I vastly prefer it when he plays basketball. But that’s just me. Don’t begrudge him the fatoldwhiteman game….

OK, that was snarky, stupid and uncalled for. All kinds of folks like golf. My bad! I’ve been in banking for years and always REFUSED to do the “golf thing”. PERSONAL PROBLEM!!

    • November 24, 2012 at 8:41 pm

Me too Magapie, but part of me wants him to play golf every second day for the next four years, just to wind people like Knoller up!

      • November 24, 2012 at 8:44 pm

ya I rewtweeted him earlier w/ a photo I feel dirty for doing it, forgive me hope I inspired this post in some weird way…….

Chipsticks, I love your mischievousness! Why not! President Obama can play all the golf he wants if that’s what relaxes him. Let Knoller spend all his time counting how many golf games the President plays. No one cares; at least not me. After all, Knoller, who is basically lousy at real journalism, seems to be doing the only thing that he is somewhat good at: twitting about the number of President Obama’s golf outings.

      • November 24, 2012 at 9:35 pm

Golf is grounds for divorce, unless it’s my POTUS, who is the only man alive who looks sexy playing it.

        • November 24, 2012 at 9:36 pm

          I would NOT disagree Tally!!!!

          • November 24, 2012 at 10:18 pm

I do disagree! My hubby hates exercise just for exercise : had a gym membership for a year and went about 4 times, so I encourage him to play golf. Yes it is expensive and takes time but, he gets his socialization (plays with our son and friends); gets outdoors; and even if he uses a cart he gets some walking in!

    • November 24, 2012 at 8:43 pm

Me too. For some reason he doesn’t look as impressive on the golf course as he does on the basketball court. I think it’s the hat.

I’d say it’s all of the above……I think golf is mainly a game for”networking” another word I dislike……however, ‘ve noticed that the game sees to relax the president, and he needs this. Also, it gets him outside, where he does like to be. So glad we have him for for more years!
OT….we had a great Thanksgiving: Thursday with our daughter, her husband and his family, then Friday went to Texas to our son’s, and his family for another Thanksgiving dinner. We feel so blessed to have two children who have truly grown up and taken responsibility, and still like to have us around! That is the greatest gift possible.
Blessings to all of you on this blog, and to your loved ones.

          • November 24, 2012 at 8:59 pm

That’s so true. This summer I had an opportunity to visit my daughter in France. I was there for three weeks, and we had a wonderful time sharing this experience together. It is a blessing. This Thanksgiving my son and daughter were both home and came over for dinner and hanging out in the evening. I am blest. Today daughter and I celebrated small business day by shopping at a local yarn store, and buying wonderful Michigan-made yarn.

LOL. Perfect Chipsticks. You know I was wondering if anyone watches CBS News because I never see anything that Mark Knoller has done. Does he actually do any TV reporting on CBS or are they fine with paying Cranky just to tweet useless crap?

    • November 24, 2012 at 8:49 pm

I was wondering exactly the same thing, Forus. He flew to Asia on PBO’s trip …. what did he actually report? Is he CBS radio, or what??

I’m really kinda hoping we won’t have to see tweets by this knoller person for the next four years on this lovely blog, it would be so so good just not to see them!

      • November 24, 2012 at 9:04 pm

RIght? Why would he haul his tired carcass around the world just for a few dumb tweets? I’m gonna go do some Googling to see if he produces any useful reporting for the Columbia Broadcasting System. BBL.

        • November 24, 2012 at 9:06 pm

“Why would he haul his tired carcass around the world just for a few dumb tweets?”

          πŸ˜† A damn good question!

          • November 24, 2012 at 9:19 pm

ok well I see he is too busy tweeting crap to update his CBS bio:

After serving three years as Assignment Manager in the CBS News Washington bureau, Knoller was assigned to the White House, where he covered the last year of the George Bush Presidency and every day of Bill Clinton’s. In fact, he has logged more miles covering President Clinton that any other member of the White House press corps. He is now covering the presidency of George W. Bush.

back to investigative work….what does Mark Knoller do to earn a CBS paycheck?…

              November 24, 2012 at 9:50 pm

“…what does Mark Knoller do to earn a CBS paycheck?…”

Answer: spend time on the calculator calculating how many times President Obama has played golf in the past four years and how many miles he has flown. That’s worth a salary of 6-7 figures.

              • November 24, 2012 at 9:52 pm

Honestly Nathkatun, that just about sums up his contribution!

                • November 24, 2012 at 10:03 pm

WIth my Knoller-worthy investigation complete I discovered that he doesn’t do anything but tweet and very, very infrequently write something for CBS (actually co-write so not sure that any of it is his).

Couldn’t find any video of TV reporting – perhaps there is some that wasn’t worthy of the internet but could really only find his occasional question at the WH Daily Jackal briefing. In these he has a terrible whiny voice that wouldn’t be suitable for radio or tv, So basically it IS just Twitterville; the guy is “livin’ large” at CBS based on what tangible evidence of recent work.

Oh btw, did you see his bio I posted above references “currently covering GWB”? Wow, too lazy to get his bio updated. Isn’t that a cardinal sin in Knoller’s trivia world?

                  • November 24, 2012 at 10:08 pm

Forus, that’s all I could ever find on him in the past too, other than mentions of CBS radio. The occasional CBS website ‘report’ and tweets. That’s it. I don’t know when I last saw him on TV. Anyone??

The only time I ever saw Markie on TV was at the White House Correspondents Dinner. He was arriving before the cameras via the DOWN escalator (go figure). Ol’ Markie was carrying an umbrella, looking for a friend. Any friend. Maybe your friend. Big neon arrows were pointing toward him with the word “Dork” flashing over his head. (I think I made up that last part; everything else is true; I swear it; you believe me, don’t you?)

              • November 24, 2012 at 10:04 pm

Probably the only person at CBS who knows how to use a calculator … πŸ˜‰

                  November 24, 2012 at 11:03 pm

Bob, now I understand why Mark Knoller is paid so much to calculate trivial things like how many times the President has played golf. It must because in the past, and I suppose currently, not many CBS reporters knew how to use a calculator. If I am not mistaken, I think Mark Knoller is the first WH reporter in history to be obsessed with keeping statistics about how many times the President has played golf, as well as how many miles the President has logged in his foreign trips. Welcome to the 21st century US mainstream media reality: No presidential activity, no matter how trivial, (other than policy that impacts the lives of people) is immune from meticulous scrutiny.

i was surprised that rachel maddow made special mention of him in her thanksgiving show–she thanked him effusively for all his informative tweets. she said journalists thrive on bits of detail, which he constantly provides. how many miles did pbo fly? what was the flavor of pie he bought? and just how much does pbo play golf? not useful to us, but useful to his constituency, other journalists.

Doesn’t she realize they couldn’t allow the massive crowds in this campaign. He’s the president. Security probably wouldn’t allow that many people that close to him. Everyone had to be screened before they were allowed within the paramater. She should know that.

I haen’t said much about Messina until now. Mostly because he went to work for Sen Baucus and I felt he was selling out to the DLC and corporations. I wasn’t sure how he would do when he went to work for PBO. But he has made us Missoulians proud! He attended the University of Montana and his first job was helping our best mayor get elected I knew he had gifts.I still have a problem with the way OFA treated Montana. But he was the right person to lead our PBO to this election. This is a great article in our local paper. He has made us all proud!.

That segment was a thing of beauty and should be required viewing for all of the lazy media stenographers obsessed with McCain. It was quintessential Rachel. A total and complete indictment of her colleagues in the mainstream media. The video clips of McCain were brutal. Unfortunately, the mainstream media has fluffed up John McCain for years and given him deference he did not deserve. They should be embarrassed, but you can bet that John McCain will continue to spring up like a rabbit on the Sunday morning talk shows because they know he will bash President Obama about (fill in the blank). The lack of journalistic integrity is really astonishing.

The man immediately leans out of his window and replies, “B****!”

I love the Obama/golf photos. I know how he loves it. He’s been going full tilt for so long—–a 24/7 schedule that would completely crumple mere mortals. So whenever he can escape for a bit away from the pressure and the cameras—–he is more than deserving, and I celebrate that fact. And that ol’ Knoller is keeping track makes it even more delicious. Obviously Knoller has been hired by CBS to count presidential golf outings and food items bought and consumed.
Uh oh—-mr. dotster just walked by and caught me gazing at the Obama golf photos and wondered aloud if he should gather up his golf photos—-also a golf nut—– so I could stare at them lovingly too—–and if I would be the same amount of starry-eyed. πŸ™‚

I read an interesting musing today about the pundit class being wrong on the election coverage. They had nothing to lose and everything to gain by keeping up the appearance that Willard was winning. They knew they would suffer zero consequences, which is true, and if he did, by chance, actually win, they had all positioned themselves to be in his good graces for promoting him. Win win from their standpoint. Hate to turn that schadenfreude Santa present into reindeer poop, but I think this idea is on the money.

Yes, Tien Le, I think that analysis (“musing”) is right on the mark! Witness how they (the pundits) have seamlessly continued their relentless attacks on the President while minimizing his historic win. As our Bobfr says, It’s now up to us to be the alternative media that spread the TRUTH to counter the anachronistic mainstream media punditry that are plainly TRUTH challenged.
