Okay, but how do we see the actual Ireland video again? I’m getting a very unpleasant message saying content is being blocked. 😦

The second video with 6.45 mins. is blocked. Unable to see and I’m using firefox. Is anyone else having that problem?

Congratulations CHIPS!! I am giddy with glee for you. Wow! how impressive. Your work on display in PBO’S ancestral home. Can’t get

much better than that. And you sure deserve the kudos..

  12. January 10, 2013 at 7:47 pm

Congrats carolmaewy, Chipsticks great video. I think PBO’s trip to Ireland is still my favorite overseas jaunt.

Ok, that time where you thought there was an inside joke that everyone knew except you, but you stayed quiet….”I’m the girl w/ the red hair” So after hitting my head against the wall a few times, let me say; what an incredible honor and how amazing must it feel to have something you put together, with your thought, love, care, and effort, shared with visitors from around the world. Amazing. Congrats Chipsticks.

p.s. Maybe I should have read the caption under the video, just sayin?

It’s like that now classic movie GroundHog Day. Folks get up everyday and tune into this stuff and get the same crap. Then they go to sleep and wake up and do it all over again, different day.

I learn far more reading on my own than anything these cable channels spew.

        January 10, 2013 at 9:51 pm

Donna what a perfect analogy. I never tune in to cable news shows and find out more information through my own reading, as you do. And I keep my blood pressure down. Win /win all around and they don’t get to count me among their audience. I think a lot of us found during the campaign that most people don’t keep up with the cable tv nonsense. I rarely ran into anyone who saw or cared about anything some pundit said.

“I learn far more reading on my own than anything these cable channels spew.”

Donna dem 4 Obama, thank you for saying exactly what’s been my experience since 2010. I was so disgusted with the left and right attacks of President Obama over health care reform that I decided to stop watching the 24/7 news channels. This was my second time around. I had done exactly the same thing–turn off 24/7 cable news — during the invasion and occupation of Iraq. This gave me time to read a whole variety of Newspapers, both in print and on the internet, which gave me more sober analyses of what was going on. Sadly, the print media, like the NYT, seem intent on joining the electronic media to push headline grabbing, poorly sourced and poorly analyzed, sensational stories.

This is for the navy guy whashisname who hangs around here.

A guy was driving around the back woods of Kentucky and he sees a sign in front of a broken down shanty-style house: ‘Talking Dog for Sale’

He rings the bell and the owner appears and tells him the dog is in the backyard.

The guy goes into the back yard and sees a nice looking Beagle sitting there. ‘You talk?’ he asks. ‘Yep,’ the Beagle replies.

After the guy recovers from the shock of hearing a dog talk, he says

    ‘So, what’s your story?’

The Beagle looks up and says, ‘Well, I discovered that I could talk when I was pretty young. I wanted to help the government, so I told the CIA and they had me sworn into the toughest branch of the armed services… the United States Marines. You know one of their nicknames is ‘The Devil Dogs.’

In no time at all they had me jetting from country to country, sitting in rooms with spies and world leaders; because no one figured a dog would be eavesdropping. I was one of their most valuable spies for eight years running, but the jetting around really tired me out, and I knew I wasn’t getting any younger. So, I decided to settle down.

I retired from the Corps (8 dog years is 56 Corps years) and signed up for a job at the airport to do some undercover security, wandering near suspicious characters and listening in. I uncovered some incredible dealings and was awarded a batch of medals. I got married, had a mess of puppies, and now I’m just retired.’

The guy is amazed. He goes back in and asks the owner what he wants for the dog.

    ‘Ten dollars,’ the guy says.

‘Ten dollars? This dog is amazing! Why on earth are you selling him so cheap?’

‘Because he’s such a liar… He never did any of that stuff.

    He was in the Navy!’

/aaaand my deed of day is done.

You know amk, you keep pushing the envelop and there have been times I’ve wanted to say something. Against my better judgement I’m gonna say that you should avoid all references to the Navy. Even it I’m not “the navy guy whashisname” you are referring to, be advised that Navy in those terms is capitalized. And your sense of humor leaves something to be desired.

Having spent his first six months in the job listening to the staff and board of directors, Kim said he is taking steps to make the bank less bureaucratic. Asked by the organization’s 188-member countries to be more selective on the projects it undertakes, Kim now has to prioritize its efforts and make “tough choices,” he said.
“We can’t be all things to all people,” Kim, 53, said in an interview at the bank’s headquarters in Washington yesterday. “The questions we have to ask are ‘where are the areas in which we can add the most value, where are the areas in which we can’t add value.’”
A physician by training and the former president of Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire, Kim in July took over an institution created at the end of World War II to help rebuild ravaged Europe. Now focused on developing countries, it committed $53 billion last year on projects from building roads to supporting education policies, and has expanded its scope to taking equity stakes in companies and guaranteeing investments.

Jack Lew was Chief Operating Officer for Citigroup’s Hedge Fund section that bet against the mortgage industry that it would go bankrupt. I understand why Bernie Sandies does care for him but in my opinion you want someone who knows how these companies work from the inside. I don’t believe that Jack Lew would help his old industry but to make it work better and would know how best to regulate derivitives swaps.

Indeed – it’s exactly where it belongs. What I most love about this video is that it really captured the love of the Moneygall folks – standing in the rain and being so giddy with the Obamas. It’s one of my favourites, and I’m so happy that the Moneygall folks have been able to see it, and that it’s gracing the Obama Ancestral Home. Congratulations, Chips! Very well deserved.

California teacher talks student out of school shooting.

A teacher at a high school in California has been praised by police for averting a serious shooting incident.

The teacher and a campus supervisor talked a gunman into putting down his weapon after he had shot and injured one pupil at Taft Union High School.

Police said the gunman had enough ammunition to kill many people.

The injured student was taken to hospital in an air ambulance and is in a critical condition.

Students and staff telephoned police, but before officers could arrive, the suspect had shot at two people in a class in the science block. One shot missed its target.

The teacher, who had been grazed by a pellet, then intervened.
Map of California showing Taft and Los Angeles

He and another school official who entered the classroom are reported by US media to have warned the suspect that there would be no shooting in his class – at which point the gunman put down his weapon and police officers arrested him.

First of all, congratulations Ms. Chipsticks! Well deserved.

After reading through the last thread I realized I am beginning to be as angry with Democrats as I am with Republicans; well, almost. Isn’t the President the leader of their party? Do they understand what a leader is? I don’t mind if they disagree with him – disagree with him all they want to In Private. And if you want to name Cabinet positions, run for president and get elected. I think they must have less and less effect as they object to everything he does. President Obama must expect it by now and just discount it.

The US and Afghanistan have reached the “last chapter” in an effort to make Afghanistan secure and sovereign, the US defence secretary has said.

Leon Panetta’s remarks came as he welcomed Afghan President Hamid Karzai to the Pentagon for talks.

Mr Karzai said he was confident the two countries could “work out the modality for bilateral security” during his three-day trip to Washington.

The Afghan president is scheduled to meet President Barack Obama on Friday.

“After a long and difficult past, we finally are, I believe, at the last chapter of establishing a sovereign Afghanistan that can govern and secure itself for the future,” Mr Panetta said on Thursday.

“We’ve come a long way towards a shared goal of establishing a nation that you and we can be proud of, one that never again becomes a safe haven for terrorism.”

I don’t know that disease is affecting Ed’s and Rachel’s judgement this week. Maybe it is a new strain of flu yet to be identified. They’ve been so critical of PBO and his actions, namely his recent nominations that we don’t need the Obstructionists in Congress to do their usual destruction. I turned to C-Span that is re-playing BO’s announcement today, to listen to Tim Geithner for whom I have much admiration.

MSNBC’s rating will tank if its anchors continue in that path.

There Rachel Maddow is with her ranting and raving about the use of drones. I am so dam sick of her holier than thou attitude. If Rachel think she can do a better job keeping this country safe then get off of her freaking behind and run for office. It’s so easy sitting on tv running your mouth, but having to make tough decisions for the safety of this country is hard.
