Techy question please. What’s the best browser to use and why? Been having trouble commenting on a site I used to comment on all the time and we can’t figure out why. The man that runs the blog suggests that I change my browser….since I don’t want to mess up anything ELSE I might do, like begin to have problems HERE for instance, how do I do this? Can I just open a new browser if I want to comment there and then return to my normal browser for everything else I do??
Help!! Help!! Help!! Thanks
Yes, a while ago Facebook killed Firefox each time I tried to go to FB. So, I opened Safari, logged onto FB and kept it open while I did everything else using Firefox – most especially, visiting TOD!
I did it!! I downloaded Firefox and what do you know…I can now make comments on the blog that I haven’t been able to comment on in ages:) Thanks everyone!!
I looked at Foxfire….why do you like that one? amk needs to wake up and get his ass in gear here 🙂 He had a good explanation about this whole question some time ago….what time is it in India right now? Can we call him? 🙂
I don’t know why I like Firefox…or even remember why I downloaded it years ago instead of using Safari. And I do remember AMK having a good explanation. Calling AMK…..
I’d probably wake him up and he’d get all kinds of grumpy with me…better to just spring it on him whenever he decides to join the rest of us…WAKEY,WAKEY, amk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
grog…grog,,, can’t a guy get his 8 hours of beauty sleep peacefully around here ? wimmin/smh
Now, where is that damn coffee? …..
Coming to your question, you can have different browsers -firefox/chrome/ie(uugh)/safari – open at the same time. Each one will have its own window and you need to swing between windows to see them. (unless you have a giantass screen of 21 inch or something, in which case, you can have two readable windows side by side). The downside is each browser is a resource hogger (i.e. your RAM) and will slow down your browsing speed. (Then you would be like Chips having gazillion pages open at the same time and then blaming amk/firefox for her silly overpriced apple going to sleep.)
Now coming to the actual browsers, I rate firefox the best ‘cos
1. It’s the best in terms of privacy. It cleans up after itself once you close the browser. (I rate google chrome the worst offender on this issue. It leaves behind plenty of garbage – of course under the guise of speeding up your browsing – and you have to manually clean it)
2. The tool bars customization is the best in firefox. i.e. you can move any of your cut/copy/paste/reload/stop/bookmarks toolbars etc. to wherever you want on the page edges.
3. It has a fantastic collection of add-ons for ad-blocking/track blockers. I have zero ads in my browsing.
4.One of the add-ons I have is called NoSquint, which lets you customize how you view each site (size/color/background etc.). I have set all my sites to very very very dull grey background with white letters. Thus my eyes are saved from various color/font assaults.
Having said that, the problem could be the site you trying to comment on has issues that has got nothing to do with the browsers.
And I love Firefox because of the company that makes it, Mozilla. Great business ethic, working to keep the internet “free”. Mozilla also makes Thunderbird, a fantastic email client. They also make Fetch, and being the total machead that I am and as a designer always uploading huge files to printers, I needed a good ftp client and Fetch is it! Firefox, I believe was the first to come up with tabs for a browser. The add-ons for Firefox are wonderful as well. (couldn’t help but jump in here!)
I’ve had fantastic results from Mozilla Firefox. At least it works real good with my Windows. I’m also using Avast virus protection And Advanced Registry Optimizer.
TY yardarm 🙂 Can I just load the thing onto my PC and then use that one when I want to comment at that other site, and still use Chrome for everything else?
You can have as many browsers as you’d like on your computer. Open two at a time if you want. Firefox seems to be the one that people on both platforms are able to use without a lot of difficulties.
Me too. I liked that Barney bit one of the reporters..he.he.he….Barney was a real rascal, lots of spirit. May he cross over the rainbow bridge and play with all the kitties and doggies forever.
All I have to see is a photo of the President as he stands in a doorway waiting to enter an event, and I just have to stop and think how much I love him as a human being. And how happy the folks on the other side of the door will be to see and hear him. We are so lucky. He’s OUR President. For FOUR MORE YEARS. Thank you, God in the heavens above.
It gets more pathetic every year COS. The real reason they have to invent ‘gates’ is because there are no real ones – truly, is ‘skeet-gate’ the best they can do? 🙄
The MSM is obsessed with President Obama. His name in their print & televised reports, radio broadcasts, tweets, blogs, etc, brings clicks, views, reactions, and hence ratings. They are also jealous of him yet fascinated with him at the same time. That makes them obsessed…they can’t shake it.
Yes, that WaPo twerp Glenn Kessler is doing an in-depth investigation into whether or not PBO actually does shoot skeet at Camp David, as if anybody gives a crap. Pure MSM idiocy.
Couldn’t make myself care, AB. But this is about catching him in a lie, which they haven’t figured out is not his style. People who lie for a living find it hard to believe that anyone could actually tell the truth.
I could care less if he shoots skeet at Camp David, and it actually makes me feel better that he’s got some comfort around guns, given that he (and his family) are surrounded by plenty of them (thankfully) every waking moment – and even the non-waking moments.
This Sunday’s Super Bowl will be punctuated by dozens of ads featuring everything from adorable puppies to kids in Star Wars outfits. But one commercial you won’t see is a controversial ad by the carbonated beverage company SodaStream that takes on soda giants Coca Cola and Pepsi.
That’s because the ad has been pulled after pressure from the mammoth corporations led Super Bowl host CBS to take it down from its programming…..
One of the medal recipients was from my local area…California Institute of Technology (the MIT of the West). Sanford University and other California Universities were represented.
For you West Wing buffs, or political drama seekers, “House of Cards” 13 episodes starring Kevin Spacey as a House Majority Whip (was advised by Stenny Hoyer/Kevin McCarthy) was promised SOS by new president, plots his revenge. Netflix original series premiere today.
Here is a link to a free one month Netflix trial http://moneyning.com/coupons/netflix-coupon-free-trial/ use it then cancel or keep if you like. I only subscribe to the online streaming. Dont do DVD/mail. Rather go to RedBox for a $1 for those.
Lovelyplains – thank you so much for the link. I’ve just returned from signing up and queuing up way too many shows… I can see I’m going to be a couch potato for the next month… Oh well – I could use a break!
Awesome, my pleasure. I’m just glad I did not give you a bunk link and get your hopes up! If you watch House of Cards let me know what you think, I am gonna Marathon the 1rst season tomorrow.
The original book “House of cards” by Michael Dobbs was made into a mini series by the BBC in the 1990s – Francis Urquhart (initials FU) was the conservative party whip. The book is good, the series had me fixed to the TV. If this is anywhere near as good – don’t miss it.
AHH, darn. We just recently changed to ATT-Uverse its fiberoptics, never goes shaky(underground) and combines Cable/Phone/Internet services into a nice package deal. Look into it, I am really pleased with the service.

Commentary: We’ve got all kinds of problems, but debt ain’t one
By Rex Nutting
——————————————–
WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) – With even top Republicans such as Eric Cantor beginning to question the political wisdom of waging perpetual warfare over the deficit, it’s possible that Washington may slowly turn its attention to other, more pressing matters.
What could be more urgent than deficit reduction? you may ask.
My answer: Almost everything.
If deficit reduction was ever urgent, it no longer is. We’ve already accomplished most of the deficit-reduction required in this decade, nearly enough to stabilize our debt, but at a great cost to current economic growth. We’ve sacrificed with high unemployment, tepid growth and underinvestment in public goods.
Not to mention our inability to get anything else done while we bicker about deficits.
This puppy was so cute, but they should have played it to the point of conquering the challenge! He was a persistent little thing — I kept squealing when his little paws almost went to the end of the treadmill. So cute!
The most determined little thing I’ve ever seen! I almost wept when he climbed on from the back, and then when he sat and studied the dog on the treadmill to try and figure it out. Just hilarious.
One of the pop ups said that it was a training facility. I loved the other dog that kept checking on him, trying to figure out if he should push him up from the front of the treadmill, or dissuade him.
Nobel Laureate and brilliant man. He’s done a lot in the energy department – if only the media had reported it. They tweeted a ton of stuff over the years about what they were doing and accomplishing.
Dont worry his not so secret replacement Ash Carter is just as brilliant he is #2 ad DOD. A Rhodes Scholar and instructor at MIT and has been in charge of the nuclear prolif/START treaty for PBO. Also transitioning Defense to green fuels, Llke the Bio-Fuel powered fighter jet they unveiled.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released a final rule Friday that will expose financial relationships between doctors and industry in compliance with President Obama’s healthcare law.
Walmart has a Black History Month commercial up. I hate it when these companies are so transparent in their eagerness to leech onto what they think will get them more business or will have folks not notice they really don’t care about any of the people they “serve” in their communities – just their own bottom line. Maybe they should pay a full-time wage and allow unions in (and quit selling assault weapons off the rack), there’s that.
At times I try to stay away from talking heads on my teevee. But, this evening, I got caught up in a little of it, not so much the yelling back & forth by Tweety, et. al, but a smidgen of a thought came to me as I listened: they’re reading TOD! For example, Tweety mentioned something to the effect (paraphrasing) of “someone beating up the wife” re: the Hagel hearing. I swore someone here said the exact same thing yesterday. Then that Arkansas bigot got some sunlight. This, though, was mentioned via several sites today, but we can claim advancing it to the sunlight! 🙂 Anyhoo, TOD is able to influence the narrative out there. Let’s keep on putting sunlight where MSM doesn’t want it to shine! Bless all our fab Twitter Warriors and for the most amazing commenters ever — who’re here @ TOD! Woo-hoo, Chips! 🙂
LOL! More likely VC had a “talk” w/ Tweety (wink-wink) and made sure he’s digging around for his tingle-in the-leg-thingy! Or else! Be afraid, Tweety, be very afraid! 🙂 Go VC!
On a more lovely note: thank you, Chips, for all your hard work, especially in keeping the nasty trolls out, and making this such a spirited, wonderful place to come and exchange ideas, learn, laugh, and just plain listen to some great music! Damn, the way the music here is going, you might need to set up a “Jukebox” on that side panel one day! Late night party animals meet @ the Jukebox! 🙂
Uh-huh!! You have a couple of clones in the basement. Nah. Aaaah, must be some kind of digit-liquid relief your super-delete digit! What’s your super-secret elixir! I-Me-Myself wants some! And don’t say Guiness — that’s breakfast of champions! 🙂
It looks so pretty in the tall glass, but it’s like drinking food! I better stop while I’m still ahead — before I won’t be permitted to visit my family/friends in those Guiness Worlds. 🙂
No thanks, Xtine. I don’t want to be anywhere near that leg tingling, can’t-make-up-his-mind, bad-mannered spitter! I’ll volunteer to be PBO’s or VPJoe’s, or even Hagel’s mindbender. The latter might give me a chance to say a word to Johnnie McC.
VC, it seems my ‘shift’ has steadily become an endless 24/7 … though I have no one to blame but myself … just wish I could peek in here and Twitter more frequently but, alas, we’re building the infrastructure to enable equitable access for everyone and that takes a bunch of time 🙂
I hear you, Sir. Good luck as you try to get things working for everyone! Your schedule plus the fact I’ve been tardy or taking excessive breaks for some of my shifts hopefully won’t go on forever. 😉 😉
Meet the Republicans, Face the Republicans, This Week with Republicans, you name it! Everywhere you turn on Sunday shows it’s all about Republicans bashing President Obama. The way media people swoon about McCain you would think he is the one who won the 2008 presidential election.
I can see his sorry ass being wheeled in his wheelchair, as the pundits breathlessly await what this ugly, lying POS has to say….seriously, Cindy…cart his ass outta here! ENOUGH!
I hope some smart person on the hill makes sure a copy of this ends up where McCain can see it. This sad, pathetic, hate-filled man needs to go to one of his homes that’s closest to the desert and sit outside and howl at the moon. He would do more good than he’s doing now.
amk…..thank you for your precise and detailed answer to my question:) I knew that you’d love waking up to us talking smack about you BEFORE coffee…I seriously was thinking of calling you, but thought better of it….grumpy men without their coffee is NOT a good thing. Thank you for your detailed and throughly anal engineer answer to my question. It was perfect:) And exactly what I did:) Rest of the family helped….your answer was just the cherry on top!
I thought you said that’s what you did! My bad? Whatever…:) I don’t care what you do, thanks for helping me out…..didn’t know about the deleting when you left FF…maybe I’ll use that exclusively:)
Don’t think I have ever seen Secretary of State Clinton smile as brilliantly as in that photo – ever. Good for her. She knows she’s earned a very fine legacy for herself and I am so happy for her.
I’VE heard they are damn mean nasty vicious things!! But they ARE cute and might be mean ONLY because they haven’t experienced the joy of YOU, Chips!!!
Trust me. You DON’T want a raccoon! Little bugger made a house in my parents chimney, more than once, and the little darlings fell down INTO THE HOUSE! And while they were at it, they ripped up the roof for good measure….No. You don’t want a raccoon!
Goodness – I was holding my breath the whole way through that video! It’s so hard to believe the affection that the lion had towards his friends. I loved that he was able to adjust to living in the wild, but that his heart remained unchanged for his friends. Wow – simply awesome. If you’ve ever heard a lion roar in the African jungle, you know how truly incredible this video really is. Brilliant.
Kerry Washington just gave a hands down brilliant speech at the NAACP Image Awards. She received the President’s Award for her acting and activism and whooo….does she deserve it!
She campaigned for Pres. Obama in 08 and 2012 all over the country, she spoke at DNC 2012, she’s on Pres. Obama’s committee for the arts and has spoken to congress for continued funding for the arts and been on Nerdland and other political shows advocating for education, arts funding, empowerment of women, and she’s also campaigned for measures that help prevent violence against women. Plus her acting is phenomenal.
It is definitely a must watch.
Plus, Scandal won for Best Drama and Kerry Washington won for her role on Scandal.
little bit of trivia: kerry washington has never been a student at ut-austin %-
she did however GRADUATE from the university chuck todd dropped out of, george Washington, graduating in 1998 Phi Beta Kappa with a double major in Anthropology & Sociology.
(Reuters) – Anonymous hackers attacked Twitter this week and may have gained access to passwords and other information for as many as 250,000 user accounts, the microblog revealed late on Friday.
Yikes – where are you? Although, I did have my air conditioning on for a bit this afternoon in the valley of Los Angeles, but I’ve now got my fireplace on…
Found that Neville Brothers video that carol and Dakota were talking about in the Rosa Parks thread.
Nice one. Never heard this til now. Thanks ladies!
Neville Brothers ~ Sister Rosa: http://t.co/I1iJdAlt TY Miss Rosa. You are the Spark! Raising a glass for your 100th birthday!
Yeh, that’s cuz he thinks he can slide into the Gov’s chair in 2014.
Alright MA people, listen up: You were smart to dump him out of that Senate seat in favor of the brilliant Elizabeth Warren. Didn’t that feel good? Isn’t it great to have a competent Governor now? Well keep that going? Let the teabagger centerfold stay home with his truck in 2014 too. Do it for your State. Do it for the country!
Deval Patrick is not running for re-election in 2014. It’s a shame, but that’s his decision. I do not believe that Scott Brown will “slide into the Gov’s chair”. There are a lot of qualified Democrats to run for (1) Markey’s seat and (2) Governor. Massachusetts is a deep blue State. Scott Brown took advantage of the general feeling of anxiety in the country and, more importantly, of a poorly run Democratic campaign. That is not likely to happen again. In fact, Massachusetts Democrats already turned things around in November of 2010 – after the Scott Brown debacle – and returned a 100% Democratic delegation to the U.S.House of Representatives and re-elected an embattled Democratic Governor. I will forever take satisfaction that I was part of the 2010 campaign to re-elect Governor Deval Patrick. And then, in 2012 we elected Elizabeth Warren who defeated Scott Brown by 8 points. That election was great because it relied on the efforts of grassroots activists. I have no doubt that Scott Brown has made his decision based on the renewed vitality of the Democratic Party. It’s now up to us to keep growing.
Yes, I had a hard time with them, too, because I thought he was unworthy of her (characters). I’m starting to invest in them as an on-screen couple, though. It’s just seems complicated. I still have to watch this week’s episode, though. But, they do have chemistry in real life – that’s for sure.
These are the R’s: The seven Republicans who have joined 53 Democrats in support of the legislation are Sens. Kelly Ayotte (NH), Susan Collins (ME), Mike Crapo (ID), Dean Heller (NV), Mark Kirk (IL), Jerry Moran (KS) and Lisa Murkowski (AK).
THE REST OF THE REPUBLICANS WHO DID NOT VOTE FOR IT NEED TO BE VOTED O-U-T !!!!
It was from TPM according to my FB friend. Hope I’m not posting bad info.
This is what Sen. Leahy tweeted: JUST TOPPED ‘magic number’ of 60 bipartisan cosponsors of my #VAWA legisl.; We’re moving briskly toward Senate vote on the Leahy-Crapo Bill
I retweeted it, but I don’t know how to post it here. Maybe someone could do that? 😉
Thank you so much UT for sharing this. Kerry Washington’s acceptance speech was incredible! It brought me to tears! She is not only a beautiful and talented actress but she is also a caring person who is deeply dedicated to serving the cause of advancing education and human respect. It just worms my heart to see such talented young people who understand the importance of community, sharing, and laying a foundation for future generations.
Ok, back from Super Bowl party shopping. Contrary to my better instincts, the missus accompanied me. But, contrary to my expectations, we were out of there in quick fashion. Now we just have to decide what to have our guests bring.
Dudette–These people live in their own hell because they’re walking shells of human beings–heartless, brainless, soulless. I don’t even want to imagine what living with that much hate feels like. These are people who pull wings off butterflies, take delight in injuring cats and dogs and laugh at those with disabilities. They are the dregs of humanity–cruel, ugly, sadistic creatures.
Why is anyone stupid enough to listen to gun control testimony from someone with a traumatic brain injury? I will tell you why, John Martin, because even with a traumatic brain injury Gabby is still ten times smarter than a S.O.B like you. These are sick people hateful bastards, and my them and their guns rot in Hell.
It goes right over their silly, empty heads that the fact that she has a traumatic brain injury from a GUN SHOT is the reason why she’s one of the best advocates to give testimony on the matter.
These are utterly vile and evil people! They can pretend to be Christians all they want, but if there is actually such places as heaven and hell, I am pretty sure they are going straight to hell.
I LOVE that photo of POTUS in the doorway waiting to be announced. He looks so humble and you know he has personalized all the accomplishments of those who he will soon be giving awards to. Chips, it reminds me of your comments about first seeing him and the big ears. lol.
This still is how I remember how I came to know of him. I was half mad that he made me like him too much and in turn get involved in politics. I know you all have seen it before but it’s a good Friday night video.
I think I have listened to this at least three times tonight. Couldn’t sleep so I’m back here listening again. Is there a written version? It gets better every time I hear it. Always picking up something new. This kid is brilliant. Hope he is still involved. Do you know if Pres. Obama has heard it? Thanks again for sharing it.
HI carol, yes it is brilliant isn’t it? I heard it early sometime in 2007 and won’t admit how many times I’ve watched it since lol. It was getting so many hits back then on youtube (and it was before will.i.am’s video) so I would like to think POTUS saw it but don’t know for sure. I haven’t been able to find it in a written version.
It is indeed a great day, Bobfr! Now what would be a really grand day is if his two amigos, John McCain and Lindsey Graham, were also out of the Senate.
That Kerry Washington can do anything she wants and if she ever decides to run for US Senate or even the Presidency I would definitely NOT want to be running against her. She is a FORCE FIELD and reminds me so much of PBO when he was a Harvard Law student.
You are absolutely right! Kerry Washington is indeed “a FORCE” to be reckoned with! I just love to see smart and poised young people, Like Kerry Washington, dedicate themselves to picking up the torch of freedom and human dignity that their fathers and mothers, and their grandfathers and grandmothers, on and on, passed on to them. If it’s true that we are immortal, Paul Robeson must be filled with joy to know that there are young people, like Kerry Washington, who are carrying on his legacy of being an artist activist, dedicated to advancing the cause of freedom and human dignity.
Precisely, nath, precisely. As President Obama has enunciated for decades, the vast majority of Americans are very fine folk and among them are individuals of exceptional leadership skills. The ever strengthening of our society is entirely reliant on those who are a generation or to ahead enabling the younger folk to thrive. That is OUR MANDATE and we will never waiver in making it reality.
Admiral Michelle Janine Howard, WOW s right…..she was just amazing. A woman who is so petite but so powerful. Not one of the men in the house or senate can hold a candle to this woman in the military.
Yeah Lootenant. She was the Task Group Commander during that first Somali pirate bit where 3 SEAL snipers wiped out those pirates in the covered life boat. Her flag was on the BOXER, I believe and there is just a few seconds of her on video as she welcomes the rescued Capt aboard her ship. You wouldn’t know her tough ’cause she’s a tiny thing. She was an Admiral then 1 star. I guess they they retired the term Commodore.
theo & Dudette – you are both so kind. Really appreciate all the help in spreading the word to support our President and all the other wonderful Americans doing everything they can, for each other, to improve quality of life for everyone.
I know must close my eyes and ears….about the NAACP….We West Coaster still have some catching up to do…LOL!
Love you all….
Thank you Chips for all the goodness you spread:-)
I don’t care…..I want to see Beyonce and Alicia Keyes…..and of course the commercials. I will be talking and eating while the game is playing in the background.
P.S. Go 49’ers and God Bless the folks in New Orleans.
Slow yo’ roll nathkatun. There is always some room for doubt. This minor dust up about gays in sport and the young 49’s initial response generated a little buzz in the locker room.
I totally missed that because I’ve been busy all day and haven’t heard the latest about this. Still, my confidence in my 49ers is unshaken. I suppose, as is true in all situations in life, the Ravens may be lucky and end up winners. I am just not ready to entertain that possibility.
Sorry about your loss. I am sure that was a heartbreaker for you. Like you, I hope it’s a good game. Just don’t hold back if you end up favoring and rooting for the 49ers.
Ms. Kerry Washington is so great, gracious, wonderful and talented. So nice to see Diane Carroll. I will never forget the teevee series “Julia”. It was such a uplifting show, displaying an intelligent smart beautiful single mother who happen to be African American raising her young son alone. I wish there were more shows like “Julia” and “The Cosby” who gave us wondeful actors like Diane Carroll and Phylica Rashad.
Yep, when Julia came on, everyone in my family gather around the TV to watch it. Same thing for Bill Cosby in I Spy, same thing for Uhura in Star Trek, and of course, anything Sidney Poitier (who at one time was engaged to Ms. Carroll) did.
Being well-informed about the issues and making your voice heard by participating in the political process is the price of citizenship.
You get what you pay for.
Is that Lincoln? I think that all the past and future Presidents would get a kick out of hangin’ with PBO. I bet 10 to 20 yrs from now those of us still around will see one of our future Presidents who, as a young kid, was inspired by PBO and owes his getting into politics to him.
Hey, this one’s especially cool. Look for historical figures in the crowd. I see FDR, Barbara Jordan, MLK, Rosa Parks, Frederick Douglass, Lincoln, Thurgood Marshall, and Lyndon Johnson so far. Wow!
…This week, he vetoed the Foreclosure Transformation Act, which would create a loan and financing program through the New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency that would allow developers and nonprofit groups to buy foreclosed properties and turn them into affordable housing units.
Many of you may have turned over to 2/2/13, but their was another birthday today. It may have been recognized by someone who tweeted pr posted a video of a little black boy singing a few lines. I just got this on FB and thought I’d share. Sorry, I don’t know how to get a photo here. I’ll try and tweet it.
Today would have been the 111th birthday of my favorite poet and Missouri native, Langston Hughes. I wanted to share one of my favorite poems – I, Too. -Debra
I, too, sing America.
I am the darker brother.
They send me to eat in the kitchen
When company comes,
But I laugh,
And eat well,
And grow strong.
Tomorrow,
I’ll be at the table
When company comes.
Nobody’ll dare
Say to me,
“Eat in the kitchen,”
Then.
Besides,
They’ll see how beautiful I am
And be ashamed–
Mother to Son
BY LANGSTON HUGHES
Well, son, I’ll tell you:
Life for me ain’t been no crystal stair.
It’s had tacks in it,
And splinters,
And boards torn up,
And places with no carpet on the floor—
Bare.
But all the time
I’se been a-climbin’ on,
And reachin’ landin’s,
And turnin’ corners,
And sometimes goin’ in the dark
Where there ain’t been no light.
So boy, don’t you turn back.
Don’t you set down on the steps
’Cause you finds it’s kinder hard.
Don’t you fall now—
For I’se still goin’, honey,
I’se still climbin’,
And life for me ain’t been no crystal stair.
I’ve known rivers:
I’ve known rivers ancient as the world and older than the
flow of human blood in human veins
My soul has grown deep like the rivers.
I bathed in the Euphrates when dawns were young
I built my hut near the Congo and it lulled me to sleep.
I looked upon the Nile and raised the pyramids above it.
I heard the singing of the Mississippi when Abe Lincoln
went down to New Orleans, and I’ve seen its muddy
bosom turn all golden in the sunset
Planned Parenthood Says New Regulations Ensure Women Can Get Birth Control at No Cost
WASHINGTON – Planned Parenthood Federation of America today said that the revised accommodation to the Affordable Care Act’s birth control benefit will ensure that women can access no co-pay birth control as part of basic health care. Following is a statement issued by Cecile Richards, President of Planned Parenthood Federation of America:
“I have never loved to hate someone so much” “They both got daddy issues” “Never trust a woman named Becky”
“See Karl Rove about to have a coronary on Fox news when they called Ohio for President Obama – ya all need to see that sh.. go watch it” “Ain’t nothing else to do out here in Oklahoma except be cold and watch conspiracy theories”
“I may have to do a recap of my recap to work out what happened”
I know nothing about the show – but I love this lady – 15 minutes non stop.
Again?
Congrats Carol…and Yes again or should I say yes to both of us at the same time!
I love a tie.
😎 😯 Congratulations for your many Firsts lately. 🙂 🙂 🙂
Thank you beautiful eyes. 😉
Oh honey you’ve been on a roll lately. 😀
Thank you. 😎
I guess that cold weather is keeping you close, huh?
Yes, it is. Trying to catch up with old news. I am only fast on the button. 😉
I wish I could find a button. 😀
Turn up the music!

I have no trouble with Firefox, DF.

Not clueless…just figuring things out.

Firefox man is awake!
I see that:)
Agree.
I just have the least amount of problems with Firefox. I find it’s easy to find what I’m looking for.
Thanks, meta!
I use Firefox with adblocker…..too.
Thanks, Linda!
I believe so. I tried Chrome but it’s too busy for me.
what do you mean “it’s too busy?”
Too many buttons ,apps on the menu bar. Stuff I don’t need or use.
I use Chrome and I love it.
Was that a yes?
I feel like a pig. 💰🐖
Sad…GWB’s dog, Barney died today. Only nice thing about GWB was his dog. RIP Barney.
I’ll bet Bo sends a card.
Bo has impeccable manners like his family. I bet you’re right!
As with presidents being a first dog is a very exclusive club.
aww….I loved Barney Cam…….
Me too. I liked that Barney bit one of the reporters..he.he.he….Barney was a real rascal, lots of spirit. May he cross over the rainbow bridge and play with all the kitties and doggies forever.
Yes, I read he had cancer. 😦
May he RIP. He lived the human equivalent of ~ 87.5 years.
Wow. That’s a live well lived.
Correction: “life well lived.”
Someone posted this site the other night… just checked in to the Great Dane cam…SHE HAD HER PUPPIES!!! GO SEE!!
http://explore.org/#!/live-cams/player/great-dane-service-puppies-indoor-puppy-room
Awwwwwwwwwww!!!!!! She looks exhausted! And the puppies are all kinds of different patterns!!! Tooooooooo cute!
iSN’T IT BEAUTIFUL!! I am partial to Great Danes, as I have one myself…best dog I ever had:) Hard to imagine mine ever being that small
Oh I’d forgotten you had a Great Dane DF, I ADORE them!!!
wonderful, wonderful dogs:)
I love large dogs most of all, especially Great Danes!
me too:)
PUPPIES!!!!!!!!!! Awwwwwww, sweet beautiful baby puppies!! 😀 😀 😀
You sure you aren’t looking at his backside girl? 😎
Shhhh. I thought we agreed that was between you and me. Ha! (And what were you lookin’ at, missy?)
No, really, I love him even without thinking about … uhm … that.
Whoops, I thought I was direct messaging. We can loosen now that he has been inaugurated twice and sworn In four times. 😉
Ha! It’s that “sworn in four times” thingie that’s the best! I laugh every time I think about it. 🙂
Why does MSM turn everything PBO says or does into some sort of “gate”.? So now the new thing is “skeetgate:. Unbelievable!!!!
It gets more pathetic every year COS. The real reason they have to invent ‘gates’ is because there are no real ones – truly, is ‘skeet-gate’ the best they can do? 🙄
How about MSMshittergate? That’ll work.
DF, love your description for msm. 🙂
If the shoe fits!! 🙂
Works for me, too. Of course, detesting the MSM is like hating inanimate objects. They’re useless.
Please tell me your kidding?
The MSM is obsessed with President Obama. His name in their print & televised reports, radio broadcasts, tweets, blogs, etc, brings clicks, views, reactions, and hence ratings. They are also jealous of him yet fascinated with him at the same time. That makes them obsessed…they can’t shake it.
HF….it is a dislike and hate things going on.
Love/Hate Fest I, get.
Or perhaps it is Envy/Scorn fest?
Whatever version of sadistic form they they have adopted, it is pathetically wicked, mental and twisted.
Envy, but not scorn. There is admiration that is not readily or openly acknowledged, but the admiration is there all right.
Yes, that WaPo twerp Glenn Kessler is doing an in-depth investigation into whether or not PBO actually does shoot skeet at Camp David, as if anybody gives a crap. Pure MSM idiocy.
Hay media it doesn’t make any difference to me if POTUS shoot skeet at Camp David or if he doesn’t. Am I alone?
Couldn’t make myself care, AB. But this is about catching him in a lie, which they haven’t figured out is not his style. People who lie for a living find it hard to believe that anyone could actually tell the truth.
This is exactly right.
That’s because the ad has been pulled after pressure from the mammoth corporations led Super Bowl host CBS to take it down from its programming…..
http://thinkprogress.org/health/2013/02/01/1529101/the-super-bowl-ad-soda-industry/
That is wrong. Where are the free market Rethuglicans?
Someone say MONOPOLY??
One of the medal recipients was from my local area…California Institute of Technology (the MIT of the West). Sanford University and other California Universities were represented.
Cool. 😎
The fact that Kevin Spacey is in it makes me want to watch it. Alas, I don’t do Netflix! What to do?
Here is a link to a free one month Netflix trial http://moneyning.com/coupons/netflix-coupon-free-trial/ use it then cancel or keep if you like. I only subscribe to the online streaming. Dont do DVD/mail. Rather go to RedBox for a $1 for those.
Thank you! Fantastic. 🙂
Yup – I’ll probably do a marathon tomorrow, too. Will check back with you then to compare notes! 😀 (There goes my busy weekend of cleaning, etc…)
The original book “House of cards” by Michael Dobbs was made into a mini series by the BBC in the 1990s – Francis Urquhart (initials FU) was the conservative party whip. The book is good, the series had me fixed to the TV. If this is anywhere near as good – don’t miss it.
I put that in my Netflix queue last week.
The BBC version.
enjoy it meta – sometimes it rings just too true for words.
I look forward to it!
The US version premiered today and the whole season is available 13 episodes. Queue it up!
I don’t have streaming, just DVD. I’m waiting for better broadband in my neighborhood!
AHH, darn. We just recently changed to ATT-Uverse its fiberoptics, never goes shaky(underground) and combines Cable/Phone/Internet services into a nice package deal. Look into it, I am really pleased with the service.
I know! I live in SF and they don’t have it in my neighborhood yet. Ridiculous! And they don’t seem to want to bundle an iPhone.
Greedy Corporate Overlords!!!!!!
That BBC series was wickedly good, 99ts. Ian Richardson played Francis Urquhart and a more oily manipulator would be hard to conceive. It was great.
Didn’t read all the way down before I posted. I see we both think it was “wickedly good”!
the BBC Version was fabulous
Agree wholeheartedly!
A rip-off of a BBC series. That one was wickedly good.

President Barack Obama speaks before awarding the National Medals of Science and the National Medals of Technology and Innovation in a ceremony at the White House on February 1
He’s just fantastic.
That’s one fashiontastic tie. You go Mr. President!
The photographer seemed fond of it too!
Even his hands are beautiful! [sigh!]
Love that tie
Five problems bigger than the national debt

Heads Up — NAACP Image Awards on NBC — now!
http://mashable.com/2013/01/31/puppy-treadmill/ hopefully the vido will post The puppy is so cute..
Hiya Inga, I added the YouTube link to your comment, they’re the only videos that will show up here.
LOVE it, hilarious!!!!!!! 🙂
PS Ooooops, with this one you have to click through to YouTube!
What was that place any way, a dog gym? 😕
One of the pop ups said that it was a training facility. I loved the other dog that kept checking on him, trying to figure out if he should push him up from the front of the treadmill, or dissuade him.
There was no dissuading that little thing!!
🙂
lmao. smart puppy. figured out the right way to really have fun on a treadmill. (at least the beginning – look mom, no legs and I am still moving).
TY
Stephen Chu is stepping down! He will be missed, great for clean energy and R&D, average manager.
Nobel Laureate and brilliant man. He’s done a lot in the energy department – if only the media had reported it. They tweeted a ton of stuff over the years about what they were doing and accomplishing.
OH NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This makes me so sad.
All his first term smart picks are burned out, thanks rethuglican legislative tactics.
How is the bench?
Dont worry his not so secret replacement Ash Carter is just as brilliant he is #2 ad DOD. A Rhodes Scholar and instructor at MIT and has been in charge of the nuclear prolif/START treaty for PBO. Also transitioning Defense to green fuels, Llke the Bio-Fuel powered fighter jet they unveiled.
excellent.
Thanks for sharing.
Whew!
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released a final rule Friday that will expose financial relationships between doctors and industry in compliance with President Obama’s healthcare law.

Awesome! Right wing heads implode!
Ah, as I suspected Xtine, VC is Tweety!!!! Amazing Twitter warriors here, heroes!!!
My pleasure Xtine, the highlight of my days is troll-spam-deleting (I lead a very full life, honest!).
rum-talk ?
🙂 I’m out of rum, waiting for Yardarm to stock me up.
Uh-huh!! You have a couple of clones in the basement. Nah. Aaaah, must be some kind of digit-liquid relief your super-delete digit! What’s your super-secret elixir! I-Me-Myself wants some! And don’t say Guiness — that’s breakfast of champions! 🙂
Ooops! “for” didn’t make it. “… digit-liquid relief for …”
Xtine, all my life I’ve wanted to like Guinness because it looks delicious, but ……. I hate it!!!!
It looks so pretty in the tall glass, but it’s like drinking food! I better stop while I’m still ahead — before I won’t be permitted to visit my family/friends in those Guiness Worlds. 🙂
Tweety? Ugh! 😦 How come I never get to be someone ‘dishy’? Tweety?? 🙄
Nah, you’re not Tweety! You’re Tweety’s Mindbender! Howzat!
Well stated friend 🙂
Hello there, old friend! We seem to be working conflicting shifts. 😉 Nice to see you.
VC, it seems my ‘shift’ has steadily become an endless 24/7 … though I have no one to blame but myself … just wish I could peek in here and Twitter more frequently but, alas, we’re building the infrastructure to enable equitable access for everyone and that takes a bunch of time 🙂
#FORWARD
I hear you, Sir. Good luck as you try to get things working for everyone! Your schedule plus the fact I’ve been tardy or taking excessive breaks for some of my shifts hopefully won’t go on forever. 😉 😉
I think I said it. 🙂 🙂 🙂 I’ve been sending some MSNBC hosts how fed up with them.
So perfect. To the dustbin of history with him! WAAAAAAAAAAAAY past his prime!
He still has another 55,672 Sunday shows to do DF, him being so relevant and all.
Oh, he’ll be completely breathless on this Sunday’s Meet the Republicans.
ENOUGH!
Damn, that many! I’ll snuggle under my covers & watch nature shows every Sunday morning!
I’ll scrub the grout in the shower with a toothpick before I watch any of that mess on Sunday!
Bwwahahahahaaaa.
I would rather watch the Cooking Channel, but it adds to those thingies that I’m trying to get rid of! So, nature shows, it is!
That senile old goat. Pfft!
I hope some smart person on the hill makes sure a copy of this ends up where McCain can see it. This sad, pathetic, hate-filled man needs to go to one of his homes that’s closest to the desert and sit outside and howl at the moon. He would do more good than he’s doing now.
Hi all – time for me to wake up and be out and about on a fine and sunny day (late night reading todd, late morning sleeping in) – enjoy your evening
Morning 99ts, have a great day, you’re way ahead of us!
Hi Miss – doing my (not often enough) good deeds today – feeling as good as Cookemom today – just missing her way with the poems
amk…..thank you for your precise and detailed answer to my question:) I knew that you’d love waking up to us talking smack about you BEFORE coffee…I seriously was thinking of calling you, but thought better of it….grumpy men without their coffee is NOT a good thing. Thank you for your detailed and throughly anal engineer answer to my question. It was perfect:) And exactly what I did:) Rest of the family helped….your answer was just the cherry on top!
Heh, why you calling an engineer?
FF is teh best.
I thought you said that’s what you did! My bad? Whatever…:) I don’t care what you do, thanks for helping me out…..didn’t know about the deleting when you left FF…maybe I’ll use that exclusively:)
Lovely pic!
Thought it went nice w/ the one you posted upthread Chipsticks, Thanks.
Aww, sweet! Nothing like a mother’s love!
I really love this photo 🙂
Don’t think I have ever seen Secretary of State Clinton smile as brilliantly as in that photo – ever. Good for her. She knows she’s earned a very fine legacy for herself and I am so happy for her.
#FORWARD
She probably feel like I did on my last day of work when I retired. I felt like a burden had been lifted and I felt free. 🙂
Hay Chelsea, I think Hillary and Bill are ready to be Grandparents.
I want a racoon!!!
Ok, it’s definitely the rum talking.
No it ishint.
Trust the irish to say it’s seven am somewhere in the world.
😆
I’VE heard they are damn mean nasty vicious things!! But they ARE cute and might be mean ONLY because they haven’t experienced the joy of YOU, Chips!!!
😆 Magapie, we need to adopt an official TOD racoon, I’ll see if I can find one!
Trust me. You DON’T want a raccoon! Little bugger made a house in my parents chimney, more than once, and the little darlings fell down INTO THE HOUSE! And while they were at it, they ripped up the roof for good measure….No. You don’t want a raccoon!
Oh, yiiiiiiiiiiiiiikes! Okay, I think I’ll stick with cats and dogs 😕
Great idea!
How do you get a one-armed blonde out of a tree?
Wave !
Girls? GET HIM!
before Amk goes to far off tangent, wanted you to check out this nice Steven Chu article I posted upthread. Sorry for evesdropping!
Tangent? Us? Are you kidding:)
😆 😆
I had retired my boxing gloves, but for this one, I think I have to pull them back out again. (Although, I have to admit, I did chuckle a little)… ;?
This one (even without the music) makes me sob. Every. Time.
Brilliant.
A blonde walks into an appliance store, and asks to buy a television set.
“Sorry,” says the owner. “We don’t allow blondes in here.”
The blonde leaves and dyes her hair brown. The next day, she returns and asks to buy the television.
“Sorry,” says the owner. “We don’t allow blondes in here.”
So the next day, she dyes her hair black and goes to back the store.
The owner again says “We don’t allow blondes in here.”
Then she turns her hair into a Chips-esque green and goes back to the store and asks about the tv.
The owner again sez “We don’t allow blondes in here.”
“Hey,” says the blonde, shocked, “how did you know I am a blonde?”
“You’ve been trying to buy a microwave, missy.”
“Then she turns her hair into a Chips-esque green”
😆 You’re baaaaaaaaaaaaaad.
… but oh so good! 🙂
I hear “It’s not easy being green,” Great Blog Diva! I applaud your courage and your unique sense of style!
Wow! Good for her. She’s very likeable.
little bit of trivia: kerry washington has never been a student at ut-austin %-
she did however GRADUATE from the university chuck todd dropped out of, george Washington, graduating in 1998 Phi Beta Kappa with a double major in Anthropology & Sociology.
Have any of you heard the news there are now 60 Senators to pass VAWA? Seven R’s crossed over!
Hallelujah!!
😀
Great! Sure hope I can catch a rerun. Forgot to DVR it. [smacking my head!]
There was a blonde whose house was on fire.
She calls the fire department screaming, ”Help me, help me. My house is on fire. Please!”
The fire department operator says, ”Okay, okay. Calm down and we’ll be there soon. How do we get to your house?”
The blonde answers, ”Duh, in that big red truck!”
…
Why did the mirror have 6 holes in it?
A blonde tried to shoot herself!
…
How do you confuse a blonde?
Tell her to count the stairs on a escalator.
///
gotta run. see you folks later.
OK…I thought I’d try to comment using FF…and I can’t comment here when I try to post a reply in the box. Now what?
Did you see this? http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/02/02/us-twitter-hacked-idUSBRE91100I20130202
(Reuters) – Anonymous hackers attacked Twitter this week and may have gained access to passwords and other information for as many as 250,000 user accounts, the microblog revealed late on Friday.
Random thought: We went from 74F degrees mid-week to don’t-smile-cos-your-saliva-will-help-deep-freeze-your-teeth! 3 daus. Global warming, anyone?!!
Yikes – where are you? Although, I did have my air conditioning on for a bit this afternoon in the valley of Los Angeles, but I’ve now got my fireplace on…
Xtine, are you my Georgia neighbor? We had a 30 degree drop in temps from yesterday to today. Freaky!
Found that Neville Brothers video that carol and Dakota were talking about in the Rosa Parks thread.
Nice one. Never heard this til now. Thanks ladies!
That was sweet Dudette. 🙂 I didn’t get passed them singing Amazon Grace. 😉
Hey, check it! Somebody did a nice remix with a funky groove and some righteous rapping. I sooooo love YouTube!
TY
Speak a word Harry!!!!! Peach!!!
This story from that orange site was mentioned on an earlier thread. Had to tweet it. Wow, can’t believe these people.
Here’s the actual list on the NRA website: http://nraila.org/Issues/FactSheets/Read.aspx?ID=15
The news from Massachusetts: Scott Brown is NOT running for U.S. Senate in 2013!
Fitz and Olivia Pope at the NAACP Image Awards.

My goodness, they look like a real couple in real life. Is (Fitz) married in real life? 🙂
I was kind of wondering the same thing. They’re old friends but they have some real chemistry. It took me a while to warm up to him but now I get it.
Yes, I had a hard time with them, too, because I thought he was unworthy of her (characters). I’m starting to invest in them as an on-screen couple, though. It’s just seems complicated. I still have to watch this week’s episode, though. But, they do have chemistry in real life – that’s for sure.
They’re actors, and if you are a good one you can act like your enemy is your best friend. I’m not saying they are enemies just good actors.
I haven’t gotten in the show, maybe I will give it a try.
And I admit I know nothing about Ms. Washington or the gentlemen.
I think he played the bad friend in Ghost.
Oh boooo! He’s married and has 2 daughters. 😦

I retweeted it, but I don’t know how to post it here. Maybe someone could do that? 😉
At your service m’am! 🙂
Thank you so much!
😀 De nada!
This is Kerry Washington’s fabulous speech at the NAACP Image Awards. A Must Watch.
That was truly brilliant and inspirational. Wow – I didn’t know she had all that wisdom and eloquence in her. Amazing! I knew I liked her!
Just watch this and was thinking the same!
Can I say BRILLIANT??
Thanks ut. Somebody turn my damn faucets on again. Seems like lately everytime I come to this site I bust a pipe.
Scandal fans!
Thanks for posting these UT!

Alycee. Standby I got another link you might like. Let me go get it.
Never mind I’ll put it up on the next thread. This one is getting full.
Ok, back from Super Bowl party shopping. Contrary to my better instincts, the missus accompanied me. But, contrary to my expectations, we were out of there in quick fashion. Now we just have to decide what to have our guests bring.
Glad you’re back!
Look at this! Honestly, these people are really just the lowest of the low!
Yup – truly demonic and despicable.
It was suppose to be may them and their guns rot in hell.
These are utterly vile and evil people! They can pretend to be Christians all they want, but if there is actually such places as heaven and hell, I am pretty sure they are going straight to hell.
Ugh Ezra Klein on LOD….change channel. Lets see what HGTV is showing.
I think Lawrence doesn’t do Fridays anymore. He mentioned something like that after the election coverage was over.
Hay Lawrence O’Donnell, how about using Joy Reid? She is much better than Ezra Klein. When is MSNBC going to come to their senses?
Excellent idea!! You are so right. She is being wasted. Maybe CNN will snap her u since they’re busy cleaning house over there. SOMEBODY PLEASE!!
Although, I’m not sure I’d want to be working every Friday night at 10PM either. 🙂

Thank you forus50. I have never seen it.

Yes We Did ….
Tee-hee-hee!
😀 😀
We shoulda had a farewell party for Joe Lieberman. Without inviting him, of course!
It is indeed a great day, Bobfr! Now what would be a really grand day is if his two amigos, John McCain and Lindsey Graham, were also out of the Senate.
Yes. AMAZING! So was Kerry Washington. Fabulous show.
That Kerry Washington can do anything she wants and if she ever decides to run for US Senate or even the Presidency I would definitely NOT want to be running against her. She is a FORCE FIELD and reminds me so much of PBO when he was a Harvard Law student.
Yes We Can
I gotta say it — she’s AWESOME!!
I know I have got to check this Kerry Washington out, to see what all the fuss is about.

Yes We Can
Admiral Michelle Janine Howard, WOW s right…..she was just amazing.
She is simply FANTASTIC, sailor!! And, thank you for the video clip – hadn’t seen it.

Thank you Yardarm. 🙂
Yes We Can
time for a bit of rest ….
Nice.
Behold! Tweet Perfection from the Master!
Unquestionably!
theo & Dudette – you are both so kind. Really appreciate all the help in spreading the word to support our President and all the other wonderful Americans doing everything they can, for each other, to improve quality of life for everyone.

Good Evening Tods:-)
I know must close my eyes and ears….about the NAACP….We West Coaster still have some catching up to do…LOL!
Love you all….
Thank you Chips for all the goodness you spread:-)
Hey Kasai! Found your msg from last night! So sorry I missed it. Old DJ’s been a little off her game. The drugs are wearing off slowly! 🙂
Here’s a little something just for you, my dear!
I am right behind ya kasai…tuning into the NAACP Awards….night all.
So who is going to win the Super Bowl? I think I am more interested in seeing Beyonce than the game, and also the kids from Newtown singing.
I don’t care…..I want to see Beyonce and Alicia Keyes…..and of course the commercials. I will be talking and eating while the game is playing in the background.
P.S. Go 49’ers and God Bless the folks in New Orleans.
I thought you didn’t care. Go Baltimore .
I think I read somewhere that Jennifer Hudson is going to be singing with the kids. It’s almost like Inaug 2013 de ja vu except in a football stadium.
Yep found it!
http://thegrio.com/2013/01/31/jennifer-hudson-to-sing-with-sandy-hook-chorus/
And with PBO doing half-time interview, many will tune in for that reason.
Who is interviewing him? I wish Bob Costis or Bryan Gumbal would. Isn’t it usually before the game? That’s a lot to get into halftime.
Scott Pelley.
TY
What happened to the Admiral? I wonder if she’s out there body surfing again? Oh well I guess I’ll save my stuff ’til tomorrow.
Is there any doubt? The 49ers will definitely win the Super Bowl! So far, they have a perfect record of winning all the 5 Super Bowls they played in.
So then you’re saying they’re due for a loss. 🙂
Just kidding. I don’t have a fave in it, since my Falcons lost to your Niners. 😦
I just hope it’s a good game. Good luck to both teams!
Sorry about your loss. I am sure that was a heartbreaker for you. Like you, I hope it’s a good game. Just don’t hold back if you end up favoring and rooting for the 49ers.
We’ll see. 🙂
Adele – Rolling in the Deep (Piano/Cello Cover) – ThePianoGuys
That was neat! Cellist reminds me of David Byrne (Talking Heads), but of course, DB’s a silver-haired fox nowadays.
Don’t forget the Puppy Bowl on Animal Planet! They have the Kitty half-time show and gerbals in the blimp! 😉
Has anyone heard from Dona? If you’re lurking Dona sending hugs.
and our laziness. If we don’t get out and vote EVERY election. It is our duty.
Lincoln was Republican. That’s Andrew Jackson in the picture. 🙂
http://andythomas.com/callinthered.aspx
There’s a version of all Republican President’s play pool too (Callin The Blue). You can find that on his website – just look under Political Artwork.
Hey, this one’s especially cool. Look for historical figures in the crowd. I see FDR, Barbara Jordan, MLK, Rosa Parks, Frederick Douglass, Lincoln, Thurgood Marshall, and Lyndon Johnson so far. Wow!
Is that Colin Powell with both his arms raised, standing in front of LBJ?
That is so cool Dudette.

Chris Christie shows why he can’t be trusted
…This week, he vetoed the Foreclosure Transformation Act, which would create a loan and financing program through the New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency that would allow developers and nonprofit groups to buy foreclosed properties and turn them into affordable housing units.

Okay, now I’m really leaving. See you guys!
Many of you may have turned over to 2/2/13, but their was another birthday today. It may have been recognized by someone who tweeted pr posted a video of a little black boy singing a few lines. I just got this on FB and thought I’d share. Sorry, I don’t know how to get a photo here. I’ll try and tweet it.
Today would have been the 111th birthday of my favorite poet and Missouri native, Langston Hughes. I wanted to share one of my favorite poems – I, Too. -Debra
I, too, sing America.
I am the darker brother.
They send me to eat in the kitchen
When company comes,
But I laugh,
And eat well,
And grow strong.
Tomorrow,
I’ll be at the table
When company comes.
Nobody’ll dare
Say to me,
“Eat in the kitchen,”
Then.
Besides,
They’ll see how beautiful I am
And be ashamed–
I, too, am America.
~Langston Hughes
You probably know I’m not Debra. 😉
I also love this Poem, as well as his other poem about the Rivers. I wish all the Obama haters would read and internalize, this poem, especially this:
“Besides,
They’ll see how beautiful I am
And be ashamed–”
Mother to Son
BY LANGSTON HUGHES
Well, son, I’ll tell you:
Life for me ain’t been no crystal stair.
It’s had tacks in it,
And splinters,
And boards torn up,
And places with no carpet on the floor—
Bare.
But all the time
I’se been a-climbin’ on,
And reachin’ landin’s,
And turnin’ corners,
And sometimes goin’ in the dark
Where there ain’t been no light.
So boy, don’t you turn back.
Don’t you set down on the steps
’Cause you finds it’s kinder hard.
Don’t you fall now—
For I’se still goin’, honey,
I’se still climbin’,
And life for me ain’t been no crystal stair.
🙂
I am a great Fan of Langston Hughes as well…
my favorite poem is:
Negro Speaks of Rivers
I’ve known rivers:
I’ve known rivers ancient as the world and older than the
flow of human blood in human veins
My soul has grown deep like the rivers.
I bathed in the Euphrates when dawns were young
I built my hut near the Congo and it lulled me to sleep.
I looked upon the Nile and raised the pyramids above it.
I heard the singing of the Mississippi when Abe Lincoln
went down to New Orleans, and I’ve seen its muddy
bosom turn all golden in the sunset
I’ve known rivers:
Ancient, dusky rivers.
My soul has grown deep like the rivers.
Langston Hughes
Thank you to all who replyed and shared their favorites. They are beautiful. My computer is going up and down, so thanking you all together. 🙂
