Hiya everyone, sorry I’ve only been able to drop in and out today, soooooo much to catch up on with you all. I spotted a gazillion beautiful photos from the inauguration that I didn’t post yesterday, so will try to get around to it asap. Will try to post photos and video from the Prayer Service a little later too. Talk soon!

In the newspapers of Portugal and Netherland, there are two men lurking the President from behind that I seem to recognize for their expertise at obstruction. Oh, it is Orange Man and his rival.

Blondie and Silver Fox were behind POTUS and FLOTUS at the church service too. They walked out right with them when they left early too. They do give me great security and comfort. Although, I noticed Michelle just couldn’t walk straight out….she stopped and spoke with people on her way…….she loves people and people love her.

Thanks for the great collection of headlines. It’s always great to see how the rest of the world looks at us, especially our political process.

Looks like we got a bonus from the Irish Herald. They’re headline focuses on the the President’s upcoming visit Northern Ireland in June for the G8 summit. The Kennedy family will be there during that time to open a visitor center in honor of JFK and it looks like they’re hoping the President will be apart of that. That’ll be fun to watch.

One word I would use to describe the Robinson faily is “balance.” She and her brother just have such a balanced approach to their lives, and she seems to be building this into her darling daughters too.
From what I’ve been reading in various places, Malia and Sasha were quite the stars of the inauguration events. We’ve seen the so little, and now to see these two beautiful young women emerge…..wow! They are adorable.

      January 22, 2013 at 2:08 pm

I just heard that as I was reading about that horrible shooting in N.M. where a 15 yr. old boy used his father’s guns, including the Newtown style assault rifle, to shoot and kill him, his mother, his brother and 2 young sisters. Father is a former pastor with a criminal past, guns may have been purchased by friends and given or sold to him, or purchased at gun shows with no background check required. Kid had also planned to go to Wal Mart and fire away until he was killed by law enforcement. And latest on Tx. campus shooting—-multiple people shot, college near Houston. One or more airlifted to hospital. Campus told to take shelter.
Again—-this is the most pressing issue of this time.

AMEN, sister. I just called Reid’s office. Was on hold quite awhile but was determined to not leave a message. Basically, my message to Reid was: If you don’t change the filibuster, you are, number 1, totally and completely betraying Pres. Obama and all those things you said about him yesterday meant NOTHING. Number 2, you are a coward, plain and simple. I then repeated those points and did it very firmly.

Also called Lamar Alexander’s office and said that on the face of his words–sounded good. However, a big however, they were totally hypocritical. I repeated some of his words, ie. “no mob, no coup….” Then, I talked about Jan. 20, 2009 (and pointed out that Corker was part of that meeting). I also stressed the part of his comments about “living with the results of the election” and said the R’s did not do that in 2008 and everything points to the fact that they won’t do so this time. I even talked about what is happening in the states and that in a sense, there are coups taking places…..reminded the guy how many more votes (House) the D’s got than the R’s. I pointed out that the people are not stupid……we know exactly what is happening and we want what PO talked about–unity and moving the country forward.

Police still searching for 2nd suspect, one suspect in custody. How many more times can we tolerate this? This is sick. Traumatizing students, everyone/anyone seemingly at risk at any time. Texas is a conceal/carry state. Because it loves guns and thinks everyone should have one on them at all times.

    • 89 cookemom
      January 22, 2013 at 2:26 pm

Guess those shooters didn’t pay attention to that law exception.

Hey, Republicans in Congress, how about some fucking emergency gun legislation now, today, instead of trying to take down Democrats and our President? Get your asses working for the children of America. It’s our CHILDREN in these colleges, high schools, and elementary schools. Where are your priorities? Don’t you care about our children? Have you lost your souls?

My cousin and his wife are professors at separate Texas universities – he emailed, “Yes, the shooting was on a campus about a half hour south of my campus, north of Houston. I guess it can happen anywhere.” Thank God he and his wife are okay – we lost his one and only older brother when he was 16 (back in the 1950s) to a sudden, natural death, and I’m not ready to lose any more of my wonderful cousins. Or yours.

One thing that seems to be happening is that people are starting to tally these events instead of treating each one as a discrete, independent event. Awareness is being raised, and people are becoming conscious of the big pictures. The ones that are intellectually able to, that is.

OK…I’m getting on my box….I am about as liberal/progressive as it gets for a 70 yr old…..This all goes far deeper than just guns…it goes to parenting,….or lack thereof…….parents that were reared to be intolerant and thus rear their children to be intolerant, parents that rear their children with no moral guidance, parents that allow their children to be exposed to violence in the media, parents that rear their children with out discipline, parents that have no idea what is going on with their children and their mental health…..and that’s just the tip of the iceberg….Yes, I think we need the media regulated…music, film, video games, and radio and tv…that would include Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck…Yes, I think we need gun control……but until Parents step up and become responsible…nothing is going to change….it has gone too far…..and to Congress, that includeds you too…the longer you dither the more blood you have on your hands…..If you can save 1 person from gun violence…DO IT!….tHIS IS JUST SICK!

aloha and happy hawaii morning chips and tods! beautiful day, we’ve worked so long and so hard for! pbo and veep joe taking this nation to its next level of excellence. in reading the news reports this morning, we get the clear notion that the rethugs have finally gotten the message. yes, president obama was re-elected, and by a resounding margin, and voters are still paying attention, and working with him, to move the agenda forward. it feels so good, this pride i’m swelling up with, these tears of joy and relief!

and chips, nobody, nobody has worked harder than you, every day, come what may, to keep up the momentum of support for the president and his work. thanks to you, all those who come here can share in the sense of community effort, no matter how far flung we may reside. in our various bubbles of disinformation, we’ve found truth here, and discourse, and understanding. we’ve been empowered and enboldened to speak out, to believe in ourselves, that we represent the president, and the best interests of this nation.

dear chips, never doubt that you have made a tremendous difference. thank you, bless you, love you!
