Heart wrenching, even now…
“IT WAS THE WORST DAY OF MY PRESIDENCY,”…………………………………….HE SAID.
Second. Now I am going to sleep. My phone beeped and woke me up. đ
Heartbreaking. I was just going to go to bed and saw this. It’s going to be a big fight but we have to win this one. Early next year we will need to start. I saw the letter of resignation the first President Bush wrote to the NRA. Some of the things he noted that Wayne LaPierre had said were so disgraceful we need to use them. I’m too tired to think right now but we have to win this one this time. There is no room in a civilized society for this.
It is the parents who can (and hopefully will) lead this – stay away from the lawyers who would prey on them – and fight the NRA and the guns, because that is who is responsible for the gun deaths, not the schools and not the government.
In Australia it was the man who lost his wife and daughters who led the fight – he was never going to be stopped – he fought and argued with hundreds of gun owners and politicians – he traveled to get the support, he was in the news every day – and he won – even with a right wing government in power.
“It’s going to be a big fight but we have to win this one.” Completely agree. It is too important too ignore any longer.
with you on this. Common sense gun laws must be put in place.
Excellent points, one and all WOS. Right here with ya!
Yes, it has to be the parents of Newtown who lost children and whose children survived the massacre. They really need to lead the fight because not even fox news or rush limbaugh could survive persucuting them like they’ve done so many who dare tear down their rwnj institutions. We need to cut down the NRA like the right cut down Acorn.
really? this is a mighty late post! chips, are you getting warmed up for tomorrow night? đ
Hello to the nighttime crew. At least in US. đ if you are still mad at David Gregory for his terrible interviewing skills, you might try reading Jason Linkens blog at HuffPo. He puts the dunce hat on Brooks, Brokaw, Groodwin and Meachum. They are out of touch. Thanks for posting a new post diary. The last one was too long for my iPad.
meanwhile, the president has this on his plate:
‘The Yemen-based branch of al Qaeda has offered a bounty for anyone who kills the U.S. ambassador to Yemen or an American soldier in the impoverished Arab state, a group that monitors Islamist websites said.
Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) said it was offering three kilograms of gold for the killing of the U.S. ambassador in Sanaa, Gerald Feierstein, the U.S.-based SITE Intelligence Group said, citing an audio released by militants.
AQAP will also pay 5 million rials ($23,350) to whoever kills any American soldier in Yemen, it said. ‘

chips, this video is just beautiful. you do a real service with such poignant and compelling depictions of a moment in history.
10 mins before 2013 arrives here in NZ – just want to wish the TOD family a safe and happy new years!! Cheers!
A Happy New Year to you also KiwiRenegade.
Happy New Year! May it be a blessed one for you, your family and your country.
Happy New Year, KiwiRenegade.
Happy New Year Kiwi! May it bring blessings of peace, joy, and good health to you and your family!
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO OUR TOD FRIENDS ACROSS THE GLOBE!
Ms Chips the video is beautiful and so touching. Thank you. Our hearts now have to be in the fight for sensible gun control legislation.
I am worried about SOS Clinton.
So am I and many others.
Such a touching video…here come the tears for Newtown again. I agree whole-heartedly with Sunshine and 99, we MUST win this battle, for all the children, in all the states, in all the schools…for all of us really. Our future is truly at stake, and we must protect it. I am interested in hearing everyone’s ideas as to what we can do individually and together.
I have to fortify myself emotionally before I can view the video, but thanks Chips for posting it (2:47 am was the time on the email; really Chips?).
Good morning. Someone who tweets needs to go after Chuck Todd. He just said on Today that one of the failing of the WH was not developing or building a relationship w/Mitch McConnell. STUPID! Anyway to make a dig at the President. He has to know it wouldn’t matter what PO did. MM would NEVER, NEVER, NEVER have a “relationship” with this President. Tweeters—go get him!!!!
right on the case
How do you build a working relationship with someone whose single goal is to destroy you?
Lazy Punditry: MTP Panel Blames Fiscal Cliff on Obama’s Lack of “Warm and Fuzzies” For The GOP
Posted by Deaniac83
———————————
After the president’s appearance on Meet the Press this morning, David Gregory sat down with what I am going to call the lazy pundit roundtable. During that roundtable, the pundits argued, with straight face, I kid you not, that the reason we don’t have a deal on the Fiscal Cliff is because the big Republican babies in Congress haven’t gotten enough warm and fuzzies. No joke.
.
.
Right, Congress is severely derelict on its duty because the President isn’t giving them enough warm and fuzzies. Perhaps he should have invited over all 535 members of Congress on a cold DC night and shared a glass of warm milk and cookies with all of them. Then they would all hold hands with him and sing kum ba yah. FML, you know?
All of this got started when Mr. Gregory, the host, kicked off that portion of the discussion whining about the fact that the president’s side seems to be holding the media accountable for their “it’s both sides’ fault” bullsh*t.
——————————-
http://www.thepeoplesview.net/2012/12/mtps-lazy-pundits-explain-fiscal-cliff.html
I saw that Chuck Todd on the Today show this morning blaming the President because there is no friendly relationship between the President and Mitch McConnell. I email Todd and told him he is full of alot of B.S.
Doesn’t UpChuck remember that we all have video footage of Mr. McConnell saying what his #1 priority was? Does UpChuck think we’re stupid? Just as his idiot fill-in Chris Cilizza made the ludicrous claim that guns were not on PBO’s priority based on his interview with Gregory. Yet I heard PBO emphasize in the interview that something fundamental about guns has to change and he was going to work on it THIS year.
Gregory: “What is it about you, Mr. President, that you think is so hard to say yes to?”
By smartypants
———————————
I don’t expect journalists to have degrees in history. But I do think that the least we should be able to expect from someone like David Gregory is that, when interviewing the President of the United States, he isn’t completely oblivious to the recorded facts about the Republican Party’s strategy developed just 4 years ago.
And yet this morning on Meet the Press, David Gregory completely ignored those facts and asked, “What is it about you, Mr. President, that you think is so hard to say yes to?”
I’d like to recommend some reading material to Mr. Gregory. The Republican Party’s strategy since the day of President Obama’s inauguration has been well documented. But perhaps nowhere more thoroughly than by Michael Grunwald. Here’s how Ohio Senator George Voinovich summarized it:
If Obama was for it, we had to be against it.

Robert Draper Book: GOP’s Anti-Obama Campaign Started Night Of Inauguration (video)
By Sam Stein
———————————————
WASHINGTON — As President Barack Obama was celebrating his inauguration at various balls, top Republican lawmakers and strategists were conjuring up ways to submarine his presidency at a private dinner in Washington.
The event — which provides a telling revelation for how quickly the post-election climate soured — serves as the prologue of Robert Draper’s much-discussed and heavily-reported new book, “Do Not Ask What Good We Do: Inside the U.S. House of Representatives.”
According to Draper, the guest list that night (which was just over 15 people in total) included Republican Reps. Eric Cantor (Va.), Kevin McCarthy (Calif.), Paul Ryan (Wis.), Pete Sessions (Texas), Jeb Hensarling (Texas), Pete Hoekstra (Mich.) and Dan Lungren (Calif.), along with Republican Sens. Jim DeMint (S.C.), Jon Kyl (Ariz.), Tom Coburn (Okla.), John Ensign (Nev.) and Bob Corker (Tenn.). The non-lawmakers present included Newt Gingrich, several years removed from his presidential campaign, and Frank Luntz, the long-time Republican wordsmith. Notably absent were Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) — who, Draper writes, had an acrimonious relationship with Luntz.

Thanks Chips. This is the first time I have seen the video. To the person who wrote the song and put it to the video thank you from a Connecticut resident. Happy New Year to all.
As the New Year’s ball drops in Time Square, it may also signify the fall of whatver is left of the gop. these punks are crazy!
Amen to that!
Happy New Year.
Chips, you’ve outdone yourself with this video. You captured all the anguish and the utter senselessness of it all, bringing it all back again. And we need to be reminded every day so we don’t let up and conveniently forget what it’s all about because it’s too hard and we’re too busy. The day the US officially dies is when we surrender to the evil and tell ourselves that while it’s terrible, we can’t ever fix it. Thank you for reminding us that we can’t let that happen.
Morning, one and all! We have made it to the ending of 2012. Battered and bruised some of us may be, but we are here and it’s up to us to carry, and honour, the memory of those who have gone on.
Amen!
This Newtown video is another Chips Masterpiece. At once beautiful and heartbreaking. Lest we forget.
http://www.businessinsider.com/fiscal-cliff-deal-2012-12 News from this morning….the only thing that I notice, is Democrats moving on anything. Am I wrong here? Where’s the R’s sacrifices?
I don’t trust the media – they make stuff up – this is the WP comment as to how they know all this
“according to a detailed account of the Democratic offer obtained by The Washington Post,”
The WP probably got that detailed account from a GOP person
I agree – EVERYTHING from the media is suspect until proven otherwise. I will wait to hear directly from Harry Reid or the President himself.
I was finally able to watch the video. It is fitting that we be reminded of all that we have lost to fortify us for the fight to come this new year. Thanks Chips; it was haunting, yet beautiful.
Good morning TOD ohana.
Achingly beautiful video, Chips.
So true!
It’s imperative that Democrats get in tv with their messaging, because Republicans have wasted no time in getting on tv this Morning.
The Democrats are winning the argument, let’s not get complacent, call Congress again.
#Fuckcongress
President Obama made his message more than clear yesterday on MTP. I don’t need confused or mixed-agenda Democrats getting on TV and allowing the dishonest media to misinterpret their words or lead them into saying something that goes against what the President has said.
The media ALWAYS presents the Republican point of view on such matters because the MSM largely serves the interests of the Republican party and vice versa. It’s not that Republicans are better at getting their message through.
Ending the year with a nice big contract from Tunisia.
Happy, healthy and successful new year to you all and the blog tyrant.
That’s terrific amk! Good luck on the project!
Happy New Year!!
Congratulations amk and a Very Happy New Year!
Hey hopefruit, where’s the link and explanation you provided for why Pres. Obama signed an executive order raising congress’s salary. I know it had something to do with the pay freeze he put in place in 2009 but I know you also said the pay increase also positively affects federal workers and veterans?
You provided a link and an explanation on TOD a few days ago but I can’t seem to find it. Thanks.
Question is open to everyone else too.
Link to the Exec Order is in this tweet, paraphrasing a post from a previous thread. I’ll find it…
Thanks Dudette. After I posted the question, I found the link. Thanks for the response.
Okay – was just gong to look for the link but glad you got it. Thanks Dudette for responding đ
đ
He raised it for federal workers, he sunsetted it for 2013, bact 2 years ago. I guess federal workers- include congress?
Anyways, their is a movement that specifically looks for these things to scream about.
To me, it’s nothing more than a Libertarian screaming about Freedom.
sitting in the service shop of my dealership cor one last check of my car before moving to Baton Rouge.
why do auto shops assume that everyone wants to watch ESPN? it could be worse, it could be on Faux News…ugh-. thank goodness for my kindle fire and my IPhone hotspot
Hi lamh35. A fresh start for the New Year. I’m so excited for you! Safe travels on the road. Best wishes to you in Baton Rouge. Happy New Year!
Yessss Lamh….so true :). That was my reality on Friday when i got my oil changed. I was too grateful for my IPad and iPhone hotspot so that I could tune ESPN out completely.
Did you all see Senator Crocker on tv? He wants to block grant Medicaid and implement the Ryan plan or no funding of Government and no debt ceiling raised.
This is how they plan to stop the presidents agenda, every 6 months we will be arguing about raising the debt limit and funding the government. I hope the American People get sick of this and throw them out in 2014!
Senator Corker has an even more air of self importance than the average Senator. He does not seem very bright and loves the camera.
Mist Republicans are that way! I think that is what they are trained to do. The biggest perpetrator is McCain!
Part of PBO’s bigger deal was to grant the President authority to raise the debt limit without congressional approval for another 2 years beyond the 2014 election. I hope he gets it.
That would ruin their plan! Their plan us to stop the evil Obama. Yuck!
Aren’t the American People sick of this shit yet?

A ‘totally untrustworthy negotiating partner’
By Steve Benen
———————————————
Also note what this tells us about the efforts to make bipartisan changes to entitlements. As Ezra Klein explained, “Today’s Republican Party thinks the key problem America faces is out-of-control entitlement spending. But cutting entitlement spending is unpopular and the GOP’s coalition relies heavily on seniors. And so they don’t want to propose entitlement cuts. If possible, they’d even like to attack President Obama for proposing entitlement cuts. But they also want to see entitlements cut and will refuse to solve the fiscal cliff or raise the debt ceiling unless there are entitlement cuts.”
There’s a reason the parties have struggled badly to find consensus, and I’ll give you a hint: it’s not because Democrats are unwilling to make concessions.

I hear that SOS Clinton is on blood thinners which would not be given if the clot were in the brain. This according to Dr. Sanjay Gupta. Be well Madam Secretary.
Diazepam!
Meds were not identified.
That’s valium. It would be more like Heparin đ
Those shots sting like a son-of-a-b*tch….feh….
Lord save me!! This woman is basically letting her grandson be obnoxiously running around begging her for a quarter for the gum machine. She kept saying no an finally he broke her down & and she gave him the quarter. She shoulda kept saying no and told his ass sit the he’ll down. Well be didn’t like what he got so now he’s still badgering her. There is another lol child here who hasn’t said a peep. Just sitting next to his dad & not jumping all over the same furniture.
and now she’s giving him coffee! WTF!!! and now he’s complaining it’s too hot! the coffee a child should NOT be drinking g
Sounds like your morning is offering quite a study in parenting styles. I just shake my head.
seriously. I’m SMH too. the kid is getting on my nerves..lol.
I’ve always said the best birth
control is watching someone else with a “rambunctious” kid…lol
Which is why I have no children; 30 years of teaching High School students was the best birth control ever. Plug up your ears with good music from your ipod and finish your kindle novel (I do the same thing when I go to have the car serviced) and you will survive. Have a safe trip and I hope your new life is all that you dream it will be.
Rewarding bad behavior, is she? She’s created her own little “monster”. Like I always say, children are born perfect. WE screw them up!
Ain’t that the truth.
seriously. she’s the grandmother, I’m wondering if the parents are the same way with him. She rewarded the behaviour & then spent the next 20 min trying to ignore him..ugh. and the rest of us had to hear him complaining. luckily they’ve gone now
This!
Isn’t it better to wait and see what actually shakes out?
Comment meant for below re fiscal negotiations
Took me a sec, but I figured that out! đ
It’s early
As near as i can tell, the Rates are getting raised to 500k, to garner Democratic Conservative votes, like Landrieu and Pryor.
Negotiating with ourselves again.
Ugh!
Jovie – who are you listening to?
Will any of the thugs will ever get that admiration ?
Interesting as to the 2 men at the top – my favorite two – but I don’t trust gallup to add up – so who knows the real %
Yup. They even have condi and dubya and mittbot in the top ten list. /smh
Romney is the 3rd most admired man with 2%- a habitual liar who evades taxes, fires people, and doesn’t care about half the country makes the top 3 among “most admired” right below Nelson Mandela? If they want a Rethug in the top 3 by all means, there are several others like Collin Powell, former secretary Gates, etc. As others have said, I don’t really trust Gallup, but I guess reality overwhelms them at times.
Gallup, did you say Gallup. Don’t make me throw up. I don’t question POTUS being admired or even Hillary, what I have totally lost respect for is Gallup.
Finally! Something pretty and nice in Arizona!! http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2254125/I-didnt-think-like-exist-The-incredible-rainbows-spotted-Arizona.html#ixzz2GdgceA2U
Gorgeous!
Thanks, dudette! I’ve actually seen this myself. (Though not this one) Quite amazing!
Beautiful Chips! Thank you for putting that together. I am so grateful for TOD. Best wishes for a happier new year to all of the TODers. Love and peace and healing to Newtiwn.
People can be so short sighted about what really matters. In their hate for congress they’re yelling at Pres. Obama giving them a raise not realizing that he lifted a pay freeze order from 2009 so that military, veterans, congressional staffers, low level staffers, federal govt. workers etc could get baldly needed pay raises.
They go on Huff Po and other crazy emoprog websites, read the nonsense and whine and scream about Pres. Obama being a traitor and throwing them under the bus. Yes, congress got a pay raise (because they are part of the federal government) but it was a minute one. The pay raise greatly benefits everyone else who receives it. They can go out and stimulate the economy and it helps them in their daily lives. A lot of federal workers could be making more in the private sector but they instead work for the government, for long hours and crappy pay. I’m not going to begrudge them this earned income just because congress slightly benefits. If people want congress not to get a pay increase, write to them. They have the power to pass a law that gives them a longer pay freeze but I bet they won’t. Pres. Obama is not the problem here.
Hear, Hear!!
Another thing that these stupid emoprogs need to understand: Barack Obama did not personally hire congress. They are not part of his cabinet or judiciary appointments. Congress was voted in by some of the same emoprogs and their families, friends and neighbors living in those districts. So they cannot now blame Obama for the dysfunction that exists because these officials refuse to the job they were elected to do.
Exactly UT. Pres Obama is not the problem here. He didn’t choose a do nothing congress, the people did. Elections have consequences. I’m so over these fools who are too shortsighted to see the bigger picture.
This is why I get my news from TOD – everywhere else is screaming about PBO giving politicians a pay rise – sigh – it’s the media talking about “both sides” again. WHY do they continually believe the lies.
Put me in the AMEN corner on that too.
Good New Year’s Eve all you O’s!!!!! What another great getting up day in TOD town again, wouldn’t ya say? I am listening to a Xmas gift from the grandson on the PC. Got the speakers blasting. Even got Cookeman tapping a toe. It’s one of my all time favorites, by one of my favorites. I don’t know why I never bought it for myself. However, since I didn’t, it sounds all that much better now. It’s Paul Simon’s Graceland. I have more to say, but gotta dance. It’s hrad to tpye nad wihle I kcik and jmup.
Excellent music for an excellent day, cookemon!
Here’s one of my favorites tracks:
yes, it sounds better than I remembered. I’m dancing around with diamonds on the bottom of my feet, twirling around like a spinning top. I feel like the room is too small to contain me. If I keep this up, I’ll be too pooped to make it to the New Year! Zydeco, South African, and a style of music that he weaves into a storybook of how we have a commonality in understanding what is the good in us all.
Seems like the perfect tribute for our excellent Secretary of State as well! Thanks for the inspiration!
Excellent!!!!! So fitting!!!! I dedicate my dance-a-thon frenzy to SOS Clinton!!!
Good morning Chips and TOD family. It’s really New Year’s Eve, WOW. This has been a very busy season for me. Now I have to get the house cleaned and all the decorations down by Wednesday. We leave Thursday for 2 weeks and I don’t want to come back to Christmas decorations.
I am so sick of the msm. Everything is still Obama’s fault. We will keep fighting on. Thank you all for this great place and Chips that video is so moving. My heart breaks for all those families.
I read the article from Jonathan chait & what heâs said was that the WH thinks itâs the Senate Dems who would cut them at the knees to save themselves & make a deal that undercuts the WH. certain groups always complain that the admin doesnât have dem party back but rarely admit that on occasion the dems undercut the Prez
Exactly.
The changes that had to be made to accommodate the Senate dems for the health care law explains it well – too many see their well paid job as much more important than the people who elect them – which is why there will need to be a major uprising about gun control – which PBO well understands.
Unfortunately lamh36, Chait is not blaming the senate DEMS (which, based on your comment I thought he was); instead he’s heaping criticism after criticism on President Obama.
I went back and read the article, and Johnathan Chait’s entire premise is that Obama is a poor negotiator who is giving away the store. The article is titled “Why is Obama Caving on Taxes?” which already leaves the impression that the GOP are going to get most of what they want while DEMS won’t. Moreover, it’s all Obama’s fault because he has “tight-weak” negotiating style which yields the worse outcomes in any given scenario.
I’m reading the article here for anyone who’s interested in reading it, and what I see is a premature hysterical hit piece lambasting the President for something of the writer knows very little about the actual goings on behind the scenes in the negotiation process.
http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2012/12/why-is-obama-caving-on-taxes.html
Never said Chait was blaming ConservaDems. Just that he was reporting that WH feared being undercut by Senate Dems.
the reason I didn’t link the article was because I’m on my kindle at the car shop & I’m not able to link it for some reason.
u are correct though Chair is blaming POTUS.
Okay.
Is it just me? Am I the only person on the planet that has grown to hate the term “both sides”?
Nope. Everyone here hates it as well and are tired of hearing the lie.
Yardarm, it’s one of my biggest pet peeves.
It’s not just you , like you all I have grown to hate the lies the media is pushing. The reason there is no deal is not because of both sides not wanting to deal, it’s because of the radical “I Hate Obama” Republicans.
Everyone hates it including PBO who told Gregory as such yesterday. The media does this deliberately – and only when Republicans are at fault. When DEMS are at fault (on the rare occasion), the MSM has no trouble singling them out. In fact, the MSM sometimes blames Democrats/PBO when it’s the Republicans who are at fault. Whenever the MSM does the “both sides” you KNOW that the Republicans are at fault – by a LARGE, CLEAR margin.
Nope. I’m with ya!
“Spoiler alert”, “fiscal cliff”, “job creators” and “bucket list” make this year’s list of words/phrases that people want banished from the English language. I agree with yardarm and would add “both sides” to the list—–and another word I can no longer tolerate—–when someone says that someone is “rockin'” an article of clothing—-eeeeee—-way overused! I see one of my most unfaves made a past list and still is hanging around despite its banishment—-“man cave”—–ewwwwwww—-makes horrible shivers go down my back. Anyone else have personal irritating additions?

It’s so sad that WWR has to keep tweeting this to remind certain media folks and citizens alike how govt. works.
