A pastor was giving the children’s message during church. For this part of the service, he would gather all the children around him and give a brief lesson before dismissing them for children’s church. On this particular Sunday, he was using squirrels for an object lesson on industry and preparation.

He started out by saying, “I’m going to describe something, and I want you to raise your hand when you know what it is.” The children nodded eagerly.

“This thing lives in trees (pause) and eats nuts (pause)…” No hands went up. “And it is gray (pause) and has a long bushy tail (pause)…” The children were looking at each other, but still no hands raised. “And it jumps from branch to branch (pause) and chatters and flips its tail when it’s excited (pause)…”

Finally one little boy tentatively raised his hand. The pastor breathed a sigh of relief and called on him. “Well,” said the boy, “I know the answer must be Jesus … but it sure sounds like a squirrel to me!”

Yep. I remember him fondly as a TV personality from when I was little. [Yes, I’m THAT old.]
Funny you should mention him. I was just describing my cherished set of Art Linkletter Encyclopedia for Boys and Girls to my nephew this weekend.

A couple of interesting little tidbits on his wikipedia page:
“In 1943, Linkletter pleaded guilty to falsely claiming US citizenship (born in Saskatchewan, Canada); he was fined $500 and permitted to apply for citizenship.” Gasp! Illegal immigrant!

“A Republican, he became a political organizer and a spokesman for the United Seniors Association, now known as USA Next, an alternative to the AARP.” Why that socialist!!

How did mankind come to enjoy what we now call music? How did music come to be? Why do we love music, no matter where we hail from, how old we are, etc? Is it necessary like food and oxygen?

‘ Wow, Joe Scarborough Doesn’t Understand Economics at All ‘–detailed analysis from jonathan chait.

‘ Maybe I’m a little too surprised here because I don’t watch much Joe Scarborough. He’s indicative of elite opinion in that he understands budget deficits in moralistic terms and has little grasp of economic or budgeting concepts. Exposing him to contextualized analysis only seems to make him angrier. ‘

“The #gop’s eternal quest for their own Obama. Never gonna happen. Not with their teabagger baggage.”

This is the problem with Republicans! They are absolutely convinced that the only reason Blacks, Hispanics and Asians voted for President Obama was because of race. They are absolutely convinced that if they can find a Black, a Hispanic,or an Asian who, like Alan Keys, Marco Rubio and Dinesh D’Souza, buys into the entire Conservative agenda, then they will be able to attract Black, Hispanic, and Asian voters. They assume that Blacks, Hispanics, and Asians, are totally ignorant of the blatantly racist features of what constitutes the conservative agenda; racist features that are routinely, and openly, espoused by white racists.

That site is a cesspool of Republican nonsense, but reading the comments was actually quite interesting. The right wingers were trying to justify the GOP chasing after anyone of colour that could become “their own Obama”, and they were being beaten back by some fairly cogent arguments. I knew this Carson character was bad news the day I saw him at that prayer breakfast, and the fact that he’s being seduced into even thinking of running for President with the simplistic, half-baked, right-wing ideas he presented at the prayer breakfast is ridiculous. Plus, he disrespected the President, and this proves it.

A blessed Monday night to everyone. I just came on to encourage the PBO twitter warriors and bloggers to not let the Republicans/Teabaggers distract the american people from the critical issues in PBO’s SOTU address tomorrow and the days after. I believe that Rubio, Paul and Nugent were carefully chosen to prevent the American public from digesting the president’s speech; to sidetrack them from what is really relevant. The media will be deliberately busy comparing the three opposing responses instead of highlighting the important tenets provided by the president.

I am therefore encouraging the PBO twitter brigade along with those who blog and are on Facebook to inundate the airwaves, virtual space and twitterverse with excerpts from the president. Do not let the media suppress the impact of President Obama’s delivery. Force them to focus on what matters best for the USA.

May God bless, guide, protect and prosper the president, his family and his ardent supporters.

    pbo upgrading u.s.army pacific region:

‘ The United States is elevating the status of the general who leads soldiers in the Pacific.

U.S. Army Pacific has been led by a three-star general for many years.

The Pentagon said Monday President Barack Obama is nominating Third Army commander Lt. Gen. Vincent Brooks to become the new Army Pacific commander. Obama is also nominating Brooks for promotion to four stars.
Lt. Gen. Francis Wiercinski is the current U.S. Army Pacific commander. He plans to retire after 34 years of service. ‘

When PBO said long ago that he was the first Pacific President, few knew what he really meant. This area has needed attention for quite some time. I really like the things he has done in Australia ( troops to be stationed there) and in strengthening our relationship with Asian nations in the area. China has been served.

I am with you! I think it’s great to let children explore things and satisfy their curiosity. When the time came the mother made Colin come to her and sit down.

      • February 12, 2013 at 7:15 pm

Well, he is adorable, but I still feel children should be under control in public spaces. If it had been my child, I would have walked him a little bit up and down the aisle. You could tell the marines didn’t want him up there, although they were very nice and gentle about it. It’s not a big deal.

You can see the 2 Gangster Disciples gang members arrested in the Pendleton case in Chgo, if you’re interested. It was some sort of gang retaliation shooting, mistaking Hadiya’s group as rival gang members and just blasted away into the crowd. Senseless and idiocy.
