Afternoon. Hope PBO’s visit goes well. I’m sure there are other people here, but don’t see them right now.

I’m wondering if I’m just in limbo. I barely ever post (and should be working right now). Could I have made first w/o trying? Waiting to see all the others prove me wrong.

In case anyone was wondering how the heck to deal w/that mess that is my screen name, try “M. Arachne.” I am, among other things, a weaver. The M is from my first name and the arachne is from the weaving bit.

Don’t know if anyone else has seen this: New fish named after Obama.

He already had the presidential seal. Now comes the presidential fish. Researchers have named a newly discovered species of freshwater fish after Barack Obama.

The honour may not have quite the heft of the Nobel peace prize that Obama picked up at the start of his first term. And it doesn’t convey the sheer raw power that goes with riding in Air Force One. But it does put the Obama brand on an all-American fish, and it also puts him in good company.

[Does this mean there’s going to be a special election in SC?]:

South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley (R) said Monday that she would not appoint a “placeholder” to fill the seat of Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) when he leaves in January for the Heritage Foundation.

I wonder if she’s considering it for herself? Curious.

      December 10, 2012 at 4:42 pm

she maybe worried about who ever would challenge in that seat…

      December 10, 2012 at 7:06 pm

I think it means she will be appointing someone to it who can win it beyond serving out what’s left of the Demint term!!!

A placeholder would be similar to the guy who was appointed to Joe Biden’s old senate seat. He wasn’t really interested in running for the seat but was appointed as a placeholder when at first they thought Beau Biden might run for it after he returned from Iraq!!!

Mrs. Greenspan just said Grandpa McCain wants to join the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations which would hold the confirmation hearings on Secretary of State. He loves the spotlight.

“Top officials in Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal’s (R) administration “used personal email accounts to craft a media strategy for imposing hundreds of millions of dollars in Medicaid cuts — a method of communication that can make it more difficult to track under public records laws despite Jindal’s pledge to bring more transparency to state government,” the AP reports.”

Fred (Formerly Fred) Sooooo great to hear from you. Glad you’re improving every day and hope you’re back to feeling super very soon. We’ve missed you!

I am so excited about this speech. My days without PBO’s campaign-style speeches have felt empty.

    Good Morning TOD

I wanted to update you on what the group called theaction.org is doing to promote the Presidents agenda. Please help if you can.

Phone Banks – We will be calling Democrats in Republican districts where there is a lame duck or the President carried the district. We are asking Dems to call Congress and voice their support for raising taxes on the top 2%.

Sacramento Rally for the Middle Class
Join us to rally for the 98%. If Congress fails to act before Dec 31st, every American family’s taxes will automatically go up. We want Congress to act now and extend middle class tax cuts and not put millionaires above the middle class.

    Date: Sunday, December 16
    Time: 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm
    Location: Machinist Union Hall
    49 Sunrise Blvd
    Rancho Cordova, CA 95742

We have been asked to participate in a Thunderclap What is a thunderclap – you may ask? (I didn’t know either :->)

A “Thunderclap” is a coordinated social media post intended to make a maximum impact within a social network.

What Thunderclap does is allow us to time our tweets/Facebook posts for the same moment for maximum effect within our social networks. It only authorizes the post if a critical mass of “Thunderclappers” is reached.

Woo Hoo, he went’ there. “we shouldn’t take away your right to bargain for better working conditions and wages!”

    BIG applause.

“These right to work laws…have everything to do with politics…they have everything to do with making you work for less money.”

    Way to go POTUS!!

I thought it was great! That is why I couldn’t believe Steve Kornacki when he said that they were led to believe this morning that the statement would be stronger but this would do???? What else was he expected to say? That he was going to run for MI gov to punish Synder if he signed the bill? I mean really….the President gave a strong statement that should have satisfied all progressives. Just goes to show that some folks will never be satisfied.

Thanks for posting this meta. Received the email from Stephanie Cutter this morning and called my Rep. and gave the feedback to the link that Stephanie also included in that email.

We must stay with the program in helping move FORWARD with POB in getting the job done. Keep up the great work TOD family.

Good Afternoon to my Chips and my TOD family. Doing a lot today. Made the phone calls, then went to work on getting my computer set up for person family. Stressed and gut having a party, but will put that to rest in a few hours.

How is our wonderful Fred doing? Anyone heard anymore? Still praying and meditating. I have two new fountains as gifts to myself, and they are called “restful peace.” I think of our TOD family when I pass them in the livingroom and in my Master BR. Nice to practice that lovely meditative action daily as well.

I saw his tweet too. He works for the Washington Examiner. I say it’s a case of sour grapes. People love Pres. Obama and love him even more for empowering them with the tools to fight for a fair share at the table on Capitol Hill and these so called “journalists” are mad that they no longer have a monopoly on all Americans.

If it’s so pointless then why is Byron York talking about it? Must not be that pointless. Washington Examiner is a right wing rag, right. Get use to it our re-elected President is going to go to the American people who he is working hard for. Let Boehner and his crowd continue to go to the rich who they are working hard for.

[OT, PM Carpenter on Chait’s article re: Firedoglake…]:

[…..] It was a pleasure [reading Chait’s article] simply because I don’t like FireDogLake for the same reason Jonathan Chait doesn’t like FireDogLake: It’s “committed … to producing the mirror image of redstate.com analysis in which your party can always win if it just fights harder.”

The story of PRETTY WILLIE and then seeing PBO embrace him after the speech had me crying like a baby.
TOD, I thought I was out of tears after the election. But oh no, today was so special and precious, had me
in tears all over again. PBO…what a man, what a mighty fine man. Fighting for the the everyday guy and gal.
We are truly blessed. I loved how he touched on all bases, including Union rights. The people loved it because
they can feel deep down that he is fighting for them. Four more years, lots more tears….of JOY.

Can’t wait to see pictures of him and pretty Willie together. Imagine working 60 years in one place. Thank you in advance Miss Chips.

I now know why HuffPo is such a rag. I saw a tweet by one of their “editors” miss quoted what the President said about “right to work”. She left out : “right to work FOR LESS” I was the only one that fought her. Everyone else was all over PBO on what she tweeted.

[Why do they report this stuff earlier as if it were fact? I think, McC was just trying to bulldoze his way onto the Committee.]:

UPDATE: McCain spokesman Brian Rogers writes in to say that next year’s committee assignements are not yet final and the leadership has the final say.

“Senator McCain has expressed interest in joining the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, but no final decisions on committee assignments have been made,” Rogers said.

The Biggest Political Story of 2012 http://t.co/wForh4Xv

Dan Froomkin: “Post-mortems of contemporary election coverage typically include regrets about horserace journalism, he-said-she-said stenography, and the lack of enlightening stories about the issues.”

“But according to longtime political observers Thomas Mann and Norman Ornstein, campaign coverage in 2012 was a particularly calamitous failure, almost entirely missing the single biggest story of the race: Namely, the radical right-wing, off-the-rails lurch of the Republican Party, both in terms of its agenda and its relationship to the truth.”

Senator Hatch just said that the President should repeal the death tax.
First of all- the President cannot repeal anything Mr Hatch, but their is more…
He said because the Estate Tax goes from 5 million at 35% to 1 million at 55%. He then says something extraordinary, even for Him… He said, that all Farmers in America will have a death sentence as a result of this sunshine law.
Thus, once again, Hatch proves he needs therapy!
    That is all!
