had to look him up–from wikipedia, which has much more:

‘ In a 2012 meeting of the House Natural Resources Committee, Gohmert stated his strong support of a trans-Alaskan pipeline, as a means for caribou to have more sex.[7][8][9]

According to Gohmert, “When [the caribou] want to go on a date, they invite each other to head over to the pipeline. So [his] real concern now [is] … if oil stops running through the pipeline … do we need a study to see how adversely the caribou would be affected if that warm oil ever quit flowing?” Gohmert’s comments were not favorably received by the rest of the committee; reportedly, Alaskan representative Don Young was forced to stifle his laughter in response.[10][11] ‘

A wealthy man came home from a gambling trip and told his wife that he had lost their entire fortune and that they’d have to drastically alter their life-style.

“Okay,” she said. “And if you learn how to make love, we can fire the gardener.”

I clicked on a few more of the Top Ten, and found out that Queen Ann’s convention night dress was an Oscar de la Renta – the same character who has attacked Michelle Obama on a few occasions (from her “too casual” outfit to see the real Queen, to the fact that she hasn’t worn any of his clothes). Well, I’m sure Oscar de la Renta was hoping Queen Ann would bring him in to the White House, but I bet he can now rest assured that he won’t be getting an invitation from First Lady Michelle Obama any time soon.

Ok, I’ve had a horrendous culinary night. Our favorite local Indian joint, unbeknownst to us, changed hands. It’s now a Pakistani restaurant, same name. Now, we love Pakistani food as well. But of course they have a new cook. Oh.My.God. Dinner was atrocious. We couldn’t finish it, it was that bad. We called back, and that’s how we found out about the changes. Awful. We checked Yelp, and there was a review on there from yesterday bemoaning the changes. When a Pakistani or Indian restaurant can’t make a decent chicken tikka masala, it’s not going to last long.

    Of course, I blame amk.

I’M BAAAAAAAAAAACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyone home???????????????? My ass is sore from sitting on a plane for 4 hours straight, and that was just ONE plane ride today:) To make matters worse, I had to set the teabagger straight that sat next to me on that 4 hour ride tonight!! Dear God, REALLY???? Why me? Is it because I have a big mouth I can’t keep shut? I made the man’s head spin….told him things he had no idea about….and told him to lay off the liars on the radio that he listens to everyday for his daily dose of BS propaganda. I was pointed, yet civil. Our work is never done, is it?

I missed my TOD family. The parentals have no internet….it was a long 5 days….I think I’m a little shaky…..stupid me,said that I would be back to work tomorrow…what was I thinking? I should have taken another day just to recuperate an get caught up here:) Good to be back. Oh…and I had that Key Lime Pie:)

Ouch, the republicans will jump on this like dogs on red meat. This is ten times, a hundred times bigger than “Fast and Furious”.

When President Obama talks about having to make decisions between bad and worse, this is the perfect example. When rebels are begging for help, can you say no and create a backlash of hate that will take decades to repair ? And when you say yes, how do you proceed when the rebellion is struggling and you can’t send troops on the ground ? Can you allow the rebellion to be crushed? Of course not. So you end up with very imperfect and risky solutions…

One thing that is very important to note: the NYT doesn’t give numbers. What percentage of the arms went to extremist groups ? Is it 10%, 20%, 50% , or more ?? Because the consequences, and the political fallout, are not the same.

Of course, the republicans will treat this story as if 100% of the arms went to the extremists… The emoprogs will do the same. This is going to be demagogued big time, and say goodbye to the 53% approval number for POTUS.

      • December 6, 2012 at 9:48 am

Mclame was the main one saying to arms the rebellion so I don’t thank this will hurt Obama that much.
Because you know they said he was leading from behind, and yelling for him to arms the rebellion.

gov brewery punches reporter who asks her about climate change (hufpo, but still… 🙂 )

Days before Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer (R) slipped out of her state on an unannounced weeklong work trip — reportedly to Afghanistan — she punched a reporter for asking a question about climate change, one news photographer claimed in an email to Jim Romenesko.
    ~
“Brewer took her left hand, balled it into a fist and with the back of her hand she slugged the reporter on the back of his right arm,” Claweson wrote in an email to Jim Romenesko. “Not hard, but with enough force that he spun around to see what was going on.” ‘

Anyone think she is exploring the idea of running for POTUS in 2016? Familiarizing herself with Afghanistan and upping her foreign affairs knowledge maybe for the run? She could be hilarious as a candidate on parr with Michelle Bacnman only possibly worse in that she has MANY senior moments where she cannot remember what she is talking about.

I hope the GOP (and the media) can start to take the process more seriously from now on. Running someone who is so clearly and obviously unstable and craven would just make another circus, avoiding the discussion of serious topics that this country will certainly need – and that might be their objective. Run through the primaries without any serious policy discussions and then enter the general election with nobody any wiser about their dubious and deviant plans.

here’s a lovely idea from nate silver: alaska as swing state!

‘ The state where Barack Obama most improved his performance from 2008 was Alaska. He lost it by “only” 14 percentage points this year, considerably less than his 22-point margin of defeat in 2008.

Part of the reason is that the former governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin, was on the Republican ticket in 2008 but was not this year. That probably doesn’t explain all of the shift, however.

Consider that in 2000 — also without Ms. Palin on the ballot — the Democratic nominee, Al Gore, lost Alaska by 31 points.

There are reasons to think that Alaska could continue to become more competitive in the coming years. ‘

The Senate passed a sweeping overhaul on Tuesday of the U.S. government’s wartime contracting procedures, the largest such reform in decades. Sen. Claire McCaskill’s (D-Mo.) amendment, included in the national defense bill, is aimed at improving oversight and cracking down on the rampant waste, fraud and abuse of taxpayer dollars in contracting practices.

“While these wars wind down, we can’t lose the urgency to correct these mistakes and prevent them from being repeated in the future,” said McCaskill in a statement. “Protecting taxpayer dollars isn’t the flashiest issue. But it’s a promise I made to Missourians, and it’s something I pledge to continue fighting for, with dogged determination, until this legislation is signed into law.”

Wartime contracting was not the headline issue in McCaskill’s recent Senate race, where she spoke out on the reproductive rights of women after her opponent, Rep. Todd Akin (R-Mo.), made his infamous remark about “legitimate rape.” But the topic is near and dear to the heart of McCaskill, who was previously Missouri state auditor.

McCaskill has been leading a six-year effort to crack down on wartime contracting abuses. For example, there was the $345 million spent on health centers in Iraq that went largely unused. There was also the $300 million the United States spent on building the Tarakhil Power Plant in Afghanistan, without considering whether the country would be able to afford the expensive fuel to run the plant.

      just the opposite:

‘ U.S. Special Operations Forces have a brand new home in Afghanistan. It’s owned and operated by the security company formerly known as Blackwater, thanks to a no-bid deal worth $22 million.

You might think that Blackwater, now called Academi, was banished into some bureaucratic exile after its operatives in Afghanistan stole guns from U.S. weapons depots and killed Afghan civilians. Wrong. Academi’s private 10-acre compound outside Kabul, called Camp Integrity, is the new headquarters for perhaps the most important special operations unit in Afghanistan.

That would be the Special Operations Joint Task Force–Afghanistan, created on July 1 to unite and oversee the three major spec-ops “tribes” throughout Afghanistan, which command some 7,000 elite troops in all. It’s run by Army Maj. Gen. Raymond “Tony” Thomas, a former deputy commander of the Joint Special Operations Command, and is already tasked with reforming how those elite forces train Afghan villagers to fight the Taliban. And its role is only going to grow in Afghanistan, as regular U.S. forces withdraw by 2014 and the commandos take over the residual task of fighting al-Qaida and its allies. Perhaps that’s why Academi’s no-bid contract runs through May 2015. ‘

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s (R-KY) fierce resistance to reforming the filibuster isn’t fazing Harry Reid, who insists that he will weaken the minority party’s power to obstruct legislative business with Republican support or without it.

“There are discussions going on now, but I want to tell everybody here: I’m happy, I’ve had a number of Republicans come to me and a few Democrats,” the Democratic majority leader told reporters Tuesday afternoon. “We’re going to change the rules. We cannot continue in this way. So I hope we can get something Republicans will work with us on.
