House Republicans Can’t Explain How Obama’s Policies Got Into Paul Ryan’s Budget

    By: Jason Easley

Why is it fine for Ryan’s budget to assume that one thing that was upheld by the Supreme Court (Obamacare) will be repealed, while another thing that Republicans have desperately fought against will be the law of the land?More importantly, Republicans can’t explain how Barack Obama’s tax policies made it into their budget.

The Ryan budget will essentially endorse President Obama’s balanced approach to increasing revenue. The truth is that House Republicans know that they can’t balance the budget without more revenue. Their cut and never raise taxes mantra makes for a great campaign slogan, but it doesn’t work in the real world. As President Obama consistently stressed during the 2012 campaign, the numbers don’t add up when a cuts only approach is used.

Paul Ryan’s Budget is So Delusional that Even Fox News is Calling BS

    By: Jason Easley

Rep. Paul Ryan’s budget is so out of whack with reality that even Fox News has step back and say, ‘Whoa, wait a minute, there buddy. What are you smoking in order to make these numbers work?’

Ryan has always been reluctant to discuss the assumptions built into his budget plans. When Chris Wallace pointed out that the repeal of Obamacare is not going to happen, Ryan’s answer was that it should. Rep. Ryan has finally outed his budget as nothing more than ideological wish list. There is no reality in his budget. The Ryan Budget is the byproduct of a grown man trapped in a teenage boy’s Randian fantasy.

It turns out that the Republican numbers guy is basing his budget on things that ought to happen instead of what is really happening. Despite all the hoopla Ryan generates for himself in the mainstream media, his budgets have become a yearly self inflicted wound on the Republican Party.

Ryan is overrated by his own party.

    • March 11, 2013 at 4:12 pm

In other words, his phoniness is finally showing, even the dumbarses are seeing it….

    • 26 jackiegrumbacher
      March 11, 2013 at 4:14 pm

LH, Ryan outed himself during the campaign. He made it clear to the dimmest wit that he was an empty suit who made up phony numbers and hadn’t an idea in his head of what he was talking about. We’ve all seen ‘fakers’ like this in our various jobs–someone who acts knowledgeable, even tries to talk with some authority, but really knows nothing. Only the lamest of R’s will think they’ve got something with the Ryan budget. He will huff, puff, milk it for all the publicity it’s worth and then watch it go down in flames. He is in way over his head as a congressman. Too bad he didn’t lose that job as well in 2012.

The GOP’s love/hate relationship with ‘Obamacare’

    By Steve Benen

If you peruse today’s news, you’ll run across stories that may seem contradictory. On the one hand, you’ll find plenty of coverage of congressional Republicans saying they remain committed to repealing the Affordable Care Act (“Obamacare”). On the other, you’ll also see pieces noting that congressional Republicans intend to use the savings from the health care law to balance the budget.

Which is it? Actually, it’s both.

It remains true that GOP lawmakers are committed to Obamacare repeal as if the 2012 election never happened.

Chips, I didn’t fully realize until this last week how much stress you have to take on to run this blog so efficiently and successfully. You created a unique and wonderful place that is the only reliable source of aggregate news and opinion that I trust. You’ve done it out of love and not for any name promotion or gain of any sort. That’s an amazing gift you’ve given us and I hope you know how very grateful all of us are. If I was not an absolute technological klutz, I would offer to help, but I’ve rarely met a tech challenge I could overcome without massive support. There are so many wise, well-informed, technologically brilliant people on this site that I hope they can provide you with all the rest and re-charging time that you need and want.

I admired the mom whom I believe is part of the Moms Demand Action who was on the cycle today who said they will not stop until we have common sense gun control legislation in this country. Moms from 30 states are descending on D.C. on Wed. to “take the hill” and have their voices heard. They are doing something important, devoting time and effort to what is likely the most important issue of the day. They are the change.

These are the people who wait each day for their children to come home from school safely – never should anyone have to worry about their loved ones being safe – in school – and never will that happen while weapons of war are so easily obtained – by anyone. The love for our children is a most basic instinct and taking away those children should be the Waterloo for the gun lobby – in a sane world. I believe the whole concept of the “numbers” that the NRA gives politicians may be working in reverse in 2014.

Thanks, Chips for tending for our care and feeding this weekend. Since I missed Friday’s post about your troll problems, not sure what some members of the TOD community volunteered to do, but whatever it is, I’m sure they’ll do a stupendous job.

Good luck to them and to you.

Wasn’t able to post this before now, unfortunately afer today’s Martin Bashir show ended, but wanted to let those TOD members in the Philly area know about this:

Jim is a wonderful and generous person (only know him through twitter, he’s one of the first people I followed), and he established @guncrisisnews guncrisis.org last year because of the escalating gun-related shootings taking place in Philly last year (no Johnny-come-lately he).

He’s honestly searching for solutions to reduce the carnage and fear associated with gun violence in the Philly area.

Sorry that I’m late to this, hope some TODers watched Bashir today.

And those of you on twitter, give @JimMacmillan a follow!

the battle for gun safety is happening on so many levels….

i will follow and check that website…

amazing stat was quoted…at least 1 gun death every day for the last 25 yrs here in Philadelphia…and the pivotal word…is ….at least….
imagine the amount of families and communities that have been effected…

Gun safety laws have been passed here in Philly only to be blocked by the state legislature….

but i feel with this increased fervor and increased activism around the country…that as PBO has said….THIS TIME WILL BE DIFFERENT..

        March 11, 2013 at 6:32 pm

“…at least 1 gun death every day for the last 25 yrs here in Philadelphia…”

How did we get to that number? I remember as a kid and teen, headlines in the EVENING BULLETIN of “Gang Violence Claims 25th Victim” 25 or 30 was a real big deal! Seemed to me, publishing those headlines activated the community to police their neighborhoods. Things got better for a while, then a combination of newspapers folding, jobs leaving, and urban flight, resulted in less reporting and an escalation of violence… Moving back here was culture shock!

Tourists hoping to see the Constitution, the Bill of Rights or the Declaration of Independence this summer will have to show up during the day, since—due to the sequester— the National Archives won’t be keeping the exhibits open late as it has in the past.

And starting Friday, researchers seeking to look at Archives records in Washington, D.C. and in College Park, Md. will see evening hours that have been year-round for several years eliminated, according to an Archives announcement out Monday.

“We don’t take these reductions lightly,” Archivist David Ferreiro said in a statement. “We are working hard to achieve our mission and minimize disruptions to the services we provide to the public.”

An Archives spokeswoman said the agency is seeking to make cuts mandated by the sequester without furloughing personnel. She did not immediately have details on how forgoing evening hours for exhibit goers and ending evening hours for researchers would achieve savings.

There will still be some opportunities for those who want to visit the Archives but can’t do so during business hours. Despite the cuts, the founding documents and related exhibits will be open to public view on weekends, as they are on weekdays, between 10 A.M. and 5:30 P.M.  And research rooms will be open from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. on Saturdays, as they are on weekdays.

    • March 11, 2013 at 11:34 pm

It’s like the reporters didn’t understand that cuts to government department budgets would mean real cuts to government services and damage to government employees – real people, real families.

Inviting TODobots swimmers over for a dip in my new basement pool. The water continues to spread so you need not worry there won’t be enough for YOU to get a good, refreshing dip. The plumber and his son dropped by, looked around, stayed less than 30 mins, told me it’s not a plumbing problem and charged $201.34. Sweet…..(for them)! I think I’ll put it on mental hold and start again early tomorrow with a call to the town. Life’s good! (Can you see my false smile?)

        March 11, 2013 at 5:42 pm

Water is seeping in from the bottom of the basement fireplace, coming apparently from the thawing snow on the side of the house. Not sure why, since this is a first, but plumber did suggest calling the town in the morning for their engineers to come take a look – neighbours have done some paving to the corresponding side of their house. 🙄 In the meantime, I’m calm only because although there is a lot of ice thawing on the side I don’t see basement water rising to the level of the bedrooms. I’ve decided I’ll ‘worry’ tomorrow as there is absolutely NOTHING *I* can do to stop the flow. Sigh.

    • March 11, 2013 at 6:17 pm

May I regretfully decline such a generous invitation? I have water enough in my own basement 6-7 months of the year…. Oh wait, I’m told that is part of the joy of living in the beautiful Puget Sound region! And actually, that is true!

I’ve had enough of Fineman and his sources. He’s on Tweety trashing Ashley Judd—–saying the Obama people don’t want her—-I would like the name of that source—–because—- the Dems won Va. twice—????——I didn’t follow that convoluted reasoning—–and that she has some “nekkid” pictures out there from her movie days—oooooh—and that she is too Hollywood and liberal——he was just pulling stuff out of who knows where—–wherever his source resides, I will not speculate. Then he tries to cover a bit when everyone else is saying how well-spoken she is and has been a great activist for womens’ rights and human rights, I might add, that she’s no dummy etc.—–so Fineman adds something about ‘yeah, there are some women in Kentucky who would like to see her run.’ Weak, and could he spare it? I don’t believe a word Fineman says. He just makes up stuff. Worthless blabbing.

Today, ace reporter Mara Liasson asked a stupid question that prompted Jay Carney to ask if she was still using a TYPEWRITER. It was hilarious. Of course, that could be asked of the entire White House Press Corps. Seriously, the jackals are lazy. The questions they ask are really unbelievable. Whitehouse.gov is there for a reason. There is a wealth of detailed information on projects and initiatives being implemented for the good of the American people. It would be nice if more of the jackals took the time to check it out.

Press Briefing by Press Secretary Jay Carney, 3/11/2013

Q On the budget, can we assume that the entitlement reform ideas that are in the offer that you always say is still on the table will be in his budget — superlative CPI and the means testing of Medicare?

MR. CARNEY: Mara, the way you phrase that question makes me think that you’re still working on a typewriter or something. It’s available online. The proposal is there. It’s not just that I say they’re on the table. They’re on the table, all right?

Q Okay. But they’ll be in the budget?

MR. CARNEY: Well, again, I’m not going to predict the budget, but that is the offer, okay?

Q Right, but I’m asking will that be in the budget. That’s a fair question.

MR. CARNEY: Again, you’re asking me to tell you what’s in the budget. I would be — I would wait for you for the — I would wait for the budget to come out. But it is the President’s position, it is the President’s offer — if John Boehner, the Speaker of the House, wanted to take that offer today, the President would take him up on it.

Q Well, it seems like it would be — obviously then it would be in the budget.

MR. CARNEY: Again, Mara, I will allow the budget to be presented.

    More here….

To be fair, I get a lot of it from their parents too. We just had a field trip to a nature center. We were limited to 3 chaperons. I sent this letter to a parent who was not picked to go. “We have been limited by the Nature Center to 3 chaperons per class. Unfortunately you were not picked. We have another trip coming up later in the year so perhaps you will be able to go on that one. Thank you for all the time you give to our class.”
Her reply: “Does this mean I’m not going?” o.O

Housing Department to Shut Down for 7 Days

    by JM Ashby

The consequences of sequestration are going to ripple for months.

(Reuters) – The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development on Monday said it plans to shut its doors for a total of seven days between May and September due to budget cuts and will furlough more than 9,000 employees on those days. […]

At least the rich will still have their tax cuts for their corporate jets…

I heard last week on NPR that some of the smaller airports would need to shut down because their wouldn’t be enough air traffic controllers. They said these airports are pretty much exclusively used by corporate CEOs with their private jets. They said it was unfair to inconvenience these CEOs because of the sequester, because now they were going to have to use commercial airports, withore traffic. I felt so sorry for them… (Not!) At least they still have the tax cuts for those jets – a small price to pay? Well, that, plus a few jobs here and there…

The chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus said she is concerned that President Obama has not yet appointed African-Americans to his second-term Cabinet.

Rep. Marcia Fudge (D-Ohio) said Obama’s appointees do not reflect the nation’s diverse population — at least, so far.

“I am concerned that you have moved forward with new cabinet appointments and yet, to date, none of them have been African American,” her letter to Obama states. “You have publicly expressed your commitment to retaining diversity within your cabinet. However, the people you have chosen to appoint in this new term have hardly been reflective of this country’s diversity.”

in an earlier thread there were comments about Conyers and his negative comments regarding PBO and drones..i went to look up Conyers record…he is one of the founding members of the CBC and has supported and introduced very progressive legislation during his time in office….which has spanned many years..he has one of the longest tenures in House….

but some in the leadership (many who during their time in office have had on marching boots) of the CBC seem to always be on the defense against PBO…

is it just a simple case of jealousy and envy….what is the real reason for their seemingly constant opposition to him….same for Smiley and esp West…what is it with these so called Blk leadrs who never seem to tire of trashing PBO and who never seem to support his policies…..

  61. 156 lamh36
    March 11, 2013 at 7:03 pm

did ya’ll see that crap from Howard Fineman on Tweety’s show?

the segment was about Ashley Judd. Fineman was reporting that the old school Dem establishment in KY DO NOT WANT Judd to run.

when Alex Wagner pointed out that if the Obama apparatus if behind Judd, then Judd who will be able to fundraise big and who has been a big, vocal and very articulate supporter of women’s rights and with the GOP’s stupidity when it comes to women’s issues, then McConnell should be scared.

So then Fineman said “the Obama people don’t want Judd either” and then when challenged by Tweety, he added some caveat about “well old school establishment” dems didn’t want her to run. Then when asked by Tweety, well who else they got and why not Judd, he said mentioned what his “sources” said and he mentioned Judd’s “mental issues”, her divorce, her liberalism, and then issues of her profession and Tweety was basically what are you talking about and Fineman said basically they were talking about her “nekkidness” in her films. He masked it in what his “sources” were saying, but if you saw the smirk on his face, you’d want to smack it off his face. It was disgusting.

Ugh. Now I fully expect the usual suspects, who should know better than to follow hacks like Fineman, will jump on the “the Obama people don’t want Judd either” bandwagaon even though, to my mind, Fineman began to try to backtrack from the statement both on the show and on twitter once challenged. Fineman’s “sources” line I suspect is bullshit, I just don’t see the Obama people leaking anything against Ashley Judd or any female Dem candidate right about now.

    Whatever Fineman, what ever.

    • 160 nathkatun7
      March 11, 2013 at 9:31 pm

“…and then issues of her profession…”

How can these people, like Howard Fineman, say this with a straight face? What does Ashley Judd’s profession got to do with it? Have they forgotten that St. Ronnie Reagan (the hero of the GOP) and Governor Terminator were Hollywood actors before they were elected to office?

and then there is this: “…and he mentioned Judd’s “mental issues”, her divorce…”

Why didn’t Fineman confront his sources about double standards? Why is divorce an issue for women Democrats and not for Republican men? Surely Fineman knows that divorced Republicans have been elected to office. The most notable examples : Ronald Reagan and John McCain

Fineman is a very unethical reporter. He knows exactly what he is doing with this negative trashing of Ashley Judd that passes on as some kind of objective reporting. Clearly, he is trying to undermine her candidacy before it’s launched because he is fully aware that her successful candidacy could be the end of Mitch McConnell. But Fineman is also a coward. Instead of standing behind his opinion of Ms. Judd, and may be his preference to see Mitch McConnell back in the Senate, he hides behind unnamed sources.

While there are situations where reporters are justified in protecting their sources if, for example, those sources are whistle blowers who might lose their jobs for exposing corruption, and government misdeeds. But I see no reason why political people who bad mouth their opponents should be accorded anonymity. If Fineman was an ethical reporter he should have insisted that those Democrats who were bad mouthing Ashley Judd should go on record because Judd has no governmental power to punish them.

As far as I am concerned, what Howard Fineman did should not be regarded as reporting. What he did, on national television, was, at best, pure gossip. At worst, it was Howard Hineman’s calculated plan to undermine Ashley Judd, using his prestige as a journalist while hiding behind anonymous sources.

      • 161 majiir
        March 12, 2013 at 12:25 am

I never listen to anything Fineman has to say because a lot of the things he says are based on his personal perspective of the issues. He has no insider knowledge of what “Establishment Dems” in KY want. I doubt if he’s even talked to most of them. I refuse to allow Fineman to depress me with his bullsh*t, bullsh*t meant to disparage democrats. He’s had a bone to pick with everything having to do with PBO and the dems. He’s a coward who never says ugly things about the republicans who really deserve to have someone with a high profile in the media expose who/what they are. Whenever I see a pundit who only has complaints about one political party and its’ politicians, I immediately dismiss anything they have to say because they’re clearly partisan players.

Bob, you are always on top of things. Your tweets are absolutely spot on! Howard Fineman even had the audacity to cite Ashley Judd’s divorce as a negative, as if she is the only divorced person in U.S. history to seek elective office. People like Fineman have amnesia when it comes to males, and especially Republican males, who have run for office despite their divorces. Here are three examples of powerful Republican divorcees who run for office and were elected to powerful positions: Saint Ronnie Reagan was divorced, yet he was elated twice as Governor of CA and twice as President of the United States. John McCain was divorced, yet he was elected to the House of Representatives and to the Senate. He also run for president twice, and was eventually nominated as the Republican candidate for President in 2008. Newt Gingrich was divorced twice, yet he served as Speaker of the House of Representatives and also run for President. So why did Howard Fineman chose to include this tidbit about Ashley Judd’s divorce as a major negative. I don’t recall Howard Fineman, focusing on Newt Gingrich’s divorces (two of them) as one of the reasons he should not run for President. In my opinion, Howard Fineman did a HIT JOB on Ashley Judd! It’s this type tabloid gossiping that is presented as journalism, which is undermining our democracy. Howard Fineman, a supposedly reputable mainstream journalist, never once informed his listeners (audience) about Ms. Ashley Judd’s position on major issues facing this country.

        • March 12, 2013 at 2:15 am

“In my opinion, Howard Fineman did a HIT JOB on Ashley Judd! It’s this type tabloid gossiping that is presented as journalism, which is undermining our democracy.”

That’s exactly what he did, nath, and unfortunately for him he forgot he was in the 21st Century and not the 19th. He’s getting clobbered by lots and lots of folk who know BS when the read/hear it and are unrelenting in informing everyone that the guy is nothing more than a misogynistic hack.

Ms Judd should be thrilled to see how desperate these losers are and how strong, articulate and motivated her supports are. Mitch is no match for Ms Judd.

Why doesn’t Fineman name these “Obama folks”? In just one stroke of a tweet, he was able to attack both Ashley Judd and the unnamed “Obama folks.” Talk about “Divide and Conquer!” This is not journalism! This is gossip mongering by a supposedly mainstream journalists. As I said before, there is absolutely no compelling reason why Fineman doesn’t name the “obama folks” or the “established Democrats in Kentucky” who are cowardly attacking Ashley Judd behind her back. If Fineman was an objective journalist with ethics he should have insisted that those trashing Ms. Ashley Judd should come out openly and on record to. The fact that he didn’t do that, and now goes around using his media standing to spread smear and gossip, totally discredits him. I personally think Howard Hineman would much more at at home reporting for the gossip tabloids. He certainly is not a reputable journalist if he is willing to engage in this type of smear campaign against an intelligent and accomplished woman. Fineman couldn’t wait to smear Ms Judd even though she has yet to formally announce her candidacy for Senate from Kentucky. Here is a question that has not been asked, but needs to be asked: “Is Howard Finemant working for the re-election of Mitch McConnell? If not, why is he smearing Ms. Ashley Judd before she has even announced that she is running for Senate from Kentucky?

            He certainly should have, Carolyn!

BTW, I offered an apology to you in a prior thread – apparently, I misunderstood to whom you were referring as “Bob.” Hope you saw it.

Well, Bobfr, my curiosity was aroused, so I went back and read…….yes, all I was referring to was the Bob Schieffer, et al.discussion. I am 73, so feel free to comment on people his age. So sorry you thought I was aiming at you, I certainly wasn’t. I have deep respect for you and all you do. Your interaction with 99ts was not even part of my consciousness!

I did spot that, bobfr, and knew Carolyn meant schieffer, but it seemed too unwieldy for even MP to unravel. I figured you two would get it sorted if there was any real concern. Good on ya’!

Why didn’t Fineman name the “top Obama people” or the “KY old boys” who “don’t want her.” If Fineman doesn’t “have a dog in the fight one way or t’other…” why doesn’t he name his sources? If his sources preferred not to be named why did he take it upon himself to spread their innuendos, gossip, smears, and negative attacks against Ms. Ashley Judd, who, by the way, has not yet declared that she is Senate candidate for Kentucky?

      Great Tweet, AMK!

I think you guys on twitter should press Fineman to name the “Obama folks” who are “acidly dismissive of Ashley Judd.” What Fineman did with this tweet is to trash Ashley Judd, but at the same time blame his trashing of Ms Judd on the “Obama folks.” This is a classical method used to divide and conquer. I bet you the supporters of Ashley Judd are now highly suspicious of the nameless “Obama folks.” Which means that the Obama folks are going to have a very hard time to convince the “Judd folks” that they are on the same team. So I say it’s time to press Fineman to name names to back up his claims about “Obama folks” being anti Ashley Judd.

  90. March 11, 2013 at 9:36 pm

You know, you have always hear of “Enemy Number One”, right? and if what is being reported is true (because I don’t watch the news; I get mine from TOD) … then Ashley Judd, sweet, smart, savvy Ashley Judd is now “Enemy Number One” (for the Repugs) … and I think that is the greatest thing ever! Not to harp on the Judd thing, but George Clooney is also from Kentucky. Clooney is divorces w/no kids (as Judd will soon be). He’s shown his bottom in a movie or two. He also has liberal views and has been a liberal advocate as well.

Wanna bet how willing the establishment KY Dems would be to have George Clooney run for political office? It’s a double-freakin’ standard…PERIOD.

Forget George Clooney, lamh36! Kentucky voted twice for a divorced, B movie actor, Ronald Reagan who was twice elected President of the United States. Kentucky also voted for the divorced Presidential Candidate John McCain to be President of the United States. I personally think Howard Fineman made up this excuse, about Kentuckians being opposed to Ms. Judd because of her divorce, to cover up his shameless attacks on Ms. Judd. Until Fineman names names, his comments are entirely self-serving. Howard Fineman was absolutely under no obligation to report trash spewed by un named sources if his intention was not to either dissuade Ms Judd from running, or to undermine her character so as to give advantage to McConnell. Howard Fineman needs to name names of the people that he relied on to trash Ms. Ashley Judd!

Not to mention, Nath, that Ashley Judd never co-starred with a monkey, the way Reagan did. The whole divorce issue is a bunch of garbage. Smart beautiful, highly articulate women frighten some men whose only weapon against them is sneering, smearing and insinuation. I’m sure Ashley Judd has endured worse and knows how to bat this stuff back with a flick of her wrist. If she decides to run she will be very formidable and that’s what scares them.

Senate Panel to Question Obama’s SEC Nominee

Mary Jo White, President Barack Obama’s pick to be chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission, will likely face tough questions Tuesday from senators about her decade of legal work representing some of the nation’s largest banks and corporations.

But after the Senate Banking Committee hearing is over, White is ultimately expected to win confirmation from the full Senate and become the first former prosecutor to lead the top federal regulator overseeing Wall Street.

The Senate panel will also question Richard Cordray, who was re-nominated by Obama to head the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

…the fate of Cordray is far less certain. The consumer agency, created by the 2010 financial overhaul law in response to the crisis, was fiercely opposed by Wall Street interests and Republicans in Congress.

Obama resorted to a recess appointment last year to circumvent the Republicans and install Cordray as agency director. The appointment expires at year’s end.

    • 316 Jovie

Cordray gets hearing, but he is being blocked in full senate, will not be confirmed.

They always have hated any agency like this that lends help guidance to those they would love to see screwed! I’m certain that he has people in place there will will carry on his vision. It’s a damn shame. they have personally helped me out and have done it in a manner that people would be amazed and proud of.
The only way to make this agency stronger and enduring is to KICK THOSE BUMS OUT IN 2014! Get a majority, and let this country start to hum!

Paul Ryan’s Budget Repealed Obamacare to Appease the GOP ‘Fight Club’

Repealing Obamacare is impossible in the near term, so why does Paul Ryan’s budget assume it’s repealed? To keep a little more than a dozen guys happy. Fox News’ Chris Wallace told Ryan, “That’s not going to happen.” National Journal’s Jill Lawrence writes that repealing Obamacare is a “fantasy.” But there are 16 House Republicans living in an alternate universe.

…some House conservatives were upset that the continuing resolution to fund the government until the end of September did not defund Obamacare, and Republican leaders wouldn’t let them amend the bill to add that. So those 16 Republicans voted against their party on a procedural vote on the spending bill last week.

While President Obama has complained that he can’t even use a “Jedi mind meld” to reason with the House GOP, the House GOP can’t do the same to reason with itself. So NBC News’ First Read says that Ryan is including Obamacare in his budget because Republicans want to pass a budget with a majority of Republicans.

After the November elections, House Speaker John Boehner said Republicans would stop voting to kill Obamacare, something they did more than 30 times in the last Congress. “Obamacare is the law of the land,” Boehner said. He has not yet convinced enough Republicans in Congress.

    • 319 anniebella
      March 12, 2013 at 7:36 am

Proof once again that John Boehner does not have control of his own caucus. What a lousy speaker.

    • 320 jackiegrumbacher
      March 12, 2013 at 8:03 am

So, sw, we have to spend time and attention in the media on a hopeless budget designed to appease 16 out of 435 representatives to Congress. And 200 duly elected Democratic reps are not to even be considered in the budget process. The will of all the people who elected these Dems–some from heavily populated areas–is to be ignored so that the temper tantrums of 16 far right delusional Republicans can be catered to. This isn’t any way to run a high school student government group, let alone the United States Congress. Boehner would be in over his head in a third world banana republic. He has no business being in charge of anything as important as the US House. More people have to know about this outrage and they have to make their feelings loud and clear in 2014. Meantime, let’s keep putting the pressure on our own reps.
