    my sister just called and asked me if I wanted 2 tickets to the inauguration. Unfortunately I have been sick with the flu so I can’t take them. I believe a TODer asked about showing up on Monday without tickets. If that person is local I could try to see if I can get the tickets and re-route them to her. I forgot who that was.

    History of Passing budget resolutions. If Republicans ever applied their own rules to themselves, they’d be in big trouble.

    1. According to the Congressional Research Service, it has been 14 years since the House, the Senate and the president have all agreed on a bill to fund the government for an entire fiscal year.

    2. During the past 35 years, the president and congress have only agreed to a “Full Budget” three times, in 1989, 1995 and 1997.

    http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2011/09/continuing-resolutions-the-new-norm/

    On the other hand, the Congressional Research Service says that continuing resolutions were used for a full year in:

    1978, 1979, 1980, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1996, 2007, 2011

    3. In other words, during the past 35 years, a full budget was only passed by the congress during the GHW Bush and Bill Clinton’s term in office. None were passed during Carter’s, Reagan’s, and GW Bush’s term.

    Number of days of continuing Resolution:

    1977 = 213
    1978 = 365 – Full Year
    1979 = 365 – Full Year
    1980 = 365 – Full Year
    1981 = 289
    1982 = 362
    1983 = 365 – Full Year
    1984 = 365 – Full Year
    1985 = 365 – Full Year
    1986 = 365 – Full Year
    1987 = 365 – Full Year
    1988 = 365 – Full Year
    1989 = none
    1990 = 51
    1991 = 36
    1992 = 240
    1993 = 5
    1994 = 41
    1995 = none
    1996 = 365 – Full Year
    1997 = None
    1998 = 57
    1999 = 21
    2000 = 63
    2001 = 83
    2002 = 102
    2003 = 163
    2004 = 123
    2005 = 69
    2006 = 92
    2007 = 365 – Full Year
    2008 = 92
    2009 = 162
    2010 = 79
    2011 = 365 – Full Year

    Bottom line is that there is nothing anomalous about the last three years.

    So I am thinking …. Monday .. the day our precious blessed President is inaugurated for the second time .. two things .. champagne and Kleenex .. now what percentage? I am thinking 10% champagne … 90% Kleenex? Yes, I am getting emotional already and we are 3 1/2 -4 days away.

      I surprisingly just started getting emotional tonight. We were all so exhausted the night of the election, we couldn’t just sit back and enjoy it. But we can enjoy the entire Inauguration weekend, because there are no more thoughts that he won’t be re-elected! Can’t wait to see everything that’s televised.

    I just want to express one small whine. I have to work Monday. I’ll do it but I’m so jealous of those who will be there in person and those who can watch all day. Now I only said that to get it off my chest and because my husband doesn’t want to hear it anymore. I will forever shut up about it and make valiant efforts on Monday evening to catch up on all the goings on. I hope those who are there in DC have the time of their lives.
    What I am hoping for is something so wonderful that will forever be a reminder of the day. Like the beautiful “At Last” dance from 2009. Beyonce was wonderful and so full of emotion and the President and First Lady were so elegant and in love. At the end when the crowd starts chanting “Obama! Obama!” I get the chills. I have watched it many times and it took about a month back then before I could watch it without blubbering.

    Also, I got my Victory magnet yesterday, after pretty much giving up on it. But now it is proudly stuck to my fridge just in time for the inauguration. Yea!!!!

    ***MSNBC Appreciation Post***
    http://www.democraticunderground.com/1251276996

    Several recent posts laud the “backlash” against the Republican Party’s hysteria over the President’s executive orders. We should thank MSNBC’s night crew for airing of the facts and playing over and over the shocking videos of extremists like Rand Paul, Michelle Bachmann, and the NRA paid mouthpieces. Nice going Big Ed, Lawrence, Rachel, Rev Al, and Tweety. The more “murcans” that click away from Fox and discover voices of reason on MSNBC the less the radical GOP propaganda will be believed.

    Almost midday Saturday in my world – as usual great positive news from the best source on the interwebs – what I have so enjoyed reading

    1. Those who would say that President Obama “wants to be King” have NO idea about the zero power held by all and any “Kings” or “Queens” in the 21st century. They are absolute figureheads. Even the lowest of do nothing goppers has more political power than the Queen of England.

    2. With Cantor’s latest release it would appear any political power the GOP should have from their majority in the house has been lost because of the stupid of the far right. The vaguely sane rump realizes they have been fighting many losing battles.

    3. Good to see the working of “free enterprise” bringing gallup to a halt due to its inability to conduct an unbiased poll.

    4. Krugman admits he got it wrong (NY times – love the kitteh)

    “A good day for sanity”

    5. Why isn’t McCain screaming about Algeria – lost his voice? I can wish.

    6. Best of the day – the Earl Smith story – what a delight.

    7. Next best Donna dem organizing the meet – so looking forward to the stories from Washington

    Plouffe and Gibbs will join Messina in the new OFA (Organizing For Action). Topics to be targeted are climate change, immigration, and gun violence. Details will be covered at the Sunday meeting with 4000 OFA supporters.

    I should have known this is waht Gibbs was up to when he mentioned OFA email list on Morning Joe earlier in the week. He said, that OFA had more people than the NRA and all PBO had to do was unleash them. That sly guy Gibbs was giving ol’ Joe a scoop, but kept the inside joke to himself.

      Good point. How I wish I could be there! I bought my bus ticket to travel from NYC to DC with a co-worker who got into an accident and is not at the hospital. And this morning, I fractured a rib!!!

      I am still hoping to go Sunday night, God willing. Being there as I did in 2009 is the tiniest thing I could do to prove my unconditional support to my President.

      I am still so grateful to God for the outcome of the 2012 elections. Thank You, Dear Lord.

      And to the TOD Family, whatever your plans, wherever you will be watching the Inauguration, enjoy. I will.

      The plan is to buy a bit of time, hope the good feelings for President Obama subside again and discontent sets in a few months from now and then they pounce…
