Be Strong

Sandy-Hook-Elementary-School-Shooting-13

Sandy Hook

Tomorrow – Wednesday – the President will announce the ‘most sweeping gun reform attempt since 1968’, so we know the level of hate and bile that is about to be spewed on him from the NRA and their supporters.

Let’s get his back, more than we ever did before.

Just finishing up my news dump! 🙂

Chair Marcia L. Fudge Recommends Cabinet Appointments to President Obama
    http://thecongressionalblackcaucus.com/2013/01/15/chair-marcia-l-fudge-recommends-cabinet-appointments-to-president-obama/

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE January 10, 2013
Washington, DC – Congressional Black Caucus Chair Marcia L. Fudge today mailed a letter to President Barack Obama recommending that he nominate Congressman Melvin Watt of North Carolina for the position of Secretary of Commerce and Congresswoman Barbara Lee of California for the position of Secretary of Labor

And why on earth would the President listen to this bunch…

Besides the fact that the President has earned the right to pick his own cabinet, this group, with its unique and historical perch, has been the biggest disappointment in the 4+ years of the Obama presidency…

The nerve of the CBC who’s been incredibly unsupportive of the President and First Lady and have actually being some of the pettiest, most self-serving, backstabbing bunch…

The same group that tried to whip up anger and tried their darndest to chip away at and separate the black community from the President…

If it were up to most in this group, President Obama would be a one term president – or never even gotten his first term for that matter…

Absent the absolutely lovely and effusively supportive Congresswoman Karen Bass and a couple of others, President Obama never had most members of the CBC on his side…or speaking up in support of him or Mrs Obama…

Actually most of them only got airtime to insult, demean and pile on on the President…

Yet here they are, making cabinet ‘recommendations’ to a President they tried so hard to undermine and thwart…

      The nerve…

I agree with you Chi! I don’t remember CBC publicly sending names to Bill Clinton or George W. Bush on who they should appoint to the Cabinet. It seems to me that CBC treats PBO the same way those invested in white privilege treat him: with absolutely no respect! Exactly when is the last time you heard CBC defending President Obama from the covert racist attacks that Gen. Powell highlighted? Somebody should tell CBC that they do not represent ordinary African Americans. When they were busy attacking the President, many of us in the grassroots refused to join them.

Remember, everybody, with all the crap that’s being thrown around by the NRA, rotten-to-the-core Republicans, and others, President Obama was re-elected to a second term by American voters. The groups that are working against him are minuscule, compared to the electorate. Those bastards get attention because they buy big microphones. WE are the President’s sound system. WE can amplify his message. Get tweeting, send emails, post on Facebook, call your congressquack and senators, call your friends. Pray or think good thoughts for him. Pray or think good thoughts for his family. And for the Bidens. That’s needed more than we’ve done before, looks like. He got through the last four years based totally, I believe, on the force of his will, and God’s good graces. He knows he wants to do the right thing for America, and for the world at large, so he just keeps going. And, Chips, nothing wrong with adding humor, please continue that, to keep our sanity.

I am a Winter Texan for the first time and went to the local humane society to volunteer in any capacity…walking, playing, feeding, laundry, etc. Before I can do this, I must go to the police dept. and fill out a form for a background check! Why are we so opposed to background checks before the purchase of a gun? Simply unbelievable that there are people who oppose comprehensive background checks.

I see it this way.. if the President can get up each day and do what he does, put up with the kooks he must (talking to you WHPC & GOP Congress, NRA).. the least I can do as a citizen is stand with him, speak up. And when the parents of these children, the ones in Sandy Hook & elsewhere… can still get up everyday after losing their children to such violence, then the least I can do is fight for whats right, so no one else will lose a child in this way.

Sherijr, thank you for expressing so well everything I feel and I am dedicated to do! More than ever, for all of us who have children, no matter what age, this is the time we must stand with the President and the Vice President. The most devastating thing that can happen to a parents is to lose their child. Even more devastating and horrific is too loose a child through senseless gun violence. As the President said yesterday, all of us should everything possible to save our children. Right now, I really could care less about the 2nd Amendment purists. I am sure the founding fathers never intended the 2nd Amendment to serve as a license to enable deranged people to kill innocent little children. If they did, then I have absolutely no respect for them.

      H.R. 2076, the “Investigative Assistance for Violent Crimes Act of 2012,” which clarifies that assistance provided by the Departments of Justice and Homeland Security at the request of State and local law enforcement officials in the investigation of mass killings and other violent acts is within the scope of Federal employment;

      H.R. 6328, the “Clothe a Homeless Hero Act,” which requires the Department of Homeland Security’s Transportation Security Administration to make every reasonable effort to transfer unclaimed clothing recovered at airport security checkpoints to local veterans’ organizations or other local charitable organizations for distribution to homeless or needy veterans and veterans’ families;

      H.R. 6586, the “Space Exploration Sustainability Act,” which extends from July 1, 2016, through December 31, 2020, authority for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration to make certain payments to Russia related to work on the International Space Station; and extends, to entities that apply for licenses in calendar year 2013, authority for the Department of Transportation to pay claims for damages resulting from commercial space launches or reentries above the amount of insurance required by Federal law;

      H.R. 6655, the “Protect Our Kids Act of 2012,” which establishes a Commission to study and provide recommendations to reduce fatalities resulting from child abuse and neglect; and extends and amends the authority of the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families Contingency Fund;

Brief description of each of the floats, which will ride down Pennsylvania Avenue from the Capitol to the White House, interspersed among a bevy of marching bands:

    • The Hawaii float, honoring Mr. Obama’s birthplace. It features a large volcano modeled after Diamond Head, on the island of Oahu, as well as a tribute to the late Senator Daniel K. Inouye, the Hawaii Democrat who died last month.

    • The Illinois float, for the birthplace of Michelle Obama, the first lady. The float includes American flags, the state flag and a panorama of its Capitol.

    • The Pennsylvania float, commemorating the birthplace of Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. It includes a replica of the Liberty Bell and the Pennsylvania state seal.

    • The Delaware float, for Mr. Biden’s home state, which includes a replica of the bell tower at the state Capitol.

    • The Martin Luther King Jr. float, which features an image of Dr. King and a representation of his quote “out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope.”

    • The civil rights movement float, which represents movements to advance the rights of immigrants, women, gay people and union workers. It includes one of Mr. Obama’s favorite quotes, from Dr. King: “The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.’’

    • The Tuskegee Airmen float, a tribute to the first African-American military aviators in the United States armed forces. The float features a model North American P-51 Mustang.

    • The “Our People. Our Future” float, which will reflect Mr. Obama’s inaugural theme.

Hey guys, so I watched the Frontline piece online and one of the guys interviewed: old, Caucasian, grey hair, short white beard, at the end says that PBO’s election victory was worse than his first, especially in light of the fact that re-elected presidents tend to do better the second time around. This is what I can’t stand. Who the fuck is he? Does he know PBO is on a very short list of presidents to win reelection with over 50% of the vote? Does he know the last democrat to do so was FDR?! Who was that dumb creep?! What an asshole. I shouldn’t have watched it, it just made me mad as hell. They didn’t even talk about the bert cert, and when they talked about that Summer and all the hatred directed at PBO, they didn’t even mention that it was anger ginned up by the Koch brothers, no talk of death panels, and how the repukes actively encouraged misinformation in their town halls, or how they didn’t even have the decency to defend PBO’s citizenship, leaving it to vague statements of , “he says he’s an American, he says he’s a Christian, oh, maybe ill have to take him at his word.” 🙄 what about the auto industry? Where the fuck was that tidbit? Fucking whitewashing of history. If you’re gonna tell the story, tell the whole ugly fucking story, even if it takes all fucking night! What about Wallstreet reform? All the narrator said was: ” the president would leave Wallstreet reform to congress.” Bullshit, if PBO had abdicated his role in that, Wallstreet wouldn’t have put out a financial hitlist on him and invested so much in his opposition. And why am I getting parts of the story about the OBAMA PRESIDENCY from a bunch of no named HACKS who wouldn’t know their asses from a hole in the ground?! Really? Bob Woodward? Jonathan Alter?! Some ass that looks like a nasty combination of Ciliza, Hayes and that other freak Ezra Klein? At one point he looked like a recently embalmed mummy– bad makeup job. I’m also sure that the president had more successes than the what? 2 highlighted in this ridiculous piece? Also, the story line should be: HUGE SUCCESS INSPITE OF HUGE OBSTRUCTION. Not: Obama came to Washington all hopey- changey and was greatly changed, being as he’s more cynical and jaundiced. 🙄 whatever the fuck ever. Complete bullshit. I wish I hadn’t wasted my time. One hour of my damned life I can’t ever get back.
Ps- NRA is completely fucked up.
Pps- sorry if it seems that I post less but with more negativity. I’ve decided that the media is bullshit and I’ve limited my exposure to it directly: not watching and indirectly I.e.: choosing to ignore certain stories/comments posted on here and just reading everything else(no secondhand contamination, thank you very much). I think this is a good strategy for my blood pressure and piece of mind. This way, I’m not constantly spewing the bile I take in. I select the ones that matter most, i infused all my frustrations about whats been happening in Washington and in the press (ie: today was the first time i looked into the diversity bullshit–yes im a week late, but hey**shrug**– then I expel all the negative energy and i move on.

      January 16, 2013 at 12:44 am

Lisa you are exactly right – and I had misgivings about this “Special” when I first heard about it. First of all, the timing is highly suspect – one week before the inauguration. None other than Sam Stein of HP was promoting it, which told me much of what I needed to know.

Then during the show, PBS tweeted a very snide and potentially inciteful comment about PBO being the only Nobel Peace Prize winner to have a “kill list” whatever the hell they meant by this. Thankfully, a whole bunch of people pushed back at their crap – which was not true to begin with. As Chips pointed out to Frontline, Henry Kissinger did not exactly have a “cuddle list” when he won the Prize.

I agree with you 100% that the media is bullshit. The “media” is 100% corporate arm of the Republican Party, and they are becoming increasingly unhinged as our President continues to defeat their Republican friends in congress and elsewhere – and I’m also including the so-called LEFT media in my assessment, not just FOX NEWS and/or Rush Limbaugh types. All of this crap about PBO’s diversity in his cabinet, his nomination of Chuck Hagel, and all of that is simply utter drivel and a damn bloody waste of the country’s time and intellectual/psychic energy.

When Jonathan Alter took it upon himself to advertise the documentary, red flags went up immediately…

I knew it was going to be nothing more than a, to borrow their own word, a seriously jaundiced piece…

This is their attempt to get out ahead of everyone and frame the president’s first term in their own petty way while denying him any real credit for all his historic accomplishments on behalf of the American people…

But in the end, they are the ones who are going to look stupid as historians and future students of politics and journalism mock this perfect example of yellow journalism and all it has come to signify in the age of Obama…

It is the producers of this crap piece and the silly, self-important contributors who will be mocked in perpetuity for this very tellingly distorted piece…

For posterity, a self-commissioned example of the greatly degraded state of our media, politics, democracy – and the shockingly hollow, mediocre, silly, self-important narcissistic pundits that drove and inflamed the madness…

      Mother, mother
There’s too many of you crying
      Brother, brother, brother
There’s far too many of you dying
You know we’ve got to find a way

      Father, father
      We don’t need to escalate
You see, war is not the answer
For only love can conquer hate
You know we’ve got to find a way
To bring some lovin’ here today

      Picket lines and picket signs
      Don’t punish me with brutality
Talk to me, so you can see
      Oh, what’s going on
      What’s going on
      Ya, what’s going on
      Ah, what’s going on

      In the mean time
      Right on, baby
      Right on
      Right on

Father, father, everybody thinks we’re wrong
Oh, but who are they to judge us
Simply because our hair is long
Oh, you know we’ve got to find a way
To bring some understanding here today
      Oh

      Picket lines and picket signs
      Don’t punish me with brutality
      Talk to me
      So you can see
      What’s going on
      Ya, what’s going on
      Tell me what’s going on
I’ll tell you what’s going on – Uh

Obama’s Press Conference, DC Priorities and Corruption
    http://crooksandliars.com/dave-johnson/obamas-press-conference-dc-priorities
    By Dave Johnson

Yesterday, the president of the United States held a press conference with the DC elite press corps. They had the opportunity to ask the president what our government is doing about the nation’s most serious problems.

There were no questions about the climate change emergency.

There were no questions about the 400,000+ Americans killed by cigarettes each year.

There were no questions about ways to get millions and millions of unemployed and hurting people into jobs.

There were no questions about what we should do about our crumbling infrastructure.

There were no questions about the huge trade deficit that drains hundreds of billions out of our economy.

There were no questions about the trade agreements that pit our workers against exploited, underpaid workers in countries where people have no say, thereby undermining our democracy, wages and middle class.

There were no questions about the government’s failure to hold banks and banking executives accountable for fraud and other crimes.

There were no questions about worsening income and wealth inequality, with all income gains going to the top 1% and the bulk of new jobs being low-wage jobs

There were no questions about the obesity/diabetes epidemic, and the possible link to corn syrup.

There were no questions about the crushing student-loan debt that holds so many of our younger people back.

There certainly and for obvious reasons were no questions about what the government is doing to fight media concentration, with most media now owned by only six giant corporations.

There certainly were no questions about how we are going to return to democracy from this corporate/billionaire plutocracy.

There were no questions about the influence of money over our government and the things we talk and even think about.

But the influence of the billionaires and their corporations over our government and our media and the things we talk and even think about is WHY there were no questions about any of these problems. The solutions to the problems are obvious, but are being blocked. We are even being blocked — by money — from even talking about the problems, never mind solving them.

    This Is Not About Ideology

Getting paid by corporations to block government action from helping We, the People but hurting corporate profits isn’t an ideology, it’s corruption.

Getting paid by corporations to cut taxes and regulations for corporations isn’t an ideology, it’s corruption.

Getting paid by billionaires to cut taxes for billionaires isn’t an ideology, it is corruption

Call it what it is, don’t launder it by calling it ideology. It is corruption.

Dear Chips – thank you so much for all you do – the power of positive thinking that you pass on every day is truly uplifting. The NRA ad attack on the President and his family is ghastly, horrible, insane and generates fear – but you balance all that out with the joy of the inauguration of this President. He is a giant among men – and you show this every day with what you write, what you photograph & with all the positive places you lead us to on these inter tubes.

Email From the DSCC (Democratic Senate Campaign Committee):

Michelle Obama’s birthday is on Thursday. And I think we can get 50,000 supporters to sign her birthday card! Will you add your name?

Michelle has done so much for our country. And I want her to know how much she’s inspired us. So let’s show her that she’s loved and appreciated with thousands of birthday wishes from grassroots supporters like you.

If you’ve been inspired by Michelle, wish her a happy birthday. We’ll pass your message along!
And remember, the special day is on Thursday — so until then, this is our little secret.

http://bit.ly/W5Ns6G [Yes, after you sign they’re gonna ask for money. Don’t worry, it’s optional.
But if you can hit with a few coins, why not?]

As a lifelong liberal, I believe in the separation of church and state in this country, and embrace believers and non-believers, alike, among my fellow countrymen and women. But, for me personally, when I see President Obama standing among children as he announces his gun control measures, I will think of how Jesus called the little children to Him and said about their innocence, “of such is the kingdom of God.” And I’ll think of my own grandchildren and great grandson, and all of our nation’s children and grandchildren, and, especially, the precious Sandy Hook children we all lost.

Goodnight, everyone. Better days are ahead and change is gonna come.

thank you for your lovely posts – I have but one wee grandchild and care so much for her and her future. She is so innocent and is surrounded by love, I cannot imagine losing her – President Obama understands that our children mean more than any “thing” that could ever exist.

I can not forget the story told about the Mother of one of the babies kill in Newtown, where the Mother wanted Governor Malley to see her son in the casket, this kid was barely six years old, from the nose up his face was his sweet little face, but below the nose this baby face were blown off. Now you tell me if there is any chance of preventing another parent from having to deal with something like that, why wouldn’t we try. The NRA leaders are a bunch of cold hearted bastards who will rot in hell. Their only concern is the sell of guns, the money.

The powerful opposition to Health Care reform lost. Those opposing the repeal of DADT lost. Those opposing the restructuring of the US auto industry lost. The powerful lobby opposing the creation of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau lost. The all-powerful Grover Norquist and his tax pledge opposing tax increases on the wealthy also lost. And those opposing immigration reform have already grudgingly accepted defeat. And although they don’t know it yet, the NRA and those opposing responsible gun laws are about to lose.

This is change. Good change. Change you can believe in kind of change.

There are lots of advantages the President’s kids have that you or mine doesn’t. But when Malia and Sasha Obama were in Chicago they didn’t have S.S. protection. You can tell that the NRA leaders have no class or dignity ( they are a pile of first class shit) when they will do what the NRA did. They know that people mean business this time and no one is going to back down to the sorry bastards, not this time. Hay NRA this movement have 20 Angels from Newtown and all over the country who have been kill through gun violence watching over it, people won’t back down to these NRA bastards, not this time.

The NRA is doing more to hurt their arguments and reinforce the need for tougher gun control laws than anyone else ever could.

exactly – bringing the President’s daughters into the discussion loses them many more supporters than it would gain.

I would imagine that the President — as would most parents — feel that it’s one thing to go after me, but to go after my children? I ‘m sure that the determination he had to get gun control legislation passed has increased 100-fold.

And I believe that the disgust that has been expressed — by Democrats and Republicans, Liberals and Conservatives, gun owners and non-gun owners — the support he will get has increased by the same degree.

gm df – I was just watching a discussion on why it is important for the victim’s families to be involved in the gun control debate – in most countries with worthwhile gun control this is how it was done. Combined with a President whose children are being attacked by the NRA, the parents who lost their loved ones are more than capable of burying the NRA. Even the media is turning – at last – to support the families – they try to talk down the President – but when he supports the families – the NRA has lost big time.

GM to you, 99ts:) I agree. The public is behind him on this…the sane ones, that is. The NRA is making itself more and more irrelevent, and they will be their own worst enemy. They will not win this fight for common sense gun responsibility.

I have trouble believing that this is happening – it is such a relief to know that 20 very young children and their teachers was just too much for the sane USA to accept. It seemed that congress couldn’t even do anything after one of their own was shot – but the push because of the children is wonderful to watch. This is one amazing President with a completely dysfunctional congress – basically doing it all. I doubt anyone will be interested in NRA ratings in future elections.

Hi everyone, I have been keeping up with the diaries but haven’t had much time to post any comments, The news out of the US has been unbelievable and has me speechless most days. I can’t wait for the announcement today as Fox has been having total fits over what they are sure the President will say and do to them.
I had to get on for sure today to pass a message on to Lib Lib as it seems they have a solution for Alzheimer’s, which he was always worried he might get one day. http://tinyurl.com/ase2skd Something already used, so safe and appears to work to clean up the deposits. Not prevention yet but repair. Good enough. Chips, if he misses this can you please pass it on to him for me? Thanks. [I know you are not busy at all 😉 ]
