Kevin Drum (Mother Jones): Here is PPP on their finding that 49 percent of Republicans think ACORN stole the election for Obama….
This is a modest decline, but perhaps smaller than might have been expected given that ACORN doesn’t exist anymore.
…. In other news, they found that 25 percent of Americans claim to have an opinion about the Panetta-Burns plan, which they just made up. Fun times.

Charles Pierce: …. the senior members of the Republican party reminded us today that, no matter how much lipstick they slather on the pig in order to fool the more credulous members of the courtier media, the heart of their party is still black and withered and smells of death and corruption.
…. This is what prevails when you scratch down beneath the pretty surface — a party so completely fking unhinged that it thinks that a treaty on the rights of disabled people is some sort of one-world plot to steal the liberty of a third-rate moron like Jim Inhofe. …. They simply do not care. Their prejudices and their paranoia must have pride of place over any help to be given to the less fortunate among us….
…. I can hardly wait for the next Beltway hummer in which Rubio is promoted as “the changing face of the Republican party.” They can’t stand up to the lunatic base because the lunatic base is all they have.

Steve Benen: Former Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole made a rare Senate appearance this morning, sitting in a wheelchair just off the floor so that members would have to see him as they entered the chamber. Why? Because they were poised to vote on ratification of the U.N. Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities, and Dole hoped to send a message.
It didn’t work. The Senate killed the treaty this afternoon, with a final vote of 61 to 38, which seems like a lopsided majority, but which fell short of the two-thirds necessary for ratification. Eight Republicans broke ranks and joined Democrats in support of the treaty, but the clear majority of the Senate GOP voted to block it.

Bob Costas responds to Fox News attacks: “Sometimes The Quality Of The Thinking Of Those Who Oppose You Speaks For Itself.” (See video at Media Matters)

😕
Okay first?
and congrats to you!
First, you are! Congratulations on your Fresh First, maryl1 🙂
It’s hard to trust once you’ve been betrayed, you know.
Thanks 🙂
Well, it’s holding up quite well this time. The first time I got knocked out that way I was quite ‘shocked’. 😆 Persistence is the way to go, Maryl – well done!
I had actually posted another line which I don’t see accusing my computer of betraying me, not anyone here. Just didn’t want any misunderstanding!
Yes, I saw that somewhere, hence my comment. 😆
Maaaaaaaaaaary!!
WooooooHooooooo! I like that look!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Chips you’re making it really hard to concentrate on my report cards – thanks! 🙂 (They aren’t due until Friday anyway…)
Friday’s good – you have plenty of time Mary!!
It would be really funny (I have an odd sense of humour) if Pres O’s name turned up in a couple of sections on one or two of your report cards! They all get read and signed by principal/vice principal, right?
CHIIIIPS! Don’t you think it’s a bit early for the TOD snowfall? 🙄
Also, Madam Mayoress, if you have deemed it time for the TOD snow to fall (without consulting the other members of TOD council) couldn’t you at least have started it on a more Christmas-y or more seasonal post? (Am beginning to think Amk has a point with his ‘tyrant’ comments, I may have to add ‘dictator-ess’ to his list.
It is a very Christmassy day for me. I got my first Holiday card today. Guess who signed it? Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, Malia, Sasha and Bo, with a paw print! Bo was on the cover, in front of the White House on a very snowy day! Very nice photo. So it’s Happy Holidays to everyone here. So proud. You can make a difference even if you live in WY. Making all those calls to CO helped turn it blue.
I saw that earlier and tried to control my jealousy. /gulp/ I can so see why you are feeling so upbeat and Christmassy.
Thanks for holding back! {Smile }
😆 😆
Are you signing Carols? (Smile x 2)
Not yet! Too soon, IMO.
Glad you held back (Smile)
Haha! That would be funny! My principal is a moderate Republican who is disgusted with his party. He hated Romney and feared Ryan. I have no doubt he voted for our President! And with the way the Republicans are trying to tear about our public education system, I’m pretty sure he’s voting Democrat from now on!
“President Obama would be proud of your child’s progress” “President Obama suggests your child spends more time reading at home.” Great!
Congrats on being #1
If he has a sense of humour, you could enter such a comment on your last report (having a real report for said student at hand, of course) and submit it. Would be a way to check if he reads them all before signing. [Don’t listen to me, Maryl. I tend to (sometimes) be a trouble maker much like my sister, Chips.]
You really ARE a trouble-maker, VC… tsk, tsk. 😉
Not at all, Theo; only thinking to brighten the principal’s boredom at having to read all those ‘smarmy’ comments, some of them couched in flowery language that does not at all describe the student’s progress/performance.
Mmmm-hmmmm…
Really. The presence of the President’s name in that medium could snap him out of a zombie state that occurs when you are doing the same thing for a long period. He might even thank Maryl. 😆
Congrats on 1st Mary!!
Or are you lying AGAIN, computer????
aloha chips and tods! 🙂
That and this,
Close. Congrats maryl1
Thanks!
I want to believe she is in rehab for alcohol dependency. She looks like a functional alcoholic. Just saying.
You know what?… That’s might not be that far off the mark. But can you detox from alcohol in a week? 🙂
She also acts as one with her anger.
The senate “hedge hogs” are a batch of ‘mofo’s’! I guess no one in their states has any disabilities. grrrr! 😦
I’m with you, yardarm. GOP coddles the rich, screws the vulnerable. 😡
They underestimated us though. The disabled aren’t voiceless anymore. Like John Kerry tweeted earlier today: “We will keep fighting till we win for disabled, vets cc”
https://twitter.com/JohnKerry/status/276033324571582465
It’s breathtakingly shocking that they would vote against a disability bill and this just proves that there are no moderates in the GOP. They cite Rubio and Coburn as sane forward thinking faces of the future. Nope. They all reside in the cavemen era.
They would be in a cave by themselves too. No communal group would have them. 😦
I saw this link in one of the comments at JuanitJean’s site and wondered if anyone here collects White House Christmas ornaments
http://www.whitehousechristmasornament.com/
Evil. Just Evil. Period …
If they are willing to block a treaty protecting the disabled, then you can just imagine how much more harm they are going to try to cause if they are not rendered truly the minority party in Jan 2013 and kept that way for a long, long time.
Exactly! These people have no honor and they have no interest in doing ANYTHING to help people other than their rich benefactors.
The senate voted 61 for and 38 against, yet the bill failed to pass. The Minority is ruling the Majority, they get what they wanted. This is not Democracy.
THIS!
Exactly.
Treaty always required 67 votes or 2/3rds vote.
Oh, I know that jovie – the point I’m trying to make is that Senator Reid must change the filibuster rules because if that many Rs are willing to vote against something as profoundly just as this treaty – i.e., something that should have passed with 0 Rs voting against it, just as the DoD bill did today – then it is obvious they are going to be just as obstructive as they have been since 20 Jan 2009.
Thissssssssssss!!!
Hey, it’s snowing in here! Beautiful Chips!
Yikes, I just awarded Bob the snowy award, but you were the first to notice, eagle-eyed Dudette:
Thank you for my pretty puppy! Isn’t he the most adorable thing? Yes he is… yes he is! Here boy! 🙂
Bo is so precious.
A-hem! Ahem! Yo-ho, Mayoress! Hell-ooo there Ms Chips!! Did you see my comment at #11 above? Sure it has the same time stamp, but ……
Ah ha, just saw it now. Hang in there VC, democracy is about to leap in to action.
Hey VC, I missed that! Welcome to the 7:00 club! 🙂
Thank YOU! Wasn’t it great how many of us noticed and commented right away? Chips really needs to get a more precise timer attached to comments. 😉 😉
/whisper/ BTW, want to chip in and help get Ms Chips new glasses?
I heard that.
So your hearing is better than your sight? That’s good….and reassuring. Means you’re not all falling apart.
I see Chips is in the Holiday snow storm spirit 🙂
You win the snowy award Bob, the first to notice!!
Actually, I better switch it off now, when I turned it on last year it mucked up the blog for a bunch of people whose browsers couldn’t handle it!!
AHEM! *cough, cough* Might you turn your attention to the timestamp on my music video?
😀 😀 😀
May you look for my post about getting a Holiday card today on an earlier post. Think it was under the Bloomberg heads up post. About 1:45pm ET! (Smile)

What does the card look like? I haven’t received mine yet 😦

Glad you mentioned this too: “Yes he does thank his volunteers. Those many calls to CO helped turn it blue. We’re out of reach in WY. Not to brag too much, but he also called volunteers, including me, from Air Force One, just to encourage all of us in the last few weeks of campaign and what his vision was for his second term. Relating this because so many posters on other sights and pundits say he never thanks anyone and doesn’t reach out to people. I’m as ready to help now as I was in June when I started making calls…”
It has Bo on the front on a really snowy day in front of the White House. Very much like the photo of the Pres and girls just posted above.
😀 😀 😀
Great picture! Thanks Chips.
Ah, yes, I remember last year’s ‘snow storm’ did cause some disgruntlement 😉
Ohhhh… I see my prize. How could I have doubted you! 😀
I wish it didn’t cause technical issues. It felt like Christmas for a minute there, Chips (hailing all the way from California here)… 😦
Theoooooooo. Okay, I’ll use to until someone tells me it’s blowing up their computer. But, well, is it not a little early?? 😕
Thanks! It’s never too early for a snowy Christmas! 🙂
Easy enough for you to say, Theo, from way over and down there in Cally-fornie. After all, you won’t have to shovel the stuff! Snowiny Christmases still work if the snow falls on December 24, which is my personal preference.
You’re perfectly welcome to stock up the fridge, put the fireplace on, and hole up inside for the next three weeks! Problem solved.
That’s definitely my personal chosen response to winter – a very sensible response I’ve always thought! However, can’t hole up inside much as I would like to, because I’m suddenly being called to work more frequently. I was in today, and they have already called me for tomorrow (couldn’t even wait until morning to do so). I got called three days last week too, so you see all these southern prayers for snow, snow and more snow are of concern to me. If I could work a deal where I ship it all to you prayerful southerners with a special delivery fixed up for LisaLoves, I would have no complains. So, go easy on the prayers, snow is mostly pretty when you can admire it and then ignore it.
Just think – all those extra dollars will make the inauguration trip all that more delightful! 🙂
😉 😉 The only reason I am not complaining (except about potential snowfall).
Busted!
The cranky old Senator has whipped himself into a lather over Susan Rice’s televised statements about the attack on the Benghazi consulate, accusing her of misleading the public because she did not immediately cite al Qaeda or a planned terrorist attack. She made those statements on September 16. And yet on September 22, McCain himself voted for a resolution that described the affair thus:

Repubs being hypocrites is par for the course.
Senate passes $631B defense policy bill 98-0
By Jeremy Herb and Ramsey Cox
The National Defense Authorization Act passed the Senate unanimously after being debated for five days.
I thought Ayotte was planning to add some nonsense about Gitmo?
Did not pass.
Excellent – she has no influence, despite what the media wants people to believe. There was a headline a few days ago saying that she offers an “influential” voice for the GOP… Not very influential.
I see it’s starting to snow. Ho, ho, ho. Merry Christmas. There. I said it.
Ho, ho, ho yerself Yardarm! Actually, this is way too early …. it still feels like April. 😕
It’s never too early to bring up some good spirits. 😀
Agree 🙂
It just ain’t Christmas until somebody plays Nat! Thank you yardarm! Sets the mood very nicely! 😀
You’re welcome counselor.
I love the snow falling down on the new post. Nice Touch.
This site never stops from creating little ways to keep it especially interesting and of course exciting.
With Love, by Chipsticks, no doubt.
I am tickled pink again.
During Spring, some Green Leaves? During St Patrick’s Day, Green Beer or the little Green people that Amk loves so? I love the snow. It is just lovely. Snow flakes next? Just lovely.
Where is this snow on my keyboard coming from?
Magically engineered by Ms. Chipsticks. Are not the snow just a lovely touch? I love them.
Ah no Nena, I can’t claim I engineered the snow!!! 🙂 It’s a feature WordPress provide this time of year!
Would it all right if I just continued to believe that Your Lovely fingers engineered the snow fall? I enjoy it better that way. May I, pretty please…..? Thank you in advance…..hmmmm. OK.
Bo…..playing in the Thick snow is just lovely. Just beautiful.
Can’t go wrong with Frank! I had such a crush on that man when I was little.
Not me. I had the hots for Julie London.
😉
Ooooo Chips. Shiver me timbers! You just hit ALL me switches! 😀
Thank you.
I can hear your timbers shivering from here, Yardarm!!!
Sorry. I didn’t know they were that loud. 😆
They’re so loud I’ve had to put these on, Yardarm:
WHATEVER!
Wondering when the #NEWSTAINERS, pundidiots and emoprogs are gonna realize that PBO hasn’t even begun to bring the hurt to them that he is now fully empowered to do. Never forget, the sequester is the law of the land …
#FORWARD
Loving the snow, Ms Chips!! Please keep it coming!
But andogriff, can we cope with that snow for, like, a whole month? Confession: It’s making me a bit dizzy. 😕
I feel a TOD poll coming on – democracy rocks (so long as it goes my way).
sign me up with the pro-snow faction! 🙂
Can you make it cold too?
😆 😆 Jovie, just close your eyes and imagine this is your house:
See? It works 😎
🙂
Admit it Jovie, you’re FREEZING now!
I am always freezing, I got my ac at 69.
🙂
I’m a freak Jovie (shut up Amk), hate heat, love cold!
Peeps who turn green in cold are freaks.
Let it snow! 😀
Snow! Snow! Snow! Frosty needs a new pair of shoes.
I find it extremely interesting that basically all these folks calling for snow live in the ‘south’! I suppose it’s a good thing I have already had my snow tires installed in case their ‘prayers’ are heard. 🙄
democracy rocks (so long as it goes my way).
Don’t you mean ‘our’ way, as in yours and mine?
Do I sense traces of the Rethug virus still in your system, Chips dear?
What’s with this “democracy rocks (so long as it goes my way)” business?
I voted YES on the poll!!! And now you have the snow coming down through the comments, brilliant!!! : )))
Good West Coast late afternoon Chipsticks!
I just logged on and haven’t had a chance to read or see anything….but THE SNOW!!!!
WHOOOO HOOOOOOO!!!!! Thanks for letting it snow again 🙂
Now, I’m off to see and read…..bbl

The Colorado senator acknowledged the difficulty he’ll face in protecting the Democratic majority.…
“The Obama Coalition is composed primarily of moderates and liberals, with slightly more, 42%, identifying as a moderate and 40% as a liberal. Another 14% call themselves conservatives,” Third Way says.
“According to our poll, nearly three-fifths of the president’s support came from self-described moderates and conservatives.
“This breakdown tracks closely with exit poll data, which shows that 42.7% of Obama voters were liberal, 45.6% were moderate, and 11.8% were conservative.”

Olive Garden’s parent company is the latest to learn that it does not pay to mix politics with business:
“The restaurant company that owns the Olive Garden and Red Lobster chains said Tuesday that its bottom line is suffering in part because because of opposition to President Obama’s health care law.
Darden Restaurants has rejected the requirement that employers provide health insurance to full-time workers and said it would cut employees’ hours to dodge the mandate under the Affordable Care Act, The Hill notes. That would force low-paid part-time workers to buy their own insurance or be covered by government-run exchanges staring in 2014.
Darden was just ranked among the 12 biggest companies paying workers the least.
The company cited several factors for a steep drop in business and earnings during the second quarter, including “financially stretched consumers,” failed promotions, Hurricane Sandy and the purchase of Yard House. But it also noted a possible backlash from Americans boycotting its 1,994 restaurants.

A lady who was known as Churchill’s main rival in parliament was giving a speech. Churchill, with his usual enthusiasm for his rival, dozed off while the lady was speaking. She stopped her speech and awoke Sir Winston by yelling, “Mr. Churchill, must you sleep while I talk?” Churchill sleepily replied, “No, ma’am. I do so purely by choice.”
