Chips, if you haven’t read The Dirty Tackle’s “If it continued” piece on today’s match, please do. This made me snort laugh at the reference desk:

145′ — While sharing a tender embrace, Alex Ferguson injects Ronaldo with a slow-acting drug that will leave him paralyzed from the hair down until after the second leg. He briefly mourns his inability to feel human emotions, then thinks a hearty, sinister laugh.

OMG, I remember that photo. I spent at least a half hour writing a thesis on how genius it was when my computer froze. Drat! So then I wrote some brown-nosing (pun-intended) comment and you didn’t even notice it. The rest of that evening my bottom lip was dragging on the floor.

        [Yes, I’m pretty sure I really a 14 yr-old stuck in an ‘umpty-somthing’ body.]

Thank you SO much Chips. You know we love you to death but sometimes less is more. MMM, well FOR EXAMPLE the great photo is PERFECT in B&W. NO NEED TO SEARCH FOR COLOR. Hoofed animal poop pictures are also better in B&W if they are necessary AT ALL. Furthermore…………. Oh!!! BO IS GREAT IN COLOR OR B&W!!! (not to mention the rest of the First Family ;>)

For me, it depend on what the line is for. If it’s to vote, I may be pissed, but they’d have to bring in a wrestling team to drag me away if they wanna stop me me from voting (okay, or pepper spray or mad dogs… whatever). Now if I have to wait more the 10 minutes in the checkout line at the grocery store or at the bank, sayonara baby! 🙂

So, why don’t all states have mail in ballots, or is that a foolish question? Oregon was first, and now here in Washington we have this system, seems to be working well, and goodness gracious it makes voting so easy. As in easy peasy…..

I’ve been writing the WH with that suggestion for weeks now, asking them to look at Washington as inspiration. I think they must be tired of me, but if they can do it with fed taxes they can do it with voting!

I imagine it is much less expense all around. And people do not need to take time off work, nor mass in the huge number of poll workers, parking becomes a zero factor, and you must be a legally registered voter so the registration process is under control. I just love sitting with a cup of tea, my kitty and my voter pamphlet, which I read thoroughly, including all the For and Against arguments, so I can feel I have made the most informed decision possible. Then, blip, stamp, and buh bye! It’s gone. Fabulous.

I think the real reason is that it would help the working class (mostly Dems) be able to vote too easily. And they really don’t want just anybody voting. Gotta keep out the riff-raff. Seriously, I think that is the reason they don’t switch.

Pamela you guys in the Northwest ( Oregon/Washington) are so far ahead of the game. I think the reason you are so far ahead is because you are not pre-occupied with suppressing the votes of any group/ethnicity you don’t like.

Backing up a couple of posts – where Michelle hosts the folks from “Beasts of the Southern Wild” – I just want to chime in that this is such a spectacular movie. I know it didn’t penetrate very far in the cinemas around the country and a lot of people never got a chance to see it. It is available on Netflix. It’s the best movie I have seen in a long time and I’m thrilled that Mrs. Obama shares my opinion!

A girl asks her boyfriend to come over Friday night and have dinner with her parents. This being a big event, the girl tells her boyfriend that after dinner, she would like to go out and “do it” for the first time. Well, the boy is ecstatic, but he has never done it before, so he takes a trip to the pharmacist to get some protection. The pharmacist helps the boy for about an hour. He tells the boy everything there is to know about protection and doing it. At the register, the pharmacist asks the boy how many he’d like to buy; a 3-pack, a 10-pack, or a family pack. The boy insists on the family pack because he thinks he will be very busy, it being his first time and all.

That night, the boy shows up at the girl’s parent’s house and meets his girlfriend at the door. “Oh I’m so excited for you to meet my parents, come on in.” The boy goes inside and is taken to the dinner table where the girl’s parents are seated. The boy quickly offers to say grace and bows his head. A minute passes, and the boy still deep in prayer with his head down. Ten minutes pass and still no movement from the boy. Finally, after 20 minutes with his head down, the girlfriend leans over and whispers to her boyfriend, “I had no idea you were so religious.” The boy turns and whispers back, “I had no idea your father was a pharmacist.”

The Reverend Billy Graham tells of a time early in his ministry when he arrived in a small town to preach a sermon.

Wanting to mail a letter, he asked a young boy where the post office was.

When the boy had told him, Dr. Graham thanked him and said, “If you’ll come to the Church this evening, you can hear me telling everyone how to get to Heaven.”

“I don’t think I’ll be there,” the boy said. “You don’t even know your way to the post office.”

What, in God’s heaven, is wrong with Oklahoma? How could the people of Oklahoma have elected such an ignorant man, over and over again, to the Senate of the United States? It’s o.k. to be a conservative, but do you have to be so dumb and so consumed with hate? And this guy, Inhofe, is supposedly the senior Senator from Oklahoma. With all the years he has spent in the Senate, he is still clueless about what the filibuster is all about. It’s people like Inhofe, who are entrusted with the power of making public policy, that lead me to fully appreciate the prayer/ expression: “God Bless America.” It’s at times like these that we definitely need a higher power to save this country if people in states like Oklahoma keep voting for imbeciles to be in charge of formulating public policy.

I’m hearing differant things and I don’t know what to believe. Apparently he then went into the army and was fired there as well, perhaps by someone higher up in the police dept. giving him a bad opinion to the army. Anyway, anyone know more about this? The news is not saying anything. Anderson Cooper touched on it for a few minutes tonight. If any of this is true, it still isn’t right what Dorner did, but if it is true, what is wrong with the LAPD? And how corrupt are they? Is this another situation within the LAPD of racism?

I have heard what you heard. I’ve heard people familiar with LAPD blame them, and I heard the cops defend themselves. The cops are not disclosing much because they haven’t finished the investigation, but it smells fishy. There was a link to a transcript of police scanners that sounded bad for the cops. It was on a site like raw story or something.

Yes, I followed some of the news today and there were voices saying such as “burn that, light it on fire, burn it” sort of thing. And then they do a press conference today saying they didn’t purposely try to burn down the cabin. It was the 3rd phase of tear gas by means of fire, sounds a little like molotof cocktails which actually set the place on fire. Regardless, he was a danger to society and he got what he wanted i guess. What bothers me is the fact that if there was corruption within the LAPD dept. and what made this man get so upset and angry, there needs to be a huge investigation into their corruptness and any issues dealing with racism.

It’s time for these old GOP members to leave the house and senate. They serve no good purpose today for Americans. And I feel it’s time for Harry Reid to leave as well.

It’s called compare and contrast. Nugent has been identified by Repubs as a patriot. It’s helpful to understand just how demented they are. This is why they will filibuster Hagel another war hero. No one is giving any credit to Nugent. People are pointing out that he had a place at the State of the Union and should not have been given that privilege.

I loved this tweet very much.I think it’s brilliant and very effective because most Americans do not know the facts. The fact that Dick Cheney (5 deferments) and Ted Nugent are regarded by people as patriots, while Chuck Hagel and John Kerry, the ones who served and were wounded, are demonized, and are regarded as unpatriotic by right wingers, needed to be dramatically highlighted!

Lawrence O’Donnell’s rewrite tonight was one of his best. At the end, I realized I had been holding my breath in rapt attention as I let out a big sigh. He completely took the hateful NRA to the woodshed, and called on the Anti-Defamation League to denounce the appearance of many Jewish organizations finding themselves on the NRA “enemies list”, since they were moved to complain about an SNL skit about the Hagel nominations that mocked Congress’ obsession with defending the State of Israel even against own patriotic and authentic American heroes like Chuck Hagel. Nobody goes on the attack of the NRA as well as Lawrence O’Donnell – he’s been hitting it out of the park with his rants against the “blood drenched NRA”.

our president was out ahead of the north korean test (click on link for video):

‘ The U.S. flexed its military might, and big explosion off West Kauai sent a message to the world: that America’s defense system has excellent aim – and a long reach.

That explosion was a direct hit on a ballistic missile target, and it comes – just days after North Korea tested its third nuclear device.

The Missile Defense Agency and Navy sailors aboard the U.S.S. Lake Erie conducted this flight test in open waters off Kauai. The team launched a single, medium-range ballistic missile from the Pacific Missile Range Facility at Barking Sands – just after 11 o’clock Tuesday night.

A satellite defense system detected and tracked the missile – then forwarded the data to the guided missile cruiser, Lake Erie, which was on standby. The ship then used a launch-on-remote block missile which intercepted and destroyed the target. Officials believe the test shows the potential for longer-range intercepts and a defense of larger areas.

The U.S. launch came just as North Koreans were celebrating, what they describe as, their third successful nuclear test. Pyongyang said it was an act of self-defense against U.S. hostility and threatened stronger action, if necessary. ‘

    this is really sad-

‘ Paralympian Oscar Pistorius was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of murder after the fatal shooting of a woman in his home.

According to Reuters, Pistorius is was questioned by police in Pretoria about the incident. Domestic media reports say the victim is Pistorius’ girlfriend, though the woman’s name has not yet been released.

Lt. Col. Katlego Mogale told The Associated Press that officers found a 9-mm pistol at the scene.

“We can’t comment on his emotional well-being, but he is traumatized after losing someone close to him,” police said.

Pistorius is expected to appear in court later today.

Police spokesperson Captain Sarah Mcirca also confirmed that the victim was shot in the arm and the head, USA Today reported.

Pistorius, 26, who was born without a fibula in both legs, was the first double amputee to run in the Olympics. Nicknamed the “Blade Runner,” Pistorius was able to compete by wearing carbon fiber prosthetic blades. ‘

A new Congressional Budget Office report out last week has the healthcare world scratching its head over the possibility that Obamacare might—in part—be responsible for what is being described as a significant slowdown in the growth of healthcare costs in America.

According to the report, hundreds of billions of dollars in federal spending for Medicare and Medicaid are being removed from government projections as federal healthcare spending is now expected to be full 15 percent less than what had been initially budgeted for 2012. The surprisingly low spending projections come as the growth in healthcare spending has hit a new low for the fourth consecutive year.

To be sure, a big part of the decline in healthcare spending is the result of the recession’s impact on people’s ability to lay out cash on health related expenditures. Indeed, up until this point, most analysts have agreed that the poor economy was pretty much the sole cause for the improvement we have seen in containing the explosion of healthcare spending.

Now, experts are beginning to recognize that the Affordable Care Act may, in fact, be contributing to the good news—a significant development as bending the cost curve was a primary goal of Obamacare.

Douglas Elmendorf, Director of the CBO, noted that while much of the savings are the result of a loss of wealth due to the recession. But, for the first time, Elmendorf was willing to say that a ‘significant part’ of the savings are the result of structural change in how healthcare is now being delivered.

Not that Kerry needs anything right now. A decorated war hero, he’s served long and hard in the Senate, now in his dream job as SOS, working on behalf of his illustrious President – who HE helped introduce to the world in 2004. John Kerry is a VERY rich man, not just monetarily.
