Wife and I don’t get each other anything for Xmas, but instead get something for the house. (That’s what happens when you’ve been together forever and share your money.)
Our sectional sofa was a leftover from my brother, and to be quite frank was quite raggedy. So, off to Living Spaces, where we bought a reclining leather sofa, reclining leather loveseat, and a three piece table set. Merry Xmas!! And we had a junk service come and cart away the old sectional.
I have a 3 day weekend, and I plan to do as little as possible. My only plan is to get together with my gay boyfriend on Monday for some “Skyfall” watching. And then cocktails afterwards. Life is good.
Oh, and wife is done with antibiotics, and gets the picc line removed Tuesday. Huzzah!
Congrats LL on your new living room set, and glad to hear that wife is progressing nicely in her recovery! Have fun relaxing and at the movies on Monday 🙂
You really DID help the economy! Thank you. Sounds like really fun shopping. Your three day weekend sounds lovely – I’m thinking about seeing Skyfall, so please let me know how you like it.
I am so pleased that your wife is off the antibiotics.
Enjoy your new sofa and have a great long weekend with your gay boyfriend, I am taking my son to see skyfall next week, he is a Bond fan and has all the dvd’s. Have fun and have a cocktail or 2 for me!
anybody who hasn’t yet checked out the latest smartypants (helpfully posted in the right hand column here) please do read this powerful piece: my advice to republicans– the next step is listening.
But that is not your classic ideological coalition, with shared interests and concerns. That’s a collection of folks alienated, over time, by Republicans and their mission to return America to an era when some people had it really good — and whole groups of others had to settle for leftovers.
People vote their pocketbooks, but they also vote their passions. And those reflect not only their age and ethnic heritage, but the sort of personal lives that right-wingers have made clear they’re not willing to abide.
Women are having babies without marrying the fathers. Gays and lesbians aren’t willing anymore to stay hidden in the closet. Young people are using social media to lift their champions and bury their opponents. And Latinos and Asian Americans are staking their claim to a growing slice of this American pie.
And that affects the rest of us. If you don’t have a family member who’s gay, you probably have a friend or co-worker who is. If you have teenagers at home, you’ve probably learned to accept their bands of multiracial friends.
And if you are, like me, a single mother, you don’t want to be made to feel that you are shortchanging your kids. And I’m not willing to allow my daughters’ reproductive options to be controlled by a bunch of narrow-minded, self-righteous men.
Voters carried those slights and insults to the voting booth, tired of being treated with contempt by a party that doesn’t seem to understand their realities.
We’re rejecting hypocritical rhetoric: Newt Gingrich, with three marriages and a string of infidelities, arguing that allowing gays to wed violates the sanctity of marriage.
Women heard a wake-up call in Todd Akin’s remarks about rape shutting a woman’s body down. That kind of idiocy is frightening, and it brings clarity to what’s at stake in the debate over abortion.
And young people rebelled at being written off as society’s leeches. They are working full time for poverty wages or desperate for jobs that don’t exist, part of that sponger demographic — the 47% — that Romney privately mocked.
I don’t know if it’s mean-spirited, shortsighted or simply wishful thinking, but the Republican Party is pandering to a base that is rapidly shrinking in a country that’s learning to tune them out.
Hey Chips, have been thinking about this particular tweet ever since VICTORY NIGHT and with the photo/message you created for this thread the time was right!!
Dear @BarackObama You have many exceptional community organizers on your team. Hope you know Ms Chips is 1 of the BEST! http://t.co/mhgUU3le
Yes you have ee=arned it, and my letter did go in. Expect you personal invite to sit up on the stage during the inauguration and one of the balls soon. If you don’t get them don’t blame me, blame Messina.
Ha, Japa you’re just the best – but you seriously have to hope I don’t end up on that stage. I’d be the one escorted away by security after aggressively chanting ‘SUCK ON IT, LOSERS’ as the GOPers arrived. Dignity is not my middle name! 😆 Love ya, Japa.
Great tweet! Slowly but surely, the people will find out that the right wing Republican emperors have no clothes. Talk about a party which is spendthrift! It’s the modern Republican party that talks all this good game about being for fiscal responsibility and prudent government spending, but yet spends money like drunken sailor.
I don’t think making little kids cry this way is very funny, and the kids who forgave their parents immediately was so touching it made me cry. Sheesh — strange idea of comedy, Jimmy old man.
Uh…that was my question. Something about: “difference between people that work hard for their money and people that live on………….” FUCK LET’S NOT WASTE OUR TIME ON IDIOTS!!!

Obama’s first term – in his own words (17:29)
Barack Obama’s first term, won on a promise of hope and change, featured four years of sobering challenges including the worst recession since the Great Depression, bank and auto bailouts, two wars, the fall of some of the Arab world’s long-reigning leaders and the killing of Osama bin Laden. Production by Natalie Armstrong. ( Transcript )
More fun with numbers! 4+7=11…which is the month that RR got handed their asses on a platter, courtesy of the American people. November is the 11th month…no good “arithmetic” for Mittens!
Charter Communications has “The Obama Effect” on demand. If you have not watched it, it is a must see. I wish these shows could be on regular teevee for all to watch.
If you have charter communications cable it’s one of the selections for on demand movies that you pay for through charter communications if they are your cable provider. I got this off of Youtube.
President Barack Obama is scheduled to become the first American president to visit Myanmar during a Nov. 17-20 tour of Southeast Asia that will include Thailand and Cambodia, the White House said Thursday.
Yes…to all the veterans here, we salute you. Thank you for your selfless sacrifice for your country. Thanks just doesn’t seem enough. Every Veteran’s Day, I think back to one day a few years ago when I was going onto the grocery store. There was an old veteran standing outside the store seeking donations and giving one of those little flowers out to show that you donated. I put some money in the pot, and he said, “Thank you!” I looked him straight in the eyes and said, “No. Thank YOU.” I thought he was going to cry.
Meet Peter Morrison, a Texas GOP official, and the Loon du Jour
Peter Morrison, Notoriously White
Mr. Morrison is all in a tither that Vermont has the same government that we do in Texas and there’s something just not right about that. He’s not real sure what that “not right” is, but he’s almost positive it has something to do with Barack Obama and the “maggots” who backed Obama.
No, seriously, he said maggots.
And he’s also disgusted with “non-whites” (who appear to be Asians and Hispanics in his mind), whom he accused of voting for the president on an “ethnic basis.” Not that Mr. Morrison did not vote for Obama on an ethnic basis, you know.
So, all this boils down to Peter Morrison wanting Texas to secede.
Let me stop here and tell you something semi-important. Mr. Morrison was selected by the State Board of Education to screen textbooks in Texas.
How big a difference would Republican support for comprehensive immigration reform make? That seems to be the most popular suggestion among establishment Republicans this week.
I think it runs deeper. I think they have to do a pretty thorough rethink and move to the center and that includes not just immigration, but broader social issues like same sex marriage. And the thing they have the hardest problem with: they will have to some day dump this quasi-libertarian approach to government in which tax increases are verboten while military spending has to be raised. I think it’s just not what people want, but especially not what the constituencies they’re being beaten so badly with want.
Thanks for providing the link, AMK. I must be sleepier than I thought! I think the GOP is going to have to actually embrace the interests of these groups and prove it with actions over time to create trust. They’ll have to disavow people like Limbaugh and O’Reilly, turn completely away from the Tea Party. I don’t see it happening soon.
the obama family will host the entire basketball team for thanksgiving dinner! way to celebrate!
‘ It will be the more and merrier at the White House this Thanksgiving with First Lady Michelle Obama’s invitation to the Oregon State men’s basketball team to share the holiday in Washington, D.C.
Obama’s older brother, Craig Robinson, the team’s head coach, received the invitation on Election Day as he and his family watched voter results in Chicago with President Obama, the Register Guard reported. Robinson said team members will participate in a service day with the first family before enjoying an early dinner. ‘
hey you guys maybe this has been posted but we were talking about this before I went to that OFA party tonight – what’s happening with OFA? Check it out:
Back from the wedding of my foreman’s son. Their family bestowed me the honor of handing over the Thali, a sacred wedding thread, to the Groom, who then tied it around the neck of the Bride. Great food. Over 1000 guests. It was a very grand wedding. May them live in happiness for eternity.
That was a quick wedding! I thought Indian weddings went on for days, and the dancing itself went on for hours. I know the one Indian wedding I went to, a single dance lasted for 20 minutes. I joined, sat down and rested, and rejoined again!
Well, I loved the one wedding I went to. I’m sure you’ll be a teary mess at your daughter’s wedding (didn’t she just graduate from medical school!?), and you can dance the night away at your niece’s wedding. Lovely! So much good stuff for you to look forward to. 🙂
As the eldest in the family, it’s my duty to find a suitable groom both for my nieces and my daughter, both of whom are brilliant doctors. Since my niece is about six months older than my daughter, she gets to go first.
Now I am on the hunt for good, decent eligible doctors for them. Both of them have already said FU to the software guyz, of which there are plenty here. Other engineers ??? Meh…. (their words, not mine)
Sigh…. Indian weddings are not fun…. For the parents.
A father’s (and uncle’s) work is never done. Good luck with the husband hunting! I have friends at work who are some of those brilliant engineers of yours, and they had all but given up on their parent’s search for husbands, and they’re all happily married with adorable children only a few years later. So, there is hope in sight!
Here’s part of the Veterans Day message from our current Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy, which I dedicate to all of our TOD veterans:
” … Our veterans represent the best of America, coming from every walk of life to make a positive impact on our great nation. They have inspired a new generation of heroes through their amazing stories of wars won, lives lost, valor, and patriotism … There is something special about the people who answer the call to service: there is courage in their hearts that allows them to put their life on the line for the American way of life. It is about an understanding of our shared values and making sure our children, our country’s future, can be proud of those values and be proud to call themselves Americans.”
I agree. When the season started and I saw him my first thought was “this is a way to get viewers to subconsciously see him as black instead of half white”. In doing so, they may be less likely to vote for him. I’m not a conspiracy theorist, but it just seemed like SNL was pushing for a Romney win this time…Anyway, now that he was reelected they are stuck with this horrible impersonator! I cannot watch him the next 4 years!
On a conference call with House Republicans a day after the party’s electoral battering last week, Speaker John A. Boehner dished out some bitter medicine, and for the first time in the 112th Congress, most members took their dose.
Their party lost, badly, Mr. Boehner said, and while Republicans would still control the House and would continue to staunchly oppose tax rate increases as Congress grapples with the impending fiscal battle, they had to avoid the nasty showdowns that marked so much of the last two years.
Meanwhile that beady eyed ratfucker, lyin’ voucher ryan
Mr. Ryan then went hunting and left Mr. Boehner to deliver his message.
It’s the same attitude that Paul Ryan would have had if their bid for the Presidency would have succeeded. They weren’t even remotely interested in serving the people, and it’s a travesty that he’s been suckling at the government teat all his life. I’m hoping that the only reason he won his seat is because karma has planned a massive smackdown for him.
now that’s a lovely thought–i confess i wanted pbo and the senators and congress and governors and everybody to be dems from now on! made no sense for so many pukes to continue to govern our nation. but i like your thinking about that!
We have a great opportunity to keep supporting a President we adore and respect. I hope that people who support him recognize that we are going to have to fight very hard with the politically wounded Obama-haters to promote PBO’s agenda and to ensure that they do not succeed in their plan (I know some have worked out a strategy for this and are going to pounce) to destroy him
Did you know that it’s totally Obama’s fault that Petraeus had an affair? And that this is all about Benghazi? That’ what I just learned from David Gregory on Weekend Today.
“Until the entitlement mentality is destroyed, the Democratic Party of Redistribution will always win,” Ingraham’s staff wrote on her blog. “If voters put the good of the country ahead of their personal wants, they will see everyone benefiting, themselves included. Let’s implement some trickle-down patriotism before it’s too late.”
Frum, Schmidt, and other Republican moderates see this rhetoric as poisonous and, more importantly, false.
“The federal government spends seven times as much money on people over 65 as it does on people under 19. The Republican base are the people who get the most from the federal government,” Frum said. “You can’t think if you reject facts. You can’t refer to minority groups as mendicants or moochers simply because they want the economy to function. We need to insult fewer people.”
🙂
Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaary!
Didn’t know my smile could get that wide! Chips, in honor of the Romney smack down and the approaching McConnell/Boehner/TeaParty World/budget-cliff smack down, may we have the Fly Smack Down on the top of the post? It also makes me smile!

A Hawaii vacation is well deserved. He is an energizer bunny. 🙂
I only pray there are no catastrophes or wars breaking out so PBO, family and team can get some rest for the new year.
Pray for PEACE. A positive Prayer. It works.
So, we just helped the economy.
Wife and I don’t get each other anything for Xmas, but instead get something for the house. (That’s what happens when you’ve been together forever and share your money.)

Well done Bobfr! I hope the President is able to read this. “Ms Chips is” indeed one “of the BEST!”
His mother and grand parents would be filled with pride and honor. Somewhere they are……..

Obama–money well spent!
Romney–boy did he blow it and I knew that he would. he cannot help but fail.
RT’d!!!!!!
Bwahahahahaha! All that money to LOSE! LMAO!!
Ouch. The party of fiscal responsibility vs ‘horse race’ losers.
That’s just freaking hilarious.
Put another way, $1.83 was spent to empower people with facts to move forward….$ 6.35 was spent to try to deceive and buy a Presidency.
Well done, df! For you ….

I don’t think making little kids cry this way is very funny, and the kids who forgave their parents immediately was so touching it made me cry. Sheesh — strange idea of comedy, Jimmy old man.
that was HILARIOUS. I especially love the three sets of kids at the end. GOOD PARENTS!!
I shared that on Facebook and got scolded that it’s political. Crap am I dense??? I just thought it was a very FUNNY but albeit kinda MEAN joke.
HOW THE FUCK is it POLITICAL????
Uh…that was my question. Something about: “difference between people that work hard for their money and people that live on………….” FUCK LET’S NOT WASTE OUR TIME ON IDIOTS!!!
whiny conservative? they can enjoy their THOUSAND YEARS OF STFU. oh hai, I needs must tweet the fuck out of that!!!!
My sides hurt from laughing at the “political” label. Yikes! People have lost their minds…
Not political, just mean. Sorry.
I don’t disagree. I do love the last 3 sets of kids though – WOW. So amazingly well adjusted. After all, it’s only candy.
Yes, the three sets at the end were heartwarming.

Look who woke up!
Hey, who you calling sleepy head ?
I had a white great dane joe who was exactly his twin brother. Our family called him the gentle giant joe. Bless his soul.
I have a Great Dane:) Now everytime I look at her, I will think of you and your Joe…. Gentle giants, to be sure. I love my dog:)
Aw, they’re just gorgeous, love those dogs. Well, I love any dogs (except the yappy, cranky, rat-like squeaky things that fit in your handbag).
EXACTLY! The bigger, the better! Sometimes, size DOES matter….
😆 Yes!!!!
Kinda reminds me of my yellow lab!
Is that a dog? Looks like a lion.
Charter Communications has “The Obama Effect” on demand. If you have not watched it, it is a must see. I wish these shows could be on regular teevee for all to watch.
Got a link?
If you have charter communications cable it’s one of the selections for on demand movies that you pay for through charter communications if they are your cable provider. I got this off of Youtube.

Pamela, if we can keep it just between us, I agree with what you said 100%.
FLOTUS says POTUS can’t dance, but he seem to be doing a fine job slow dancing. I won’t say a word about the time he was dancing on the Ellen show.
Yup – please don’t say anything about that Ellen show dancing by the President. Zipped lips on that one… At least, he can sing! 😉
theo67, I don’t think he was that bad, he wasn’t that good, but, but, but, okay I won’t mention it..

http://www.balloon-juice.com/2012/11/10/saturday-evening-open-thread-7/
Yes…to all the veterans here, we salute you. Thank you for your selfless sacrifice for your country. Thanks just doesn’t seem enough. Every Veteran’s Day, I think back to one day a few years ago when I was going onto the grocery store. There was an old veteran standing outside the store seeking donations and giving one of those little flowers out to show that you donated. I put some money in the pot, and he said, “Thank you!” I looked him straight in the eyes and said, “No. Thank YOU.” I thought he was going to cry.
That was nice, df. And more of us should remember to follow your example!
Good night my WONDERFUL TOD friends! We’re going to watch the NG “Seal Team Six” program and then go BEDDY-BOO!!
It’s very good. You won’t blink.
and you might not sleep right away, either! 🙂
Oh for crying out loud. Did you KNOW this? http://juanitajean.com/2012/11/09/heres-the-truth/
YIKES!!
That is pretty unhinged DF. Is it wrong to say “what on god’s earth is wrong with ppl like him”???…appears to me that his existence is hate-based …
saw him on comedy central a while back–no sense of humor at all.
The man who predicted this election in 2002…
http://talkingpointsmemo.com/
The man who called this election in 2002. (I may have posted before this, but it wasn’t the correct link.)
A very good read. Here is the linky.

I imagine it’s been said before, but that picture of young Barack with the shades on, you can see that Malia looks like her Daddy.
hey you guys maybe this has been posted but we were talking about this before I went to that OFA party tonight – what’s happening with OFA? Check it out:
Hey look, the brianiacs Drew Linzer (the most consistent and spot on guy), Nate Silver and Sam Wang have gone international.

Oh, the wedding per se started off yesterday evening with a reception and continues till today evening.
I was there just for the main ceremony of tying the knot. There are a lot of special rites and events before that happens.
Indian weddings are crazy and I am dreading my daughter’s and niece’s weddings coming up soon.
Is this where the expression “tying the knot” comes from?
I have no idea. All indians, including christians, do it. We have recorded history of this going back centuries.
Well, I loved the one wedding I went to. I’m sure you’ll be a teary mess at your daughter’s wedding (didn’t she just graduate from medical school!?), and you can dance the night away at your niece’s wedding. Lovely! So much good stuff for you to look forward to. 🙂
I wish it were that easy and that fun !!!.
Also. Too. The wedding dances are a north indian thingy. We southies are more dignified. 🙂
Ha!
Barack’ teary video: 4.2M views in 48 hours. I would guess that the .2 is just me.
I am just behind you BWD. That is just so inspirational! The man we know and love.
🙂

The guy playing PBO on SNL suuuuuucks!!!
Agree with you Lisa. The original guy was better than this dude….he does not do our POTUS justice at all and I think he should be replaced.
Jay Phaorah doesn’t get POTUS at all. Makes PBO look silly which is offensive to me.
Fred Armisen was way better. Especially capturing BO’s phrasing.
This is an amazing article:

I think it’s time for the media to stop quoting Gallup, because it’s clear they are full of B.S.
The MSM and Gallupare.
One more for the road…..
and for us, a thousand years of terrific jokes!
OUI!
The Chuck Norris defeat is one of the sweetest moments of this election. Although, there are many…
as usual the media is hyping the cliff

put it on, and take it for a drive!
Good Morning Family. . .
David Gregory’s show needs to wither away and vanish due to lack of viewership. He is just awful.
