long past Tribunal Time in the United States of America.

‘ Thank you for taking the time to read and rate my political prospective as The Pragmatic Pundit. While I occupy only a tiny corner of the blogoshere, hacking and harrassment have just been too problematic. As a result I am closing down The Pragmatic Pundit and moving everything to a new site which I will call The Political Pragmatic.

Oh – I didn’t see that – thank you susanne – Fay is an absolute delight to read – her comments on TOD are factual, insightful and amusing – the skill to use humor to promote reality is not held by many. It is truly sad that bullying and harassment and pure evil are giving grief to some of the best blogs on the net.

more good stuff for st paddy’s day:

‘ For Ireland, former president Mary Robinson is as iconic a figure as Eleanor Roosevelt is here in the United States. During her presidency, from 1990 to 1997, she recast a historically ceremonial role into a powerful one, symbolic of Irish spiritβ€”and of the hopes of the country’s women. Now, in time for St. Patrick’s Day, the onetime U.N. high commissioner for human rights has published her memoir, Mary Robinson: Everybody Mattersβ€”a book that dovetails with the U.S.’s own rekindled debate about women and power. ‘
