well, just made breakfast for the missus. She’s not feeling well, and is afraid she might have to go to the ER. I was hoping we’d avoid another such trip before her surgery. We still might, but we’ll see.

Yardarm, this is one of my favorite loving to make beautiful music in the one that I loved in my days. Not kidding. There is an arrangement by Quincy Jones that is so beautiful for a loving evening with candles glowing in the background, a strawberry-kiwi tray sitting on the bed with rose petals and the rain dancing around on the roof. Oh my, what beautiful times, and Mr. Q, himself smoothly prancing all over the orchestral with his beautiful arrangement always brings the evening to a beautiful joyful enjoyment of a part of life that is so lovely and wonderful. Nothing like great music in life. Just plain and simple.

Yes, put me on the Naughty Mat. I am fine with that. A lot of you are right behind me. ((Love you all))

I think I saw Quincy Jones conducting in this piece on this video, yardarm. Thank you for posting it. Brings back some beautiful memories. I love great music. Thanks for always bring the great music to our family, yardarm. Beautiful voice. HZ

Hello, Pamela. I’m trying not to get used to it so I huff and puff trying to catch up, and sometimes (more often of late) I actually skip whole sections 😯 in order to be up front with the cool kids. This action of mine of course pushes them to move faster in order to stay ahead and stay šŸ˜Ž – a never-ending exercise. You shouldn’t give up; if you do the cool kids will have no competition. šŸ˜†

          šŸ™‚ I haven’t given up, VC, just accepting of my time and place in the grand scheme of things. Working on a lot of inner dynamics at present. Seems much of it needs to progress offline. I’m with you all, but it goes more smoothly offline. Hugs all around! {{{{Chipsticks}}}}

Love Dr. Maya Angelou. I have all of her works. This is one of my favorites. Taught this one to a group in my Performing Arts Class. Then one of my school supintendents did a beautiful recitation of it at one of my African American History programs and a classroom program as well. The students loved it so, they wanted to learn it and recite it while one of my dance groups did a dance that one of student choreographers produced. It was wonderful. So this posting of Dr. Angelou brings back beautiful memories.

Thanks for posting it, Chips. Love this post. This gives so much love going out to our POTUS and FLOTUS for wanting to continue to expose our beautiful young children to the love of the Arts. Let us keep working hard to get his agenda for all people, especially our beautiful students in elementary and secondary schools. So nice and refreshing after coming off of a lovely week. We are with you, Mr. President and our beautiful First Lady.HZ

We are so blessed to be here with our Chips. Thanks so much, Chips.HZ

And this is the mammoth that the GOP will do everything to preserve while social programs go down the drain. We must give our ALL to the military and bow down before military might. I’m not a therapist, but there seems to be something deeply pathological about this.

The same people who think we need bottomless funding of the military are the same people who demand their own military assault weapons to defend themselves from the gov.

Sorry, I am late to the family, but I am enjoying all of this. I had to go out this morning and came back and then talked via phone to my best friend of 48 yrs.,who is near Pamela’s lovely part of the country; so I am slowing enjoying each comment and wonderful music by yardarm. What a way to enjoy an after-glow honoring our President. Love this also, yardarm! Thank you.HZ

Bill Clinton’s 2nd inauguration was also significantly down from his 1st, going from ~ 800K in the first to ~250K in the second. The fact that PBO’s second inauguration remained at or above 800K in the second inauguration – particularly considering how much media effort went into dampening enthusiasm for the event, is nothing short of an amazing feat.

Furthermore, in 2013, there are much more ways to access the event from the comfort of one’s living room with large screen HD TV’s, High resolution computer livestreams, smartphones, etc. There was no such competition of that kind as recently as 8 years ago. There was no YouTube or Twitter to get instant images and archived recordings. You either went to the event, or watched it on regular broadcast/cable TV with non-HD picture.

There is simply no way to spin it. This 2nd inauguration was an extremely well-received and well-attended event.

    • January 26, 2013 at 6:58 pm

His supporters expected that from the beginning.

Does anybody have a creative idea about what to name a workship/forum about how to promote political activism among Latinos? I’m trying to put together a forum on this subject for this coming April and invite people from nearby counties to talk about ways that Latinos can work together to create a political force in the community. Instead of voting every four years, vote in all elections. Instead of thinking nothing will change, work to change it. Instead of thinking that running for office is somebody else’s business, think about doing it yourself. Anyway, I’m searching my brain for a catchy title, about engaging in the public arena that doesn’t sound pompous and heavy. Any ideas? Recently some one from our community overheard a remark at our county headquarters that since Latinos don’t vote, you don’t have to go overboard to please them. This has got to change. Politicians at the national level have begun to take notice of the growing Latino impact on federal elections. It’s time for state and local governments to feel the power.

As I said on an earlier TOD thread some days ago, I suspected that this whole media ginned-up nontroversy about Beyonce’s lip syncing was really about PBO in general. Sure enough, Salon didn’t take long to prove me right with this bullshitty article.

Now that FOX News is defunct, many of these “Liberal” outlets will take up FOX’s mission to try to duplicate in 2014 what we had in 2010. But they had better think again. We won’t let them.

Yet another responsible gun owner, I see. By all means, no new gun regulations – preserve the 2nd Amendment right for a father to terrorize his daughter with a gun. These people are insane.

The reality is that if there are no regulations that the right wing and NRA think can stop gun violence, then let’s just ban all the guns. That will stop gun violence.

    • January 26, 2013 at 7:41 pm

800,000 Californians bought guns last year and Orange County is having a gun show today with record attendance. More good guys and gals buying guns only to become bad people to use against their family or others. Last night on our local news they showed how most guns are stolen by “responsible” gun owners who then resell them illegally. This is how the “bad” guy gets guns that the so-called “good” people are so afraid of….they get them from the “good” guy.

Dear Chipsticks and TOD members thank you for this wonderful place that attracts many spirited, yet thoughtful, people who love and respect President Obama, VP Biden and their families. I come to this place to learn, sometimes to passionately, argue, but most of the time because many people here inspire me. Because I love to laugh, sing and, yes still dance at my age, I am very partial to people who tell/share good jokes, love music and have no qualms letting their hair down to appreciate how it feels to be human.

Today I wanted to give a very special shout out/THANK YOU to Yardarm (fondly referred to by Chipsticks and others as Sailor) for the wonderful music he shared (as he always does) on two threads. The songs he selected were filled with love and were aimed at reminding us that it’s o.k. to appreciate life in spite of all the ugliness that we encounter. I am especially grateful that he re-shared Maya Angelou’s timeless poem: “Still I Rise!” For me, Maya Angelou’s “Still I Rise” poem beautifully captures the significance, and the essence, of the Obama presidency.

Thank you Yardarm for sharing the depth of your humanity.
