No surprise – to us …

““They remain in the same place: They expect taxes to go up on the wealthy and to protect Medicare and Medicaid benefits,” the attendee added. “They feel confident that they don’t have to compromise.”

White House officials also signaled in the meeting that they are going to insist that Republicans agree to resolve the need to raise the debt ceiling as part of the fiscal talks — and won’t abide a separate fight over it, attendees said. Also key: Attendees got the impression the White House does not view this looming debt ceiling battle in the same terms as the 2011 fight, where Republicans had the leverage.

“They don’t seem to have the same fear now,” the attendee said. “They intend to get this wrapped up in these negotiations, and don’t intend to have a separate fight. Their position is this needs to be resolved all at once.””

altho PA went for the President by 11 points…because of gerrymandering most of the Congressmen that were elected were GOP…so we have our work cut out for us..but we have to remind those Repub voters that their taxes will go up too….

[Foxistan shows us yet another effer! Bob shines a light]:

129 Bangladeshis were recently killed after a fire tore through a factory that crafted garments for Wal-Mart. And to most people this would be a horrible thought, but to Fox Business host Charles Payne, these are just the growing pains of capitalism.

[From Payne]: “Don’t think that the people in Bangladesh who perished didn’t want or need those jobs, as well. I know we like to victimize everyone in this country, particularly when it comes to for-profit motivation, which is being assaulted. But, you know, it is a tragedy but I think it is a stretch, an amazing stretch, to sort of try to pin this on Walmart. […]

“Walmart had its problems and they have come a long way and I think they will continue to do well and improve in any area that they can. I’m not here as an apologist for Wal-Mart, but I am here as something of a spokesperson for capitalism and the American dream and I think for a lot of people this is a step in the right direction.”

‘a step in the right direction’ ????!!!???

wal mart squeezed its suppliers, which squeezed its manufacturers, which squeezed its workers– squeezing profits out at each step, and ultimately squeezing the very life out of the communities of people who have no other job options.

this is so disgusting i can hardly bear it. don’t hang it on walmart, or on bain capital, or on the koch brothers–not their fault if people are so desperately poor, and jobs are so degrading and dehumanizing, that their only option is to risk their life for a few pennies a day.

Goood Day to all you O folks! Wassup on this great getting up day in TOD town? Soooo, Dr. Rice was in the hot seat today, or so McPruneToon and the Grahamcracker thought. You’d think they’d know by now that PBO doesn’t surround himself with dummies. He is a master tactician and I can’t for the life of me don’t know why that hasn’t sunk in yet. Here we have Dr. Rice offering to meet with the very same people who are dissing her credentials and qualifications…..hellooooo. They agree to meet, she admits to being wrong (so they say), yet they still continue to dis her. They have been set up to commit the biggest PR fail, since the backwards B incident. The more they talk, the more it’s apparent that they are after yet another AA and female in PBO’s cabinet. I hope they continue with their caveman rantings right up til PBO nominates someone for SOS. Nothing like trying to win back the independents in time for the 2014 mid-term elections.

Here’s to our very own TODdy Fred, who will have a great outcome post surgery. May your recuperation be swift and comfortable.

After all the many times I’ve seen this picture it’s just clicked that PBO is out there in all that water, all by himself, and there are no (pool) walls of protection! And where is his life jacket, I ask you? In my mind, this is as bad as him running down those plane steps! Someone should (like one of those ‘PBO shoulds’) talk to the president about taking these risks. 😉 😉 BTW: You wouldn’t catch me in that little itty-bitty excuse for a kayak or whatever it is if you gave me Mitt’s $10 000 check and it was certified!

Harry Reid puts his finger on the ‘nuclear option’ button
    By Greg Sargent

So here’s today’s update in the slow, inexorable march towards filibuster reform: Democrats took yet another step in the direction of changing the rules by a simple majority vote — i.e., exercising the dreaded “nuclear option.”

For the second straight day, Harry Reid and Mitch McConnell traded sharp barbs on the Senate floor over what now looks to be inevitable. The key to today’s exchange was that it focused specifically on the nuclear option. Reid lambasted McConnell for a newly unearthed quote from 2005 in which McConnell endorsed — in principle — the right to change the rules by a simple majority vote; McConnell hit back by saying Republicans ultimately decided against taking the plunge.

The tit-for-tat aside, what really matters is that Reid stepped way out on a limb in the direction of exercising that “nuclear option.”

[…] Either way, what happened today is that Reid, in effect, put his finger on the nuke button. It’s hard to see how he pulls back now.

[The Endgame! From this morning’s meeting at WH]:

Indeed, one person at the meeting — which included people from the AFLCIO, AFSCME, SEIU, MoveOn and others — came away convinced that the White House would ultimately prove willing to go over the fiscal cliff if necessary, rather than give ground on core demands, though this is not by any means a desired option and isn’t being discussed as a strategic possibility.

The attendee tells me the White House is cool to the idea of going over the cliff, but added: “Would they if it’s between that and compromising their core principles? I was left with the impression that they would.”

“They remain in the same place: They expect taxes to go up on the wealthy and to protect Medicare and Medicaid benefits,” the attendee added. “They feel confident that they don’t have to compromise.”

“Grover Norquist’s Budget Is Largely Financed by Just Two Billionaire-Backed Nonprofits”

Grover Norquist’s iron grip over much of the Republican Party is somewhat puzzling. Why should Senators and other lawmakers listen to a guy caught laundering money for Jack Abramoff?

The disclosures show that only two billionaire-backed groups have provided over 66 percent of Norquist’s funding:

    • The Center to Protect Patients Rights donated $4,189,000 to Americans for Tax Reform in 2010, 34 percent of the group’s budget that year.

    • Crossroads GPS donated $4,000,000 to Americans for Tax Reform in 2010, 32.46 percent of the group’s budget that year.”

    [On the debt ceiling]:

“I think honestly it’s going to be closer to $4 trillion when it’s all said and done, and I also think that the President isn’t going to sign off on any agreement that doesn’t include some certainty as to budgets, appropriations, dealing with our debt ceiling,” said Senate Dem Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) after a policy speech at the liberal Center for American Progress. “We’re not going to find ourselves at some big party celebrating in February and then turn around in March and have another doomsday scenario with the debt ceiling. We’ve got to get this done as one big package.”

It’s not just Durbin. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) also said the debt ceiling must be included in any deal, and White House officials told representatives of major unions and progressive groups this morning that President Obama will also insist on a debt-limit increase as part of the fiscal talks — and will not accept a separate fight on just this issue.

In the likely to move camp:

Deputy Secretary of State William Burns may be nominated to succeed Rice as US ambassador to the UN, officials said.

Deputy Secretary of State Tom Nides is being mulled for a White House job, possibly White House chief of staff, which can put his knowledge of budgets to work, as well as his relationship with Congress and Wall Street.

NSC economics senior advisor Michael Froman is likely to move, possibly to become US Trade Rep.

Deputy Energy Secretary Dan Poneman is also likely to move, possibly for a White House/NSC job, or US Trade Rep.

Vice President Biden’s national security advisor Antony Blinken is likely to get a promotion, perhaps to deputy secretary of state.

President Obama welcomed Mexico’s president-elect, Enrique Peña Nieto, to the White House on Tuesday for the first meeting in what both leaders said they hope will be a productive relationship.

“We meet early with the president of Mexico because it represents the close relationship between the U.S. and Mexico,” Obama said in the Oval Office as he met with Peña Nieto, whose inauguration is on Saturday.

Obama praised the Mexican leader’s “ambitious reform agenda” and said he looks forward to working together on border security and trade, among other issues.

Vice President Joe Biden will be leading the U.S. delegation to the inauguration, something Obama stressed is a sign of how critical the relationship with Mexico is. “We only send the vice president to inaugurations when the country is really at the top of the list in importance to us,” he said.

Peña Nieto told Obama he hopes to work together to create jobs and to finalize the process for Mexico to join the Trans-Pacific Partnership. The start of his term just as Obama begins his second term is “a great opportunity for us to have a greater link of brotherhood, of sisterhood, of collaboration,” Peña Nieto said.

The Mexican president-elect also backed Obama’s efforts at immigration reform. “We fully support your proposal,” he said. “We want to contribute. We really want to participate with you, we want to contribute towards the accomplishment … so we can participate in the betterment, in the well-being of so many millions of people who live in your country.”

Peña Nieto also invited Obama to return to Mexico — he was last there in June for the G20 Summit in Los Cabos. Obama said he looks for “any excuse to go to Mexico, I’m always game.”

And, he added, “In fact, I’m jealous of Joe Biden.”

Blessings. Love. Light. All will be well. And you’ll probably have more fun with your recovery/meds, and people loving you, taking care of you, even from afar, than all of us combined – since we have to worry about you while it’s going on, and have no access to the morphine drip – if you get one.

I remember, during a recovery (since I literally broke my ass while dancing-seriously-I fell out of a flying split-badly….) that Meerkat Marathon was on A&E on my hospital TV….. and I’d fall asleep into my morphine dreams, and wake up at the very same place in the program 3 hours later, since they repeat everything for the Pacific Time Zone…. it was awesome-I never missed any part of it. It was like MAGIC! 😀 😀 😀

      • November 27, 2012 at 6:04 pm

Right?? And of course the vast majority of all the election day rejected “provisional” ballots now being counted were from Dem voters. Asshole Ohio SoS. We need to find the best Dem candidate in the entire US and if he/she doesn’t now live in Ohio, move there and run to get this Jon Husted criminal out of a job in 2014.

Delurking and late to the prayer line… but it’s never too late! May God be at the head of the surgeon’s team and work His miracle for you through them. May God bless your surgeon’s hands. May God bless you, lessen your pain and speed your healing Fred…. And so it is.
