2:30 ET On her last day as Secretary of State, Hillary Rodham Clinton thanks her colleagues at the State Department
Love nerds!
🙂
Looking forward to this ceremony.
Yeah.
Did you have nice birthday yesterday?
Africa?! Did I miss your birthday?!
Yes:) We were very busy playing loud music and eating cabbage:)
Those are really cool 😎 medals. Am I on a roll? 🙄
I LOVE MY NERDY PRESIDENT!!
Me too.
Wife: You just don’t want me to go to Costco with you for the Super Bowl stuff.
Me: Not really. I’d like to get out of there in less than 2 hours.
Ah, conjugal love.
That is generally my argument as well, along with I would like to get out of there under $200. Unfortunately, my wife never buys the argument and as a result I accomplish neither goal and suffer dirty looks through the whole process.
lol….I have to go with my husband just to make sure that he doesn’t break the bank.
I don’t like what you men are incinerating about us….
“incinerating about us.” Hahahahaha….they’re burning you to ashes?
😆 😆 😆 It’s gettin’ hot in hurr!!!! (((HF))) (((UTAL))) hahaha!
It looks like the CBS link is carrying Sec Clinton’s farewell remarks.
Nothing on CNN yet either Meta, this might be the only one that carries it:
http://www.whitehouse.gov/live
Yeah, thanks, Chips. I’m excited for the nerd show.
Okay, CNN now has both feeds up.
Nerds ruling the world from the white house onwards. Freaking awesome.
The WH has called the embassy bombing in Turkey an “act of terror”. Hopefully Willard will hear this. “Please proceed, Governor”.
The irony is that the right wing ignore all the “acts of terror” committed right here with these gun nuts terrorizing everyone with their outlandish claims to Second Amendment rights to carry their guns all over, have as much ammunition and weaponry as they can handle, and have no accountability, responsibility or consequences for those actions when things go horribly wrong.
What you miss by not living in a big city.
LOVE THAT! I miss NYC greatly, but I don’t miss those damn subways — my rides were never this enjoyable or entertaining. 😆
I know. Chicago is a lot like NYC.
That was excellent! Makes the commute a whole lot shorter! New York, New York, a helluva town (or whatever the song says!).
CNN streaming has started:
http://edition.cnn.com/video/flashLive/live.html?stream=4
Oi Amk, when you wake up, what were you saying about Macs and their lovely users?
PBO is in his element at these events.
It makes me giddy to see a white house so proudly embrace science, technology, and innovation.
They’re scary people, though, UT, enormous foreheads to facilitate their brains. Frightening.
Hahahahahahahahaha….you are wrong for this. 😆
🙂
Yup. I wonder whether this event was also held with the last administration (2000-2008)?
By this time, mercifully, I’ve nearly forgotten there even was a last administration! I think evolution should be taught in our schools like this: Meaningful Twenty-first Century Life Began With Obama, c. 2009. Ha!
I love this picture.. Thank you Hillary..
I’m annoyed that these two events are overlapping.
Hey Hopefruit, I’m sure C-Span will have the Hillary video up soon, so focus on the nerds!
Of COURSE I chose the nerds… 🙂 🙂
The first scientist honored is from the University of Texas at Austin. Woooooooooooooooooooohooooooooooo!!!!!!! Gooooooo Longhorns! Hook ‘Em!!!!!
They have a science department?
I’ll have you know that my school right now is coming up with HIV therapy that could help replace the plethora of cocktail drugs HIV patients are inundated with day in day out.
You should be very grateful that UT Austin exists.
UT Austin rocks and everyone in the world knows it. Was your school honored twice today? I don’t think so. HA!
BTW, how has Chelsea been doing lately?
We’ve been doing fantastic thank you very much. We have another game coming up and we’re going to kick ass. How are your Chicago Bears doing? Oh…they’re not in the Superbowl? HA!
“We’ve been doing fantastic thank you very much.”
2-0 up v Reading with three minutes to go.
Result: 2-2.
*Cough*
Don’t even start with me right now. Man U against Southampton was ridiculous. Your second half was laughable. Even Ferguson admitted that you guys were trash in the second half and Southampton could very well had crushed Man U. Rooney was off his game and your 2-1 was a squeaker.
Result? Win.
1 Man Utd 24 11 0 1 32 15 8 2 2 27 16 28 59
2 Man City 24 9 2 1 27 9 6 5 1 18 10 26 52
3 Chelsea 24 6 4 2 26 11 7 3 2 23 13 25 46 <——– 🙄
/Filing nails
Amazing how blowing a 2 goal lead in 3 minutes somehow is a better result than winning 2-1.
Japa, I would never ever ever wish something as sad as divorce on you, but if it ever happens: will you marry me? 🙂
Chips, don’t plan on any divorce soon, but if the Costco adventures continue, who knows. Then, sure, why not?
You silver-tongued devil. Okay, keep me updated on the Costco business, if it turns uglier then I can see myself becoming Mrs Chipsticks Japa very, very soon.
Oh please, we’re still the reigning Champs and we kicked Man U’s ass last year and this year. Plus they got kicked out of the Capital One Cup.
Manchester United was lucky to squeak by with a 2-1 win. Even Ferguson admitted as much. Their second half was ridiculous and Rooney’s playing was hilarious.
(1) We’re still the reigning Champs
– who were knocked out of the Champions League at the group phase. 😳
(2) and we kicked Man U’s ass last year and this year.
Competition that matters —-> English Premier Su 28 Oct 2012 Chelsea 2 – 3 Man Utd
Competition that doesn’t —–> Capital One Cup We 31 Oct 2012 Chelsea 5 – 4 Man Utd (in which United played third choice team, against Chelsea’s first choice, there was no Vidic, Ferdinand, Evra, Van Persie, Rooney, Carrick, Cleverly, Scholes, Giggs, Wellbeck, etc )
(3) Plus they got kicked out of the Capital One Cup
The most unimportant sporting competition on planet earth – although Swansea quite like it, after knocking out Chelsea.
/Lighting cigar
Japa, you are a brave man. Just saying, before scurrying back out of the way! Maybe, I’ll give you a hug for courage while I still can. {Japa}
VC, easy to be brave when its only typing on a keyboard. Now, if I was anywhere near Austin, I would be running for cover. but thanks for the hug.
Whatever….we’re the reigning Champions and we kicked you out last year and this year. You drew with Tottenham and you want to hold up Man U as something to brag about? You also got kicked out of the Capital One Cup and your second half with Southampton was hilarious.
Rooney’s playing was tragic.
You’re bringing up a match where the consensus was that Man U and the referee cheated so that a win was accomplished? Tut…tut…tut…Chips. Cheating is not how the sport is played. We know its how Man U does it but hey, they’re not an honorable team. Man U still got its ass handed to it. I don’t care if you think you played your number one team or your number 10 team. You got whooped. We have two trophies to your ZERO. That’s right. Z-E-R-O.
Man U drew with Tottenham. Hahahaha….Tottenham? Who next? Arsenal?
“Cheating is not how the sport is played.”
Agreed, that’s why I don’t like Chelsea much (Terry, Cole, Hazard, Luiz, etc … and Mikel’s false racist allegations against a referee).
Yuck.
Oh please….everyone in the sport knows Manchester United cheats and that referees help them cheat too. They also play dirty. One more proof amongst countless others was in the Oct 28, 2012 game when with the help of the referee, Manchester United continued its cheating streak.
Not a Bears fan, so their not being in the SDuper Bowl is fine with me. And really, has Chelsea even had a win in their last three games. When the coach has to come out and say, “well, those were all games we could have won” you have to wodner.
We only drew in the last 2 games and we get more points at away games so yeah..you have your stats wrong. I bet whatever team you support still sucks because they’re not in the Superbowl.
Chelsea’s the reigning champs and we’re still high up on the premier league table. Unlike Manchester United who got kicked out of the Capital One Cup.
“Unlike Manchester United who got kicked out of the Capital One Cup.” (As did Chelsea)
The final is between Bradford (from the 97th division) and Swansea, which kinda shows how seriously the competition is taken by the big boys.
/Pouring champagne
You still got kicked out. That will never change. Two trophies – Chelsea. ZERO – Manchester United. Z-E-R-O.
And you drew with Tottenham….Hahahahaha…and Rooney almost got his ass kicked by Southampton. The squirrel on his head must not have been fed that day.
“Two trophies – Chelsea. ZERO”
From …… last season.
“Rooney almost got his ass kicked by Southampton.”
He scored …… twice.
We still have 2 trophies to your ZERO. After Rooney scored, he got his ass kicked in the second half and Man U barely squeaked by with the win. The second half was a joke of epic proportions.
/Runs away from imminent volcanic eruption
Obviously, you didn’t run quick enough or far enough.
There’s another University of Texas at Austin recipient. Holy freaking awesomeness!!!!!! 2 for 2!
Gooooooo Longhorns! We freaking rock and we kick ass!
Congrats!
Not only a science department but 2 employees?
Japa, what’s gotten into you….and Bobfr…these days? You guys have shed your cloaks and are stepping boldly out where no TOD man (well, except for he from the other side of the world who shall not be named right now) has walked before. Is it something in the TODville water? Has there been a TODville-men’s-get-in-the-thick-of-things-training that I missed? I’m mighty curious, me, about this new spirit of….daring.. that I’m seeing.
Oh, you wimmin. Some call it …daring…some call it foolishness…some call it senility…some call it lack of a sense for self-preservation. With me it is probably a combination of all of them,
Science Nerd Partay at the White House!!
Peeps, don’t forget the NAACP Image Awards tonight on NBC.
Loved and enjoyed this NERD show. Gawd, the Creationists heads must be exploding out there on the right.
On the shallow end of the nerd spectrum…I love PBO’s tie 🙂
UT Austin is freaking amazing. 2 top-notch scientists honored today, we’re also coming up with HIV therapy that could greatly help HIV patients, we’re building a Med. school, we’re creating a bacteria that can help improve vaccinations.
Goooooooooooo Longhorns! UT Austin ROCKS and Japa21’s school SUCKS. (they weren’t even honored today because they’re L-O-S-E-R-S)
Hook ‘Em!!!!
I graduated so long ago I can’t even remember what school I went to. So they may have been honored and I wouldn’t know it.
If you were proud of your school, you’d have the name tattooed in your memory forever.
UT Austin looks at your school, stomps it into the ground, and laughs as it’s left behind.
😆 I know the feeling Japa!!
Boy, UT is really touchy, isn’t she?
Well……….
I’m with you Japan! 😉
Sorry, Japa. It was spellcheck I see. 🙄
Happens a lot. No problem.
😉
‘I graduated so long ago I can’t even remember what school I went to.’
😆 😆
Hey Chiparoo what recording device do you use to record all these clips as they’re taking place live?
Hellooooooo UT. I use a program called Snapz Pro X – it’s not that brilliant, the quality isn’t great, but it does a basic job. I can’t remember now if it was QuickTime or another basic video player that lets you record too, keep meaning to check it out, might be better than Snapz.
Potus calls Haidya Pendelton family. http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2013/02/01/president-obama-calls-family-of-hadiyah-pendleton/
Thanks for this clip redbird45. I have been deeply affected by this young lady’s death and have been following it but missed this column.
Glad PBO reached out to the family.
yes they just posted on twitter.
That’s wonderful, thank you Redbird. Although this drives me crazy:
“A petition is reportedly circulating, urging the president to attend Hadiya’s funeral”
It’s bullshit, he will use his own judgment on whether it’s the right thing to do, but the horror is so many kids like Haidya are being killed, it’s an impossible situation for him – if he goes to one funeral and not another, offense will be taken. Stupid stuff.
It can also be very disruptive for him to go with the whole place having to go through SS sweeps, etc. The funeral should be about this bright young woman, not the President.
yes chipstick the request should come from the family and not a petition.
Absolutely Meta, people who start these kind of petitions never stop and think.
He would also bring all the Secret Service and all that goes with that. Most regular people don’t want that and it makes things harder to handle. It’s one thing to go to a Public funeral of a public servant for the president. Whatever choice is made I’ll respect because I trust Pres. Obama. Hadiya’s mother gave her daughter a beautiful and heartfelt tribute on Rev. Al yesterday. It was heartbreaking.
I suspect that he may not attend the funeral, but visit with the family the next time that he is in Chicago. I can’t imagine that this one didn’t affect him also, especially since the young lady was not only bright and on the right path, but also close in age to his daughters, and lived in his hometown,
redbird, I’m glad to hear that. When I think of that young girl shot down like that, it makes no sense at all. If there is anyone who know who did this they ought to turn them in.
Holy BLEEP! BLEEP! BEEP! The DOW is closing in on all time high of 14,164.53.
But Ohio could still turn this thing around…
Whoop, whoop!
Scott Brown not running for Senate – http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-34222_162-57567172-10391739/scott-brown-not-running-for-senate/
I thought Bo Obama was the mostest adorablest thing today, but I don’t know—-this Barack Obama fella, with his “all those syllables” and “wild crowd” comments, is coming on strong.
😆 Jeez Dotster, I hope Mr Dotster doesn’t read your comment!
He’s used to it by now. He sees my beaming face every time Obama is on the teevee. He says, “You love him.” And I say, “Yep.” And then I add, “as a president.” 🙂 That seems to help somewhat. It’s a part of our relationship now. I let him play as much golf as he wants, and he lets me love Obama. 🙂
Chips, just so you know, relative to the discussion up thread, if Mrs. Japa reads this, the time might come sooner rather than later.
Ah, so I should start wedding dress shopping right now?? 😎
Just saying, watch for future updates.
Guys, you have got to check this out. This economy is lucky that Pres. Obama put in place sound policies.
But, but, but Ohio could still turn this thing around…
sidenote: president obama did not go to ut-austin. 😉
He’s visited UT Austin twice. TWICE. Been on West Mall, the Gym, the stadium, did the Hook ‘Em sign. Honored two UT Austin scientists who are changing the landscape of science and technology. I didn’t see him visiting your school or honoring them with any awards. HA!
UT, you are on a roll today. And just so you know, I only kid people I really, really, really like.
Hahahahaha….I know Japa. It’s all good. 🙂
Hey UT, not only did PBO visit my grade school, he spoke and had it nationally televised to other schools! 😎
So there, you ain’t the only one with ‘PBO school cred’ 😀 😀
You too Isonprize? You too? I didn’t see Pres. Obama honoring your school at the white house for technological innovations as he did last year. I didn’t see your school getting national and international publicity for groundbreaking work. HA! 😀
I like that….is show that 1, 679,720 jobs were lost in the months prior to the Sept 2008 crash…..
I don’t recall anyone melting down over that ever….one month had 450 k
Ha!
Those two are a RIOT. I can see David Plouffe is loving twitter.
Nice play on words by Plouffe and Axe.
Axe is a scream!!! LOLOL And I see that David Plouffe got jokes, too!
They are quite creative, and having a lot of fun with it! The Two Davids Rock!
Every time I tweet something that Twitter doesn’t like, they sneakily purge one or two of my followers. Fine. Have it your way. I don’t care.
They’re not purging your followers. Twitter has been undergoing renovations so sometimes your followers list isn’t complete. When you see a reduced number, it doesn’t quite mean anything yet. Monitor it for a few days. It’s happened to me and after an hour or a day the number goes back up/to its original.
Or more likely, people are unfollowing me because I have nothing interesting to add to the conversation. Fine. Have it your way. I don’t care.
Is PBO getting YOUNGER? 😯 Sure looks like it to me..it’s quite the Curious Case…I’m gonna start calling him Barack Button.
He’s more relaxed, probably getting more restful sleep, more time spent tucking FLOTUS in at night. The DOW is up, things are improving, the war is winding down, his approvals are up, he doesn’t have to run for re-election again.
All of that is making him look and feel younger. 🙂
Tucking, Tucking , hopefruit. Tucking with a “T” 😯 😎
Well of course izonprize, indeed…TUCKING…that’s a big part of the equation.
such a mind.
He has been looking especially fine lately! 😀
Naughty debz!
Back in a bit, gotta go eat!
You come at me about Chelsea and UT Austin, I will CRUSH you Hulk style. I’m looking at you Chipsticks, Japa21, and 4MoreFor44. 😀
Obama’s fault:)
Will the MSNBC pundiots (Tweety, Fineman, et al) ignore the good economic news in favor of their favorite Hillary2016 love-in?
Is it safe to come in now? Footballers are fierce!
Yeah, UT is.
Come in wearing a hard hat CEB. 😀
Chipsticks and Japa think they can abuse the greatest team ever—-> Chelsea<—– and get away with it. HA! NEVER!
No! Hide CEB! It’s only just begun! 😆
Hopefully you left me some food as I haven’t eaten yet? I can feel the rumblings starting in my stomach.
Not a scrap left VC, sorry!
There’s too much Big Hurrah going on due to the departure of Hillary Clinton, in Washington, at the State Department and elsewhere, from my perspective. Leave gracefully, I say, and leave some air in the room for the next guy. Party of One (me) thinkin’ that, maybe, sorry, but I just had to get my thoughts “out there”!
Don’t agree 100% with what Pierce says here, but the nuts and bolts of it is pretty good. Worth a read and when you read, if you see something you don’t agree with, remember, Pierce is not condemning PBO. The overall article is, for Pierce, high praise.
http://www.esquire.com/blogs/politics/Why_We_Like_The_President_Again
It is a superb assessment of reality. Thank you japa.
#TrustBarack We know why ….

[Final rule out]: “National Physician Payment Transparency Program: Open Payments,” this is one of many steps in the Affordable Care Act designed to create greater transparency in the health care market.
“You should know when your doctor has a financial relationship with the companies that manufacture or supply the medicines or medical devices you may need,” said Peter Budetti, M.D. CMS deputy administrator for Program Integrity. “Disclosure of these relationships allows patients to have more informed discussions with their doctors.”
This rule finalizes the provisions that require manufacturers of drugs, devices, biologicals, and medical supplies covered by Medicare, Medicaid, or the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) to report payments or other transfers of value they make to physicians and teaching hospitals to CMS. CMS will post that data to a public website. The final rule also requires manufacturers and group purchasing organizations (GPOs) to disclose to CMS physician ownership or investment interests.
This increased transparency is intended to help reduce the potential for conflicts of interest that physicians or teaching hospitals could face as a result of their relationships with manufacturers.
