NYT: A brand new conservative group calling itself Americans for a Strong Defense and financed by anonymous donors is running advertisements urging Democratic senators in five states to vote against Chuck Hagel, President Obama’s nominee to be secretary of defense, saying he would make the United States “a weaker country.”
Another freshly minted and anonymously backed organization, Use Your Mandate, which presents itself as a liberal gay rights group but purchases its television time through a prominent Republican firm, is attacking Mr. Hagel as “anti-Gay,” “anti-woman” and “anti-Israel” in ads and mailers…..

AP: Thousands of people, many holding signs with names of gun violence victims and messages such as “Ban Assault Weapons Now,” joined a rally for gun control on Saturday, marching from the Capitol to the Washington Monument.
Leading the crowd were marchers with “We Are Sandy Hook” signs, paying tribute to victims of the December school shooting in Newtown, Conn. Washington Mayor Vincent Gray and other city officials marched alongside them. The crowd stretched for at least two blocks along Constitution Avenue.
Participants held signs reading “Gun Control Now,” “Stop NRA” and “What Would Jesus Pack?” among other messages. Other signs were simple and white, with the names of victims of gun violence.
About 100 residents from Newtown, where a gunman killed 20 first-graders and six teachers, traveled to Washington together….

President Barack Obama’s statement on Sen. Tom Harkin’s announcement that he would not seek re-election:
“By the time Senator Harkin finishes his fifth term, he will have represented the people of Iowa in the United States Congress for an incredible 40 years. He has served in the U.S. Senate longer than any Democrat in Iowa’s history. During his tenure, he has fought passionately to improve quality of life for Americans with disabilities and their families, to reform our education system and ensure that every American has access to affordable health care. Senator Harkin will be missed, and Michelle and I join Iowans in thanking him for his long-standing service and wish him and his wife, Ruth, all the best in the future.”

GM all. Thinking of LL and his wfe and Weslyan and his wife. Blessed day to all.
GM folks. GM chips.
Morning Amk, love that!!!!
Agh! I had to talk about this as it is worthy of discussion. Chris Hayes, a Liberal with no sense of pride or loyalty for his Nation- starts off the show with someBody saying…, Nonody saw the fighters in Libya, nobody saw who they were fighting where did they go, did they go to Mali? They do not share a border. ( no but Algeria does)!
You see what this asshole just tried to do? He was comparing Iraq of 2003 to Libya. Think, Where ate the WMDs, did they go across the border, etc?
In other words, their is no Al Qaeda and they are our friends, oh and plea stop using Drones.
Something is seriously wrong with American Anti war Liberals. They have no sense of being an American. At this point, both sides, the Tea Party who wants a brand new corporate run system and The Anti war liberals who want America to surrender.
I assure you Al Qaeda is real and a threat.
The Chris Hayes show is made for two people, glen greensand and Cenk Uhygur.
Also, we don’t have the money to go into Syria what with all these cuts that the Republucans are surpassing through. That’s the only reason we have not provided air support in Syria( think Apache Helicopters).
I don’t know…
Chris Hayes is not a Liberal. He’s a Libertarian – an obnoxious, narcissistic one at that.
True! But a left wing Libertarian is one who thinks Corporations are the problem. A right wing libertarian is one who believes that government is the problem. CH is in between both!
He straddles both sides based on which angle he can use to attack the President.
Oh amk. lol. Top of the morning to you.
Morning cman. 🙂
Look at Tom Bradys new Mansion, it has a Moat-

Jeeze. He better get that eye of the Tiger back and stop losing these playoff games.
Nice house though.
I knew I should have practised quarterbacking a little harder, I could be living in a house like that now. Oh well.
That’s an amazing house!
I have read his wife makes more money modeling on the runway than he does as a QB.
Ah, well then I should have practised my runwaying a little more! Morning Bill.
How much room do two people need?
Hi Everyone…I remember years ago as part of a stars home tour in Hollywood they drove past Johnny Weismuller’s house (Tarzan many many many years ago famous for the Tarzan yell and of course a Gold Medallist Olympic Swimmer). They mentioned the fact that he had a 300 foot swimming pool curled around his house so he could stay in shape. Brady’s pic reminds me of that. Weismuller’s house is still standing I hear. http://www.paulrwilliamsproject.org/gallery/residence-nicolosi-estate-los-angeles-ca/
Good morning Chips and everyone up and raring to go today
John Husted is Sec Of State for Ohio, and he is courting the WH reporter for cooking the books?
So, that ad about chuck Todd saying he has access to the WH to being the news to us all.
Sounds like Chuck also has access to the Republucan party extreme Coup policy matters.
Is Chuck Todd the spearhead of the first Nations Coup?
Chuck Todd is being very defensive on Twitter right now. Trying to cover his arse by telling people that they don’t understand what Husted’s tweet was about. That they are playing “telephone” game.
Tell him he is unethical!
Good morning Chips and TOD. Chuck Todd is getting huge backlash on Twitter for his lunch or whatever with Jon Husted. I agree that there should be equitable and fair redistricting reforms so that all districts have fair representation and their votes count; not the gerrymandering crap the GOP put in place in 2010 that allowed them to retain the House and state legislatures in 2012 despite Democrats getting more votes.
What chaps everyone’s hide is that this is not what Jon Husted is proposing. Everyone knows what he did in 2012. He tried to steal Ohio’s votes, gerrymander Ohio even more, and advocated strongly for disgusting voter suppression laws. He hasn’t given up. The fact that Chuck Todd – who claims to be objective – sat down for a lunch with a known partisan and not clear up what was discussed is troubling. If he had had lunch with a Democratic State Secretary and discussed these issues, it would also not be okay until everything that was talked about was revealed. One should not call themselves a journalist and then behave in troubling partisan ways. One who claims to be a journalist should never sit down for lunch with politicians and discuss such sensitive issues. He wants to discuss those issues? Invite Jon Husted on the Daily Rundown where the public can watch. That is objective journalism.
Tweet Mr Griffin, CEO of Msnbc and tell him to spell chuck Todd of his duties if he can not be objective. This is series business.
We may have to pass a Law that makes the popular vote the outcome. But it will never get passed through the US congress.
I agree although MSNBC considers Chuck Todd one of their best assets and they’ll be hard-pressed to get rid of him. Todd has Tweety’s approval which means that nothing will get him fired – particularly when it serves to benefit Republicans.
But as ut indicated, everyone who knows Jon Husted knows what he’s about. Husted is of the opinion that Ohio is no longer easily winnable by GOP because of changes in demographics, and therefore, the rules need to be changed to make it easier for GOP and harder for the DEMS. Chuck Todd knows who Husted is – but agrees with him nonetheless because Todd himself would like more Republicans to be power. We saw how Chuck Todd operated during the 2012 elections – shilling for Romney at every possible opportunity, pushing that enthusiasm gap meme in the face of glaring contradictory evidence.
And we should NOT give them the benefit of the doubt because we know who both of these men are and what they stand for.
I will do that. I think I wrote here or somewhere else about a week ago that it’s fine for Todd to be a commentator or MSNBC–I’d put him in the category of Andrea Mitchell and Joe Scarborough who never pass up an opportunity to criticize the President.
AND, beyond that Chuck Todd ALSO has an obnoxious, snarky personality that I cannot take.
Even worse, since he is NOT objective, he SHOULD NOT be the MSNBC White House Correspondent. He Insist on asking the President disrespectful questions, and then asking the same asinine question in followups over and over again. He leaves no time for the other correspondents who are paid to do the same thing. It’s like he thinks the President has granted HIM an exclusive interview, and these press conferences are about HIM. He wants to be the show–make news with his disrespectful questions.
NOW he’s trying to be a DOUBLE AGENT!!! MSNBC needs to take him OFF the White House beat. He has become a hero to the right, and USELESS as a nonpartisan White House correspondent.
Get rid of him.
Chucky is getting sensitive.
Ooooooh, is the Toad feeling the pressure now that he’s been exposed?
Now I disagree with this…This is not a pox on both houses situation..
.It is the GOP who have passed these Voter Suppression laws….it is the GOP who is representing less and less of the electorate….it is the GOP who see gerrymandering the Electoral Votes as a way of bypassing the majority of Americans in order to win National Elections….
there is no duality here….
Furthermore Husted personally tried to disenfranchize voters in the last election….
~The Struggle Continues~
In a piece titled “Fact-Checking Papa John’s CEO,” the cable news network attempted to piece together the math behind Schnatter’s claim. “Papa John” refused to disclose to CNN how many pizzas he sells a year, or how many full time employees he has, presumably in the name of keeping the math more difficult to calculate. But CNN ultimately concluded that “the math doesn’t matter” because ObamaCare places no financial burden on corporations. As it turns out, Papa John’s was making false claims that it would need to pay for health care for part time workers, which ObamaCare does not apply to…
On a scale from true to misleading to false, CNN concluded that Papa John’s claims about ObamaCare were “false.” Now that Obama has won reelection and ObamaCare is set to become the law of the land in 2014 backed by the Supreme Court ruling which says that it’s fully constitutional, Schnatter has not surprisingly kept his prices the same as they were before the election. After all, his “eleven cents cost per pizza” claim turns out to have been something which the republican Schnatter apparently made up simply in the name of trying to help fellow republican Mitt Romney win the election; perhaps he was confusing it for the cost of the Romney fundraiser he held in his own mansion. Last week the CEO of Whole Foods was caught in a similar ObamaCare lie.
Jovie, don’t waste your time with Chris Hayes and his ilk.
He is already off my tv. I was looking for another channel besides NFL network because I can’t stand the Harbaugh Bowl. LOL!
It’s not the Harbaugh Bowl, not one of them will be on that field running, catching, hitting, throwing. Being a Dallas Cowboys fan the only thing I’m looking forward to is Beyonce at halftime. Although the success of San Fran quarterback is a good story.
Glad I didn’t get his book.
this is perfect, amk.
and aloha, good hawaii morning to you!
I have not heard the Administration talk about this Republican redistricting? They must not consider it a threat, or they think it will backfire?

Tweet Phil griffin Msnbc head!
I have email Chuck Todd, Chris Matthews, NBC Nightly News, Ed Schultz, and I don’t tweet, so if anyone have Griffin email give it to me, I will email him too. I also want to email Maddow and Rev. Al to see what they think of this.
If Phil Griffin have a email address. I also sent a email to Todd’s sidekick on the Today show. Savannah Guthrie.
I go to bed and all is well in Twitter Town. I wake up and there seems to be a guy who is evidently choking on some crow he had for lunch.
My tweet to the twit: @chucktodd You think the peacock going to save you? They screech very loud when they want attention. Good watch dogs. Love living in WY. Ps to chips and TOD, peacocks do love living here. Many people in country have them for their alarm they are related to pheasants. Good morning all.
Good morning Ms. Chips and TOD Family. I hope everyone have a supper fantastic day today.
Morning Ranman, hope you have a sublime Sunday too!
Good Sunday Morning to all…..so I get up and promptly get a Sunday morning headache….I have a question……where do tv shows get guests?…is there some central booking agencies?…..I’ll be fair with you, for the most part, I keep Uppers on for the noise…and noise it is…just gibberish to me…almost like a bunch of people speaking a foreign language that you don’t understand a word of…….so I sit here on a cold but sunshiney Sunday morning weighing the most serious decisions…do I want Uppers or Candy Crowley or HGTV’s background noise while I paint my Grandmother’s old Singer sewing cabinet with iron stand?………..so what I get out of background noise is that Gitmo is the most pressing problem that USA is facing today…..not voter suppression, not gun control, not court stopping PBO’s appointments, not Chuck Todd’s lunch, not immigration, not women in combat, not what right wing idiots are trying to do in States, incl. NC, and most certainly not JOBS….so if I tune in Candy Crowley’s lovefest with right wing idiots…nope not going there…..sooooooo…HGTV wins…
thepoliticalcarnival.net tracks the “media bias” on Sunday talkers…I’ve never seen a week when the dems outnumber the repugs
This week it looks like 9Rs to 3Ds

Yeah, and it’s constant. Thanks for sending TPC some love.
PS Goooood day, Chips!!
And a goooooooood day to you too Susan!
Tweeted Susan. Mind boggling they keep doing us every week despite many pointing it out.
Thanks, AMK. Glad TPC is getting some kudos for their weekly tally.
This is my sentiment—-exactly—-only watched once, with Obama…

Good morning All! Dear Chips, could I ask a big favor? Would you mind adding the Inaugural Prayer Service to the “2013 Inaugura Postsl” button thingy. I hope I didn’t miss the link over there early this a.m. In my mind I’ve dubbed the main sermon by Rev. Hamilton: Knocking Holes In The Darkness. Then Wintley Phipps’ & Children of the Gospel Choir’s singing! Maybe I was feeling somewhat “delicate” this morning, but I was touched! 🙂
Here’s the link: http://www.c-spanvideo.org/program/310530-1
Thank you, and apologies if it’s there already! 🙂
Will do Xtine, thank you for the reminder!!! Just getting some work done, then I’ll see to it!
Oh Dear Chips! I surely don’t mean to add more to your load, but grand THANKS! The singing I mentioned above just caught me by surprise, my reaction to it, and, yes, I got all ISO-tissues at Phipps’ performance. It’s all PBO’s fault! 🙂
Damn, Chips! That top picture w/ PBO eyes! It’s as if he’s looking at you while you’re still under your covers, with just your eyes peeking over & he’s saying: Get Up, get up! LOL!
I’m an “eye” person. This photo is perfect!
🙂 It was a spectacular ‘Rise and Shine – Right Now!’ pic!!!!
So much more effective than anything in my recent memory! 😉
My “Naughty Mat” thought over that first line, & since he’s just Rising & Shining us, was: PBO is Pleased! Yep, I got out from under the covers real fast! It’s my random thought & I’ll fashion it any which way, thank you very much! /Taking a bow! LOL!
Good morning, Chips. Unfortunately they take a major swipe at PBO in the lede. Unfortunately TNR is not a publication that likes the President.
In that case, don’t worry, we’ll just look at that picture & ignore the text! Yep, selectivity this morning!
Random thought: once the appeal is done for that recess appt. judge shenanigans, doesn’t that make the Senate have to do actual work during recess if they want to block appts. from being done at that time? Hah! There’s a long term move going on here.
This is laughable. What about THESE appts?
http://thinkprogress.org/justice/2012/01/04/397589/president-obama-has-made-far-fewer-recess-appointments-than-any-recent-president/
DF, they know that, we all know that, but they just keep saying this shit. Well, let Congress now do their freaking jobs while they’re at it! Can’t block unless you’re doing actual Senate work. None of this nonsense of popping onto the floor, say some BS, & pretend you’re still in session.
Tweeted, df
thanks, amk…..selective memory hard at work
Thanks for the chart. From some of the comments I saw earlier this week, you would have thought this President was the ONLY one who ever made recess appointments OR issued Executive Orders. He’s actually done fewer of both than every other recent Presidents.
Want to clarify that the negative comments about appointments and EOs was not here on TOD.
i agree…there is a long term move afoot…PBO is always 3 steps ahead….YEAH!
I know when he first made that comment people launched a boycott plea. We should continue promoting corporations such as Costco and local businesses that treat people fairly and boycott businesses like Papa John’s and Whole Foods.
You are so right. I used to go to Whole Foods because they carried Gluten free products that my local supermarket didn’t. So I spoke to the manager and he said to bring him a list of the products and the next week they were on the shelf at lower prices than Whole Foods. So guys, there are ways of getting the products you need. The Papa John’s pizza store in my area is always empty. They are selling slices now at 99cents. Hit them in the pocket, that’s the only way we can fght back.
Am I the only TOD member who is very excited about POTUS and the SOS on 60 Minutes tonight?
Isn’t a 60 Minutes interview worth all the Sunday GOP talkfest morning poop?
Last ? Does anyone else remember Steve Kroft’s first interview with the Obama family in 2007? Little Sasha sat on the kitchen counter and Daddy Barack was mixing up tuna fish.
Mommy Michelle was wearing a heather long-sleeved tee from the Gap. Their very popular one with pearl buttons on the shoulder of the boat neck and more buttons on the sleeve cuffs.
I thought I knew every minute detail, but you remember Michelle’s Gap tshirt? with the pearl buttons on the shoulders??? 🙂
And yes, I’m looking forward to the 60 Minutes interview—-I take it from the little release that it was supposed to be another sole PBO/Kroft interview following his re-election, but the president asked if Hill could come along, to “publicly thank her” and I’m guessing to counteract the harsh treatment she got from the Republican inquisition this week, to set her record straight.
dotster, I remember the shirt because it was in my closet, too, in 2007. Gap made that tee in many colors and I had a half dozen of them. Since that one winner there hasn’t been any item in their store that I liked so much.
imagine my surprise when I saw Michelle wearing it.
I’m definitely looking forward to the interview and will be watching tonight. However, I’m also aware of the MSM shenanigans where the Clintons and PBO are concerned, so I’m keeping an eye on them as well.
And I remember the first Steve Kroft interview, but I am amazed that you recall all these details about what Michelle Obama was wearing! :):)
Are we allowed to post buzzfeed stuff here?– because I liked the 20 life lessons we can learn from turtles
http://www.buzzfeed.com/turtlefeed/20-life-lessons-we-can-learn-from-turtles-and-tort-ruc
Ah, of course you are Dotster!! Going to the link right now, thank you! Even though I’m actually meant to be working 😳
Oh really? REALLY?!?! So you’re supposed to be working and yet you’re mocking my beloved fantastic wonderful candylicious always number one Chelsea? Tut….tut….tut….
Go sit in the corner Madam!
If anyone cares to recall this article which features Chuck Todd one month before the election gleefully touting his precious “enthusiasm gap” meme, you can understand why Obama’s victory remains a very, very sore spot for Chuckie – especially since the very demographics that he predicted would not show up, actually showed up BIG time to prove him dead wrong. It wasn’t just FOX News that mislead Republicans to think that Romney was likely to be elected. The “liberal” media was doing their part – and aggressively so, hoping that their reporting would produce a similar outcome.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/10/07/chuck-todd-republican-voters_n_1946586.html
And so you can understand why we view Chuck Todd’s recent private meeting with Husted with a very jaundiced eye- I am not going to give Todd the benefit of the doubt here. No sirree.
Yes, I remember Todd promoting the “enthusiasm gap” dozens of times, and it was a common theme throughout msnbc also, repeated by Tweety and Fineman and everyone on Morning Joe etc., and by every anchor and pundit throughout the day until you got to Bashir. I guess the CW was if you repeat it often enough, it becomes reality. Todd was especially visible with this theme, looking into the camera daily with this propaganda pitch. I could never figure out if it was because he hated Obama personally, childishly bitter about a press conf. putdown or he was representing for the NBC honchos.
hopefruit2,dotster3, I remember it too. Obama is not drawing the crowds he did in 08, anything negative they push. But I’m so thankful it didn’t work. You take notice Todd didn’t say a word about voter suppression, of course I didn’t watch Todd that much cause I could stand him.
“I guess the CW was if you repeat it often enough, it becomes reality”
It worked in 2010 – and they were hoping to achieve the same outcome with the 2012 election. Tweety’s outburst in that 1st debate was over the top and more about him and MSNBC’s agenda than it was about the President. They were going to pan the President’s performance no matter what he did. When the President did very well in the 2nd and 3rd debates, I noted the muted, tepid “praise” they gave him, along with the mild criticism of Romney’s horrible performances – which were worse than PBO’s performance in the 1st debate.
Even a couple weeks before the inauguration, Matthews was still talking about that first debate. That’s how invested he was in making an issue out of it at all costs.
Morning everyone.
Chuckie can clear up in a minute what he and Husted discussed. Apparently, Husted was not shy about running to twitter to share about his meeting with Chuckles.
Todd has yet to clarify what they spoke about. Yet he wasted no time accusing people of playing “telephone games” with Husted’s tweet.
I guess he’s waiting to hear from RNC, Karl Rove, Koch, NBC heads, etc to draft an “explanation” for his show tomorrow.
The telephone game refers to hearsay while in this age of tweets the original tweet and reply can be seen by all so changing the entire meaning as was the case in the audio passing of the telephone game does not apply. CT being a journalist used to encapsulating meaning in few words has only himself to blame if his intent was misinterpreted.
Chuck Todd is a repug shill and should be suspended or fired.
THISSSSSSSSSSS!!!
Goooood morning everyone. This is how I feel this a.m.
Mornin’ sailor!
Morninggggggg…How wonderful is that …sailor! smilin
It’s gonna be a good day.
One of my favorite plays. Saw it several times on Broadway each time with a different lead — Cleavon Little, Clifton Davis (thought he was fine!) and Robert Guillaumé. First time I saw it, my Mom and I were next up in the “will Call” line, this older lady rush through the lobby door, jumped in front of me to get change for $100 and dashed back out the door; she came back and apologized for cutting, explaining that she had to pay the cabbie — it was Helen Martin who played Idella. My Mom and I were guests of Sherman Hemsley who was a family friend that worked with one Uncle at the Post Office and hung out at another Uncle’s bar.
As I am a procrastinator, “The First Thing Monday Morning” is my theme song!
Memories and good times, eh?
Ahhh. The feel-good mood! I recognize that! What a great choice for a mornin’ song, even if it’s late mornin’ for some of us.
Good morning/afternoon, Yardarm and TODville!

I read the New Republic article…..the headline is total hype. I honestly don’t know how they thought that up from the interview…I guess it’s a way to lure readers. The interviewer’s questions were actually pretty thoughtful, and the president’s remarks were measured. That is not the impression in the headline.
you are so right Carolyn…
this is one of the pivital comments PBO made about building bridges in the struggle for gun safety regulations…
Part of being able to move this forward is understanding the reality of guns in urban areas are very different from the realities of guns in rural areas. And if you grew up and your dad gave you a hunting rifle when you were ten, and you went out and spent the day with him and your uncles, and that became part of your family’s traditions, you can see why you’d be pretty protective of that..
There was a gunshow here in Philadelphia this weekend…actually i never knew that my city hosted gun shows…Oooo weeee…
i wonder how many patrons bought guns without having to undergo background checks….
i must say that i do not know what state law is about this…
h/t Jefferson Obama
http://www.nytimes.com/2013/01/27/us/selling-a-new-generation-on-guns.html?hp
Threatened by long-term declining participation in shooting sports, the firearms industry has poured millions of dollars into a broad campaign to ensure its future by getting guns into the hands of more, and younger, children.
The industry’s strategies include giving firearms, ammunition and cash to youth groups; weakening state restrictions on hunting by young children; marketing an affordable military-style rifle for “junior shooters” and sponsoring semiautomatic-handgun competitions for youths; and developing a target-shooting video game that promotes brand-name weapons, with links to the Web sites of their makers.
The pages of Junior Shooters, an industry-supported magazine that seeks to get children involved in the recreational use of firearms, once featured a smiling 15-year-old girl clutching a semiautomatic rifle. At the end of an accompanying article that extolled target shooting with a Bushmaster AR-15 — an advertisement elsewhere in the magazine directed readers to a coupon for buying one — the author encouraged youngsters to share the article with a parent.
“Who knows?” it said. “Maybe you’ll find a Bushmaster AR-15 under your tree some frosty Christmas morning!”
Good Morning Chips and our TOD Family. I hope everyone will have a lovely day. Good thoughts going from my heart to LL and Mrs. LL this morning. Also to WesleyA’s wife. Prayers of healing for both families, I pray.
Lovely clouds and a little rain where I am on the west coast. I love this weather as long as I can stay inside.
Be as loving and joyful to each other and say a word of thankfulness for our president and family.
I am looking forward to 60 Minutes tonight. I love how POB always is a step ahead of the rascals. Our Team of Rivals showing them something, for sure. I love seeing our SOS and our POTUS together.
Bless our POTUS, FLOTUS, VPOTUS and Dr. Jill Biden and their families. Bless our SS Detail men and women. Bless the entire Cabinet and all of POB’s Advisers. Bless all of the new nominations that are set for hearings.
Give our President wisdom in all of his decisions today and the coming days. We give thanks during our meditations, morning services, and throughout the weeks for the Administration. Please bless and protect our military men and women and their families all over this world. We thank them for their service. We ask for mercy and grace to favor our president.
Be joyful TOD family and enjoy your Sun. ((((((( Lots of love to all of you)))))))))HZ
Oh, that moving song by the Children Gospel Choir that performed at the Inaugural Prayer Service that POB and FLOTUS were so moved by is called: “Determined To Go On.” It was written by Patrick Lundy and sung by him on his new album. Beautiful. My new devotional/meditation music. Very uplifting for our President. HZ
Signing in to say I may have risen, but I’m not so sure about the shining part. Good Morning/Afternoon to the shiners, and greetings to the risen! I have no idea why *I* am feeling so sleepy, especially since I checked out ‘early’ last night. Anyway, onward to see what other TODobots have had to say so far today.
VC, you know you’re good at rising & shining! Just take another peak at top photo! Yes you can! 🙂
I did peak after a second peek! 😆 😆
BTW, I liked that New Republic interview. I always appreciate seeing into the President’s mind.
DITTO….VC..
it is always good to hear what he is thinking and why …….from his own lips……. instead of hearing it from the so-called political analysts….yeah!
Chuck Todd @chucktodd
@DavidShuster @jonhusted I spoke about the issue of gerrymandering hurting Congress. Said way to fix Congress was to fix that. He agreed

Funny that Husted “agreed” when he wanted to make voting so uneven and difficult!
So they had to meet over lunch for THAT? That could have been addressed in a 2-5 minute segment on Todd’s MSNBC morning show. Chuck Todd you ain’t fooling us. Just like you didn’t fool us with your “enthusiasm gap” BS last year.
Save it Chuckie! You’ve been busted. Your history and Jon Husted’s history speak for themselves.

With the Republican Party on the ropes, attention is shifting to the Democratic response. A variety of advice is flowing in, most of it revolving around the issue of “reform” — be it reforming government to make it work better (Katrina) or reforming it to make it appear less corruptible.
David Shuster @DavidShuster
.@chucktodd I hear ya re. Still, @jonhusted used you, out of context, to boost himself. Your response/clarification was helpful. Thx.

Chuck Todd is not off the hook. And that response/clarification didn’t help either. Why didn’t he himself report on that meeting? Because he didn’t plan to. He wanted to keep it secret, but Husted outed them.
it is not so much that he met with him…it is his response to the issue of Voter Supression that is at issue for me…
Well the private lunch meeting is relevant given the both Todd’s history of failure to report on voter-suppression and Husted’s history of voter suppression as Ohio’s SOS, along with the fact that Todd did not report/tweet anything about it until confronted with demands for clarification based on Husted’s tweet.
If a FOX News journalist met privately with an NRA head to discuss “gun control” we would have the same reaction, and for all the right reasons.
hmmm….
a journalist meets with individuals when gathering information for story…… that is necessary…but now as the smoke clears it seems as if Todd was speaking at some kind of gathering of SoSs…what we do not know is if the remarks that Husted tweeted are what Todd said in his speech to the group/or the result of a private conversation/or in what context those remarks were made…all in all…it does give us all pause…to say the least…
I find it rather curious that all this info is dripping out, when Todd could have immediately clarified all of this last night when it first broke out. Instead he was being vague and evasive as possible.
I think they’ve had time to think about and come up with an “explanation” and are now putting it out there. I don’t trust ANYTHING chuck Todd or Husted say. They are both shills for the Republican party and their credibility is ZERO on matters of electoral politics.
i do not trust Todd or Husted …either…
and for those who gave Todd the benefit of doubt..i wonder how they are taking this…
I don’t trust Chuck Todd either. Seem to me he would be upset with Jon Husted for lying on him, instead Todd is upset with everyone instead of the man who tweeted about their wonderful lunch.
Fishy fishy fishy.
Chuck Todd’s full of shit. He could have clarified this immediately. The first responses to that tweet echoed what everyone has been saying all night. He said nothing. They very first response.
Exactly. And no politician has any business tweeting that a journalist “agreed with them” on any controversial and sensitive political issue – particularly when the said politician is known to have adopted highly partisan and controversial positions in recent history about the issue being discussed.
If Nancy Pelosi had tweeted that Rachel Maddow agreed with her at a meeting about abortion rights…Maddow would be disciplined or fired. Let’s be honest here.
Good for Beyonce! Tired of that manufactured poutrage.
You should have heard the response from Howard Stern that Beyonce is no better than Armstrong….same difference! WHO THE HECK MAKES HIM GOD!
Wot! He just lost his mind again! Does he have any grey matter left? Damn their false equivalence shit!
That’s completely insane.
LL & the Gentleman Trucker who’s wife is in a coma (apologies but I didn’t note your name), my thoughts are with you.
Damn, I so hate to agree w/ Piers! Gotta go & rinse my brain! LOL!
hahahahahaha…..
More idiocy from Marco Rubio. I continue to fail to be impressed with Rubio’s grasp on any significant topic. He is such a pretender.
Damn, Dotster3, I almost had a coffee spill! LOL! This is a dunce in need of a profound Dunce Hat & a chair in a far away corner. Never thought I’d go along w/ that punishment for anyone, but these idiots have driven me to empathy-free state towards them.

Right On edwina.
MSM/GOP/RW/Corporate Overlord propaganda consists not only of the lies they tell: “enthusiam gap” but of the truths they hide
.
For example—-fisrt presidential campaign 2008 had 1 million small individual donors.
In 2012 there were THREE million individual donors.
the plot thickens…now he was speaking in front of a gathering of SoS…
So why are we only NOW hearing about this?!? As a journalist, isn’t it Todd’s duty to report on these meetings? Why a private lunch meeting with “a gathering of secretaries of state?” Secretaries of WHICH states? Let’s get a roll call of all who were present at that lunch meeting.
egg.sack.lee. Who exactly were those SoS’? And why only phuck today was there ? What about the other ‘journos’ ? And why all the secrecy until husted busted today?
And WHY??? HE’S the REPORTER, not the EXPERT ON REDISTRICTING!!!
LOVED this love story. The bride, 97, will keep her name…..

Chuck didn’t have a private meeting with Husted, though. I don’t understand the outrage here.
Seems more like Husted used Chuck Todd’s comments to make it seem like he’s for gerrymandering reform when we know he is not. We remember what he tried to do in Ohio.
Karma is a bitch. When you lie with dogs you wake up with fleas. If Chuck Todd wasn’t a dishonest reporter from the get-go, people would have granted him the benefit of the doubt. But when you spend an entire year manufacturing BS stories about enthusiasm gaps, while ignoring REAL voter suppression on the other side, you have sown the seeds of a malignancy that will bloom at a time least convenient for you.
And if you notice, Chuckles mentioned nothing of the meeting prior to Husted’s tweet, and since then he has been attacking the folks on Twitter, instead of Husted for supposedly misrepresenting him at the meeting.
WE remember what Husted tried to do in Ohio. Does Chuck Todd? Chuck Todd was immediately asked to clarify his position because it appeared at first that he was agreeing with Husted’s way of “reform”. All Chuck did was clarify that he was talking about the House and not nationally. Chuck should know better.
I enjoyed the above interview. I’m anxious for 60 minutes tonight. 🙂
ALEC’s Fingerprints Are All Over the Electoral College Rigging Efforts in Blue States
In early 2010, Karl Rove laid out the Republican approach to redistricting in a Wall Street Journal article titled, “He who controls redistricting can control Congress” and his words were prophetic as Republicans held the House of Representatives despite earning 1.4 million fewer votes than Democrats. Once Republicans controlled state legislatures, they had free rein to begin redistricting to tilt elections in Republicans’ favor, and it was ALEC that provided Republican governors and state legislators with the redistricting tactic to rig Electoral College votes and guarantee a Republican will always be president….

I wonder if All the states changed their way of districting in that same way it would still tip to the GOP? Or is it only a cherry picking advantage?
I know this is o/t but has anyone here seen the movie ‘Lincoln’? I am being taken to see it next weekend as a late birthday present. I love American history and Abraham Lincoln is one of my favorite presidents (it goes without saying that my ABSOLUTE fav prez is PBO!!).
I have been lurking more than commenting lately as I’ve had a lot on my mind but I LOVED the coverage of the inauguration and associated events, Chips you are a genious, thank you.
Hopefully will be back to commenting more frequently after Tuesday. I just want to add that we are so blessed to be living in the age of Obama.
I believe that BWD and Jovie (among others) saw it and thought it was an excellent movie. I am yet to see it, but do plan on doing so.
thanks hopefruit, I cant wait to see it.
I saw the movie and absolutely loved it! Really remarkable effort, and the audience applauded at the end. You’ll enjoy it. Daniel Day Lewis outdid himself, once again.
This movie is excellent. I was so lucky….I saw the movie all alone in an empty theater, with no one around me choping popcornor texting…I was enthralled for the entire time, Never once looked at my watch, which is how I judge movies. The acting is so excellent, you really think that is Lincoln on the screen. I was a history major, but I learned new information, which I really liked. Also, Sally Field did an excellent job as Mary, and Tommy Lee Jones as Thaddeus Stevens is also superb. I see few movies, and choose them carefully. This was worth it…I went on a Tuesday evening, toward the end of the run at the particular theater which is why it was empty. I loved the private screening!
You should love it if you like history. I know I did. 🙂
Chat away, back in a bit!
