So who comes out on top in the House Cantor or Boehner? Sounds like Boehner is taking the youngster to the tool shed. He’ll get some of Cantor’s crew to break. That’ll leave Cantor and the Teabutts out in the cold, rendered useless and irrelevant. Boehner gets to keep his gavel, Cantor learns a valuable lesson, you gotta take the head off a snake. Then there’s Ryan, Christie, Jeb, Jindal, and all the other 2016 hopefuls who’ve learned to keep their powder dry. They’re like, ā€˜wassup, did I miss anything?’

Boehner and his cohorts are not even in the same ballpark as President Obama. People are calling Cantor #1 Enemy on Twitter.

I won’t say what I thought he had on his shoulder. 😳 I don’t know, it must be the lateness of the evening – and no Chips, I do not need one of your prescription glasses!

I don’t think our markets have gone up this much in one day for the past 4 years – open for slightly less than 2 more hours – if the vote is before then could be a frenzy in the last short while. This is truly economic madness to have such violent ups and downs in any economy – my brain can’t comprehend

    • January 1, 2013 at 10:24 pm

Hi 99 – the pent-up reserves (capital seeking deployment) across the planet is enormous. Folk are desperate to see the US not adopt ‘austerity’ but to expand the ability of it’s people to generate demand. If we can just provide some ‘certainty’ that that is the direction America is taking, you are going to see an accelerating recovery.

      #FORWARD

TY Bob – your knowledge is much appreciated – our main index is now c. 4700 – In the heady days of 2007 it got to 6500 – has been a long road back – up and down between 4 and 5000.

    • January 1, 2013 at 10:19 pm

Please, Jovie – no ‘apocalypse’ is going to happen. The President will now have even more support from Americans and has all the skills and leverage he needs to steer the 113th Congress (a much stronger D Congress than the 112th, by far) in a steady direction #FORWARD.

Give your good soul a long rest from the ‘sky is falling’ stuff … take care.

      • January 1, 2013 at 10:22 pm

Someone on Twitter said that the R’s who voted for the bill would be R’s that PBO could turn to support at least some of his policies.

        • January 1, 2013 at 10:34 pm

Possibly … for sure, the dynamics in both the House & Senate are going to be very different – just imagine Warren and no Brown or Lieberman, some really cool new folk in the House and much narrower margin, the #teabaggers being detested throughout the Nation, etc …

POTUS has had to deal with from the left, the right, the media, I can’t blame FLOTUS for wanting to stay as far away from D.C. once she ,POTUS and the girls walk away from the WH for good.

Each side is given a certain amount of time (I know you know this), which they divide up, and they just keep going until the clock runs out.

Reminds me of the saying: The amount of time it takes me to do something is exactly equal to the amount of time in which I have to do it.

(I was just keeping you busy until Mr. Levin finishes, because I think he said we’ll get to the vote next. Maybe not. But first he’s standing up for the President to the dirtbag R who just put PBO down!)

    EARNED BENEFITS

Five Words and Phrases Progressives Should Never Say Again

    Posted by Jill W Klausen – (October 09, 2012)

    ———————————-

    1. Never say Entitlements.
    Instead, say Earned Benefits.

While the word “entitlement” was originally coined as a way to illustrate that the receiver of the benefits was entitled to them by having worked to earn them, or having been taxed to support them, it has been re-defined by the right as akin to a spoiled child who acts as if they’re “entitled” even though they are not.

“Earned benefits,” on the other hand, cannot be twisted or misconstrued to mean anything other than what they are: something the recipient has actually earned, as opposed to something they are being given. Social Security and Medicare are paid into through taxes deducted from employees’ paychecks, or the paychecks of one’s spouse or parent. No one who hasn’t either personally paid into these programs, or been the spouse or child of someone who has paid into these programs, or, in the case of Medicare Part B, paid a monthly premium in order to receive them, can extract benefits from these programs.

Here is a perfect example of how the right wing uses the word “entitled” as a pejorative associated with Democrats (emphasis mine):

    okay, 2 questions.
    1. What is the reconsideration? As in ‘ why is it so quiet now? Are they finished? Is it official that the House agreed with the Senate bill?

    2. If so, does the agreement mean that Boehner suspended the Hastert (majority of the majority) rule?

Motion to reconsider is a pro forma parliamentary action. Means nothing. They are finished. It is official. House has passed Senate bill. The Hastert Rule is a Republican convention that they invented to not vote on anything unless they have a majority of R votes to pass it. It was a very arbitrary practice started under Speaker Dennis Hastert.

Thanks Bill R. The “Hastert” rule always sounded a bit squirrelly to me, but I just wanted to make sure. This also has been a refresher course in civics for me.

Incredible congrats to PBO on this–for campaigning on this issue and then getting it done. And congrats as well to Joey B for using those contacts. I don’t envy either of them the next two months but hopefully the high from this will carry them through. YES WE CAN!

CNN has some bald headed rethug pundit coming out with that ‘both sides’ b.s. as a reason why this wasn’t done earlier.

I’m happy PBO left the jackals clamoring to ask questions. Wish he’d slapped the podium, too.
