Wife: You just don’t want me to go to Costco with you for the Super Bowl stuff.
Me: Not really. I’d like to get out of there in less than 2 hours.

    Ah, conjugal love.

That is generally my argument as well, along with I would like to get out of there under $200. Unfortunately, my wife never buys the argument and as a result I accomplish neither goal and suffer dirty looks through the whole process.

The WH has called the embassy bombing in Turkey an “act of terror”. Hopefully Willard will hear this. “Please proceed, Governor”.

    • February 1, 2013 at 2:54 pm

The irony is that the right wing ignore all the “acts of terror” committed right here with these gun nuts terrorizing everyone with their outlandish claims to Second Amendment rights to carry their guns all over, have as much ammunition and weaponry as they can handle, and have no accountability, responsibility or consequences for those actions when things go horribly wrong.

I’ll have you know that my school right now is coming up with HIV therapy that could help replace the plethora of cocktail drugs HIV patients are inundated with day in day out.

You should be very grateful that UT Austin exists.

Don’t even start with me right now. Man U against Southampton was ridiculous. Your second half was laughable. Even Ferguson admitted that you guys were trash in the second half and Southampton could very well had crushed Man U. Rooney was off his game and your 2-1 was a squeaker.

                • February 1, 2013 at 3:14 pm

Oh please, we’re still the reigning Champs and we kicked Man U’s ass last year and this year. Plus they got kicked out of the Capital One Cup.

Manchester United was lucky to squeak by with a 2-1 win. Even Ferguson admitted as much. Their second half was ridiculous and Rooney’s playing was hilarious.

                    • February 1, 2013 at 3:32 pm

                      (1) We’re still the reigning Champs

                      – who were knocked out of the Champions League at the group phase. 😳

                      (2) and we kicked Man U’s ass last year and this year.

Competition that matters —-> English Premier Su 28 Oct 2012 Chelsea 2 – 3 Man Utd

Competition that doesn’t —–> Capital One Cup We 31 Oct 2012 Chelsea 5 – 4 Man Utd (in which United played third choice team, against Chelsea’s first choice, there was no Vidic, Ferdinand, Evra, Van Persie, Rooney, Carrick, Cleverly, Scholes, Giggs, Wellbeck, etc )

                      (3) Plus they got kicked out of the Capital One Cup

The most unimportant sporting competition on planet earth – although Swansea quite like it, after knocking out Chelsea.

Whatever….we’re the reigning Champions and we kicked you out last year and this year. You drew with Tottenham and you want to hold up Man U as something to brag about? You also got kicked out of the Capital One Cup and your second half with Southampton was hilarious.

                    Rooney’s playing was tragic.

                    February 1, 2013 at 3:38 pm

You’re bringing up a match where the consensus was that Man U and the referee cheated so that a win was accomplished? Tut…tut…tut…Chips. Cheating is not how the sport is played. We know its how Man U does it but hey, they’re not an honorable team. Man U still got its ass handed to it. I don’t care if you think you played your number one team or your number 10 team. You got whooped. We have two trophies to your ZERO. That’s right. Z-E-R-O.

Man U drew with Tottenham. Hahahaha….Tottenham? Who next? Arsenal?

                    • February 1, 2013 at 3:43 pm

“Cheating is not how the sport is played.”

Agreed, that’s why I don’t like Chelsea much (Terry, Cole, Hazard, Luiz, etc … and Mikel’s false racist allegations against a referee).

                      Yuck.

                  • 61 utaustinliberal
                    February 1, 2013 at 3:49 pm

Oh please….everyone in the sport knows Manchester United cheats and that referees help them cheat too. They also play dirty. One more proof amongst countless others was in the Oct 28, 2012 game when with the help of the referee, Manchester United continued its cheating streak.

Not a Bears fan, so their not being in the SDuper Bowl is fine with me. And really, has Chelsea even had a win in their last three games. When the coach has to come out and say, “well, those were all games we could have won” you have to wodner.

                February 1, 2013 at 3:25 pm

We only drew in the last 2 games and we get more points at away games so yeah..you have your stats wrong. I bet whatever team you support still sucks because they’re not in the Superbowl.

Chelsea’s the reigning champs and we’re still high up on the premier league table. Unlike Manchester United who got kicked out of the Capital One Cup.

                • February 1, 2013 at 3:37 pm

“Unlike Manchester United who got kicked out of the Capital One Cup.” (As did Chelsea)

The final is between Bradford (from the 97th division) and Swansea, which kinda shows how seriously the competition is taken by the big boys.

You still got kicked out. That will never change. Two trophies – Chelsea. ZERO – Manchester United. Z-E-R-O.

And you drew with Tottenham….Hahahahaha…and Rooney almost got his ass kicked by Southampton. The squirrel on his head must not have been fed that day.

We still have 2 trophies to your ZERO. After Rooney scored, he got his ass kicked in the second half and Man U barely squeaked by with the win. The second half was a joke of epic proportions.

Hellooooooo UT. I use a program called Snapz Pro X – it’s not that brilliant, the quality isn’t great, but it does a basic job. I can’t remember now if it was QuickTime or another basic video player that lets you record too, keep meaning to check it out, might be better than Snapz.

Thanks for this clip redbird45. I have been deeply affected by this young lady’s death and have been following it but missed this column.
Glad PBO reached out to the family.

    • February 1, 2013 at 3:24 pm

That’s wonderful, thank you Redbird. Although this drives me crazy:

“A petition is reportedly circulating, urging the president to attend Hadiya’s funeral”

It’s bullshit, he will use his own judgment on whether it’s the right thing to do, but the horror is so many kids like Haidya are being killed, it’s an impossible situation for him – if he goes to one funeral and not another, offense will be taken. Stupid stuff.

      • February 1, 2013 at 3:29 pm

It can also be very disruptive for him to go with the whole place having to go through SS sweeps, etc. The funeral should be about this bright young woman, not the President.

      • 100 carolmaewy
        February 1, 2013 at 3:36 pm

He would also bring all the Secret Service and all that goes with that. Most regular people don’t want that and it makes things harder to handle. It’s one thing to go to a Public funeral of a public servant for the president. Whatever choice is made I’ll respect because I trust Pres. Obama. Hadiya’s mother gave her daughter a beautiful and heartfelt tribute on Rev. Al yesterday. It was heartbreaking.

      • 101 isonprize
        February 1, 2013 at 3:49 pm

I suspect that he may not attend the funeral, but visit with the family the next time that he is in Chicago. I can’t imagine that this one didn’t affect him also, especially since the young lady was not only bright and on the right path, but also close in age to his daughters, and lived in his hometown,

They’re not purging your followers. Twitter has been undergoing renovations so sometimes your followers list isn’t complete. When you see a reduced number, it doesn’t quite mean anything yet. Don’t agree 100% with what Pierce says here, but the nuts and bolts of it is pretty good. Worth a read and when you read, if you see something you don’t agree with, remember, Pierce is not condemning PBO. The overall article is, for Pierce, high praise.

[Final rule out]: “National Physician Payment Transparency Program: Open Payments,” this is one of many steps in the Affordable Care Act designed to create greater transparency in the health care market.

“You should know when your doctor has a financial relationship with the companies that manufacture or supply the medicines or medical devices you may need,” said Peter Budetti, M.D. CMS deputy administrator for Program Integrity. “Disclosure of these relationships allows patients to have more informed discussions with their doctors.”

This rule finalizes the provisions that require manufacturers of drugs, devices, biologicals, and medical supplies covered by Medicare, Medicaid, or the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) to report payments or other transfers of value they make to physicians and teaching hospitals to CMS. CMS will post that data to a public website. The final rule also requires manufacturers and group purchasing organizations (GPOs) to disclose to CMS physician ownership or investment interests.

This increased transparency is intended to help reduce the potential for conflicts of interest that physicians or teaching hospitals could face as a result of their relationships with manufacturers.
