    Classic Mark Knoller.

“All four congressional leaders have now left the WH without making any statement. Majority Leader Reid looked downtrodden”

Not a tweet about the ‘troddeness’–yes, I made the word up–of Yertle and Boehner (R-Coppertone). It’s ridiculous.

We’ll hear the President’s statement and it will be interesting to see if all the breathless reporters and Chicken Littles who claim to know what happened will come back and say ‘Breaking: we got it all wrong. Again.’

Yes, I couldn’t help but notice that the GOP, their “aides” and MSM stenographers were frantically trying to push their wishful thinking narrative ahead of PBO’s statement. That led me to believe that the meeting had not gone in the GOP’s favor as they were trying to present and PBO’s statement was going to be proof that he had Boehner backed into a corner.

Okay, I’m going to repost a simple question here because I’ve just about had it with the constant hysteria from my Twitter TL day-in, day-out, damn near every week since PBO’s re-election:

//Again I ask with extreme frustration: Why are folks inclined to believe trashy rumors about PBO’s fiscal cliff negotiations from agenda-driven media? Haven’t we seen this movie before? My friends if you are reading this comment, would you care to mount an honest response as to why you are inclined to believe certain media personalities (who represent the 1%) and not trust the President? Why does he ALWAYS have to prove you (and the media) wrong? Why not the other way around? Shouldn’t it be the media report guilty until proven innocent and PBO innocent until proven guilty – based on what we’ve known about the two parties? Please advise.//

    • December 28, 2012 at 5:36 pm

It’s a strategy from GOP, it weakens the Democrats if they can divide us. Hence, all the disinformation!
And the Left, always falls for it. Frankly, the left should never make fun of the right for being uneducated, because the Right plays the left all the time.
      Just saying!

  14. December 28, 2012 at 5:30 pm

    Congrats, Tien, on #1.

West Wing Report, a reliably neutral tweeter (aka actual journalist) has posted some great tweets in the last hour:

“President holding firm on higher tax rates for everyone $250K+, @CNBC reports. Last week, POTUS offered $400K, so a tougher line today”

“POTUS also (per @CNBC) insists on extension of unemployment insurance for 2 mil. people. Wants up or down vote, unless GOP has counteroffer.”

“It appears that if Republicans thought Pres. Obama would give in as he has in the past, they have miscalculated this time around.”

Give ’em hell, Barry. (No disrespect to POTUS intended; I pretty much worship the ground he walks on, the air that he breathes.)

As recently as about an hour ago, the likes of MSNBC and HuffnPuff’s Sam Stein, etc were pushing the same GOP nasty rumors, with certain Obama supporters on Twitter, Old Orange and elsewhere swallowing their toxic dump lock, stock and barrel.

Thank you Donna den 4 Obama, for this marvelous and righteous statement! Like you, the reason I strongly support President Obama, and voted for him two times, is because I trust and respect him. I did not vote for him to constantly tell him what do. If that’s what I wanted to do, I should have been honest enough to run for President myself. That’s why I am sick of people who claim to be his supporters, but are quick to pile on him based on media rumors.

Try not to confuse Sam Stein for either a credible journalist or a ‘progressive’…

Anyone who shills for Arianna Huffington or acts with deference and excitement sitting with Newt Gingrich, is not a voice of reason or on our side…

Sam Stein when he is on vacation from shilling for the spiteful, bitter, messy Arianna, is nothing more than a spiteful, self-aggrandizing, wannabe relevant and a D.C player – and he just doesn’t care how he gets there…

I think the idea may be that the Senate will at least put up a bill for a vote. Pressure on Boehner to do the same. If B. won’t allow a vote the whole blame is laid at his feet.

    • December 28, 2012 at 6:01 pm

He said if Reid and The Turtleface can’t get something done together, Reid should bring a simple up or down vote on the basics to the floor of the Senate to avoid a tax hike on 99% Americans. Basically, he wants Reid to dare Turtleface to filibuster.

Pres. Obama was piiiissed. I like how he shut that fool up. Who the hell talks while the president is making a statement? So basically, Pres. Obama charged Reid and McConnell to come to a fiscal cliff agreement (no elaboration on what the agreement is) and if they don’t, he’ll ask Reid to bring an up/down vote to the floor that includes middle-class tax cuts, unemployment extension, and a plan for deficit reduction.

    So far so good.

I have a feeling “Do Your Jobs” is going to be the theme of PBO’s Inauguration speech and his State of the Union. As he just said to the bozos in Congress, the people of this country don’t understand what’s the matter with you. They do their jobs. Why can’t you. Our president is not fooling around. He told Boehner he would use his two upcoming speeches to lay it on the line to the American people about the dysfunction in Congress and he just showed that he will. Good for him. I truly felt that he wanted to actually kick someone, but was too polite and too much of a statesman to do it. Wish he had.

Boner has stated, even if the senate passes something he will NOT bring it up for a vote unless it has the support of a majority of repugs, doesn’t matter if it might have the support of a majority of the house. He is worthless, worse then worthless.

I’m sick of Boehner invoking the “Hastert Rule” as a reason for not doing his job and as an excuse for his poor leadership skills. Nothing in the Constitution says anything about having to have a majority of one’s political party on board before a vote on a bill takes place.

      • 129 nathkatun7
        December 29, 2012 at 2:27 am

For the people who made such a spectacle of publicly reading the Constitution on the House floor when they took over the House in 2011, we need to ask them where in the Constitution does it say that no bill could be voted on “unless it has the support of the majority of repugs?” Obviously, this is a question that our failed media should be asking of the House Republican leadership, but especially of Speaker Boehner and Majority leader Cantor.

hmmm…now this is an incentive they can understand.

‘Politicians’ war chests could be the first casualties if Congress and the White House lead the nation over the fiscal cliff come January 1st.

A number of lawmakers, and campaign committees, already have high dollar fundraisers scheduled for the early weeks of January. But if a deal hasn’t materialized and members are stuck in DC, their wallets could end up thousands of dollars lighter. ‘

He is so excited to get his ass handed to his right wing pals. He just might start rappin when PBO finishes with him.
You do remember how Myth got so flabbergasted during the last debate, he co- signed practically everything PBO said.
At the end of the debate, I thought he was going to vote for our President.

I left a comment on the previous post before viewing the video at the top of this one. And basically I said “the media” is the problem. Our President is using this tool to educate and re-educate how slimy and vile they are. He bitched slapped the WH press corp. by not answering any questions tonight and going on MTP. He is just as sick of them as we are here and just watching how insignificant they are when he swaggered out of their evil presence. They can play “gotcha” all they want. Hey Sara Chumley Carter, you wanted me to repost the fantastic discussion at the University of Chicago Institute of Politics with David Axelrod. If anyone hasn’t seen this interview, you should. Axelrod takes us behind the scenes of Obama 2012, his relationship with Pres. Obama, how Pres. Obama has kept his promises and always fights for those who sent him to D.C. despite the whiners, many who call themselves progressives. He debunks the myth that Pres. Obama gave away the store in his first term and outlines what a second term will look like. It’s just wonderful.

At Sara’s request, I am reposting the link.

A Troll alert! Saw a couple posts on a regular newspaper opinion page and one of the trolls was twisting the invitation to the Inaugural to say Obama was so desperate to fill the seats, he had to tweet invitations. Be on alert every where you are on the Internet. Wish the retorters would go away. Glad we have refuge here.

Thank you Sara. And a big thank you to Bobfr. I did a Rt, Bobfr. I also wrote to the White House Communication Director and Press Sec., Jay Carney about the rude behavior of this bunch of disrespectful people. When the President of the United States of American has to turn and tell you that you are too loud, and while he is speaking, that is sad.

It reminded me of being in a meeting during my career and staff members would try to show this type of disrespect, and I would just shame them under their seats. Then after the meeting, I would go to them personally and tell them to Never Do That Again in my presence. In short, I did not take that crap from Anyone. These fools are going to see a part of POB that they have Not seen. Trust me. When he has been patient, respectful, listened, then you still disrespect him, he does Not Take that Crap. Trust me on this one.

Second term, come to class prepared and shut the crap up while he is speaking.HZ

Delhi gang-rape victim dies in hospital in Singapore

A female student gang-raped on a bus in India’s capital Delhi has died at a Singapore hospital, doctors say.

“The patient passed away peacefully at 4:45am on 29 Dec 2012,” a statement from the hospital said. The patient’s family had been by her side, it added. The 23-year-old had arrived in Singapore on Thursday after undergoing three operations in a Delhi hospital. The attack earlier this month triggered violent public protests in India that left one police officer dead. Six men have been arrested and two police officers have been suspended following the 16 December attack. “She had suffered from severe organ failure following serious injuries to her body and brain. She was courageous in fighting for her life for so long against the odds but the trauma to her body was too severe for her to overcome,” the statement went on. “We are humbled by the privilege of being tasked to care for her in her final struggle,” Mr Loh said. A team of eight specialists had tried to keep the patient stable, but her condition continued to deteriorate over the two days she was at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, he added. The victim and her friend had been to see a film when they boarded the bus in the Munirka area of Delhi, intending to travel to Dwarka in the south-west of the city.

Police said she was raped for nearly an hour, and both she and her companion were beaten with iron bars and thrown out of the moving bus and into the street. The government has tried to halt rising public anger by announcing a series of measures intended to make Delhi safer for women. These include more police night patrols, checks on bus drivers and their assistants, and the banning of buses with tinted windows or curtains. The government has also said that it will post the photos, names and addresses of convicted rapists on official websites to shame them. It has set up two committees – one looking into speeding up trials of cases involving sexual assaults on women, and the other to examine the lapses that might have led to the incident in Delhi. But the protesters say the government’s pledge to seek life sentences for the attackers is not enough – many are calling for the death penalty. Since the Delhi incident, several cases have been highlighted of authorities failing to respond to reported rapes. On Wednesday, a woman committed suicide in the state of Punjab, after having tried to report to police an rape which allegedly took place last month, local media reports said. At least one police officer involved in the case has been sacked, according to local officials.

Just watched the President’s comments on the fiscal cliff. While I was waiting for c-span to show it, I listened to callers comments. Where have people been? One idiot said this President only knows how to spend, that he has spent more than all presidents combined. He also complained of “entitlements.” He also complained about those on unemployment. Every word was a talking point. I was jumping up and down hoping for a dial in number. This stuff just makes me crazy. The president certainly has the patience to deal with it — I certainly do not.

GM, 99ts! Yep, the press in general is rude to PBO, especially the members of the WH Press Corps. They seem to think their job is to repeat GOP talking points on every issue. I really believe that they think that doing a bit of research and presenting bare facts would cause them some type of personal injury. If I were the Goddess of the Press, I’d pay them based on the quality of their work, and I’d be sure to pay the media stenographers minimum wage. IMO, a majority of them don’t earn the high salaries they’re paid. Luke Russert, for example, went from being an unknown to an “important” journalist whose opinion is to be respected in a matter of weeks, and he’s horrible at his job.

        Hello majiir

My first real knowledge of the WH Press was when PBO visited Australia. There were many things happening of much impact to us and at press conferences all that the US press asked about were events in the US. It was seen as very insulting to a country that had just opened its doors to a military presence from another country – not worth a question as to what this would mean to both countries.

At least I now know they are just as rude at home – not sure if that is a benefit or not.

Sadly, for the most part, the United States no longer has an independent press dedicated to communicating truthful information to the public. December 28, 2012 at 7:56 pm

I do not intend to see it. From the little that I have heard and the few scenes that I have seen, it is mostly sensationalism with stereotypes aplenty and little respect for historical fact. As an A A woman of a certain age, I have heard young people say what they would or would not do during this awful time in our history and the fantasy of getting back at the slave owner is a popular one, but I know enough about our history to know that this was unlikely. Furthermore, I am not entertained by watching movies that show how low and how violent we can be. If I want to know anything about those days, there are more authoritative sources than this. Even the title of this film is unfortunate. It reminds me of those awful Mandingo-like movies of the 70’s.

‘ A senior Senate Dem aide tells me that the fallback proposal Reid is working on would extend tax cuts on income just up to $250,000, not up to $400,000, as Obama’s most recent compromise proposal did. What this means is that if Senate Republican leaders fail to agree with Senate Dems on a proposal, the fallback plan Reid will offer will essentially rescind Obama’s offer to raise the income threshold to $400,000. ‘

The President will be forced by Reid’s obstinance to sign off on a deal that the President essentially campaigned on for 18 months–not raising taxes on the first $250,000 and having those making over $250,000 pay the a little more.

If true, the President will stall the economy of the Blogosphere Outrage Manufacturing sector, which has been hoping for a stimulus since Election Day.

One of the reporters in the front row (I think it was Major Garret) went to sit down and missed the seat and fell to the floor, while the others just gaped at him. One of the op-eds

Instead of pushing the national debate in the direction of serious systemic reform, especially of law enforcement and justice delivery, a number of opposition politicians have started an irresponsible debate on the need for the death penalty, or castration of rapists. These demands, which have had a populist echo amongst the protesters at India Gate, ignore the fact that shoddy investigation, poor forensics and misogynist attitudes among the police and even lower judiciary are the main reasons why rape victims in India do not get justice.

I don’t envy your country, amk. You have either Congress, or the batshit insane fundamentalists. Not much of a consolation to know that the US isn’t the only fucked up country in the world.

LL. One of the consolations in our country is that voter turnout is normally pretty good from 60 to 80% and people vote out non-performing governments routinely, both at state and federal level. The problem is all the political parties are corrupt to the core and so we are pretty much voting for one form to corruption to another. We used to have strong and fairly honest judiciary but even that has now become polluted with corruption.

But the younger generation are now willing to put up a fight now. So there is hope. As one journo put it, Young India. Old politicians.

This jerk is seriously on my last nerve:

    More Trouble Ahead

Haaretz reports that Benjamin Netanyahu looks poised to appoint, Ron Dermer, the architect of his campaign season alliance with Mitt Romney, as Israel’s new Ambassador to the United States.

    From Haaretz …

    1. Dermer, who immigrated from the U.S. in 1997, is clearly identified by the Obama administration as a supporter of the Republican party. His family in Miami Beach have close ties with the Bush family, particularly with former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, who’s name has been mentioned as one of a number of possible contenders for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016. 2. Aside from identifying him as a Republican supporter, many Democrats see Dermer as the brains behind Netanyahu’s support for Mitt Romney.

    [snip]

You’ll note that I highlighted that line at the end — that Dermer was apparently a major unskewer and convinced Netanyahu that Romney was going to win big. The Haaretz piece also notes that Dermer manages to be wildly more right-wing in his policies than Netanyahu himself, which is saying something — though Netanyahu’s own politics, as distinct from whatever coalition he’s running have always been a little obscure to me. In any case, it’s generally seen as a bad step to appoint to an ambassador who is seen as being openly hostile to the head of state in the home country. It sounds like another case of the profound damage Netanyahu is doing to Israel by his stance toward the country’s primary and perhaps soon only major ally.

Just to show that I’m not, in fact, the paragon of perfection you all expect:

I was going to delete 3 files. For some reason, I like using shift+delete, which bypasses the Recycle bin. Well, I did my usual, but wound up deleting an entire directory. Sigh.

But, being the librarian that I am, did some quick research, and now have a utility running which will hopefully recover the files.

Note to self: no more “shift+delete”. I can’t be trusted with that power.

I checked his twitter – why on earth does the congress keep “naming” post offices when it seems the GOP’s main aim is to send the post office bankrupt so those wonderful pillars of free enterprise can refuse to provide a similar service. Congress is truly broken when post office naming is its main function.

This is a fun read: http://www.chrisweigant.com/2012/12/28/my-2012-mclaughlin-awards-part-2/ one of those end of the year political award blog posts. Part 1 was excellent. Glad to see the “voters” get a notice for refusing to let the GOP steal their votes.

Way worse than Ryan plan holding debt limit hostage unless they get rid of the social safety net. This is what they are up to!

Jovie – the President has said he will NOT be blackmailed over the debt ceiling. The media may have forgotten this as they tell of all the dastardly things the RWNJs want to do – the people and the President do not forget. Let’s just listen to what PBO has to say & tell the media where to put the GOP b..s..

The Republicans can propose all they like and they can posture and brag and try to intimidate PBO, but they won’t succeed. He told us he would not give in to this nonsense and he has never lied to us.

I got myself a security job! I was working as a provision loader at the navy but that place hasn’t been working out too well due to the lack of hours and the issue with getting security clearance so unfortunately I had to quit the place. I will call him today as I haven’t been working there for a month and now that I am working as security I doubt that I’ll have time to go back to that place. Anyway off to work, will be back on later. 🙂
