Hey Admiral and TODers, I will be taking a two week cruise to WI starting tomorrow. I’ll be in and out since the wifii up there ain’t to good. Will monitor when it’s working. You’ve been notified so no more ‘bad mouthin’.
Excuse me Yardarm, I don’t recall giving you permission to take leave?! Oh, go on – have the best time ever Yardarm, drop in when you can, will miss you!
Maybe save the tot of rhum (or two) for when you reach your destination? Something to look forward to, while keeping yourself safe on the high seas…. or freeways…. Safe travels, Yardarm!
That sounds great. I wish I had two weeks off. Have a wonderful cruise and a very happy Thanksgiving! By the way, did you get a chance to share some Duke Ellington tunes?
That’s intense, and underscores why the GOP needs to keep promoting Benghazi as a scandal…to provide cover for this very real threat to our Nation’s security that Patraeus’ behavior represented.
😆 😆 I’m glad to hear you are rested and actually feel quite proud of you!
BTW: Aunty VC? While I’m not averse to being ‘auntied’, do you think you could add ‘YOUNG’ before that? The title paints such an old picture of me otherwise that it shouldn’t be left unattended.
Woot! Great minds. Looooove Rahm “Rahmbo” Emanuel. He’s so bloody wonderful on Sunday news shows. He doesn’t pause to take a breath or allow the useless MSM to interrupt him with their talking points. He was fantastic throughout the election cycle.
I have two prevailing thoughts about today … one: McCain has to be taken down/out. Seriously, he must. Second, I am now scared to death that the prevailing “sex scandal” has now reached the White House just (so far) in the sense that the players in this sordid affair have been to the WH and recently? Why? What is happening? Can (we) not have at least four years to just work together on this country without drama of this sort?
That cow from Tampa was found to have visited the White House 4 times during this administration. Seriously…people lost their jobs at Wonder Bread and innocent people are dying in Palestine to prop up the chances for re-election for Bibi. Those are very real problems.
Think about all the *real* bad stuff this President has had to deal with in the previous 4 years and ask yourself if any of this even remotely rises to that level for one, and if the President can handle it? Based on his past performance, I’d say: He’s got this and any other damn thing that comes down the pike.
Let’s remember, until the scandal unfolded, Mrs Petraeus was personal friends with the Kelley’s and had been so for several years. Given her various roles in supporting military families and the enormous commitment to that endeavor the First Lady and Dr Biden have made over the past 4 years, it would not surprise me that that is at least in part why they had access to the White House – they were attending various functions as supporters of military families. Also, 1000s of people attend events at the White House every year.
Bob, it lower level than that — she was visiting a WH staffer (military staffer that had previously been stationed in Tampa); never had dealing with PBO, VP, FLOTUS, SLOTUS, or executive staff. Had a couple of meals in the WH Mess w/her MilStaff friend. No big deal.
Except that she somehow weaseled her way into talks/briefings re. Pakistan and Afghanistan. On what basis was she qualified for that? Great parties for the military brass? And 3 visits? or 4? That’s ridiculous. That’s not just a courtesy tour. That staffer showed really poor judgment and allowed himself to be conned. Was she emailing him too? He should be gone.
Oh sorry—you’re right—–it was Broadwell. Don’t know why she qualified to sit in on foreign policy meetings either, other than her close—ahem—- relationship with Petraeus, which shouldn’t have qualified her for that kind of policy briefing either. I heard today that she had fudged—-overinflated her resume—-never got her PHD etc.—–which she has been including in her lists of —uh—accomplishments. These gals are something else. The Kelley gal was emailing the Tampa mayor saying she was just coming from breakfast at the WH, trying to make it sound like it was something it wasn’t—–and that everyone there was really tense before the election, like she was besties with everyone there. Piece of work.
In talking with my daughter who is working in Germany at present I found out she was shocked by the affair business. She went to grad school in Denver with Paula Broadwell and they have been good friends. Paula is very accomplished and has worked in high level government. It is too bad she got involved in the affair as my daughter says she has a wonderful family. When I heard my daughter talk about her and her involvements in charity work and her career I saw a different side of the picture. My daughter is not a bad judge of character. Not trying to tout Paula Broadwell here but saying there are different perspectives on things.
Didn’t the Mayor see pres Obama the week before the election……when pres Obama went to Chicago to vote early? Then the Mayor saw the pres last week the day before the election…..I am guessing and on the 11-06-12? And now, the the mayor is at the White House today? Is the Mayor wanting to come back to the White House…….lol?
Noticing the body language between President Obama and Mayor Emmanuel-open and trusting. Now the language in the picture between President Obama and Orange Julius at the desk- Obama is away and excluding by not facing him, his shoulders are turn away from bonehead at that table. Just noticin’.
Bob, I only just saw your lovely message on Twitter – thank you so much! I always forget to check DMs, found one yesterday that was sent three months ago 😳 All’s good Bob, thanks again!
Read the letter, Bob, and it is a thing of beauty. Reid lays it on the line, tells McCain he’s acting like a partisan hack and basically asks him to grow up and do his job.
I have often looked at Soledad, at her photos, but never watched any of her programs or videos, but thought nevertheless that she’s no pushover. There’s something about her expression that should warn anyone intent on obfuscating ANYTHING to stay away, stay far, far away. Now I can see what the dunces should fear — she’s great at killing them gently.
wow–she’s relentless, and also very skillful. brava! didn’t even have to deliver the final blow–hack admitted his issue was not with susan rice but with the president. so the listener connects the dots, that the president was correct that the rethugs are bashing her to hurt him.
Shrewd lady. She has shown through this election that she is capable of interviewing someone trying to spin and able to trap them in their own words time and time again.
Seems to me the GOP is setting traps both ways at all times. Using a timeline to criticize if info is not put forth soon enough and again if the info is wrong and has to be adjusted.
What I would like to know is who did he think had better information to present on the Sunday talk shows? The information was still coming forward and the President does not do Sunday talk shows. PBO and SOS Clinton were too busy trying to find out what was happening to take time for the shows.
Just saw James Bond Skyfall. It was great. If you are a fan if the whole series with all the Bonds, you’ll love the momentos. If u just love the modern series you’ll still love it. I think it’s the best of the Daniel Craig series
This is really uplifting after that doofus Republican Govenor. Meet the black, gay, organic farmer who won a seat in the Maine’s House of Representatives.
The antidote to this week's disgusting news from the Maine GOP: http://t.co/S4h3ihPA
This wonderful new state senator sounds a lot like our beloved PBO in so many ways. I had tears in my eyes when I read the article because it shows that this country is really growing up and that what PBO says about who we are is so true for most of the country. Thanks so much for sharing this.
Just finished up my Christmas shopping this evening. I almost went into the Macy’s to get my sister’s gift. Thought of the dump Trump campaign and took my business to Nordstrom instead.
Nordstrom sent me an email that said they would decorate for Christmas AFTER Thanksgiving … because they believe in celebrating one holiday at a time. Love it!
Yup – they’ve been sending out tons of reminders for some sale this weekend. I’ve deleted every single one. I have no intention of going in there, but I’m definitely shopping this weekend. Discovering new places!
Reposting from last thread because it is soooo cute!
Good evening peeps! Remember the now famous photo of the Obamas the campaign tweeted out election night? For your FRIDAY afternoon treat, here is the OTHER side of the photo of Michelle’s face taken from the other side of the stage. I love it. As the article notes, fortunately she looks as happy to be holding him again:-) Enjoy!
Ah! You’re still here:) Thought that you’d be getting ready to go on your cruise! Have fun and have a relaxing and wonderful Thanksgiving….take it easy at the casino, unless you win big and can get us all to the Inauguration or something:) Have fun!!
I’m going to miss your posts, Yardarm while you’re on your cruise. Take care. Enjoy your trip and be sure to inform us when you’re back at your TOD duty station. LOL.
Bless you sailor! Thanks for interrupting your cruise plan to share C- Jam Blues. This is one of the Duke’s song that I remember my oldest brother, a veteran of WWII, used to play over and over again on the phonograph (sometimes called by the trade name gramophone) when I was about 10 or 11 years old. It was listening to tunes like this that made me fall in love with Jazz. I hope you have a wonderful cruise.
But it’s only because I had time to seek out the news. You, on the other hand, are incredibly busy and therefore, not don’t have time for such trifles.
Anyway, it doesn’t it matter, cuz I loves ya anyway… Like My President, I’ve learned that some folks gonna hate my success.
Hate away, baby… 😉
Ha! So did I! 😉 ….. Nah, just the actual news one. What the hell was the one about George Lucas and the one about stealing the keys to the London Tower? When the hell did that happen?
I know, right?! I went back and answered all of them the right way 😉 , as a mental flip off to the quiz creator, but also to make myself feel better. I felt fantastic afterwards. 😆 😆
Well, if you denizens of news did so poorly (except LL) I’m not even going to click on that link. You have forcibly reminded me of the 60+% I scraped on the last political quiz you guys ‘conned’ me into doing.
Nice one! 😆 😆 Had I been thinking I’d have tried for that topical score too. 😉 That way I could have earned comparison rights being on the same level with our greatest ‘newster’ / ‘newsstar’ – Chips.
I’ m with you LL, missed that one. There are days as I get older that I know my memory is not what it used to be. Nice to know that I seem to be remembering most of what I read:-) And I did guess on two of them, but they were good guesses.
On Rev Al’s show guy said: McCain losing Committee Chair & that’s why he needs a special committee to investigate Libya so he has some relevance & appear on Sunday shows. He has nowhere to go for relevance!
Well, one of the biggest perks of being in the majority is holding the Chairs of all the committees and setting the agenda. So I doubt they would be giving up any seat for a Republican. So I’m not sure what you are referring to.
Petraeus takes the wind from conspiracy theorists’ sails
By Steve Benen

In the week since former CIA Director David Petraeus announced his resignation, the right has come up with a variety of colorful conspiracy theories, all of which have been debunked. Was his sex scandal hidden from public view to boost President Obama’s re-election prospects? No. Was the White House blackmailing him? No. Did he step down to avoid congressional testimony on Benghazi? No.
But over the last day or so, the right has stumbled upon a new micro-scandal: the original CIA draft materials referenced specific suspected terrorists, but their names were removed and replaced with the word “extremist” in the final draft.
“A ha!” the conspiracy theorists proclaim. “This proves Obama’s people hid key details! It’s clear evidence of … something!” It’s really not.
I have become a fan of this Col. Wilkerson, he said that Barbara Bush gave some advice to the Republicans, she said they won, get over it. Hear that Republicans.
She’s probably trying to smooth the waters so that her precious other son can begin his doomed presidential campaign. Unless he’s going to follow Jermaine Jackson (I mean, Jacksun)’s lead, then he might as well abandon those plans. If this country nominates and elects another Bush – especially one who wants to deny any culpability for his brother’s actions – then… I don’t know.
The U.S. said Friday it implemented an announced easing on imports from Myanmar as the long-isolated country continues its rapid thaw in iced relations with Washington.
A box of Twinkies is going for 100 bucks on ebay. Store shelves have been wiped bare. I think I read that Twinkies have a very long shelf life, like decades, or something. Buy now, you’ll have them for life. You can enjoy one on your very last day. Something to look forward to.
Oh dear – LOL! I used to crave twinkies about once a year, and I just had to have them. I’d get a little pack of two, and love them. Then, when I saw some program about how they took days to dissolve in some solution, and how they basically have a shelf life of “forever”, I never touched one again. That’s not food. That’s something else, entirely. But, I still do crave them every once in a while…
Time for a break and a weekend laugh. Some more e-mails
Subj: Twenty Dollars
On their wedding night, the young bride approached her new husband and asked
for $20.00 for their first lovemaking encounter. In his highly aroused
state, her husband readily agreed. This scenario was repeated each time they
made love, for more than 40 years, with him thinking that it was a cute way
for her to afford new clothes and other incidentals that she needed.
Arriving home around noon one day, she was surprised to find her husband in
a very drunken state. During the next few minutes, he explained that his
employer was going through a process of corporate downsizing, and he had
been let go. It was unlikely that, at the age of 59, he’d be able to find
another position that paid anywhere near what he’d been earning, and
therefore, they were financially ruined.
Calmly, his wife handed him a bank book which showed more than forty years
of steady deposits and interest totaling nearly $1 million. Then she
showed
him certificates of deposits issued by the bank which were worth over $2
million, and informed him that they were one of the largest depositors in
the bank.
She explained that for more than three decades she had ‘charged’ him for
sex, these holdings had multiplied and these were the Results of her savings
and investments.
Faced with evidence of cash and investments worth over $3 million, her
husband was so astounded he could barely speak, but finally he found his
voice and blurted out, ‘If I’d had any idea what you were doing, I would
have given you all my business!’
That’s when she shot him.
You know, sometimes, men just don’t know when to keep their mouths shut!
Women are like phones: They like to be held, talked to, and touched often.
But push the wrong button and you’re a$$ is disconnected!
Just saw the clip from Morning Joe where Christie said Romney is very upset about losing the election. Hmmmmm…finally came across something he couldn’t buy! Ya know, I am usually not a mean person but I have to admit that I am delighted every time I hear this. I was TERRIFIED about what would happen to this country if he won. I have never felt that way about any candidate previously (although I was pretty concerned by Palin). I look at him as a person and still believe he is the most unpatriotic, hollow, ruthless candidate in my lifetime. But it sure kept me motivated!
I am thrilled that Romney is finding it hard to accept that he lost. It proves just how empty and lacking integrity he is that he can’t understand why his fellow Americans didn’t like being lied to and being called moochers. I hope he spends the rest of his days stewing in his confusion over his loss. The fact that he had the gall to run for President is bad enough.
Looking for details of POTUS’ trip to Asia. So far, a general description:
From Saturday to Sunday, Obama visits Bangkok to meet Thailand’s king and its first female prime minister, Yingluck Shinawatra. The country is among America’s oldest allies in Asia, but tensions exist, including disagreement over the U.S.-led Trans-Pacific Partnership that Thailand may join, and Thailand’s refusal to allow NASA to use an airfield for atmospheric monitoring.
On Monday, Air Force One makes its maiden flight to Rangoon, Burma, also known as Myanmar, to start the first visit by a sitting U.S. president. The White House, which eased trade sanctions in recent months against this once-pariah regime, has come under fire from human rights groups for visiting Burma while ethnic conflicts continue, and rights abuses remain widespread.
Obama will give a speech on democracy and meet both President Thein Sein and Aung San Suu Kyi, the opposition leader and democracy icon who is now a sitting MP, although Burma’s parliament remains rigged to ensure the ruling party and military hold sway.
Great letter from a guy in Idaho who moved to Ohio for the month before the election to help GOTV, telling about his experience of all the people who came together there to make sure democracy would survive—–estimated 50,000 on the ground there.
Right then, right now MT @jpodhoretz: Obama pollster Benenson says there was no Romney surge, no Romney momentum. http://t.co/OMX2qKci
In Jerusalem, a CNN journalist heard about a very old Jewish man who had been going to the Wailing Wall to pray, twice a day, everyday, for a long, long time. So she went to check it out. She went to the Wailing Wall and there he was!
She watched him pray and after about 45 minutes, when he turned to leave, she approached him for an interview.
“I’m Rebecca Smith from CNN. Sir, how long have you been coming to the Wall and praying?”
“For about 60 years.”
“60 years! That’s amazing! What do you pray for?”
“I pray for peace between the Christians, Jews and the Muslims. I pray for all the hatred to stop and I pray for all our children to grow up in safety and friendship.”
Oooooh, just perfect for the days that are in it. I used to think if Ireland could get peace (kind of), then maybe Israel/Palestine could too. But, it’s further away than ever. Grim.
A lonely frog, desperate for some form of company telephoned the Psychic Hotline to find out what his future holds. His Personal Psychic Advisor tells him, “You are going to meet a beautiful young girl who will want to know everything about you.”
The frog is thrilled and says, “This is great! Where will I meet her, at work, at a party?”
A blind guy on a bar stool shouts to the bartender: “Wanna hear a blonde joke?”
In a hushed voice, the guy next to him says: “Before you tell that joke, you should know something. Our bartender is blonde, the bouncer is blonde. I’m a 6′ tall, 200 lb black belt. The guy sitting next to me is 6’2”, weighs 225, and he’s a rugby player. The fella to your right is 6’5” pushing 300 and he’s a wrestler. Each one of us is blonde. Think about it, mister. Do you still want to tell that joke?”
The blind guy says: “Not if I’m going to explain it five times.”
I think the Democrats were listening closely to Gov. Patrick Duval’s speech at the DNC. It appears that they are finally growing a pair. 🙂 I was really impressed with the Senator who defended Amb. Rice and PBO this week. I don’t remember his name.
4 years in a row of not watching the carnival barkers. What a silly charade that is. I only hope that the younger generation will never see these shows as useful or interesting and they will go the way of the 8 track.
“Prime Minister Netanyahu called the President today to provide an update on the situation in Israel and Gaza. The Prime Minister expressed his deep appreciation to the President and the American people for the United States’ investment in the Iron Dome rocket and mortar defense system, which has effectively defeated hundreds of incoming rockets from Gaza and saved countless Israeli lives.
“The President reiterated U.S. support for Israel’s right to defend itself, and expressed regret over the loss of Israeli and Palestinian civilian lives. The two leaders discussed options for de-escalating the situation.”
Oh please. Let’s not pretend Israel doesn’t have it’s own problems and isn’t a fucking bully. Both sides need to act like adults and Israel is not innocent in this catastrophic mess.
Personally I loathe Netanyahu. What he is doing is disgraceful and what is most distressing is that it is a repeat of what happened just before the last elections in Israel. He’s ginning up support for his re election and the US has to sit back and let Israel do whatever it wants. This will not end well – above all for the poor Palestinians and secondly for US national security. Only in the uS does Israel enjoy such staunch support – the rest of the world sees Israel for the ugly bully it has become. It’s the only thing I do not admire about PBO – letting Israel do as it pleases because strong pushback threatens support for Democratic party. It’s cowardly and that is a fact.
Personally, I’m very distressed over all the innocent lives being carelessly used as pawns in this conflict. I cynically feel that Netanyahu is using this to cover up his indiscretions during the campaign, and to force the President to reiterate his support of Netanyahu and his nefarious schemes. I’m not sure why there has to be a ground game when Israel has an iron dome to protect them, and a far superior suite of weapons – why do they need to go into the streets? How is this different from Syria? I know this is a very sensitive topic, so I really don’t expect a response from everyone. But, this whole situation is making my stomach hurt, and just seems so unnecessary – on both sides. A life gets snuffed out in a second. I’d have more sympathy for Netanyahu feeling that he’s got no other options if he had made even the slightest effort to adhere to the settlement restrictions and participate honestly in the peace talks. I’ll leave it there.
Bravo Theo. My sentiments exactly. Innocent lives are being lost on both sides while bullies pretend to be adults. Netanyahu being the biggest bully of them all.
Nate Silver sez it’s unlikely that the dems will win the house majority in 2014. Let’s prove him wrong. The prez and DNC should seriously start targeting some vulnerable rethug seats. We even frigging won a senate and a congress seat even in frigging deep red Utah. There were many repub house races where the dems didn’t even put up a candidate in 2012. /eyeroll.
The gerrymandering (done by both sides dependent on who controls the state legislature) is a killer. In Illinois there were many seats where Dems ran unopposed so that’s just the reality of gerrymandering. It’s like expecting to find a Boston Red Sox fan in Manhattan. Turning a district is difficult and I think the Dems did it in any district that had any potential. It is probably going to be harder in 2014 than 2012…I just don’t know how it’s going to happen unfortunately.
However having the Senate and Presidency for 4 years will protect the Supreme Court, Obamacare, Dodd Frank and all the other recent legislation and probably getting some new legislation through. Forward is still possible.
I get that. But there are many still vulnerable repubs – batshit crazy bachmann is one – where the dems lost by whisker. Dems should go bold and go big. If they can flip the entire MN house and senate in 2012, then they can at least make a big effort in other so called red fortresses.
Nate’s probably referring to the fact that a lot of those Repub Governors, State Houses and Senates were able to re-draw the voting district maps. They all but guarantee a Repub win for most of those states. I think, like Utah there’s got to be a very intense and local GOTV effort. Then get ready for Blue Dogs again, who many feel are better than the alternative. They weren’t very reliable though.

Father, thank You for protecting President Obama on the way and during and on the way back from his Burma, Asian tour. Thank You, Sir for always guiding, guarding and protecting not only him but also his entire staff. Let him be in the righ places at the right times. Thank You for giving him Your wisdom and insight. Let him be a blessing to the people of Burma and received with welcoming arms. Thank You that the angels keep strong watch over him and his entire staff and that this whole trip is in peace and love , in Jesus Mighty Name Amen!
A pastor, known for his lengthy sermons, noticed a man get up and leave during the middle of his message. The man returned just before the conclusion of the service. Afterwards the pastor asked the man where he had gone.
“I went to get a haircut,” was the reply.
“But,” said the pastor, “why didn’t you do that before the service?”
“Because,” the gentleman said, “I didn’t need one then.”
It’s a testimony to how magnanimous the President is that he can smile and welcome these vultures into the home where his children sleep after what they’ve done these past four years. He’s a good man.
I loved the ending! Paraphrasing: President Obama had to decide how much poor judgement he could stand from his CIA Director, and his answer was “none”.
I’m against it because of the title of the piece. There’s no luck involved – hard work, earnestness, good policy. People who think this was about luck have never had to do anything really hard.
So dudette how did u like Scandal last night? I am so upset Liv gave into the senator!!!! I want her with Fitz and no one else!!!! That was an awesome episode!
I haven’t watched last night’s Scandal yet, but I’m glad she’s moving on from that Fitz. He seems like a poor character of a man – he’s mean to his wife, he’s cheating on her, and he’s using Liv like a piece of meat. She deserves better.
It was also ‘unlikely’ two years out that we would keep the Senate, and unthinkable that we would add to our majority.
Repubs redistricted with a vengeance (do they know how to do anything without vengeance?) because Dem’s didn’t vote in 2010. God, I hope we’ve learned our lesson.
But we can STILL win the House in 2014. We won some serious races this races. If the party, the President and ALL OF US keep the momentum going (the way Republicans do) we’ll retake the House in 2014. And be on our way to returning public discourse to sanity and some truth, and start to be able to govern again.
So, the Presidents weekly address said that everybody’s taxes will go up if taxes on the wealthy don’t go up.
Then, Ayiotte weekly address is nobody’s taxes should go up.
Ok! Sounds really concilatory to me. Not!
The Republucans are looking at March, where the Givernment runs out of money and we have to raise the debt ceiling.
The might shut down the government at tha time, it’s what their constituents want.
I don’t trust them, they have something else planned.
Just saying!
Reid and Boehner split over timing for deficit-reduction deal
Alexander Bolton – 11/17/12 06:00 AM ET
Democrats want to strike an agreement now. Republicans say a broad package would be too complex to finish soon.…
And as collegekay said, they will be blamed fair and square. If they want to lose the house in 2014, let them keep obstructing. This time their corporate media won’t save them.
That is true for only some of them. Not all. Republicans cannot win on just their policies. They have to resort to all kinds of dirty tricks to win elections these days – race-baiting, voter suppression tactics, etc.
But but but Petreas said this and that Petreas really didn’t say this and that Jack and Jill of South Tampa went up the Hill to fetch a General or two, Petreas fell down and broke his Crown, tax the rich don’t tax the rich, watergate Schmatergate, McCain is madder than a Hornet and Lindsey Graham is the new dynamic duo and…
The MSM will quietly pretend this never happened. All this distraction with Patraeus, etc is to hide the increasingly obvious fact that this election was no where as “close” as the MSM predicted or would have liked. It was a resounding defeat DESPITE all the efforts that went into creating the opposite outcome.
Yes. I saw that lineup Chips posted. Sunday news shows have never been more hideous. They only grow more disgusting with each passing week. Leave them to rot in a heap of fear.
Yayy!
Congrats.
Thanks, MRM 112. It’s been a down-day, until now.
Good for you!
Thanks, vcprezfan2. This is a HIGH point.
First?! Wow. I’ve been down all day because of the public bashing of Susan Rice. This helps a lot. Chips Chica: How about a fun PBO?
Helloooooooo LaDLove
Oh, Chipsticks…thank you so much. You have no idea how this has lifted my spirits.
Congrats on first LaDLove! 🙂
Nice prize too — look at that million watt smile! Wow!
Why thank you Highness. I’ll fill the moat upon my return. 😀
“I’ll fill the moat upon my return.”
Is that a good thing Yardarm? 😕
It’s your castle. I’m just going to visit in the countryside my Liege.
Hope you have a delightful time, sailor. And, Happy Thanksgiving!!
Same to you Lootenant. I plan to spend a bit o’ time at the Ho-Chunk Casino to try me luck.
Yardarm, you’re going to SAIL to Wisconsin?
(Joan, I’ll confess, I was puzzled too … wasn’t sure if Yardarm meant Wisconsin or the West Indies!)
Yup. In a Town & Country van after a tot of rhum or two. It’s a long way from Chicago. 😀
Maybe save the tot of rhum (or two) for when you reach your destination? Something to look forward to, while keeping yourself safe on the high seas…. or freeways…. Safe travels, Yardarm!
Aye theo but I don’t have the helm. I’m the starboard lookout. Some one else is minding the wheel.
We will miss you cap’n. But I will make sure to look out for your ship as it makes its way back home. Happy Thanksgiving and enjoy your cruise!! 🙂
Aye hopefruit2 you have a good holiday too. I’ll check-in when I can.
Have a safe and happy excursion, yardarm.
Aye, aye vitamin. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.
Safe Travels…enjoy your Thanksgiving…will miss you..
Awww shucks. I won’t be gone long. ‘sides I’m gonna lurk as much as possible. 🙂
There’s a major GOTV operation going on here Yardarm demanding that you don’t leave. But if you want to abandon us ….. 😥 ….. that’s okay.
You know damn good and well that a sailor is sometimes granted a leave(liberty call). I refuse to take a guilt trip. Nay, wish me well!
Okay then, safe travels my friend!
Aye Admiral.
Happy sailing Sailor!
Thanks GGail. Happy Thanksgiving.
That sounds great. I wish I had two weeks off. Have a wonderful cruise and a very happy Thanksgiving! By the way, did you get a chance to share some Duke Ellington tunes?
Not yet. I’ll try to plug some in later this evening.
Sounds like fun! Enjoy! And try not to take over the ship! 🙂
Sure will. Thanks. Got some Duke down thread.
Safe journeys Yard. Have the best Thanksgiving ever!
Yup per. You too Dakota.

wow. makes sense.
That’s intense, and underscores why the GOP needs to keep promoting Benghazi as a scandal…to provide cover for this very real threat to our Nation’s security that Patraeus’ behavior represented.
Yes. PRP is a very big deal and Petraeus knew it.
We call that some heavy drama. Our Polaris submarine commanders would also come under this. Witness the power of the vagina.
heh!
Hey Chips Chica, am I to assume you have finally taken our advice to rest your
fingersankle today? Good Gurl!Hellooooooo Aunty VC! Fingers well rested today, excellent advice as ever 🙂
Boehner must be mad he’s missing his weekly meeting with his fellow Oompa Lumpas.
😆 That explains it, UT!
I don’t know ut….it seems that there was a GOP memo that stated they all must go around with this sour look on their faces – HAhahahaha!!!
Hi UT, just added a pic of PBO and Rahm from today.
Can (we) not have at least four years to just work together on this country without drama of this sort?
daisydem, let’s not worry about nothing. Explain to me how it has reach the WH and why it concerns you. I don’t get it.
Correct, Alycee! Thank you!!!
You’re welcome.
No, that was Broadhurst that attended one briefing on Afghanistan at the Old Executive Office Building (across the street from the WH)
Not trying to tout Paula Broadwell here but saying there are different perspectives on things.
make that Broadwell…
Didn’t the Mayor see pres Obama the week before the election……when pres Obama went to Chicago to vote early? Then the Mayor saw the pres last week the day before the election…..I am guessing and on the 11-06-12? And now, the the mayor is at the White House today? Is the Mayor wanting to come back to the White House…….lol?
Or
‘Am I connecting too many dots here?
Dunno … but I love it when Rham and our Prez are together .. for whatever reason!
Rahm is doing what is loves to do. I think he is spending time with his friend.
Noticing the body language between President Obama and Mayor Emmanuel-open and trusting. Now the language in the picture between President Obama and Orange Julius at the desk- Obama is away and excluding by not facing him, his shoulders are turn away from bonehead at that table. Just noticin’.
https://twitter.com/NJedwina/status/269588320311468032
That’s brutal!
I know, right?
Most definitely, Edwina – that will leave lots of marks …
Wow. Ya give your whole life to the military, get yourself into a fix, and you end up with that. Whew. Brutal is right.
Oh crikey, hilarious!!!!
Hope your ankle is improving, Chips!
This letter from Senator Reid to McCain is a thing of beauty!!!
Bob, I only just saw your lovely message on Twitter – thank you so much! I always forget to check DMs, found one yesterday that was sent three months ago 😳 All’s good Bob, thanks again!
I’m the same way with DM’s, Chips!! Not to worry, just glad to know you’re healing!
Bob, I’m now trying to remember to check them at least, oooooh, once a month 😕
😀 😀 😀
Read the letter, Bob, and it is a thing of beauty. Reid lays it on the line, tells McCain he’s acting like a partisan hack and basically asks him to grow up and do his job.
Sen. Reid’s letter is a thing of beauty; hits all cylinders. Love it!
They forgot the sliced pineapple 🙂
😆 You’re BAD CT!
Ouch!!!! 😀 😀
Good news.
And this is who Macy’s wants to partner with?
https://twitter.com/NJedwina/status/269585215423393793
Just saw James Bond Skyfall. It was great. If you are a fan if the whole series with all the Bonds, you’ll love the momentos. If u just love the modern series you’ll still love it. I think it’s the best of the Daniel Craig series
I forgot that was already showing – thanks for the reminder and the review! May go see that this weekend.
Be still, my raging heart! Every time I see VP Biden, my heartbeat speeds up. Dr. Jill is a very lucky woman. Hubba, hubba.
Move over, on that one. 🙂
You all move over .. he and I are gonna take a train ride together … someday!
SRO on that train, methinks!
SRO? I’ve tried figuring that one out, and failed dismally. I decided to just ask…
Oh, sorry. Standing Room Only!
Thanks Jacq – I would never have guessed that one. 🙂
This is really uplifting after that doofus Republican Govenor. Meet the black, gay, organic farmer who won a seat in the Maine’s House of Representatives.
Well done, Claire!!!!
Woot! Tweeted it!
Yes! Hope everyone does the same.
Nordstrom sent me an email that said they would decorate for Christmas AFTER Thanksgiving … because they believe in celebrating one holiday at a time. Love it!
Ha! Another reason to shop there instead of Macy’s!
Wow! That was FAST!!
That. Is. COOOOOOOOOOOL!!!! Brilliant tweets Dudette!!!
Wow, that’s as cool as cool can be! Congrats for the tweet back Dudette!
Yeah!
Yeah, that is wonderful.

Lovely! Thank you so much for posting again. I had not seen it. 🙂
How cool is that. The Other Side of Victory!!
Just gorgeous Foxfire, added it to the post – thank you!!!
LOOOOOOOVVVVVEEEEE THE SIDE BY SIDE PHOTOS! 😀 😀 😀
Too lovely for words, Dudette!!
By request of nath and others. Notice the styles of WWII
Ah! You’re still here:) Thought that you’d be getting ready to go on your cruise! Have fun and have a relaxing and wonderful Thanksgiving….take it easy at the casino, unless you win big and can get us all to the Inauguration or something:) Have fun!!
I’ll try desert. I’ll try. I’m leaving ’til tomorrow. It’s only a 3 hour drive.
I’m going to miss your posts, Yardarm while you’re on your cruise. Take care. Enjoy your trip and be sure to inform us when you’re back at your TOD duty station. LOL.
Think you majii. I will try to send some signals whenever I can find a wifi hot spot.
Thanks nathkatun.
Well done Sailor! That’s the good, GOOD stuff! Got me inspired! 🙂
Don’t forget to click on the inserts at the end.

Anyone try the Slate quiz? I got them * all right:
http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/the_slate_quiz/2012/11/the_slate_quiz_with_quizmaster_ken_jennings_play_the_news_quiz_for_the_week_2.html
* Huge lie
Well, I missed #11. Other than that, I rock and rolled. Thank you, BBC World! (If I depended on the US media to inform me, I’d be in a sad state.)
I read that first as “I missed 11”, and I was about to say “me too LL!”
I dislike you. Intensely.
DITTO!!
Don’t hate me (got ’em all). 🙂
Me too LL.
Ha! So did I! 😉 ….. Nah, just the actual news one. What the hell was the one about George Lucas and the one about stealing the keys to the London Tower? When the hell did that happen?
You mean you didn’t get those two right Lisa 😯
(Me neither …. and they weren’t the only ones. I thought I was a news junkie 😳 )
I know, right?! I went back and answered all of them the right way 😉 , as a mental flip off to the quiz creator, but also to make myself feel better. I felt fantastic afterwards. 😆 😆
Ooooh, going to do that right now!! “as a mental flip off to the quiz creator” 😆 😆 😆
Well, if you denizens of news did so poorly (except LL) I’m not even going to click on that link. You have forcibly reminded me of the 60+% I scraped on the last political quiz you guys ‘conned’ me into doing.
I think I got 47% in that one VC, but that was deliberate, it being a topical figure at the time 😕
Nice one! 😆 😆 Had I been thinking I’d have tried for that topical score too. 😉 That way I could have earned comparison rights being on the same level with our greatest ‘newster’ / ‘newsstar’ – Chips.
I missed the Papa Johns and the George Lucas ones.
How can McCain be a committee chair when the Republicans are in the minority?
highest ranking Republican I think?
Forget who, but I think there’s another repub who has seniority, & they can’t repeat more than 2X chair?
Apparently he wants Chair & he isn’t getting Indian Affairs! Majority gets dibs!
My understanding is that Repubs can be ranking members but not chairs.
Could it be that majority can give breadcrumbs to ranking minorities but they can only get chair crumbs if they’ve not held said chair before?
Well, one of the biggest perks of being in the majority is holding the Chairs of all the committees and setting the agenda. So I doubt they would be giving up any seat for a Republican. So I’m not sure what you are referring to.
Chips – some excellent Steve Benen here ….
Petraeus takes the wind from conspiracy theorists’ sails
By Steve Benen
–
Fri Nov 16, 2012 4:04 PM EST

Hehehehehehehehehehehehehehehhehe!! This is hilarious!! I couldn’t stop laughing.
ROFL!!!!
LOL!!!!
Brilliant!
Excuse typos, on smartphone. Col. Wilkerson & Rep. Van Hollen on Ed show. Waiting for them!
Col Wilkerson is on fire and blasting the GOP witch hunters. Speaking truth to the lies that McCain and his girl friend Lindsey are spewing.
Who does the CIA answer to……..
Would it be NSA?

The U.S. said Friday it implemented an announced easing on imports from Myanmar as the long-isolated country continues its rapid thaw in iced relations with Washington.
http://blogs.wsj.com/corruption-currents/2012/11/16/us-eases-myanmar-import-ban-ahead-of-obama-visit/
Boy, sure do like the way Col. Wilkerson called out the Republican party. it is a true case of sour grapes. He was on point.
Wasn’t it great?
Yes it was.
But push the wrong button and you’re a$$ is disconnected!
wimmin/smh
LOL that rates four happy faces 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂
I actually snorted when I laughed at this one. That definitely caught me off guard! LOL!!
I hope Michele Flournoy returns to a good position in the next administration. She is really good.
Absolutely agree…
This is FUN!!!
Love it!
There’s also the Summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in Cambodia somewhere in there.
All to the good. I would love to understand more about President Obama’s strategic thinking that’s behind his foreign trips for the next four years.
So what happened in the y’day’s ‘fiscal cliff’ meeting ? Did the thugs jump off the cliff yet ?
Amk, I give you Steve Benen:
http://maddowblog.msnbc.com/_news/2012/11/16/15223405-a-solution-may-be-in-sight?lite
Thanks Chips. Sigh. Just 17 more seats. We could have completely shut down the thugs.
Great letter from a guy in Idaho who moved to Ohio for the month before the election to help GOTV, telling about his experience of all the people who came together there to make sure democracy would survive—–estimated 50,000 on the ground there.
Wrong tweet above. New and improved tweet
“How do you feel after doing this for 60 years?”
“Like I’m talking to a fuckin’ wall.”
“No” says the psychic, “in a Biology class.”
No!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😥
wimmin, huh ?
That’s just terrible… poor little frog! From the heights of excitement to such a dastardly end. Shame…
😆 😆 TOD blondes? Go get him!!!!
I always thought of amk as a blonde.
I am. Love my long blond hair.

Hey…hey…watch yourself.
Sen. Harry Reid’s letter to John McCain: I refuse to allow the Senate to be used as a venue for baseless partisan attacks.
I think the Democrats were listening closely to Gov. Patrick Duval’s speech at the DNC. It appears that they are finally growing a pair. 🙂 I was really impressed with the Senator who defended Amb. Rice and PBO this week. I don’t remember his name.
Or it’s just that they feel confident in the mandate that they’ve been given by the people. The situation has changed.
Meet the Press: Lindsey Graham, Dianne Feinstein, Mike Rogers, David Cote, Raul Labrador, Tom Friedman, John Podesta, Mike Murphy, Andrea Mitchell
Face the Nation: John McCain, Dick Durbin, Olympia Snowe, David Ignatius, Thomas Ricks, Margaret Brennan, Bob Orr, Maya MacGuineas, Mark Zandi
This Week: Nancy Pelosi, Carl Levin, Peter King, Xavier Becerra, Newt Gingrich, George Will, Donna Brazile, Jonathan Karl
I know you could say the same for a whole bunch of these people, but seriously, how the **** is Gingrich relevant now??
4 years in a row of not watching the carnival barkers. What a silly charade that is. I only hope that the younger generation will never see these shows as useful or interesting and they will go the way of the 8 track.
He’s Flush Limpaw’s doppleganger.
From the White House:
“Prime Minister Netanyahu called the President today to provide an update on the situation in Israel and Gaza. The Prime Minister expressed his deep appreciation to the President and the American people for the United States’ investment in the Iron Dome rocket and mortar defense system, which has effectively defeated hundreds of incoming rockets from Gaza and saved countless Israeli lives.
“The President reiterated U.S. support for Israel’s right to defend itself, and expressed regret over the loss of Israeli and Palestinian civilian lives. The two leaders discussed options for de-escalating the situation.”
Sounds good to me, Mr. President.
Check your pockets Mr. President. What does that ‘backstabber’ want now?
I know, right?
Nobody messes with Israel and gets away with it.
Oh please. Let’s not pretend Israel doesn’t have it’s own problems and isn’t a fucking bully. Both sides need to act like adults and Israel is not innocent in this catastrophic mess.
Thank you…
Personally I loathe Netanyahu.
Hmm, no thoughts for the kids slaughtered in Gaza by Israeli rockets?
Thanks UT. It’s so distressing.
A person who loves war, is an enemy to peace. Netanyahoo, is rubbing this new war and the iron dome given to him in the President’s face.
Yup. Karma will sort him out.
/eyeroll.
Last year at this time, Little Nate also said that PBO was “toast.”
Wasn’t he even saying back in early October that the President should pull out of Florida?
Yes, that’s right. I love how these people make pronouncements without any consideration of policy positions, consequences, etc.
Oh yes – I had even forgotten about that.
Spot on…
Nate’s probably referring to the fact that a lot of those Repub Governors, State Houses and Senates were able to re-draw the voting district maps. They all but guarantee a Repub win for most of those states. I think, like Utah there’s got to be a very intense and local GOTV effort. Then get ready for Blue Dogs again, who many feel are better than the alternative. They weren’t very reliable though.
WORD.

One question: How much money is still left in 2012 Obama war chest ? And What happens to it ?
Ok, that’s two questions.
Enough to cover your bet. Last I heard they were shipping it all to you in crates via seaborn vessels. 2 questions 2 answers. Next!
Where is the shipping bill ?

Uhh. Say what?
Classified/private – whatever. Never mind, just have fun, man! 🙂
Karma would be if the final tally is 4.7 million votes and the bot goes down to 47%.
I know right!
Guess I’ll catch the re-run @11:00 pm…

Yardarm & Amk’s jokes are funny tonight 😆
A pastor, known for his lengthy sermons, noticed a man get up and leave during the middle of his message. The man returned just before the conclusion of the service. Afterwards the pastor asked the man where he had gone.
“I went to get a haircut,” was the reply.
“But,” said the pastor, “why didn’t you do that before the service?”
“Because,” the gentleman said, “I didn’t need one then.”
Did Boehner give our President a love poke?
It certainly looked that way… 🙂
I kNOW! I was like. ooOk who knew they were so buddy buddy.
It’s a testimony to how magnanimous the President is that he can smile and welcome these vultures into the home where his children sleep after what they’ve done these past four years. He’s a good man.
Wife: “Where do you want to go for our anniversary?”
Husband: “Somewhere I have never been!”
Wife hands over a gym membership.
How many men does it take to open a beer?
None. It should be opened by the time she brings it.
And I am outta here.
Avalanche of pillows & nerf bats aimed at your head!
Oh – I missed that one. I’ll have to pinch amk tomorrow for such an outrage! 😉

Deleted the above tweet. Fixed the boo-boo below…
Would love to see my Niece, who is also at Jenner and Block. She has been in front of the SC 5 times and won all 5 cases.
That is AWESOME!
That is HYSTERICAL. Poor Repukes.
Lawrence just did a great piece on Patreas….i do not have UTs recap abilities…but it is worth watching…
Here’s the video: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/45755883/vp/49861534#49861959
I loved the ending! Paraphrasing: President Obama had to decide how much poor judgement he could stand from his CIA Director, and his answer was “none”.

Hmmm, mixed feelings on this one. Appreciate the artistry though… What do you think?
I’m against it because of the title of the piece. There’s no luck involved – hard work, earnestness, good policy. People who think this was about luck have never had to do anything really hard.
Geez. What a baby.
Gotta hop, guys! Leaving you with a little Dinah…
Love you Dears!
I’m hoping that we can prove Nate Silver wrong and turn the House Blue in 2014!
Jees. “we won some serious races this YEAR.
he, he, he! LMAO. The F__ker needs to STFU and go sit down.
He lost in court, however, Port St Lucie is going to retabulate early votes starting at 9:00 this morning…

So, the Presidents weekly address said that everybody’s taxes will go up if taxes on the wealthy don’t go up.
Then, Ayiotte weekly address is nobody’s taxes should go up.
Ok! Sounds really concilatory to me. Not!
If they all go up, the Republicans will be blamed.
–
The Republicans are not cooperating at all!
And as collegekay said, they will be blamed fair and square. If they want to lose the house in 2014, let them keep obstructing. This time their corporate media won’t save them.
I don’t think they care, it’s a big game to them. They think their constituents will reward them if they do not cooperate!
That is true for only some of them. Not all. Republicans cannot win on just their policies. They have to resort to all kinds of dirty tricks to win elections these days – race-baiting, voter suppression tactics, etc.
Allen West doesn’t get it….either does FL. The recount starts in an hour and a half:

And in he goes.
And off he goes.
This is a very long flight. Over 18 hours. Will he stop in AK along the way?
Oooooops! Wrong direction.
I would love to see him on AF1. Where is AK?
Alaska. I had him going in the wrong direction! He will be stopping in Germany to refuel.
OK, cool. I’m not crazy!!
Scary news about the bird strike. Yikes.
Okay – LOL! 🙂
Local time, Bangkok, Thailand: 8:29pm Saturday (ICT)
So, they are +12 hours ahead of Eastern time.
+15 hours ahead of Pacific time.
They have in flight refueling.
Morning everyone! Just finishing Rise and Shine, will post soon. Meanwhile, am I the last to see this?
I am? 😳
LOL! I don’t think you’re last. Not at all Chips!
Second last, Hopefruit? 😳
That was my estimation…
LOL! I was coming over to post this! Love it! Our President has such a great sense of humor!
First stop: Bangkok, an 8,800 mile hop. POTUS arrives 3:10 am Sunday (3:10 pm Bangkok)
Yikes.
What you said.
On the positive side, our President is earning a good number of frequent flyer miles!
Excited to see the progress PBO will be making on this trip. Trade, foreign policy, relations with emerging nations.
Indeed. Tomorrow the media will have their usual Republican love-in Sunday with zero mention of this trip.
Yes. I saw that lineup Chips posted. Sunday news shows have never been more hideous. They only grow more disgusting with each passing week. Leave them to rot in a heap of fear.
Joy Ann thanks UT for speaking the truth!!
Yay!!!!! Just seeing this now. I freaked out when I found out that she follows me on Twitter. Did a happy dance for sure. 😀
