Hey Chips Chica, am I to assume you have finally taken our advice to rest your fingers ankle today? Good Gurl!

Hellooooooo Aunty VC! Fingers well rested today, excellent advice as ever 🙂

😆 😆 I’m glad to hear you are rested and actually feel quite proud of you!

BTW: Aunty VC? While I’m not averse to being ‘auntied’, do you think you could add ‘YOUNG’ before that? The title paints such an old picture of me otherwise that it shouldn’t be left unattended.

Woot! Great minds. Looooove Rahm “Rahmbo” Emanuel. He’s so bloody wonderful on Sunday news shows. He doesn’t pause to take a breath or allow the useless MSM to interrupt him with their talking points. He was fantastic throughout the election cycle.

I have two prevailing thoughts about today … one: McCain has to be taken down/out. Seriously, he must. Second, I am now scared to death that the prevailing “sex scandal” has now reached the White House just (so far) in the sense that the players in this sordid affair have been to the WH and recently? Why? What is happening? Can (we) not have at least four years to just work together on this country without drama of this sort?

daisydem, let’s not worry about nothing. Explain to me how it has reach the WH and why it concerns you. I don’t get it.

      • November 16, 2012 at 6:48 pm

That cow from Tampa was found to have visited the White House 4 times during this administration. Seriously…people lost their jobs at Wonder Bread and innocent people are dying in Palestine to prop up the chances for re-election for Bibi. Those are very real problems.

    • November 16, 2012 at 6:46 pm

Think about all the *real* bad stuff this President has had to deal with in the previous 4 years and ask yourself if any of this even remotely rises to that level for one, and if the President can handle it? Based on his past performance, I’d say: He’s got this and any other damn thing that comes down the pike.

    • November 16, 2012 at 6:48 pm

Let’s remember, until the scandal unfolded, Mrs Petraeus was personal friends with the Kelley’s and had been so for several years. Given her various roles in supporting military families and the enormous commitment to that endeavor the First Lady and Dr Biden have made over the past 4 years, it would not surprise me that that is at least in part why they had access to the White House – they were attending various functions as supporters of military families. Also, 1000s of people attend events at the White House every year.

        November 16, 2012 at 6:58 pm

Bob, it lower level than that — she was visiting a WH staffer (military staffer that had previously been stationed in Tampa); never had dealing with PBO, VP, FLOTUS, SLOTUS, or executive staff. Had a couple of meals in the WH Mess w/her MilStaff friend. No big deal.

Except that she somehow weaseled her way into talks/briefings re. Pakistan and Afghanistan. On what basis was she qualified for that? Great parties for the military brass? And 3 visits? or 4? That’s ridiculous. That’s not just a courtesy tour. That staffer showed really poor judgment and allowed himself to be conned. Was she emailing him too? He should be gone.

Oh sorry—you’re right—–it was Broadwell. Don’t know why she qualified to sit in on foreign policy meetings either, other than her close—ahem—- relationship with Petraeus, which shouldn’t have qualified her for that kind of policy briefing either. I heard today that she had fudged—-overinflated her resume—-never got her PHD etc.—–which she has been including in her lists of —uh—accomplishments. These gals are something else. The Kelley gal was emailing the Tampa mayor saying she was just coming from breakfast at the WH, trying to make it sound like it was something it wasn’t—–and that everyone there was really tense before the election, like she was besties with everyone there. Piece of work.

In talking with my daughter who is working in Germany at present I found out she was shocked by the affair business. She went to grad school in Denver with Paula Broadwell and they have been good friends. Paula is very accomplished and has worked in high level government. It is too bad she got involved in the affair as my daughter says she has a wonderful family. When I heard my daughter talk about her and her involvements in charity work and her career I saw a different side of the picture. My daughter is not a bad judge of character. Not trying to tout Paula Broadwell here but saying there are different perspectives on things.

Shrewd lady. She has shown through this election that she is capable of interviewing someone trying to spin and able to trap them in their own words time and time again.
Seems to me the GOP is setting traps both ways at all times. Using a timeline to criticize if info is not put forth soon enough and again if the info is wrong and has to be adjusted.
What I would like to know is who did he think had better information to present on the Sunday talk shows? The information was still coming forward and the President does not do Sunday talk shows. PBO and SOS Clinton were too busy trying to find out what was happening to take time for the shows.

Chips – some excellent Steve Benen here ….

Petraeus takes the wind from conspiracy theorists’ sails
    By Steve Benen

    Fri Nov 16, 2012 4:04 PM EST

In the week since former CIA Director David Petraeus announced his resignation, the right has come up with a variety of colorful conspiracy theories, all of which have been debunked. Was his sex scandal hidden from public view to boost President Obama’s re-election prospects? No. Was the White House blackmailing him? No. Did he step down to avoid congressional testimony on Benghazi? No.

But over the last day or so, the right has stumbled upon a new micro-scandal: the original CIA draft materials referenced specific suspected terrorists, but their names were removed and replaced with the word “extremist” in the final draft.

“A ha!” the conspiracy theorists proclaim. “This proves Obama’s people hid key details! It’s clear evidence of … something!” It’s really not.

She’s probably trying to smooth the waters so that her precious other son can begin his doomed presidential campaign. Unless he’s going to follow Jermaine Jackson (I mean, Jacksun)’s lead, then he might as well abandon those plans. If this country nominates and elects another Bush – especially one who wants to deny any culpability for his brother’s actions – then… I don’t know.

Oh dear – LOL! I used to crave twinkies about once a year, and I just had to have them. I’d get a little pack of two, and love them. Then, when I saw some program about how they took days to dissolve in some solution, and how they basically have a shelf life of “forever”, I never touched one again. That’s not food. That’s something else, entirely. But, I still do crave them every once in a while…

Time for a break and a weekend laugh. Some more e-mails

    Subj: Twenty Dollars

On their wedding night, the young bride approached her new husband and asked
for $20.00 for their first lovemaking encounter. In his highly aroused
state, her husband readily agreed. This scenario was repeated each time they
made love, for more than 40 years, with him thinking that it was a cute way
for her to afford new clothes and other incidentals that she needed.

Arriving home around noon one day, she was surprised to find her husband in
a very drunken state. During the next few minutes, he explained that his
employer was going through a process of corporate downsizing, and he had
been let go. It was unlikely that, at the age of 59, he’d be able to find
another position that paid anywhere near what he’d been earning, and
    therefore, they were financially ruined.

Calmly, his wife handed him a bank book which showed more than forty years
of steady deposits and interest totaling nearly $1 million. Then she

    showed
him certificates of deposits issued by the bank which were worth over $2
million, and informed him that they were one of the largest depositors in
    the bank.

She explained that for more than three decades she had ‘charged’ him for
sex, these holdings had multiplied and these were the Results of her savings
    and investments.

Faced with evidence of cash and investments worth over $3 million, her
husband was so astounded he could barely speak, but finally he found his
voice and blurted out, ‘If I’d had any idea what you were doing, I would
have given you all my business!’

    That’s when she shot him.

You know, sometimes, men just don’t know when to keep their mouths shut!

Women are like phones: They like to be held, talked to, and touched often.
But push the wrong button and you’re a$$ is disconnected!

Just saw the clip from Morning Joe where Christie said Romney is very upset about losing the election. Hmmmmm…finally came across something he couldn’t buy! Ya know, I am usually not a mean person but I have to admit that I am delighted every time I hear this. I was TERRIFIED about what would happen to this country if he won. I have never felt that way about any candidate previously (although I was pretty concerned by Palin). I look at him as a person and still believe he is the most unpatriotic, hollow, ruthless candidate in my lifetime. But it sure kept me motivated!

    • 195 theo67
      November 16, 2012 at 10:41 pm

I am thrilled that Romney is finding it hard to accept that he lost. It proves just how empty and lacking integrity he is that he can’t understand why his fellow Americans didn’t like being lied to and being called moochers. I hope he spends the rest of his days stewing in his confusion over his loss. The fact that he had the gall to run for President is bad enough.

Looking for details of POTUS’ trip to Asia. So far, a general description:

From Saturday to Sunday, Obama visits Bangkok to meet Thailand’s king and its first female prime minister, Yingluck Shinawatra. The country is among America’s oldest allies in Asia, but tensions exist, including disagreement over the U.S.-led Trans-Pacific Partnership that Thailand may join, and Thailand’s refusal to allow NASA to use an airfield for atmospheric monitoring.

On Monday, Air Force One makes its maiden flight to Rangoon, Burma, also known as Myanmar, to start the first visit by a sitting U.S. president. The White House, which eased trade sanctions in recent months against this once-pariah regime, has come under fire from human rights groups for visiting Burma while ethnic conflicts continue, and rights abuses remain widespread.

Obama will give a speech on democracy and meet both President Thein Sein and Aung San Suu Kyi, the opposition leader and democracy icon who is now a sitting MP, although Burma’s parliament remains rigged to ensure the ruling party and military hold sway.

She watched him pray and after about 45 minutes, when he turned to leave, she approached him for an interview.

“I’m Rebecca Smith from CNN. Sir, how long have you been coming to the Wall and praying?”

    “For about 60 years.”

“60 years! That’s amazing! What do you pray for?”

“I pray for peace between the Christians, Jews and the Muslims. I pray for all the hatred to stop and I pray for all our children to grow up in safety and friendship.”

“How do you feel after doing this for 60 years?”

    From the White House:

“Prime Minister Netanyahu called the President today to provide an update on the situation in Israel and Gaza. The Prime Minister expressed his deep appreciation to the President and the American people for the United States’ investment in the Iron Dome rocket and mortar defense system, which has effectively defeated hundreds of incoming rockets from Gaza and saved countless Israeli lives.

“The President reiterated U.S. support for Israel’s right to defend itself, and expressed regret over the loss of Israeli and Palestinian civilian lives. The two leaders discussed options for de-escalating the situation.”

Oh please. Let’s not pretend Israel doesn’t have it’s own problems and isn’t a fucking bully. Both sides need to act like adults and Israel is not innocent in this catastrophic mess.

        November 17, 2012 at 9:16 am

Personally I loathe Netanyahu. What he is doing is disgraceful and what is most distressing is that it is a repeat of what happened just before the last elections in Israel. He’s ginning up support for his re election and the US has to sit back and let Israel do whatever it wants. This will not end well – above all for the poor Palestinians and secondly for US national security. Only in the uS does Israel enjoy such staunch support – the rest of the world sees Israel for the ugly bully it has become. It’s the only thing I do not admire about PBO – letting Israel do as it pleases because strong pushback threatens support for Democratic party. It’s cowardly and that is a fact.

      • November 17, 2012 at 9:56 am

Hmm, no thoughts for the kids slaughtered in Gaza by Israeli rockets?

    • 246 theo67
      November 16, 2012 at 11:04 pm

Personally, I’m very distressed over all the innocent lives being carelessly used as pawns in this conflict. I cynically feel that Netanyahu is using this to cover up his indiscretions during the campaign, and to force the President to reiterate his support of Netanyahu and his nefarious schemes. I’m not sure why there has to be a ground game when Israel has an iron dome to protect them, and a far superior suite of weapons – why do they need to go into the streets? How is this different from Syria? I know this is a very sensitive topic, so I really don’t expect a response from everyone. But, this whole situation is making my stomach hurt, and just seems so unnecessary – on both sides. A life gets snuffed out in a second. I’d have more sympathy for Netanyahu feeling that he’s got no other options if he had made even the slightest effort to adhere to the settlement restrictions and participate honestly in the peace talks. I’ll leave it there.

Nate Silver sez it’s unlikely that the dems will win the house majority in 2014. Let’s prove him wrong. The prez and DNC should seriously start targeting some vulnerable rethug seats. We even frigging won a senate and a congress seat even in frigging deep red Utah. There were many repub house races where the dems didn’t even put up a candidate in 2012. /eyeroll.

    • 256 forus50
      November 16, 2012 at 9:19 pm

The gerrymandering (done by both sides dependent on who controls the state legislature) is a killer. In Illinois there were many seats where Dems ran unopposed so that’s just the reality of gerrymandering. It’s like expecting to find a Boston Red Sox fan in Manhattan. Turning a district is difficult and I think the Dems did it in any district that had any potential. It is probably going to be harder in 2014 than 2012…I just don’t know how it’s going to happen unfortunately.

However having the Senate and Presidency for 4 years will protect the Supreme Court, Obamacare, Dodd Frank and all the other recent legislation and probably getting some new legislation through. Forward is still possible.

      • 257 amk for obama
        November 16, 2012 at 9:33 pm

I get that. But there are many still vulnerable repubs – batshit crazy bachmann is one – where the dems lost by whisker. Dems should go bold and go big. If they can flip the entire MN house and senate in 2012, then they can at least make a big effort in other so called red fortresses.

    • 259 cookemom
      November 16, 2012 at 9:23 pm

Nate’s probably referring to the fact that a lot of those Repub Governors, State Houses and Senates were able to re-draw the voting district maps. They all but guarantee a Repub win for most of those states. I think, like Utah there’s got to be a very intense and local GOTV effort. Then get ready for Blue Dogs again, who many feel are better than the alternative. They weren’t very reliable though.

A pastor, known for his lengthy sermons, noticed a man get up and leave during the middle of his message. The man returned just before the conclusion of the service. Afterwards the pastor asked the man where he had gone.

“I went to get a haircut,” was the reply.

“But,” said the pastor, “why didn’t you do that before the service?”

“Because,” the gentleman said, “I didn’t need one then.”

    • 330 57andFemale

It was also ‘unlikely’ two years out that we would keep the Senate, and unthinkable that we would add to our majority.

Repubs redistricted with a vengeance (do they know how to do anything without vengeance?) because Dem’s didn’t vote in 2010. God, I hope we’ve learned our lesson.

But we can STILL win the House in 2014. We won some serious races this races. If the party, the President and ALL OF US keep the momentum going (the way Republicans do) we’ll retake the House in 2014. And be on our way to returning public discourse to sanity and some truth, and start to be able to govern again.
